Today’s start for me was not a good one.I was late for work then to make matters worse I get locked out. Right when I thought things can turn for worse I saw this little gem and wanted to give it a try. Nothing beats fresh coffee and a reuben sandwich. Satisfied with lunch I was able to get some work done and needless to say my day in the end turned to be pretty good. The restaurant is beautiful, the staff was friendly, and perfect.

I went to Paul to get tomato soup and a quiche. It took more than 30 minutes to get the quiche. I had to remind the cashier I had not got the quiche twice. When it came, it was horrible. Having lived in Europe, especially Belgium and France I have eaten the best quiches. I was very disappointed and I think this is the last time I will order a quiche.Thanks.

Discovered this place on my way to work a few weeks ago. Its about 3 blocks from my office, so plenty of time to pop in, pick up a Pastry and still get to work on time. The first 2 times, there was only one server, and she took her time to even acknowledge me. She appeared to be busy preparing online orders. The 3rd time I visited, there was a line out the door and still, just 1 server. I decided to email the company and tell them about my experiences at this location. Their suggestion was that I should try ordering ahead online, which I did today, 1/2 hour ahead. When I arrived, I was told that my order wasnt ready, hadnt even been started, and there 2 servers, no waiting customers and a pretty nonchalant attitude. Unless you have time to waste, and dont really appreciate great customer service,DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY HERE.! Since posting this review, someone from Paul reached out to me via email, asked for my phone #, so we could have a discussion about my experiences in their establishment. I obliged, gave them a time when I could be reached, and NOTHING!No phone call, even after I emailed again to let them know I was available. That was almost 2 weeks ago. Wow, if this is how management handles bad reviews, no wonder service is so bad at their establishment.

If I don’t have time to walk up to Tatte, I sometimes stop here. Pastries are fine—it feels like a French bakery you might find in an airport. Service is extremely slow—it took them 30 mins to serve 5 people in front of me.

Not only was the quiche overpriced, but it was the saltiest quiche I have ever eaten -- and I have eaten a lot of quiche. Not only that but it tasted like they put Dijon mustard it in. Horrible meal that I did not even finish. I have lived in Switzerland and France and can tell them no quiche tastes like that. Paul in Europe is excellent -- in the U.S. not so much.

Ive been going to this Paul for 4 years and its always been good food, a lovely atmosphere for chats and work, and slow but friendly service. Rating now because my last visit the manager was incredible! They were understaffed and I waited over 30 minutes past when my order said ready for pickup to no avail. I decided to cancel my order to save everybodys time. The manager not only promptly cancelled and refunded my order, but gave me a free coffee, sandwich, AND croissant!! Totally unexpected and really made my day.

First time in DC, stopped in to try this place. Great atmosphere, I’ll call it “colonial chic” and the food is wonderful! Pictured is a ham and Swiss croissant and a sausage, egg and cheese croissant (the cheese is light and nutty, not sure what it was but it was fabulous). It looks boutique-y while still being inexpensive! It’s a fantastic little place to grab a super fast bite and wait out the rain.

Once we got food it was very very good. But the process is confusing and the gal that was behind the counter had to keep repeating herself that she was ONLY taking orders for bakery items. Would be faster if they just took orders with one person and passed it along with any bakery items. Also quite $$$

I have enjoyed this location for several years. Today was a different story. I was there at 11 am; it wasnt crowded, and no one in line. I saw all the pre-made salads in the case and told the staff person which I wanted that I would eat outside. The staff person said, no, you cant have that one. Well make you one and serve it to you outside, she said. Well, 30 minutes later, when it did not arrive, my companion suggested that she forgot. Sure enough, she did NOT put the order in. I showed the two staff person the table tent with a number and said that I hadnt been served. She was unfriendly to begin with, and when I explained to another staff person what happened, the other staff person was also shocked to hear her attitude. The other staff person apologized. The person who forgot did not and was full of negativity.

Great food, pricey but worth it. Unfortunately, I rarely go there anymore because the logistics of ordering is not great. On several occasions I have just abandoned my place in line because I chose not to wait 10-12 minutes just to get a croissant to go. Woefully understaffed handling the order process. To be fair, thats not just a Paul issue - many other places are dealing with the same problem. I hope they staff up soon because I love their baked goods and breads.

This is a great bakery in the heart of GWU. It is located in a small shopping center that looks like it is an extension of an old brick building, which makes for a cool indoor courtyard feel. There is sufficient seating inside Paul ad well. The bakery case is filled with more than what is listed on their online menu like quiche, chicken sandwiches, eclairs, etc. But you also never know exactly what they make from day to day, so your preferred pastry may be available one day but not the next. Very reasonable prices for the center of DC.

French style bakery opened early for breakfast. Food was hit and miss - the vegetable quiche and coffee were good but the croissant was not crispy enough. There were not enough service staff that it was a very slow wait. One guy making coffees, heating food, serving customers, while the other staff just stood there and waited. A lot of uncleaned tables too.

The outdoor tables were stained at 10 am as if nobody ever wiped them. No kidding a dead mouse was under one of the tables. The spot is still under stuffed, two ladies over the counter were already tired and frustrated handling a long line of tourists. I spent $70 for coffee and snacks for 3 of us. Food was below average and coffee was tasteless. So sad as this place is nothing in comparison to the European coffee shop.

This location used to be a lot better. Now it is consistently below average. Starting from simple things like napkins, salt, pepper are not to be found. But it gets worse when it comes to staff. When the order taker doesn’t know what’s Americano and just pour’s coffee from the pot, that’s management and training problem. I feel like Paul is on a similar down slope as Starbucks. Very good pastries at a fair price. Good, friendly service, but very long wait to get our food. Dont even bother with the Benedict!! Instead of serving it on an English muffin, it was served on dry, white toast. We had two orders, so four eggs... all four were poached HARD, yokes cooked completely. Hollandaise sauce was good and fresh, but there was very little. I asked for more and had to wait a long time to get it. The Canadian bacon was very thin, there should have been a bit more. The American coffee was very weak... watery. We ended up paying $40 for 2 Eggs Benedict, a croissant, one orange juice and one coffee. WAY tool much money for what we got and the worst Eggs Benedict Ive ever had.
