Dr white is one of the most empathetic and caring Dr that I visit. The office is always pleasant and they stay on schedule so I don’t have to worry about spending more than the necessary time there. The hours are very flexible also. My whole family are treated by him and is always a pleasure

They were very courteous and very professional. I went in with a bit of a complicated history and set of symptoms. They spent plenty of time with me, did and redid test and explored all options for cause and treatment. They then made a recondition that made sense. I was very pleased.

Theres a HUGE difference between an eyeglasses store that does eye exams, and an Optometrist that cares for the health of your eyes and also sells great eyeglasses. This is the best Optometrist in Chattanooga. Technology and equipment is all state-of-the-art. Technicians are friendly and knowledgeable. Doctors are charming, on schedule, and thorough. The folks that work in the glasses showroom are patient and extremely helpful, never rushed. I wish all my medical facilities were this personable and well run. If youve hated all your experiences at Pearle Vision and the like, youre ready for some real professionalism. Make the switch. Youll be glad you did.

This is the best group of doctors in their field. They are caring, kind and professional. They are experts in new technologies and treatments. I have other issues that effect my eyes and I would not trust anyone else with my care. They are compassionate and take time with you to answer any questions you have. Their staff is the best! Very nice and helpful. I would definitely recommend any of these doctors for expert eye care.

Thank you for fitting me in, with a sudden, possible eye emergency before my flight back to Oregon 3.5 hours later. Thankfully, not a detached retina! We saw Dr. Kortum and were extremely happy. We will request to see her specifically going forward. She was extremely thorough. My son (15) has a particular abnormality that is not concerning but could be mistakenly diagnosed and she was very careful and thorough to explain to him what it was and to make sure he understood so if ever someone examined him in the future he could explain his condition. She talked to him like an adult.I have a pretty severe astigmatism and have tried to get contacts in the past, it was very difficult and very involved. We discussed the possibilities of trying again now with my age and advances in contacts it may be a possibility. She didnt just brush it aside.She made us feel like we mattered and she cared that all our questions and concerns were answered.So glad we made our appt here.

We have been patients at Kapperman White for a number of years and never had a complaint. We recently retired and still in process of understanding our retiree healthcare benefits. We shared our new insurance information at the time we made the appointment, a week prior to the appointment. Dr Kortum is great, so was the technician who did our vision testing…However…we were very disappointed when we checked out to discover that our eye exams were not covered at all by our insurance and we had to pay $350 out of pocket! They then informed us that Kapperman White is not in network with our insurance carrier (Aetna). Why wasn’t this important piece of information communicated to us when we initially shared our new insurance info with them at the time we made the appointment?? Other providers have always informed us when making appointments whether or not they are in-network providers for our insurance. And since we were regular patients there, and weren’t informed otherwise, we wrongly assumed they were an in-network provider. Needless to say we were blind-sided by this extra expense and disappointed by this lack of communication, and seeming discourtesy, on Kapperman White’s part.

They were super good with my daughter! Shes 3 and they engaged her well, even when she had a fit about the eye drops. Would reccomend to everyone.

Ive been coming to Kapperman White and McGarvey for over 11 years however today on my visit I was told that my insurance is no longer accepted, blue Cross blue shield? They no longer accept my provider for my eyes so Im no longer covered by my insurance at their facility, I have keratoconus a highly volatile eye condition that I have to have special contacts that are very expensive, now there are no longer provided coverage through this eye care source, now I have to find me another eye doctor for my vision problem. This is a great facility with great doctors and great staff, this is not a bad review just a very disheartening review that now I have to go back out on a search even though I dont want to. kudos to the staff youve all been great to me and very professional I really enjoyed being a patient God bless.

The best eye care doctors and staff around!!!!

Terrible patient care, and are only out for your money. They told me that I was unable to try new contacts when mine were messing with my vision. They told me that I would have to pay for new ones without trying them first, and wouldnt fit me in quickly for a contact lens evaluation. I went weeks being unable to see, and even informed them of this and was told that it was my problem. Do not recommend.

My 4-yr old son is a patient here and the Dr. is very patient and kind. The staff is friendly and helpful and goes above and beyond. My insurance changed and we were suddenly out of network and they called ahead of time to let me know. Then gave me all the necessary papers to file on my own with an addressed pre-stamped envelope to make it as easy as possible. It was so helpful and beyond what I expected.

I recently moved to Chattanooga and was referred to Dr. McGarvey by a family member who is a patient. I have had numerous eye exams but this experience was clearly superior and more detailed than I have ever experienced. From my first contact with staff, I was extremely impressed with their professionalism, procedural knowledge and especially their friendly and sincere customer service. Dr. McGarvey and his assistant provided me with an in-depth exam, detailed explanation of available options and a friendly, caring patient experience. Post exam, they offer a well stocked selection of reasonably priced frames/lens options, the technician that I dealt with was very knowledgeable and helpful.

Dr. McGarvey was my optometrist, and hes great. Whenever I asked questions about terms or what he was talking about, he did not get annoyed and explained exactly what he was talking about in a way I could understand — unlike other eye doctors Ive had.The office staff was quick and nice. And when it came to trying on glasses, Buffy probably has a better opinion on what works on faces than most of us. I also appreciated the way she walked me through my insurance terms and got me set up to come back on a different day.Great place. Highly recommended.

Ive had problems with styes for years. The last 3 yrs, I tried to get help from Dr. White. I spent hundreds on different items to help per Dr. Whites advice. The last visit I made my eyes were very itchy. Communcation was horrible! Dr. White even made a joke about eye mites. Not funny!! Its sad because Ive been going here for many many years. Wouldnt recommend!!! Also way more expensive then other places

I have been going to this office for a lot of years. Today, at my appointment, I was a bit put off for the first time from the disgruntled Monday employee who just kept complaining about things not going right because its Monday. Fair enough, we all have our days. I asked the tech if I was getting my eyes dilated today and was told no, but instead was put on their fancy machine for imaging. I always ask for dilation since they charge $39 for this image, but never knew exactly what type of machine was used since I always opt out of that option. I did my standard eye exam with Dr Kortum. She is great with her patients and gets the job done right. After my exam, this is where things went downhill fast. Prior to today, I called on 12/27/19 (3 days ago) to get a quote on a pair of frames. I provided the model number, color and size I would need. The tech looked up my insurance and quoted me a figure. When I was there today, evidently that cost no longer existed and was now $29 more for the pair that was quoted to me 3 days prior. I also saw they charged me for the eye imaging machine that costs $39. I did not want this as I always want the dilation because I dont care about this 3-D view of my eye nor do I want to pay the additional costs for that test. They did take care of the $39 imaging fee, but stated that they do not dilate anymore and this is their new standard procedure. Honestly, if youre going to make people pay for a imaging fee, without notifying them about the fees, this is horrible business practice. I would assume the majority of the people just want a simple eye exam (as you used to do) without the additional costs of some fancy machine. Since this $39 fee is in addition to any copay that I have and your tech not honoring the original quote for frames, I will no longer be returning. The optometrists there are fantastic, but hiding your fees until the end without users agreeing to new fees, is why the rating I gave was 3 stars.Update: A couple days after posting this review, I received a call from Dr Kortum. I was surprised to hear from her. Needless to say, she was very thankful for the honest review and informed me that I can opt-in to dilation and it is still an option. The cost of my frames were also adjusted. Melinda, stated the system did not update with the new pricing model, but since has been updated to reflect my original quoted price. I am thankful for the staff to take the time and call me to talk this situation through. It shows they care about their patients regardless of a review. I have updated my review back to 5 stars as they are deserving of it. Thank you Dr Kortum and Melinda for handling this professionally.

I am 67 years old and my mother is 93. We both see Dr. White and are very happy with the care and service we receive. My mother had a medical emergency while in the office (not related to her visit) a few years ago and an ambulance had to be called. The entire staff was very attentive and helpful.

My visit with Dr. Kapperman/White for the 1st time was probably the most efficient and easy appointment I have ever had with a doctors office. I was called back from waiting at precisely my appointment time. The staff was excellent and extremely well trained at every step of my eye exam. Dr. Kapperman is a very likable doctor. He explained the results of all my tests, and what they mean at the present time and where I might be headed to in the future with my eye health. Fortunately, all of my tests showed I have healthy eyes. The eyeglass department was well staffed, and my counselor was very well trained. Got a nice pair of progressive glasses. I took both of my children (ages 9 and 7) to see Dr. McGarvey for their first ever eye exam. Every person at the office was friendly and efficient and on-time. He was great with the kids and explained things easily to them. We left with both kids needing glasses (a surprise to us!) but with a clear understanding of how they would help and the assurance he and his staff were there to help us through the transition and follow-up. I would highly recommend this office - it was a fantastic experience for what could have been a rough ordeal!

Extremely satisfied. Staff and Doctor were very friendly, thorough and informative. This was my 6 year olds first ever eye exam and she was nervous. They made her feel at ease and she enjoyed the visit. She wanted to know when we were going back. I left feeling we had been in good hands. We will definitely go back even though we have to travel about 50 miles. It was well worth it.Update: my 6 year old is now 12 and we are still traveling the distance to KWM! They are the best! I have had diabetes for 44 years, and I have always had eyes that were difficult to get a good prescription for, that is, until I met with Dr. McGarvey. He took his time, made me feel at ease about having such problematic eyes, and found the perfect prescription for me!!! I entered the office unable to read road signs or even my cell phone, and now I have a pair of Multi-Focal contact lens that allow me to see both near and far!!!! Thank you Dr. McGarvey - see you again next year!

Best Dr.s & customer service around. Been to several, have not been as pleased with anyone else. I wont trust my eyes to anyone but White & McGarvey. Most updated instruments for eyes. This last visit I was having so much trouble with allergies and my eyes were dripping wet from tears and sooooo itchy, didnt think there was anything that could be done for allergy eyes. Dr McGarvey gave me a prescription for drops, (even sent in the prescription to my pharmacy!) I didnt think they would do any good, but I tried them. WOW! They really work!!!! No more itchy watery eyes!!! UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I have never walked away disappointed, even the staff is friendly and they work very closely with the doctors. Very happy! :-)
