Went with my sister, brother and his wife. The staff was very kind and helpful. I got the chocolate chip banana, it was so good I got it twice! I wish I had gotten the name of the kind young man who served us, but he was very patient as we tried different flavors! I wish there were more people like him:DAmazing people and place!

Ice cream was ok, but portion sizes were lackluster due to being prescooped. Customer service is what really turned us off, sitting behind the counter, not explaining flavors or favorites, and just generally rude. Prefer Tongue in Cheek in Richardson, better portions, better flavor and significantly better customer service.

The customer service was not good at all. Honestly felt so uncomfortable and unwelcomed. The ice cream was fine but we will not be returning. Whoever helped us was extremely rude.

Not sure why all the positive reviews. When we arrived, the staff was literally sitting on the ground and I first thought they werent in business anymore. Customer service was subpar...monotone responses served with lackluster enthusiasm. We got the cookies and cream and we didnt think it was anything worth returning for. We sat outside and saw the employees repeatedly sitting back on the ground, curled up in the corner on their phones, in full view of the windows. 0% professional. My two cents to the employees: If you dont like your job, just quit. You staying there is hurting the business.

Because of covid there are no custom scoops and all ice cream are precupped. Had the sherbet, which tasted like freezer burn and was hard as a rock. My friends ice cream was good though.

I always wanted to visit, especially after the ABC report. First off giving back to the community and to what this Ice Cream shop represents, was a no brainier for me. As a mother of two kids that are mildly autistic, I brought my kids here to show them what disability does not mean inability, mean. The service was great the ice cream was good and the store was cute. We will be returning. 👍🍦

Bravo Howdy Homemade! 👏 Youve made a new fan.Lets just get this out of the way because its freaking AMAZING! Howdy Homemade employs people with down syndrome. How cool is that?The guys at the counter were super helpful and were fantastic as their tasks (one helped with the customer service/Ice cream and the other handled the payment).The ice cream itself was decent (I had the Vanilla) and it seemed a little pricy at the time (a little over $4 for a small-ish single scoop). But afterwards when I was reading reviews and discovered what was going on here; I feel like this was more than worth it for supporting the mission of this place.I just cant get over how great this idea is and will definitely be a repeat customer (especially because I have a hard time resisting ice cream).

After eating at Republic Texas Tavern we decided to swing by Howdy Homemade for dessert and it was extremely disappointing. I had fairly high expectations based upon the reviews, but even if I had not read any I would have been quite disappointed.The shop has pre-scooped portions, using COVID as the justification, but it was an immediate turn-off. I dont follow how having pre-portioned ice cream provides a substantially lower risk of COVID transmission, especially since fomites are not a significant source of transmission. But it does seem like a convenient excuse to strictly control portion sizes, and to those ends they controlled them quite well. The size of a single scoop was meager and I couldnt bring myself to reward the shop with my business.... Im a big proponent of voting with my wallet.The folks I was with all ordered ice cream, and none were overly impressed with the taste. In contrast the Tongue in Cheek ice cream shop in Richardson has delicious homemade ice cream, scoops to order, and is generous with their portions. A single scoop at Tongue in Cheek would likely be three scoops at Howdys, and is somehow less expensive as well.

Cute ice cream shop with lots of handmade flavors. The chocolate and peanut butter was real good. Service was pleasant. The only thing was the shop smelled like cleaning solution. But thats better than other offensive smells. Ha!I did find this place to be welcoming and in a cool shopping strip. Its clear this is owned and operated as a small business. Absolutely a wonderful place! Andy was so kind and very helpful! The Hot Tamales flavor was so good but I had to settle for the Birthday Cake today! Does not taste like your typical Birthday Cake, it is a perfect blend of actual cake and ice cream without the synthetic flavor!!! LOVED IT. The whole experience for myself was beyond perfect. Highly recommend! I will be back and with more ice cream lovers!

I really only heard about Howdy because of the Dr. Pepper ice cream. Unfortunately they were sold out so I got Dr. Pepper & chocolate chips, which sounds gross but was decent. The staff were both super nice guys as well. Ill be back in the future Im sure.

The avocado ice cream was great! It is nice that they hire special needs people to work here. They were telling us how at home they feel while working here. One fella even showed my kids some yo-yo tricks that they loved. If theyre in a chatty mood you might not get out quickly, but thats part of the charm I suppose. All in all, a unique, feel good place with genuinely good ice cream.

It is a nice ice cream shop but there is nothing special about the flavors offered or the quality. It is good if you are in the neighborhood and in a mood for an ice cream but not worth the detour.

Great homemade ice cream! Very friendly and generous scoop sizes. I think the best part were their unique flavors.We tried the carrot cake, Dr. Pepper chocolate chip, banana chocolate, and Cookie monster. All of them were awesome! You can actually taste real flavors and not just pure sugar and artificial flavoring.Id come back again for sure!

It’s not just a good cause to support, it’s delicious, nostalgic, no frills Ice cream. I just had the Coffee and Cookies and the cookies aren’t just on top, they’re throughout the ice cream. It tastes how you’d expect and better. Reminds me of when I’d get ice cream when I was a kid.

Their choice of ice creams are limited, presentation is not nice, even though that the flavors are somehow ok, you have to eat it so fast, you can not enjoy the ice cream because already when you receive the cone, it is melting.Therefore not more than 2 stars.

So this place gets 1 star because the ice cream was pretty good. I came in to get some ice cream. While looking I noticed a man staring at me from the back. So I ask him sir do you have harvest pecans? He doesnt say anything but turns his head like I didnt say anything. A woman leaves and he sand another person I cant see tell bye and thank you to her. Finally I get to the person helping customers and he gives the driest hello ever. I tell him Id like the Birthday Cake. He doesnt ask me the size but gives me the smallest one. I ask him if hes have a good day and he cuts me off with a snarky sure. It was only after I tipped him that he said thank you under his breath. This is probably the worst experience Ive had at an establishment in Dallas. Its a For Lease sign on the building and I can see why, super unprofessional and rude.

So usually I’m really not a sweets type guy. Naturally I prefer more meat or sides if I’m hungry than a cobbler, cake, or ice cream. When I walked in, I thought it reminded me a little of Thriftys ice cream From back in the day. However, the owner Tom, was there to greet me. He asked what I liked and told me about his business. He seem to be a really down-to-earth family man. He explained that his ultimate goal was to help people with special needs find jobs. Listening to his story was one thing because he has an awesome cause. But as he talked, he had me try some of his personal favorites and popular ice creams. The ice cream is phenomenal. I don’t get excited for ice cream, but I’d get excited for this. If you ever have a chance to swing by and try a couple flavors, do so. It’ll be worth your time.

I just saw this place be aired on ABC News and absolutely loved it. Unfortunately I have not been here. It is several hundred miles away from where I live in Deming New Mexico, but I think this is the most wonderful and beautiful thing I have ever seen. Gives me Faith in humanity!! Hope to visit this ice cream shop in the near future

As an amateur ice cream maker and someone on a quest to visit every ice cream store in Dallas this summer, I have to say I was a little disappointed by my trip to Howdy Homemade overall. Love the mission and wholeheartedly support that, but the ice cream wasnt anything truly special, it was just alright. I had the strawberry cheesecake, which seemed light on both strawberry and cheesecake flavors.It was decent ice cream, and I certainly wasnt displeased or wanting to return it, but overall it didnt live up to the very high rating that it has.

I more then enjoy howdy ice cream so oc I had to have them cater for my wedding. There nostalgic classic flavors were a big hit at my 50s style wedding. One of my chosen flavors was a Halloween flavor called one eyed purple eater just like the 50s song

Although I live far from this business I have to give it a great rating for the work they are doing for their employees. We have a similar restaurant here in Paris, TN called Sweet Jordans. I applaud what is going on to help special needs adults thrive and lead productive lives!!

Ive given myself a full week and a half to make sure I still felt writing this negative review was warranted.On two nights consecutively the staff either lied about closing time or closed early. We called ahead of time to verify closing time given all of the scary things going on. On the second night the staff closed and locked the doors in our faces while literally speaking with us, a half hour before stated closing. They eventually opened the door and agreed to sell us ice cream, but only what was convenient given they had clearly already cleaned a portion of the space and didnt want to be inconvenienced.Efforts to reach out to the restaurant to alert them to the repeated issues were not effective.The Dallas market is too competitive for this - will not be back.

Ice cream was great, service good. Issue server had a cut (bloody on finger/showed me). He went on scooping ice cream without plastic gloves or bandaid. The ice cream was exposed to the blood as he scooped deeply etc. Servers in food industry should wear plastic gloves. I feel terrible about this because the fellow was as sweet as the ice cream. I was my 1st time.

The ice cream was very tasty. This is coming from someone who isnt an ice cream fan. I cannot expertly compare the ice cream taste to other chains because I really have ice cream. I can say that the 2 gentleman who served us were very jovial and respectful. The place was clean and the patrons were nice. The customers who bought the ice cream seem to be return visitors who were prompt in speaking of the excellent tasting ice flavors. We have a blend of coffee and chocolate and I believe the other was blue monster. Overall great experience.

Friendly service and REALLY yummy ice cream. My son loves the Cookie Monster with some edible eyes. My favorite is easily the chocolate peanut butter with Reeses pieces (swoon). We just moved in the neighborhood and its a new favorite! Its open later, until 10p. Its well kept and clean. Support local!

The owner hires employees with special needs and they are great! Definitely a great place to stop by and have a cup or cone of ice cream, even a float! Once youre done with your ice cream they have a cups for a fresh cup of water.
