I ran into Jon last weekend in the mountains-couldnt have been luckier to do so. When we tried to leave the battery was dead. I wandered around for over an hour, flagging cars down and walking up to campsites trying to find someone who might give us a jump. A few were willing, but nobody had cables. I heard Jons truck rolling up the road and ran over to beg a jump. He had, and lent me, a booster pack which should have worked, but I drained it. I went back to his camp and he was surprised I didnt get it to light up. He dropped what he was doing to drive over with his jumper cables. After a few missed attempts to fire it up, he mentioned there is a security measure built in to Toyota fobs when the battery is drained (hence the drained booster pack). I passed the fob to him, he climbed in the car and fired it right up. If it werent for Jon, I almost certainly would have had to leave my wife with our two young kids and beg a ride to the nearest town to try to find a tow. Imagine if there were none available...Alternatively, we may have been able to find someone who had cables, and tried to jump our car but like me, didnt know how to bypass the security measure in the fob. Either way, up the creek with no paddle. Anyway, I tried to pay Jon for the help/hassle but he wouldnt hear of it. I dont live in Oregon, but I feel like I want to ship my vehicles to him for all services. Thank you Jon. Thank you.

I had my 06 Toyota sienna diagnosed at the dealer, very bad oil leak, and they said the oil pan was leaking. I resealed the oil pan my self, but that didnt fix the problem. Went to J&S and they correctly diagnosed the crank shaft seal. They replaced it, and did an alignment. My steering wheel is straight, no oil leaks...VERY HAPPY!!!

Went here based on Yelp reviews, and Im so glad I did. I went in needing an oil change, thinking I needed brake pads, and with something wrong with my shifter. I also said I thought I might need a tire rotation because it had been a while.They easily could have replaced my brake pads unnecessarily, taken apart my whole shifter console, and more... but they were totally honest, telling me I didnt need most of those things, explaining why, and not even charging me for checking it out. This is the most honest mechanic Ive ever been to, and will now be my go-to for everything in the future. A+

John is hands down one of the most amazing individuals Ive ever had the privilege of knowing. Theyve done quiet a few jobs for us on our vehicle and I honestly dont know that I will ever go anywhere else to have work done on my vehicles.The first job they did for us was a tricky one to figure out. Our van kept throwing the same code and we had fixed everything that could have possibly been the problem. So we gave in and took it to J&S. Im so glad we did. One of the guys thought to send a camera down into one of the valves and low and behold it was a broken spring. Everywhere else we went folks quoted us over a thousand dollars. John quoted us $700. Once they found the problem they actually ended up only charging us half of what they quoted. Good honest work in my opinion.Second issue, my brakes were sounding real bad. Went to Les Schwab (BIG mistake) they quoted us over $1,200. That didnt sound right to me so I called up John. Just shy of $500 and our van was fixed and running smooth again.Third time, I had a family emergency and I had to leave out of state and I was nervous about not being able to get my van services before hitting the road. Once again John saved the day. I called them up, he told me to come on by. When I pulled up he came right out. Asked how far I was going. Checked the mileage on my van and started checking the fluids and battery and tires. Topped up my oil cuz I was about a quart low and told me to watch my gauges and advised me on what to do when I go to where I was going. He wished me a safe journey and said hed see me when I got back for an oil change. I thanked him and asked him how much I owed him and he told me not to worry about it, just to drive safe and he hoped my family was alright.That is a decent human being in my mind.Oh and did I mention you get a t-shirt for any job they do over $500? Its been a pretty comfy pajama shirt.

I took my 2003 BMW M3 here and they did everything BMW quoted me quadruple the price for a very reasonable rates and most importantly got the job done quickly. Car wouldnt start so took it in for them to look at. Found the issue and cleaned it up and fixed it for free. They replaced the starter 18 months ago and since this was related they did the repair for free. Have always had very good service and friendly staff.

I had an oil change done at the Honda dealership, after which the service rep said my car was leaking oil, needed replacement of the VTEC Solenoid gasket, the fluids were low, and I needed the 120,000 mile service, saying these were all critical concerns. He also said I needed to replace my front brake pads soon. I thought their estimate was high and wanted a 2nd opinion to see how critical it was to get the work done since I’m planning to sell my car soon. I went to J&S Automotive after seeing multiple good reviews on my Nextdoor app, saying how honest and fair they are. I talked to Jon, the owner, who was SO nice and had me pull my car up to the garage for him to take a look. He checked out all of my concerns and found that the fluids were fine, the brakes were still at about 60%, there was very minimal evidence of any oil seepage from the gasket, and since it was running fine he couldn’t see any reason to service it. He didn’t charge me anything, and I was very relieved and impressed at how honest he was. I will be taking my car there instead of the dealer for my future service.

I contacted Jon at J & S regarding the cluster in my H2. Instead of just telling me to bring it in - he offered great and easy suggestions. I was able to remove the cluster on my own and send it in to a place that specializes in fixing clusters.So, even though they didn’t get my business this time - after their ample understanding and helpfulness- they will definitely get all my business from now on.I would totally recommend Jon and his business!

Went here a few months ago with a strange knocking sound coming from my wheels, the man who helped was super fast to troubleshoot and found out the place I went to before for a tire rotation didnt put the tires on all the way. The man was very easy to understand and even took me to look at the wheels with him and explained everything nicely, and to top it off it was perfect customer service. 10/10 would go to again.

I need a category higher than excellent. Jon and J & S are the absolute best I have ever known for all the years Ive been driving. Jon is the most honest, fair, and just plain nice guy to whom Ive ever had the pleasure of trusting my car. His integrity is second to none. His passion for cars is so apparent it just pours out of him. I really appreciate that. In the past, Ive dreaded taking my car in for service. Jon has completely turned it around to where I look forward to taking it in. But whats even better is that he does such spectacular work, that I dont even have to go in very much at all. I could not recommend J & S any higher. Jon has become our family mechanic as my parents and older brother all happily bring out cars to J & S. Im considering relocating to the Seattle area, and I would honestly say that I would even drive all the way back to Portland just for Jon to do a tune-up. When you go to this mechanics shop you will likely talk to the owner directly, and he will probably be the one to work on your car. The shop is clean, organized and has a comfortable waiting area. I have never had any problems with the work J&S has done, and I feel that if I did it would be fixed immediately. The prices are fair and more than competitive from my perspective.Im really not sure where I would go if J&S werent around. Ive been to about 6 different shops and I stopped looking after going here a few times.

Jon was recommended to me through a friend who has been Jons customer for years. I took my Moms van to him to inspect a previous mechanics work, as well as, generally inspect some other aspects of the vans functionality.Jon broke down exactly what was bad, not good, but okay to ignore for now, and what was good about the van. I had been recommended to go see Jon from people in the industry, saying hes the best; and he is. I had a great experience here. I went in after I threw a check engine light, and neglecting some maintenance. They fixed my truck up and got me on the road again. Phil at the front desk was super nice and it was a great experience.

I went in KNOWING I needed new brakes and prepared to spend $350-500. After an inspection, they told me my brakes were fine for now and to not worry. They so could have taken advantage of me but they did not. Aside from being warm and friendly and very willing to explain work that needs to be done (they have lots of car parts in the waiting room for just this purpose), these guys have integrity. I am a single woman who knows nothing about cars. In other words, I am an easy mark for automotive repair folks. I have found my forever shop!

Edit #2: Despite my warranty having expired a few weeks ago, they still did their best to negotiate with their seller and was able to replace mine free of charge. They have their customers best interest in mind and I would highly recommend their service. As you can tell, customer service has to be good to have someone change a 1-star review to a 4-star and eventually a 5-star review in the end. If you need vehicle repairs, go to J&S. The two that helped me specifically was Jon and Phil.Edited: I talked to two of the individuals at J&S and there seems to be a miscommunication between the two of us. Toyota took a look at my vehicle and over-exaggerated the issues with my vehicle.I appreciate the rating scale that they use to address an issue (1 being not important, 10 being a huge concern) which would help consumers make informed decisions whether or not they need to have it fixed (since we may not be able to afford to fix everything).J&S is currently looking over some of the old issues + current issues that arose and I may change this to 5 stars depending on how that turns out.OLD POST:I was introduced to the shop by my friend who had visited the shop 3 times before with great results. As my friend and I talked to Steve, we became very frustrated as it was easy to see that it was all about money to them. Other shops have allowed us to use the scanner ourselves, however, Steve laughed and said that we wouldnt know what we were doing and we can just go purchase one on our own for $1000. After the work was done, we went up to Steve and asked if he came across anything else during the diagnostic test. He laughed and made a show-me-the-money sign with his fingers and said that we would have to pay him more.If I already paid $93 for them to just look at the car and politely asked them if they encountered anything else of interest that I may need to know, I dont want to be talked down to and asked to be pay more money for me to know this knowledge.After a few days later, I discussed with a friend (who was a mechanic) to look at my vehicle and see whether or not the price was reasonable. He told me that I was scammed and that I should have brought it to someone else instead.

If you want an honest mechanic, who is friendly, with great skills and experience go to J & S Auto!! They are fast and efficient! We have been customers for over 5 years. I appreciate the education they provide when we take our cars there, and they even have some hands on auto parts that they use to demonstrate the work they will do. We have two very old cars (Toyota Sienna minivan and a 2003 BMW 325i) we are trying to get a couple more years out of. When we do have work done, they always are fair. They explain the work in laymans terms and the pricing (which they stick to.) If there is one thing I HATE spending money on its car repairs, but I know at J & S they are telling the truth. I actually have come out of their shop spending only $25.00 because I only needed a small part. Everyone should have a good, honest mechanic like J & S in their back pocket!

I am a teacher and on spring break I used my time to do some preventative maintenance - namely a big job, a timing belt replacement on my 1999 Rav Four. My car is low mileage for its age so I felt this way was the most cost effective because timing belts are not cheap. I went to several places and someone gave me their card from a gas station, and so I went there. I had a noise that every other mechanic said was something else (in my fan) and Phil, the front office person, said it was simply that my vent wasnt open. OMG. That sold me. I met the owner, John, and he was also very good in letting me see under my car and telling me the whole process of it. They did it in one day as I needed it back for work the following Monday and they made it happen. I am very impressed with their integrity, fair pricing, willing to check and triple check, honesty (yes, truly it exists) and I got a bunch of their cards to pass out and already have! Its like looking for a doctor, in a way. All about spending the time, treating the customer with respect, and updating. I highly recommend them and I now have a new mechanic! I came in to get a second opinion about a sound in my car. They couldnt figure it out without getting into it so I scheduled an appointment. At the appointment I was then told that my car just sounds old and needs heavier oil. I wouldnt have wasted my time going to the appointment if I knew all they were going to do was tell me my car sounds normal and Im being paranoid.

First few times coming here was good. Thats because Jon was there and is great. The last time I was there the front desk guy suggested buying a new part to see if it fixed the problem. I asked if it didnt, could we return the part? He said yes. So we ordered it and it didnt fix it. I asked if he would put the old part in and return the new one. He was shocked and said he couldnt do that and the mechanic demanded he get paid for double the labor. He then blamed the whole thing on me and told me to never come back. I was speechless! So unprofessional!

Last week I had a wheel bearing go on my Cadillac, I called Jon and he was able to fit me in the very next morning. The service was quick and while he was at it he checked out my car for any other possible problems and walked me through what should be done, what could be done, and what I didnt really need to worry about without pressuring me for an upsell. Jon is honest, does great work, and doesnt charge an arm and a leg. Given that I recently moved here from quite far away it seems that I have finally found my mechanic in the Northwest!

I originally took my van into a different shop to repair my windshield wipers which cost me about a grand and didnt really get fixed. Plus while the van was in the other shop my passenger side sliding door stopped working and made an annoying buzzing noise and all my dashboard lights were on. We originally called to see if these guys could just turn the noise off bc we had to make a long drive the following day. Well.....they went wayyyyyy above expectations. Not only did they make the noise stop, they completely fixed the door and the dashboard lights annnnnd did an oil change in an hour and a half. To top it all off the entire bill was $150! 😱 i was shook-eth. Best investment ive made in years.

I am new to the area, and based on everyone elses reviews I chose J&S when my cars check engine light came on.They were fantastic! Quick and honest. The car is on its last legs and when they shared the bad news and the cost of repairs they also told me that I should make the decision on whether to sell it or repair it at this point. No pressure on their side. When I decided to sell it instead of giving them the business of fixing it up, they gave me advise on purchasing a new car and cut the diagnostic bill in half (I am guessing because of the bad news it revealed).Its so hard to find a mechanic that you feel you can trust. Well, I think I just did. Ill be back to J&S and will happily recommend them to my friends.

I had a 1997 Ford ranger that I got from a family member. Had a new clutch put in and a tune up for me after sitting for 2 years. Went to DEQ and no pass. A week of J&S automotive figuring out the problem turn out to be a few sensors and the main computer! 2 days later went through DEQ no problem! No computer problems or anything. Starts up without any issue and gained probably 80hp from being in the shop 😂 Updating me every day was a big help and was very reasonable! #1 place in Oregon!!

Just came from my appointment today..... What a refreshing experience; not only from a auto repair point of view but any business in general. Jon was ready for me when we scheduled, he walked me though a verbal diagnostic as well as a test drive. Eventhough the test drive did not reproduce my self described blender-like noises coming from my transmission he was able guess what might be happening and outline a plan of attack. His diagnosis was absolutely spot-on based on my description of the sounds and the situations they happened. The fix was far easier, and more reasonable than I could have possibly hoped.I would give Jon and J&S Automotive my highest rating possible. I wish there was more businesses like this!!!

I took my van here because of their Google reviews and they did not disappoint. I took my van to the dealership and they had it for a total of 5 days on two visits without fixing a thing, just replaced a sensor twice but didnt fix the actual problem. J&S figured out the problem and fixed it in a total of a day and a half and their pricing was very reasonable. I will never take my van or cars anywhere else from now on thank you J&S you are a great smaller business.

Have had my vehicle serviced here multiple times, excellent service with no BS. Meet the owner and he is a very welcoming person, more then happy to keep coming back for any vehicle repairs.

I have never meet John but I know for a fact that this man is one of the most Honest men you will meet!! We had a car for sale on Craigslist for CHEAP because we thought it needed new rings because it smoked so much. John text me and asked if the car ever used allot of power steering fluid and our car Drank it. Our car is a 1994 Lexus with over 220,000 miles on it. He told us to try blocking off a Idle Pump Valve from the engine and see if it stops smoking. Long shot but what the hell we have not driven it for weeks. It Worked after burning off the extra fluid and replacing a spark plug wire the car is On the road again!!! We owe this man that we have not meet Yet so much and even though his shop is along way from our home I will be taking our Lexus and Yukon to him because I know he will never rip us off. He could have bought our car for $450 spend $100 and had a car that will probably run another 50,000 miles.
