Old reliable PT Cruiser was another casualty of 2020.I did a lot of research that went out the window when I saw this car online. I had them ship it to their West Ashley store for a test drive. The whole process was relaxed and relatively painless. Good price and a great interest rate. My sales associate, Scott Near, was helpful and attentive from start to finish.I highly recommend Carmax and will use them again.
First off, the salesman Ryan is a pure gem! Few minor hiccups on my end (no fault of the dealership) but overall great experience. Ryan was very friendly, knowledgeable and might I add PATIENT being that I had my very energetic 4 year old daughter with me. He took the time to interact with her and keep her entertained while I went through the purchase process and that meant a lot. I absolutely love my car & the people here.
Walked in and was greeted immediately even though all persons were actively helping others. I was quickly able to test drive and purchase auto without any hassles. The buy back program also went very smoothly. The online offer was the confirmed amount and they had but to drive the vehicle and remove the license plate. I would recommend this to everyone.

Relatively pain-free. Walked in, was seen by a specialist, had my car assessed, and had a offer on the car within about 30-40 minutes. I was a fairly competitive offer, especially considering the ease of the selling process. From there, since I knew which paperwork they needed due to the appointment email, I was able to get my car sold with a check in hand at about 90 total minutes. Everyone was professional and made sure I was looked after. Easiest car selling experience I have ever had.

Chose the vehicle I was interested in beforehand. Arranged my own financing, it’s just what I do before buying a vehicle so I know everything prior. Once I got there, drove vehicle, had mine appraised and got a reasonable offer (slightly less than I hoped for but I can’t deny their offer was reasonable). Pricing was fair, better than other places I searched. Deal done quickly. I love that there’s no haggling. You have your numbers upfront. It’s as easy as walking into a store and buying what you want.
CarMax buying takes the “Dog and Pony Show” out of the process. I purchased my Mercedes E350 from the Charleston, SC facility and from start to finish it was a simple and no nonsense approach to buying a car. Ward Perry was my sales associate, he was professional and attentive to my questions and concerns regarding warranty and DMV paperwork for purchasing out of state. I give a tip of the hat to CarMax and Ward Perry for making this the easiest and most enjoyable car buying experience and highly recommended CarMax to everyone for their next car or truck purchase.

We had the car shipped and it was timely and easy. Our closer Tameka was awesome too. She had an amazing smile and attitude (through the mask!) She made it as easy as possible and went out of her way to make our experience smooth and quick. Would definitely use them again.
While I love the vehicle I purchased, EVERY encounter I’ve had with CarMax has been extremely disappointing. It started with my reserving a car and receiving confirmation of it being held for me, only to have it “disappear”. I’m addition, I’ve never received call backs/updates as promised. I’ve had to follow up on parts ordered as no one bothered make me aware of their arrival. When an appointment was scheduled for the installation of said parts, I get there only to be told the incorrect parts had been ordered and one necessary part had not been ordered at all. CarMax has failed miserably in terms of service provided even with numerous opportunities to turn things around.
My experience with CarMax was easy, from beginning to the end. Every one of those who I dealt with were very professional and friendly, making it very easy for my appointment with them easy to deal with and understand. You couldnt ask for a better place to buy or sell your vehicle. I would most definitely recommend them to all of my family and friends.

I was able to work with Ralph Tileston on picking up a new car that was shipped to the Carmax Charleston location. Ralph was great to work with, very personable, and truly cared about the work he did and helping his clients get what they wanted. The paperwork and payment process were very quick compared to a dealership and I would recommend going through Carmax for selling or buying your new vehicle.
Although I was there for 2 hours selling my car I understand the employees were quite busy! Everyone I spoke to was extremely friendly and helpful, by far the best customer service Ive encountered in a while! Paid to have an F150 transferred. Arrived at the local store and sat for almost 9 days before the F150 was ready for pickup. On the drive home, the rear caliper was smoking/burning and had to get it repaired immediately. Also, I found trash behind the driver seat (including someone elses comb). After the caliper was replaced, I noticed there was still vibration during highway speeds. Took the F150 back to CarMax for another inspection (dont believe it ever went through the advertised 125+ point inspection). CarMax repaired a few minor things and determined there was an issue with the drivetrain. CarMax told me to take it to a Ford dealer as they werent able to correct the drivetrain issue (fyi, its not easy getting a service appointment at a Ford dealer these days). Its now been sitting at Ford dealer for past 4 days so they can replace rear drivetrain and repair anything else they find. So the F150 has been to 4 service shops within the last 3 weeks. No follow up from Management other than an initial offer for a free car wash to compensate for the trash found. Clearly CarMaxs inspection (or lack of) failed to catch several major mechanical issues. Hopefully I will get the truck back from Ford this week. I would like to actually drive it before I have to make the 1st payment this week. Cant say Ill ever buy another car from here as CarMax clearly misrepresented their inspection guarantee.
Carmax lied to me a bout the features of the car. They told me my vehicle had apple carplay. It does NOT. I put 17k down on my car and the only reason i purchased the car is because they told me it had apple carplay. If you want to be told the truth, dont purchase your car from carmax. They treat their employees like trash, they also write their employees up for things they didnt train them on. Not having apple carplay is a huge difference in the car. i was straight up lied to just to make a sale.
Nothing in my deal was accurate. Salesman knew nothing about the vehicle. Very nonchalant. They reprinted my deal 3xs from errors. I Paid for transfer, vehicle showed up a week after original date. They told me one amount down, then something different once I arrived. Mileage was one thing on Paperwork, way different from the actual dash. Totally bad experience on a 50k car.
Customer service was good. The cleaning service sucked. The truck smelled extremely sour like they didnt dry the carpet properly. Definitely not the way to show off a new purchase...
Shipping took WAY too long.The only communication I got, is when I solicited communications.Then, only 1 person communicated with me, a rep from the home office who originally set up the shipping. This was the 3rd car I have bought from CarMax, and probably the last.
My selling experience with CARMAX was excellent! The agent I worked with was excellent and also the business department in finalizing the paperwork was efficient and everything was explained fully.
I completed an easy online assessment to sell my car. I made an appointment to evaluate the car on a Saturday and my offer was handed to me right there. I had 7 days to decide if Id like to sell it. It was a seamless process however a few extra steps were needed since it was a lease. 4 stars given since we showed up on a Sunday to complete the process and were told they needed to speak with a live agent through our bank to confirm the dealer payoff. This amount was different than the automated payoff. Banks arent open on Sundays so we had to make another trip down two days later to complete the process. I wish they told us this before coming in that day.
Bought a second car from Dwight. Really appreciate his candor and assistance with the whole process. We didnt make it easy.... 1.) Ordered a car that had a odor issue 2.) Kept changing minds on brand and body type 3.) Ended up in a Sedan when we were only looking at SUVs. Dwight and Emily gave us great service and NEVER got frustrated with us as we juggled many changing priorities.

We had a very timely appraisal appointment with Ralph at the West Ashley location in Charleston, SC. We left with appraisal in hand and spent the next seven days contemplating our options. We returned a week later to accept the offer. We arrived after 5 pm expecting the process to take a while given it was late in the day. We left with payment in had in under 30 mins. They gave us a more than fair appraisal of our vehicle and I would be happy to do business with Carmax again in the future.
Super great people, helped me find my perfect car and at an affordable rate! It did take almost 2 months after I had the vehicle transferred from Florida. ( it was supposed to be 14-25 days, and at a price out of pocket of 200ish dollars). But other than that, 10/10 experience; 10/10 people.
I have bought cars from Carmax in the past and recommended to friends who in turn did as well as a couple family members who both bought. It was time again after 6 years to take the plunge but was excited because of previous experience. I found a car I wanted and paid 599 to have it shipped form Louisiana to Charleston Sc. When I arrived it took them 30min to even find the car and then when they did, it was dirty, I mean ground in dirt on the seats the switch to adjust the seat was broken and laying in the drivers seat. Even the sales guy said .. this is just grimy... the manager was very nice and gave my deposit back so I wrote it off to a mistake. I ordered another car to come out of Florida, waited, waited and called when I called the girl said .. yah you can buy it now.. I said so its there .. yah if want to come you can... no call, no text no nothing just waiting to hear from them and nothing. Maybe its shortage of employees but when I was there there a lot of people sitting around and didnt look busy. Anyway, still like them but wow has the service side taken a turn. Will see how this car is presented on Sunday... I hope if Carmax reads these that they take this constructively and step there game up to where it was. If not they will be the Kmart of the used car industry.
Under staffed in the business department ! Feel bad for the young people working. Other than that good place to sell or buy a vehicle with a great selection. They definitely stay busy but you dont feel obligated or pressure while looking for a vehicle. From the customer stand point I definitely like and they are there if you have any questions. Horrible experience. We had a Toyota Tacoma shipped from Miami, paid $99 and waited two weeks. When it arrived we went to test drive and the options listed, running boards and tow hitch were not on car. They were both even listed on sticker ON the car, but clearly not installed. The sales person talked to the Buyer at CarMax and his response was Well, its still a good deal so we cant do anything.. The price that we thought we were paying included those features, and if they werent included, they should lower price accordingly. So the sales person then talked to Sales Manager...and the Sales Manager said Well they saw the photos, so they should know what they were getting. He didnt even have the professional courtesy to talk to us, apologize for THEIR mistake. He actually wanted to put the blame on us. We trusted the listing, and it was even on sticker. They could have cared less. They refunded our $99 shipping but didnt care that we walked out, wasted two weeks waiting for car and 2 hours coming to their location for a falsely advertised vehicle.

Salesperson -0- / service -100-If you are looking for a car do not use Karen Wood as your sales person .There was heavy scratches and a couple dents in the front bumper on the drivers side. She fabricated a story (LIED)and I feel for it... Karen even went so far as to point over the the Acura Dealership and said we will take the car the dealership and get it replaced. Several days later I went to get the car in the pouring rain. Clearly the bumper was not replaced just touched up with paint. I went back a few weeks later and the service manager ran a report of all work done while at CarMax (which I had no idea was available )and clearly there was no replacement of the bumper.She was more accommodating than the sales person. Never again !
Didn’t get the car the I paid to get transferred but Sammy Powell did an amazing job at working with me to find something else. He definitely made my car shopping experience wonderful. Haven’t received my refund for the car I paid to get transferred but was never delivered
The selling process was pretty easy and quick. I had gotten an online offer and brought it in to have it redeemed. The only issue I had was that my offer decreased significantly over a mileage issue. I felt that despite the discrepancy, there should not have been that much of a decrease.

The new process in place under the name of Covid safety takes all the fun out of this place. I remember being able to look in all the vehicles, open the doors, test the feel, etc. Now the sales person follows you around and must scan the QR code (which you cant scan on the dark tinted windows) to check the status, go get the key, then clean it before you can even look inside. Im old but not afraid of this flu. I will be glad when we, as a nation, regain our common sense. The dealers we have visited are a much better experience.

My car was transferred in from Florida. I understand that it had to first pass inspection. However, I found many small things that were overlooked(stains that were easily removed). Less than 24 hours after I had my car, the rear view mirror fell off. I had to wait 10 days to get my car back for the issue which I thought was a bit extensive. However, the actual paperwork was went by pretty straightforward and fast.

Because CarMax refuses to take debit/credit card payments over the phone or online... I have to drive to the dealership in West Ashley by Costco to pay my bill.Otherwise, Ward Perry is your guy. He was honest with me about a car I already picked out on lunch; however, when he inspected it he smelled mildew... it had a sunroof that evidently had leak. However, Ward got me into the car I bought. 2015 Chevy Malibu, silver with slate interior, etc. Love my car.Please look into allowing your customers to use debit cards/credit cards instead of making them to come to the dealership.

The first car I applied for online I was immediately approved for the loan, but when I came in they had sold it??! Salesman did help me find another one. A year younger, but higher miles. I also had to order it from GA and it came in late. Salesman was a great guy, but it wasnt an easy process.
The online, phone, and finance experience was fabulous but the person who did the computer work at the dealership took away from the overall positive experience. He was disinterested in the entire process and had to ask for a manager multiple times on a deal that was already made before we got there.
Let’s start off by saying I rarely give 5 stars. Last month my Mercedes Ml 350 was totaled. I wanted the same vehicle but an updated version so I saw a Mercedes GLE 350 in Alabama, I paid the transfer fee, got the vehicle shipped, the vehicle arrive a week early but I was not available until the date I was originally given. I worked with 2 amazing customer service reps Ayesha (Las Vegas) and Jones (Atlanta). I was very concerned about my vehicle and the possibility that it could be sold to another customer( just from reading prior reviews) but Jones was in constant communication with me. He definitely went above and beyond. I was told that JOE LEWIS would be my sales person he immediately called me and was in constant communication with me the day of purchase, I had lots of questions and he never made me feel like I was a bother, he made my buying experience nothing short of AMAZING‼️‼️ He contacted me when my vehicle was ready ( I told him I would be coming in on an extended lunch break) he walked me through submitting all my paperwork online. I spent maybe an hour and a half in the dealership this included my trade in process. Joe made sure I got the best interest rate possible, he was very informative and wanted to ensure that I was comfortable and confident with my buying process. He wasn’t pushy, he didn’t make me feel like it was just about selling a car, he made sure that I was comfortable and happy with my purchase. I walked away very happy and pleased. I immediately referred my mom and coworker who are both looking to purchase to JOE LEWIS.
Did everything online and with people on the phone in vegas was pre approved and truck had to be shipped from fl .waited and truck arrived went to dealership and down payment doubled and said they wanted a trade .originally down payment was 1200. And no trade that was never discussed on the phone 3 times or online so I walked out .they get your Hopes up and when you get there blow you out the water and the manager did nothing worst experience I have ever had
Are you kidding me? This is the only place to get a more than fair shake on your used car. My « dealer quoted me $29k for my 2020 300 GLC. My buyout was $32k. Carmax bought it in 30 minutes for $35,600! How hard is that to understand? If you have a leased car, check out the buyout price and then see what Carmax will give you. This is a no-brainer!

Bought a 2017 Rav-4 two weeks ago currently still waiting on an alignment and two back tires. Felt like this could have been handled more efficiently. I was also lied to multiple times when I asked if the car had been detailed after I saw it the first time.
Working with Kevin was a wonderful experience! He was extremely genuine and did not make us feel like we were talking to a “typical car salesman” who just wanted to make a sale. You can tell that he truly cares about the customer and making it an easy, understandable, and overall great experience. Zhane helped us with our paperwork once we decided to purchase and she was wonderful as well! We thought she had been working there for years with the level of professionalism and knowledge that she showed. I was shocked to hear that she had only been there for a few months. I have purchased over 8 cars with CarMax and all of my experiences have been positive, however, this time I have to say it was a big failure!First, when I started the car and it said I needed service, the service settings were not reset after service which made me wonder, did the service really happen?Second one of the two keys given me did not work, so I had to take my new purchase to a Porsche dealer to reset the service message and reprogram the electronic key. (Porsche Charleston, were awesome!)Third, a week later, I came out of a store and it had started raining so I turned on my windshield wipers and I was missing the passenger side blade. I had to go into the local store and buy a new blade.One.) The service setting and reprogramed key were paid for by CarMax of Charleston.Second.) The wiper blade replacement I purchased was also paid for by CarMax of Charleston.Unless I hear from CarMax of Charleston what they are going to do for me, I will be looking elsewhere for my next car!Please remember, this car I just purchased was over $46,000!Think about it, would you buy a car from someone who sells you a product like this?

They charged me $82.60 for “diagnostic fee”. But they don’t have the ability to fix my vehicle. What a scam, I had to make an appointment, wait to weeks, just to get scammed

I found a car I was looking for online on Car max app. I paid $100 to have it transferred to North Charleston, South Carolina. I qualified for financing. A credit check was done. There was a mix up they told me to come in to see it on Saturday but the date they said was Friday. I came in on Saturday and was informed it was already sold. They said I didnt show up so they sold it. No call to see if I still wanted it. No holding it for ONE DAY in case I came in.And no one seamed to care about it. I did get one apology after I showed them the mistake on a text they sent me. They sat me down with another saleswoman, but we couldnt find anything close. I was very disappointed. If they did something to make it right I would have still purchased a car from them. I had to contact corporate to get my $100 back. Obviously the salespeople just cared about making a sale NOT helping a customerWill never buy there. Worst experience TRYING to buy a car.

CARMAX should be called CARTRASH. It talks a good game and the people like Jordan and Tameika are some of the nicest and helpful people you can meet. They are awesome but really have no say in what u will receive. My quote was 5k less then 6 dealers buy price without trading in my WRX STI limited. Mine with 1/3 the miles, much nicer than most (thanks Jordan) and 3 years younger still with a Subaru factory warranty came in at 21k. And their older STI with 77k miles was listed at CARTRASH for almost 30k. Yet they offered me 21k and said they only make 2k on a car. Folks listen carefully. They are making a killing off people. Been here for 4 hours I have seen people arrive after us and leave with their vehicle whereas we have been sitting and waiting in 30+ min increments for every step of the process. We informed them of an appt we had to make hours in advanced and we still ended up being really late for the appointment. I have never spent this much time at a dealership in my life. Absolutely unacceptable.
