This place is incredibly inconsiderate and treats community members inhumanely. I am appalled at what I just witnessed by staff around 3:35pm on 2/28/21. I saw a staff member jab a large stick at a man asleep on the ground (before anyone else judges, the man was tucked away off the sidewalk in a little nook area where he was not bothering a single soul and not blocking an entrance/exit). There was no reason for your staff to harass the man that was merely sleeping! I at first didn’t even realize there was a person there until the white guy started jabbing the man asleep with the stick!I’m a resident of this community and work just a couple blocks away. I’m ashamed of your staff’s behavior and ethics. I’m also extremely concerned for this company’s ethics and ability to interact humanely with the community. I’ll be sure to let my coworkers know as we all work in this community. Our dollars should not be going to businesses actively hurting our community and it’s most vulnerable members. How would you like it if you found yourself homeless, cold, and alone and then some guy with a 5 foot long stick jab you while you are asleep harming and bothering no one? I would never wish such shameful treatment on my worst enemy.Do better.
OVERPRICED OVERPRICED OVERPRICEDI was appalled to see what they are getting away with in there. Do yourself a favor and dont shop here.... or if you must..... remember you can ways get the same feeling just tossing your money out the window going 90 down the highway. Also beware of cashiers charging you even more as they ring you up.... because they absolutely do. It happened to me TWICE there.
Everything is overpriced. Wine that you can get for $9 at a regular store sells for $16. White claw 12 variety pack sells over $26, when it is typically about $16. I absolutely wouldn’t come back because it feels like they are ripping me off. It is very unfortunate. It is such a charming place, but nothing is reasonable there.
I was on my way home from work and decided to stop in to look at their wine selection since it was on the way to my bus stop. They didnt have anything I wanted so I walked out and the cashier came out with a stick in his hand and literally yelled and accused me of stealing something. I get that the neighborhood is sketchy and they probably do have a problem, but I wont be going back in there again. Too much.
Good selection and friendly people
City Foods is my absolute go to. They have a great selection, great price point, and awesome service. Bob is my favorite cashier, he has the most positive demeanor, I always leave smiling!
Best corner store in Belltown! Fun staff, creative and delicious deli foods in the cold case, and open the same hours (7am to midnight) every day. Im not a drinker but, to the untrained eye, the beer and wine selection looks impressive. Worth a visit!
Great experience with the cashier. Highly recommended!
Great selection of groceries while there grab a quick deli sandwich. You may get a history lesson as you pay which was a nice supprise on a Sunday evening.
Between the back in 5 minutes sign randomly on the door and other arbitrary hours--like being kicked out of the store because were closed in spite of the doors being unlocked, the lights fully on, and the line of people checking out a full 4 hours before the listed closing time--this convenient store is anything but.Dont bother gambling whether or not youll be able to get service here. Just cross Denny to Walgreens or Shell. They actually follow their hours and you might as well save some money, too.
Ive been here twice now and each time the staff were pleasant and fairly busy with customers... which is surprising on how badly the reviews are. Me thinks there are some millennial snowflake yuppies who expect food in 1.21 seconds and want it certified open source, cage free with their Amazon discount for 90% off.Come on people, step outside of your ivory tower and think about what its like for a small business owner slinging sandwiches. They are rather large portioned sandwiches and we are here several times a week. First half sandwich you eat for lunch, the other half for mid day snack when blood sugar drops.Get the Ruben, you are welcome.
High prices! Im sure its convenient for those living nearby but I think youd actually save money going to Whole Foods just a few blocks away.
BEWARE: The reason why so many people complain about how expensive this place is, is because the clerk will charge whatever they want if you are not paying attention! 3 times it happened to me, and 3 times the final amount I was being charged didnt make sense so I asked for a ticket, and the guy freaked out, and he re-calculated the total, and realized he made a mistake. 3 times. Either he does it on purpose, or he is high and doesnt realize what he is doing.
Extremely rude staff. Each time I went there I had a bad experience.I walked in here to get a snack and some coffee. I asked the storekeeper where the coffee was and without even bothering to look up he pointed to the end of the store where it was kept. Upon reaching the container, i found it empty, I smiled politely and told him its empty in case he didnt realize it. To which he abruptly replied yeah its empty, so what?. Will never go there again.
This has to be the worse place I have ever shopped. I have gone there many times over the past 3 years. So this isnt a one time hate bash of a place. Prices are through the roof like $9.00 for a box of cereal. The staff very rarely says welcome, never heard them say can I help you. Maybe once ever 5 times they might say thanks. Most of the time there is never a word spoken bot even the price of you purchase.
Just called them to know if their product was halal. The person replying was rude and sounded like a total idiot. He said, I have no clue, you have to come down and check. Good luck idiot. I am never coming to slicks like you, ever.
Im not sure why there are so many negative comments, perhaps in the past this may have not been the best of places to shop(?). I use to go by for late night snacks, smokes, and beer back in 2002-05 when I lived in Belltown and worked at Shortys Bar, and still shop there even to this day whenever Im in the area. City Foods is under a fairly new ownership and has improved tremendously. There is always fresh Deli food and produce as well as a whole plethora of micro brews, beer on tap for growlers, domestic and import beers to choose from as well as fresh dairy products and an endless selection of tasty energy drinks and sodas. Massive frozen foods section and toiletries, plus other miscellaneous items such as pet food, various snacks, tobacco products and even incense and fragrant candles to choose from. As for prices, yes some items may be a little higher than a supermarket but you can find good deals if you spend a little time browsing thru the store. Keep in mind, I imagine the store must pay a fortune on rent and electric costs alone not to mention pay all their employees and still be able to turn a profit in one of the most expensive cities in the country. So overall I would have to say their prices are fair and what you would expect for convenience. The staff are very friendly, knowledgeable about most of their products, and will always do their best to help you find whatever you are looking for....and feel free to bring your well behaved furry four-legged friend because City Foods is dog friendly too! Overall I would have to say they have earned 5 out of 5 stars due to all of their improvements and awesome staff. Hope my review helps. Thanks for reading!
Its basically a convenience store with better selection of items, but at convenience store prices
A good place to pickup those one or two items you need to hold you over till you can make it to the larger grocery store.
Quick. Friendly. Nice selection.
Their deli is excellent 👌
Its a convenience store and has most essential groceries which you might need urgently. Slightly pricey.
Good local business, need to get the growler situation fixed
Very prejudice owner who dont like white people
Wonderful place to use stolen credit cards.
Avoid!! Overpriced and with a rude staff. There are cheaper places nearby and if you must get something fast late at night there are other places with staff that cares about customers
Good variety need more organic
Long time neighborhood store. Kinda expensive.
Charged me $18 for a bill of $10. When asked for a receipt, the cashier guy freaked out and started asking me to come back next day and talk to the manager. Going through the reviews here, seems like regular business. Not going back ever.
Cheating customers in broad daylight. They charged me more than the bill. My friends had similar experience too. Avoid the place.
Very expensive for the most basic items!
Great location
Pretty expensive.. wont go back there.
Got chicken rap, chips and zip drink, and totall 20$ so expensive and rap was dry and small, not going to come back for food
Food does not look so good. The cashier faked me money. I paid more than I bought!.
Most of the markups were between 50-100%
Average convenience store
Awesome sandwichs
Super expensive
8.99 for Torpedos, Im in!
Liked it
Better go to Walgreens or 7/11.
