I Came in needing spark plugs and an impellor for a 1978 mercury outboard, and the owner knew the part numbers and where the parts were exactly on his shelf without even looking them up !Dont waste your time shopping across rhe street at the big box marine place, the associates dont know what theyre doing at all!! Always support small business!!

I always take my outboards to Ballard Marine even though it can take an hour to get to Ballard from my house. I trust them to keep my motor running right and give me a fair price. They sell outboards at or below the price of the big chains.

My boat was broken, and the steering column was stuck. I have a Northwood, sixteen foot fishing boat. I went into the shop to drop it for a presumed estimate, on 10/26. On 10/27, I received a phone call back from Dale, who is also the owner. Dale said that he had started the work already, and was completed. He told me that he was done, and that I owe him a $1007.05. I was speechless, and did not expect that high price and only presumed it would just be a price quote. I inquired, why the price was so high, and told him I would come in to see the workmanship and what repairs had been made. I was already irritated that he did not give me a quote for the work that needed to be done, as well as confirm with me that he would begin the work. When I went into the shop, I asked him to explain in detail what was the itemized items for the bill. Dale stated that the part cost around $100, and that labor took him 6 hours. I was still appalled that it took that long for a simple fix, and that he didnt run it by me first before beginning repairs. I tried to bargain with him, that I would pay all cash up front if it was possible to lower the costs. I initially offered $500.00 due to the fact I did not believe that it took that much time in labor hours to repair. Dale refused saying he wouldnt take that, but added $100.00In the end, we agreed and I ended up paying $600.00 At this point, I was frustrated and just wanted to take my boat home. I would not return to Ballard Marine due to my unpleasant experience here. I did not get a initial price quote, work confirmation to start the work, what type of work that needed to be done, as well as the fact that I feel like an exaggerated labor hours it took to complete the work. Yes, it did only take him a day to complete the work, however I would still not return due to the fact that I had to go through all of this, and feel like this situation was treated unfairly and wish other potential customers will take this into consideration before taking their service here.

Dale seemed to be a good and professional when I first time walked into the shop. Very knowledgeable. When it comes to servicing the motor with asking questions what would be the next actionable steps, he has lost his temper and told me to stop silly questions, and stop wasting his time. Im calling because I needed his advice on the phone whether I need to dispose the used motor or receive service. The estimate to decide to fix an issue would also highly cost. Im deeply disappointed in his professional manner, and feel terrible after I thought that He and I would be in a good relationship down the road.

These guys are the best. I have taken my boat in to Ballard Marine on several occasions and they have always been respectful, courteous, efficient, and timely. I took my boat in about a month ago and they had it back to me a full day prior to when they originally said they would. They correctly diagnosed the issue and had my boat running like new. Great service all around.

I have used Dale and Ballard Marine Services as my only boat mechanic since I got a boat in 1992. Thats 26 years! They know their stuff, explain things clearly, and charge fairly. I can always call Dale with a question, sometimes from out on the water! The best!

My experience at Ballard Marine has been excellent. Dale is a professional. I needed repairs for my 60hp mercury in the peak of boating season, Dale came through for me, ordered the needed parts from Mercury and fixed the problem. It is very difficult to find an honest mechanic, I am glad that I found one.
