Pleasant surprise of food selection. There is just enough options to make you take a step back and contemplate what you want. Make sure you look out for all the menus and options that are hanging up. I had the breakfast sandwich which was made with a cheaper and chive scone! But the waffles look really good too.
Good local coffee shop for a quick pick me up and maybe a bite. Came here a few mornings last month and it was usually pretty calm and not busy. Ordered a dirty chai and a veggie breakfast sandwich to go. Both were pretty good but every time I went it would take like 15-20 minutes even if it wasnt that busy.
This little place exceeded my expectations! I enjoyed one of their breakfast sandwiches with bacon, swiss, and egg on a cheddar chive scone. The egg is more like a baked egg patty with herbs and it was delicious. This would make a great study spot as they have plenty of seating indoors, though not much outdoor seating at the moment. Ill be sure to return!
Great coffee and breakfast spot. My friend got waffles that looked amazing, I got a breakfast sandwich which was on a scone and surprisingly that wasnt my favorite (prefer a good ol fashioned croissant or bagel but thats just me). My mocha hit the spot. Solid cafe Id def go back to!
This is an unpretentious experience with unique cafe options. We got the tart waffle w/ the breakfast combo, and a bacon cheddar scone sandwich. I loved how the waffle and scone had some texture, crispy edges are KEY and they executed well on both. I thought the tart waffle toppings could’ve stood out more, the jam especially didn’t strike me as anything special compared to storebought, but it was still good. Eggs and bacon on the side were both great, eggs were cheesy and nicely seasoned, and bacon had some crisp and some chew. I like that they offer Turkish coffee, it’s a nice change of pace. The scone sandwich was a solid hearty breakfast sandwich with good flavor in the scone.I think if I lived nearby this would be a good easy, simple, reliable option. Probably wouldn’t drive here as a destination, unless I was meeting a Ballard friend and wanted to avoid the hullabaloo of Ballard brunch.
Friendly staff, cozy atmosphere. There were out of pastries so we made
Went here for brunch on a Sunday. It wasnt crowded. Found a table right away. We ordered a bunch of stuff. Manakeesh, avocado toast, hummingbird and tart waffle, veggie, swiss and egg sandwich and a mocha. The service was quick. I found the toppings on the waffles that I ordered to be a unique combination, I havent seen those at any other place. Everything was good, but nothing outstanding. The ambience is alright, but the decor is meh. Overall, its probably fine to try out the place once.
I’ve been going to salt and sugar on a regular basis and I love it. They have awesome food and coffee, however I felt the urge to write the review now because of the new paintings they just recently added on the wall with the very colorful abstract female faces. Those are out of this world, I love the ambience that kind of art created and I think they are on the right track now to get that place to have that eclectic vibe we all want in a coffee shop.
This is not a bakery. I don t understand why it has bakery in the name. I walked there super excited to get some croissants or a baguette, but the people at the counter had no idea what I was talking about. I thought there would be pastries, since it said bakery in the name, but the only thing I found were some muffins... . I walked out without buying anything. I had expectations. The name is confusing 😔
Waffles were amazing, counter service was cold. The two of us got a Washington waffle and a cobbler waffle, Id definitely recommend either. The Apple butter on the Washington was a perfect balance with the melted cheese and pancetta, it tasted homemade. The cobbler was everything youd want in a sweet waffle. Our lattes were also great, I had a lavender honey latte. The woman behind the counter seemed peeved to be taking our order and acted as though we were inconveniencing her as well as talking down to my friend as she was explaining something, her inflection just seemed demeaning like she was talking to a child. I then watched her wave a finger back in fourth in another customers face and roll her eyes at another, so at least it wasnt special treatment for just me and my friend. The woman who made and brought us our waffles seemed incredibly kind and thoughtful so at least the food is made with love lol.All in all, I would consider going back to try more of the menu because the food was really good 👌
I hate to give this place one star, but given what I observed while waiting for my food made me NEVER want to return again.First, there’s a pandemic going on and I counted three workers with their masks down around their chin. Look, no one loves wearing a mask, but ESPECIALLY when you are working directly with people and food, you just need to wear it.Then, there was a worker whom, behind the counter, right in plain sight, pulled a tissue from her back pocket and began blowing and picking her nose. I watched her put the tissue back in her pocket and NOT WASH HER HANDS, and continued touching things. I saw her touch the counter, go into the refrigerator, and bring someone their meal.I was blown away. Is cleanliness not a thing here? It’s too bad, over heard great things about this place, but I just cannot and will not be going back.
It would be four stars but for two glaring problems... But first, what I liked about Salt&Sugar. The place was in a really good space. The people who were eating there seemed to be regulars, and my BLT waffle was mostly yummy. The first problem: barely any bacon in the waffle. And secondly: the wait was way too long. Unreasonably long.
Manakeesh, baklava and Lebanese coffee make an excellent breakfast!!!!
I just ordered from here, on Uber Eats, am amazed on the quality, super tasty, the coffee plus the grub was delicious, how have I not heard of this place before us beyond me.Highly recommended!
This is our “go-to” family owned bakery and coffee shop with fresh baked scones, excellent coffee and homemade hummus.
Poor service. Paid parking for 40 minutes. By the time my parking meter expired, my sandwich still wasn’t ready.
So friendly and kind! Nothing fancy but tons of options and more food/breakfast options than youd expect. My neighbor swears by their breakfast sandwich. Fresh bagels on the weekends
Placed an order in person. They screwed up the massive sandwich order in front of me. I was prepared for an extra wait. During my 2 waffle order, 6 others with same order method as mine were taken and served after me. It was not a complicated order. The drink made for others after my order were more complex. Out of 6 workers one refused to were a mask appropriately and had a displeased look on her face anytime she made contact with customers. It was my first and last time coming to this business. I regret wasting my time.
Family-owned and operated, dog friendly cafe. They have the most incredible toasts, sandwiches, and waffles, and the nicest staff. I just moved to Ballard and have already become a regular. If you are in the area and looking for delicious food in a comfortable and friendly environment, I strongly recommend that you visit the Salt and Sugar Cafe!
Coffee and food is great. Their savory waffles are to die for. After going once I went three more times within two weeks. Definitely plan to go again soon. They have some board games available, but all but the chess set are missing pieces. But still a good place to sit and eat and have a quiet conversation.
TLDR: Get a savory waffle! Apple butter is really good! There is little or no signal for AT&T users here.Menu on back wall. You can have a full Waffle with half and half flavors.Parking is street side only. Metered parking spaces--free on Sundays.Spacious dining area and work spaces. Seems like most people grab to go rather than dine in. There is also artwork on the walls available for purchase--QR codes are below each image.Service: order and pay at the front, seat yourself once given a number, water yourself from the water dispenser, bus your own table.Cobbler Waffle: I love the blueberries and brown sugar. The Waffle was nice and soft too.Washington Waffle: Savory! Something about that cheddar cheese just hits the spot. Also, that apple butter is bomb---I love it!
My favorite cafe in the city! Coffee, waffles, sandwiches, and pastries are excellent. Staff is very friendly and helpful! Im honored to have become a regular here.
Caprese toasted sandwich. Food nirvana. Friendly staff.
This is a lovely, homey cafe perfect for breakfast, lunch, or a quick snack and coffee-break. I highly recommend their waffles (savory and sweet) and definitely give their manakeesh and Lebanese coffee a try! Order at the counter, but ample seating to sit and stay awhile. Their coffee is excellent!
Such lovely humans work here! You will receive a warm welcome and genuinely kind service. Try the Lebanese blend coffee and the savory waffles. They also have free drip refills, outlets for your laptop, and a relaxed vibe. A great place to hang out!
My favorite coffee in Ballard
Omg the waffles here are fabulous! Big fan! Could also be a great place to work. I do think it was a bit dirty.
This is a good place to Chill, Relax you’ll feel like home in this placeLove itLove itHighly recommendI ate the manakeesh which is kind of pita bread (homemade) with Mediterranean ingredients and a scone kind of bread filled with ham cheese bacon
I tried the legendary lox breakfast sandwich... I am so sorry Einstein 😔 WOW! The Salt & Sugar Lox Breakfast Sandwich on a scone was incredibly delicious. The scone was so fluffy and had a delicate flavor that matched perfectly with everything between the top and the bottom. Will definitely have it again, as this is now my 1st favorite type of lox breakfast sandwich. 😋
The food was not to the liking.
Wonderful, leisurely Sunday here for the first time. Savory waffle was a delicious surprise. Honey lavender latte was so wonderful. Lovely people, large farm table to read the paper and meet others. Delightful. Next time I’m trying the avocado toast!
We got the BLT to go. It was cheap and not great for the price. It came on cheap grocery store bread with soggy lettuce. Maybe other menu items are better, but I won’t be visiting again.
Lovely little cafe. Had a delicious breakfast sandwich and good coffee. The folks were super friendly and helpful. Good light, good ambience...hung out for a while in great comfort!
Absolutely amazing savory scone-based breakfast sandwiches, and the Tart waffle - WOW. Incredible food and excellent customer service. I wish I didnt live so far away!
Great spot for breakfast or lunch, I love the lebanese coffee and the washington waffle
The food looked a lot better than it tasted. The eggs and bacon were fine but my waffle had a funny taste--like soap mixed in with the batter. Pricey for what it is, but friendly staff.
Great coffee and the waffles are awesome! Great crust while still being soft and airy on the inside. Well be back again!
AMAZING food i swear we ordered half the menu and we ate it all!!! definetly would reccomend :)
I love this place! The owners are so friendly and helpful and the food is pretty good. Love the Legendary Breakfast sandwich!
This place makes some of the best cold brew Ive ever had and at a way more reasonable price than other places in the area. Was pleasantly surprised, will be coming back!
One of my favorite spots for coffee! The owners are lovely and welcoming and the space itself is warm and inviting.
My favorite cafe! The lattes and the breakfast sandwiches are some of the best ever. The ambience is so welcoming and the servers are so kind. Prices are very reasonable. Perfect stop in on any morning!
This is my favorite Breakfast and Lunch spot by far. Wonderful new owners who have expanded the menus. Great atmosphere and food. The best waffles I have every had. Highly recommend them!
Very friendly and accomodating staff! Great place to grab some breakfast or lunch. They have a decent amount of tea selections as well and use a high quality brand too (Rishi). The owner is very inviting and fond of international soccer and will have the games on in the cafe when possible (Premier and Champions League I have seen here on the projector before).
Awesome Place. The Food here is freaking delicious. Healthy and fresh. I come here every Saturday and Sunday and grab a cortado, legendary breakfast sandwich and an oat meal. Food here has a unique taste. Must Try here!
Every I come here, I begin to feel like I found MY coffee shop. Glad I chose here to be the first time I tried avocado toast.
Second try and much improved experience. Very friendly, family owned and operated. Waffles are huge and plenty of toppings. Good strong Expresso drinks. Nice addition to the typical Ballard breakfast scene
Just tried the philly cheesesteak for the first time. Yummy yummy! Whatever they use to season the steak is amazing. Definitely a top recommendation!
We had brunch here last week and my son and daughter loves it.
Food and coffee are just excellent. I ordered the classic ham and cheese sandwich + half waffle and both were delicious!! The staff is super friendly and nice.
Ordered coffee and veg scone sandwich via Uber eats and was phenomenal!! Perfect balance of scone and tomato jam and the drip coffee was delicious :)
The food was AMAZING and the service was excellent. Super friendly staff who seemed genuinely excited and happy to be there and go above and beyond to help.
Excellent attention, nice worker and excellent breakfast, I recommend the staff is excellent
Excellent customer service on top of great food!
Slow service and really small selection of baked goods for a bakery. Cheesecake was weird. Some custard like filling with what tasted like store-bought berry jam spread on top. Spendy and mediocre, counter person was a bit rude too. Probably wont be back.
Always friendly staff, great selection of sweets and sandwiches and always perfectly balanced coffee. It is safe to say I have become a regular.
Their breakfast sandwiches served on savory scones are to die for - hands down my favorite breakfast in Ballard!
Food is great! Very nice setup and service!
Best lox sandwich in the world.
Great selection of savory and sweet waffles, sandwiches and homemade dessert! The coffee is phenomenal too! Will definitely come back for more.
Great service, lovely staff and customers and delicious food. Would eat here again next time I am in Ballard.
Always a friendly place with good drinks, pastries, and sandwiches
Great customer service! I love the ambiance and food selections. They have both savory and sweet waffles yall!
Cozy little spot with authentic Lebanese pastries and coffee. Looking forward to how they grow the business. Super friendly owners and staff
Friendly staff and great scones
The staff is extremely nice, the waffle is crisp but overall a bit of a long wait and average food
Good sandwiches, sweet and savory waffles, big selection of coffee- and tea-based beverages. Pet-friendly.
Great food, great service.
The staff is super friendly and they make their own syrups. I love being able to stop by while Im walked ng my dog and they usually offer her a treat so shell be just as excited to stop by as me lol.
Great cafe with awesome breakfast sandwiches made fresh. Daily specials too.
This store has really cool aesthetics, the menu written on the wall in awesome handwriting and just the decor over all. They had a variety of options for food and the service is super fast and the employees are super friendly. I ordered a smores waffles during this visit to the cafe, and it was delicious, the portions are great for the price of it. Even has wifi!!
Walked in when not busy and not greeted so I didnt try anything. Also couldnt find item on sandwich board outside in the menu inside to figure out price.
Amazing place to grab breakfast every morning. This place is situated right in the heart of ballard. Has board games you can play while sipping their famous Cortado. The staff here are really nice and the food is finger licking delicious. I so highly suggest you folks to check this place out. A definite place to visit twice if you are in ballard :)
