A bike shop that actually works with the customer. Id been after a particular bike for a while, and .y local shop were not very helpful. I emailed Cycle Progression, and Alex (the owner) got in touch immediately, worked with me to get the bike and the exact build I wanted. As I was getting an expensive bike, I had the guys wrap it. There were some issues but Alex and the guys owned it and took care of it.It may be a long drive for me, but they do care and spend their time with the customers to make sure everything is perfect.

Unfortunately I cant really say I had a good experience here. They dont require masks or social distancing- one of the employees was wearing a bandana loosely over his mouth (which does nothing). The service took ages and there wasnt anywhere to sit inside the store, maybe if I had known Id be waiting the better part of an hour I could have left and come back. I had paid for new tires with installation, but I had to go back that evening because my rear wheel was mounted crooked (rubbing up against the frame) and the rear tire wasnt inflated properly. With so many excellent bike shops in Austin I cant think of a reason to go back here.

I have been coming to Cycle Progression regularly for the last 3 or 4 years and they have been consistently great. Ive brought multiple repairs to them and they always give me a quote on what it will cost up front and the work is always perfect when I get the bike back. Gears, brakes, upgrades - they do it all. They are also great supporters of the bike community and show up at races and sponsor a team. All in all, best shop in Austin hands down.

My first adult bike purchase. I came from San Antonio. I havent rode in over 2 decades but I need exercise and bikes are perfect for me because I ride motorcycles.Anyway, this is my only experience with purchasing bikes from a pure bike shop and these guys were good to me after I informed them I have little knowledge of bikes. The guy who demod the Sirrus x 3.0 medium/large was thorough and provided knowledge as he saw fit. He suggested I test out the medium again after my wobbly experience with it while I told him I felt good on the large. He was about 61 and I think he was gently recommending the medium but the wobbly experience (oh I almost crashed several times and/or swiped vehicles) was due to me peddling incorrectly and my ego took over and said Im a LARGE. The dude who cashed me out was a young kid with a neat haircut and he was a gentlemen. I mean they got bikes in stock too so, what a plus. Ive been looking for a long time for a specialized. Thanks guys!

Amazing service! Received a bike from here as a Christmas gift. Someone tried to steal it; parts were missing from front wheel. Brought it in and they repaired it free of charge and provided the missing parts. The person I spoke with was also very kind and empathic and encouraged me to come back for a free tune-up! Also following safe COVID procedures (you wait outside; masks worn).

I went to Cycle Progression to get my sons bike tire fixed and they had exceptional service - meeting me at my car since I didnt want to bring my kids in the store. We waited for 10 mins and then they brought the bike out and I paid. Genuine care for their customer base - will always go back.

These guys are all about the passion and have put up with my obnoxious custom build and lack of knowledge. They also went above and beyond and out of their way to service the front shocks on my 2003 KAWASAKI ZX-6R. they even showed me some of the tools they had to fabricate to get the job done.It seems like sometimes theyre book keeping is off point. But we are all human, and at the end of the day I know every tech in there is solid and passionate.

Ive been here a few times for bike repair and these guys are prompt and did an excellent job. I used to live in Austin and now live Round Rock yet make the trek to Cycle Progression for my bike repair needs. I first found them after calling around during the height of the virus shutdown and when they picked up the phone they had such a great attitude despite the perceived chaos. Recently took my 8 year old son to the shop and got him a helmet that he loved. A couple days later realized we left his glasses there and they held on to it for him. Thank you. 5 star service.

I had done research on what kind of bike I needed and thankfully they had one in stock. Incredibly easy and friendly service, and a couple days after buying when my brake cable came loose during a ride (thankfully I was nearby) they happily helped me out. They also have a shop cat which is always a big plus for me.

Horrible experience! I took a bike in that had been at the beach for months and was rusted, needed new wires ran, etc. I asked for a full-service tune up. They had the bike three days and when we went to get it back, they had done nothing but put air in the tires. He told my boyfriend (who went to pick it up) that I stated I didnt want to spend any money and just to put air in the tires. Why in the heck would I take a bike in for air in tires...I am perfectly capable! It came back dirty, rusty, no repairs, and stiff breaks that needed new wiring. What a joke this place is! And, the older guy who runs the place is rude, off-putting, and didnt take responsibility for his actions or didnt seem to care.

Wife purchased my bike here as a birthday surprise. Unfortunately it was too big for me and they wouldnt take back a brand new bike without charging a restock fee. After talking with the owner and mentioning that I would be more than happy to pay that and throw money on top for any other bike he responded his cheapest bike is $5000. We purchased a bike for my wife and brought it there for the tune-up after we assembled it at home I was given the same $35 price before dropping it off and once I got called it was ready. Went to pick it up and the owner said if was $45. When I negated and explained in a very rude manner mentioned “I’m the owner and thats what I charge for a build”. Sounds like you the owner and Don need to get on the same page. Lost my business the day I went to drop off my wifes bike. No one needs an attitude when money is being spent.

One of the best bike shops in Austin...or Texas for that matter. Quality work, guys there truly want what is best for you as customer.Shop has road bikes and is also especially known in town for their mountain bike lines and expertise. The owner, in his go-go days, was a top mountain bike racer. Now goes out for fun, so can help both types of riders get what they need. You cant do any better than these guys.

I just purchased a Spot-brand mountain bike from Cycle Progression. These guys operate a small shop that seems to specialize in personal service for higher-end mountain bikes. Alex and Emil were very responsive over email and in person over a few weeks helping me figure out what to get and keeping me informed once the order was made. The shop is stocked with a few new and used bikes and a small selection of components and accessories. Weve brought our dogs in when we visited and theyre cool with that, but one of their dogs hangs out in the shop sometimes so you might not want to let your dog just run into the shop full speed. I hope these guys can survive in a rapidly growing South Lamar!

These guys really know bikes, and their repair skills are excellent. Ive had several repairs where other shops have turned me away that the crew at Cycle Progression have fixed. While other places would send off a shock for rebuild which takes weeks, Cycle Progression rebuilt mine and I was back on the trail in days. Thats just one example. Go here. You will be happy you did.

Sorry not really impressed with the quality of service. For 60 bucks the tune up couldve been better. Not being able to true a rotor when there are tools for it and saying I should buy new ones or let it wear down. Had to readjust my derailleur as it kept shifting gears on its own. Im going to bicycle sport shop down the street.

After going to several (5) other bike shops for help in building two wheels for a recumbent trike that I am building and being met with skepticism, I entered the Cycle Progression shop and immediately knew this was the place that I needed and could expect help. Emile greeted me, instinctively recognizing me as the one who had communicated with him on my building intentions and on the measurements needed for building the wheels. He asked to look at the homemade hubs and without hesitation assured me that he could build the wheels. One week later the shop called me and said they were ready to pick up. His quoted price had not changed and I walked away with a smile and am now well on my way to building my trike. The Cycle Progression employees (3) were all friendly and down-to-earth types and it has been a pleasure to deal with them. I will be back!

I went to cycle progression on a referral from a co-worker. I was having a problem with my reverb seat post. Emil was very knowledgeable about this product and was going to rebuild it. Upon taking the post apart a defect was noted and Emil was able to have Rock Shox warranty it. I would recommend the shop to anyone.

I am the owner of the bike subject to the recent one star review. I cannot vouch for the condition of the wheel when Billy picked it up, but it is fine now. I probably needed an entire wheel rebuild (or new rim), but it was me that opted to just replace the 8-10 broken spokes. Billy may have re-trued it, I honestly dont know, but I was impressed with the nice phone call I received from the owner promising to fix any problem I might have as a result of his work. Also - it is worth mentioning that this wheel is from a rather unusual electric bike hybrid which needed spokes that he had to procure from across town, and a derailleur that he does not keep in stock. The fact that he got these parts that day speaks well for his efforts. I told the him that I would bring the bike over and let him get familiar with it for future work.

Looks like its been a few months since a review and Im so jazzed about my experience I needed to share. First of all, the products youll find here are higher end. I noticed even the rental bikes are much higher quality than youll typically find so if youre in the market to buy a quality bike and want to rent a product thats similar, this is your place. Yes, it is laid back...this is Austin...however, after talking with the owner Alex, head mechanic Tim and the other guy (sorry! I didnt get your name), they quickly ramped up their excitement to match mine and the energy was incredible! I just purchased a new Pivot Mach 429 Trail from them and its frigging awesome. I came back in after a few weeks of riding and added a bash guard for my 1X setup, changed out my seat dropper control to a Southpaw, and put on a slightly larger front tire (came with a 2.25 and I moved to a 2.4). I could not be happier and feel I have a team behind me as I start testing the limits of my new ride (and myself).

Wanted to buy a Norco Ryde 26 from these guys. Have been bugging them about it for a week now. I was told they are out of stock, and no more would ever be available.I finally hit the point where I was going to buy a different bike from somewhere else unless I can get some kind of idea when/if a new Ryde would ever be available. Instead of trying to reassure me and try to find out when a new one would be available, the guy on the phone cops an attitude and decides hes tired of talking to me about this. So, I give up on this bike, he obviously has better things to do than try to get my money that Im practically begging him to hand over...I called another Norco dealer in TX just to make a last ditch effort to see if I can get the bike I want, lo and behold, its not out of stock... What, they had to special order it, but dont worry, there are plenty in stock with Norco. So, not only did they cop an attitude with someone trying to give them money (How do you stay in business like that? Seriously, very interesting business model), they flat out lied to me because they cant be bothered to special order a bike. My guess, its a waste of their time to order a 2016 with the 2017s around the corner.Either way, I will give up cycling before I ever think about giving this shop money again. If you are looking for a Norco bike, do yourself a favor and find the other dealer in TX...

I called cycle progression about a dérailleur, the owner made it seem like I was taking up his time and being a major inconvenience. I took a rear wheel to get trued and about 10 spokes replaced.
