Came back from a trip and rodents had chewed through some wires in my engine AND the a/c was not working. What a drag! Yost was awesome, though. Service was 10/10. Friendly folks on the phone, saw my car very quickly (within 2 days), emailed a clear and detailed report and estimate, fixed things quickly. I also really appreciate that they keep customers in their lobby to one at a time -- helps me feel safe during COVID. Totally recommend!

I had the transmission light come on in my car and brought it to Yost. They determined that the transmission cooler was leaking and needed to be replaced. Unfortunately, the part was backordered from Honda with no available date. Due to this, I wound up having to have it transferred to the dealership to get a long-term loaner and did not get it repaired with Yost. However, I give them high marks for honesty and professionalism. They explained the problem clearly, did additional checking to try to find the part, gave me tips on how to approach it with Honda and let my car sit on their lot for over two weeks at no additional charge. And, everyone I dealt with was courteous, responsive and professional. I would definitely go there again.

I started to take my car to Yost a few years ago after a family friend in town recommended them to me. Before Yost, I have only had negative experiences with mechanics before. Being a woman, and never being taught about car maintenance, I truly feel these people dont take advantage of the fact that I am a woman. Yesterday was the first time I went into the office during Covid-19, and they take precautions very seriously as well. One customer in the office at a time, mandatory face masks, etc. I have and will continue to spread word of mouth about this place.

Great service from Yost on a used car that I recently bought that had an oil leak. They gave me a detailed assessment after running diagnostics on my car and explained the items that absolutely needed to be fixed, versus those that were nice to haves. They also gave me a detailed explanation of the work involved in the fix that I agreed to - so overall I felt very confident in the price that I paid, which was great for a first-time car buyer like myself! Three weeks ago I brought in a car I was thinking of buying for a “buyers check”. This is a $109. 95 inspection in which your mechanic tells you what is wrong with a car so you can use that information in your buying decision. I specifically asked that the car be checked for oil leaks. After the inspection, I was given paperwork that listed any potential problems. Under “oil leaks” Good was checked off as opposed to Bad. So I bought the car only to be surprised a week later when I noticed an oil leak. I called Yost Auto and was told that they neglected to give me Page 2 which said there was an oil leak. WOW. Page 2 would have changed my choice to buy this car. It was not mentioned in ANY way even verbally. Jake didn’t offer to refund me for the “buyers check” in which I was not given an important piece of information about an oil leak. What I was given was the cost to fix this leak $306.77. No discount for their mistake. On top of this, when I took the car to another mechanic I was informed this car also has a cracked serpentine belt which was not found in the “buyers check” that I got at Yost. So you won’t be surprised that after more than a decade of being a loyal Yost customer, I will now be taking my car to Juke Auto. Every family member and friend I have ever sent to Yost will not be returning. Not cool.

What you should know: This place takes appointments but that doesnt mean your car will be looked at during your appointment time. Be prepared to wait.My experience: Last week I took my car in for an oil change and a diagnostic. This took about two hours and I was told that I needed a transmission fluid change which I had to schedule for a later time; I was also told the service takes about an hour and a half. I scheduled the service for this morning at 9am. I dropped my car off at about 9:10am this morning and was told I would receive a call with a final quote for the service (I dont know why I couldnt be given a quote upon dropping it off, I drive a very generic Honda Civic). By 11am, I had received no call, so I called. I was told the service would not be completed until 2pm. I decided to pick-up my car instead of waiting as I have a job and had not requested an entire day off to simply get my transmission fluid changed. When I picked up the car, I was told that they did not know I was waiting in the area, as if to say, the service would have been completed if I had informed them of this fact. However, when the employee went to pick up my keys, I saw there were at least eight other car keys ahead of mine. Needless to say, perhaps their mechanics are skilled, but their customer service is lacking. I would not be so displeased if the employee simply told me the car had to be dropped off or to come by later, these actions would indicate that they value my time.

They were quick in coming out and looking at the pulley, unfortunately they didnt have the part. The mechanic stayed out and gave me suggestions on other ways to hold said pulley. I reviewed 5 stars because in my experience most shops in Austin will tell you leave the car which is ridiculous for someone like me who works out of my truck, these guys were quick and understood that the fix would have taken five min if they had been able to. If I ever had work I could/didnt want to do Id probably choose Yost.

When I picked up my car, the charge was double the estimate for the oil change because they realized it required synthetic oil, which I neither knew nor made an effort to know about this car that Ive owned for going on 6 years. My car overheated in the area last Friday and they were the closest shop to me. I spoke with Jason on the way, and informed him that I had an issue in the past with a heater hose. Jason said it could be that or a thermostat. Both very simply and inexpensive fixes. I arrived at Yost and spoke with a pleasant woman at the desk. She took my information and my keys and said they would call me with an estimate. The next day I receive a call from Jason saying they had diagnosed the problem as a leaking heater hose, and that he had to order the part from the dealer. This seemed odd to me, but I didnt have enough information at the time to question him. On Monday, an estimate arrived from Jake, the manager, and for a shocking $655. I immediately called and spoke to Jason to voice my issues with their estimate. He gave me a very hard sell about having to order the entire hose assembly from the dealer rather than just the part that needed to be fixed. They were charging me $173 for the part, plus he said there was 3.32 hrs of labor plus a $75 diagnostic fee (which I was never told about and I couldnt find mention of on their website) and $26 just to refill the radiator fluid. I know enough about vehicles to know when I am being ripped off, so I told Jason I would be towing the car to another shop. He became very defensive and then informed me that I would still have to pay the $75 diagnostic fee. I adamantly refused to pay, first because I was not informed of this mandatory charge nor did I sign anything saying I would pay it, and also because the estimate was so outrageous that I was forced to take my business elsewhere and would not be paying them to diagnose a problem I already told them I had. He repeatedly told me it was company policy and kept saying that I was taking money away from his repair guy that did the diagnosis, but I told him I was not paying and would be sending a tow company to get the vehicle to which he replied, fine. I found out the next morning that the vehicle never arrived at the new shop. I spoke with the tow company and they informed me that they were refused upon arrival, so I called Jason back. He was very rude and cocky, saying he told me they were not going to give my vehicle back unless I paid. I was then passed to Jake, the manager. He was not technically rude, but he just kept arrogantly repeating that the diagnostic fee was company policy and it was posted in the business and refused to release my vehicle until I paid the fee. At this point I was desperate to get my vehicle out and over to the next shop since it had already been 3 1/2 days since it broke down. I infomed Jake that I considered what he was doing as extortion and I would be disputing the charge and filing a report against them. It is now Wednesday, and I was able to get the same repair done for $205, parts and labor. Im sure they would have done the work, but overcharging 3.5 times for a simple repair and then holding a vehicle hostage over a $75 disputed charge is terrible business practice and possibly unlawful. Please do not support this shop.

Bizarre Customer DISserviceOne star for customer service, two because they didnt charge me for the diagnostic, back to one because they lied about it.When I dropped off my car for brake inspection and check engine light, the girl at the counter said I should expect an email about the diagnostic results in the afternoon. About noon, the mechanic called and I had yet to check for the email. He asked if I had seen the email, and I said no. The trouble started in earnest then as he launched into a rapid-fire rundown of the results with no regard to me understanding anything he was saying. He was obviously rather annoyed that I stopped him (only with great difficulty!) to ask a question about what he was talking about. At one point, he asked derisively again if I had reviewed the email. I told him again that I had not. Clearly, he wasnt listening 1 minute earlier when I told him the same thing. So then, this mechanic gets feed up and passes me off to his manager. With the manager, at first I just say to forget the brakes for now, and take care of the check engine light problem. The manager doesnt like this though and starts questioning me about the brakes more. I explain my additional concern about the brakes in addition to the rotors needing fixed, and the manager then goes into a spiel about how what Im saying about the past history of my car doesnt jive with what they were seeing at the moment as if I was crazy and just making stuff up. So again, I tell him to forget the brakes and just take care of the check engine light problem. At this point, he says they arent willing to work on the car and that I should just come pick it up.So, quite bizarre. I cant figure out if they are super busy and stressed out and cant deal with non-mechanic customers or if maybe theyre doing too much of the blue stuff. Who knows?UPDATE: PURE LIESIf you have time to waste on this pathetic drama and have read the response of the owner, you saw that it said you vehemently disagreed with the results. You said our technicians are incompetent and we were wrong in our diagnosis, which is absurd and points more clearly to Yosts poor communication skills and now brazen cover-up lie. The fact is, I totally agree with the diagnosis about the brakes. The brakes are exactly what I brought it in for! In addition to the rotors and pads, though, I had an EXTRA concern that Yost couldnt or didnt bother to address. However, when I took my car to a capable mechanic who could have a normal conversation, I found out that the caliper pin on the drivers side was missing its rubber bushing, and that was causing the caliber to be unstable. So there you go. My problem is solved. Looks like Yosts will be with them for some time. They should reach out to Marshawn Lynch for help with people skills.

They called every day to let me know they were still working to identify my problem, which I appreciated. Most mechanics are content to leave you in the dark. And for the critical feedback.Took my Golf in due to the positive reviews. Took a week diagnosing my issue while never clearly identifying the real issue, and another 3 days to fix the issue. Charged me $750 to replace a blow off valve, and related components which missed the underlying problem which was correctly diagnosed later as a bad CV joint. How do mechanics not identify a bad CV joint after a week of troubleshooting? The CV boot was clearly deteriorated, so maybe take a peek at the joint? Suffice it to say that was $750 down the drain and a week without a car.

Ive been going to them for like 5 years, gonna go somewhere else from now on..... At the end of 2017 I had paid them a good chunk of change (over 3k) because I trusted Jake to swap my engine on my 2002 Honda Accord. This is objectively a bad idea, it is a 15 year old car. I was dumb. But I would not have done it without reassurance with a warranty with great service that I expect from an establishment that receives best of austin awards year after year.My biggest gripe with this whole situation is how incredibly rude Jake has been to me. He was combative and defensive when I started asking slightly technical questions about the procedure in person.Jake told me he didnt want my business anymore after writing an angry and impassioned yelp review (youre reading a more sober edit), essentially voiding the warranty I spent my money for in the first place. I called a couple weeks ago to bring up further concerns with the fact that the bolts on my exhaust manifold were broken, very possibly from improper assembly, and that my exhaust manifold gasket had blown. He said because of my yelp review bringing up these concerns I was no longer welcome on the property, and that he would have to talk to the bosses before seeing me again.Jake had somehow gotten the idea that this major procedure was just a stop gap for me, and therefore neglected to do a 100% job. Less than a month into my new engine it was already leaking oil pretty profusely. I brought it back in, they pinpointed the problem, and then said it was outside of the engines warranty. Jake claimed that the part in question, the VTEC Solenoid valve, was removed from my old engine and put on the new one. In the process of removing this part, he also claimed to have swapped a gasket which sits between the part and the engine block. It is concerning to me why an integral engine part would fail suddenly when those parts last around 100,000 miles, and it was replaced less than 40,000 miles prior to this operation by First Texas Honda. When I took it off the VTEC the gasket definitely looked much older than a month. I also was never charged for this gasket. When I asked why a new VTEC wasnt used, Jake came up with a couple excuses why. First that this would have added superfluous costs to a major procedure. This is ridiculous because even if they were to have bought the $250 part that would have been negligible to the overall cost and would have ensured my new engine was running as close to 100% for as long as possible. The second excuse was that they wouldnt have known how long the solenoid was there, because it was working there wasnt a reason to worry. This does not make sense if youre trying to do a good job. Third was that I never asked for it and it was my fault!I had a very hard time hearing this stuff from someone I trusted with my livelihood. I was a delivery driver for almost 7 years, and I have had to quit my job because of the uncertainty with my car. I have not been able to sit down to write this out since because it just really messes with my productivity, but now Ive gotten to a point where I can devote time to rectifying this situation. The funny thing with Jake not taking precautions on the VTEC is that I had replaced my spark plugs only couple weeks prior, and they replaced those. Plus the kicker is that they charged me 116.24 bucks for them, and the exact part number, OEM and everything, sells for less than 50 at Autozone.IDK sketchyPlus he was rude to me for just asking questions.Jake is nice until he is not. He wont be getting my business again. And I hope you wont be fooled by the Austin Chronicle awards as I was.

So I see a lot of different feelings on these reviews, and I will attempt to shed some light on them.I work on motorcycles for a living, and there are many similarities between our professions. Making an appointment does not necessarily mean your vehicle will be done in that slot, there are a great deal of variables that go into repairs, one of which is the honesty and level of knowledge of the customer making the appointment. If the booking is for something low level and turns out being more serious or specialized, the employee that may be needed to see it may be already engaged. Also, pricing for a mobile mechanic is lower, due to having no store front to work from. In addition, the reason why many people choose someone with a store front that has been around for an extended period of time is because you wish for someone to do it correctly and then be around to help out if things go wrong for whatever reason.Lastly, my personal experience with Peter and Jacob, whether working on my truck, or more recently on my visiting mothers car while I was out of town, whom I needed someone to look at it and shoot me straight about the problem from afar instead of selling (preventative) maintenance for an (active) problem, I trusted Yost automotive to do these jobs and do not regret it.So speaking as an informed individual on the subject, I would recommend this location for your repair and maintenance needs. Sometimes, it is worth the wait.

The current group does not live up to the good reputation. I found them to be inept, charging for services not needed and not taking accountability for obvious mistakes. Very poor customer service. Ill never go back.

After calling and receiving confirmation to bring the vehicle over I was told the vehicle was too old and they would not work on it... waist of time and money I had it towed twice. I said the year on the phone. They acted dismissive and annoyed.
