We stopped by this shop less than an hour before they closed, the day before setting out on a long bike tour. Even though they were super busy and we were supposed to make an appointment, Nick and Smiley checked our bikes over, fixed some problems, and went above and beyond by giving us many many tips, adjustments, and pointers for our bikes- fit and mechanically, as well as for our trip. They were SO NICE, which was a very pleasant surprise (As a woman, I’m usually on my guard at bike shops because they are often rude and patronizing, but at R&E they were just friendly and helpful!! Thank you so much Nick and Smiley, we will continue to remember your kindness and helpfulness.

I love this shop for their friendly, community-minded vibe, great selection of parts and excellent mechanics. Theyre located on my commuter route to UW so Ive been stopping in for years now (undergrad and grad school, the saga continues...) and have always been treated with courtesy and respect. I cant wait for the day I get to walk in and order my custom bike. Support your local OG bike shop!

A couple years back, I had R+E build up a set of mountain wheels. Its difficult to compete against online shops, but R+E was reasonable with their pricing. With wheels, theres can be a huge difference in quality of the build, even if the same hubs, rims and spokes are used. Thats what people say, anyway. Two years later, Ive now hit these wheels pretty hard and they dont even need to be trued. Thats a huge difference from another set of wheels that I bought online. Those only saw maybe 30 miles before the spokes were popping and the wheels needed some TLC. The set built by R+E have held up much better.

I had an old custom tandem repaired three years ago by R+E. They not only found a clever way to deal with the break and rust, they improved the bike and the price was below belief.I was so pleased that the following year I bought a new custom tandem from R+E. It was a fantastic experience from start to finish. Were a challenging team to fit (56 captain, 62 stoker). The bike fits us fantastically, way better than our old tandem. The bike handles like a dream and is more than up to the ten thousand+ miles we put on it each year, much of it loaded touring on gravel roads but also a fair amount of simple training loops of 40-150 miles. As an added bonus, this new tandem cost us less than our quarter-century old tandem did. Great bike, great price, great service, whats not to love?We picked up our tandem two days before STP. The mechanics stayed late to make sure every adjustment was absolutely perfect. This was really appreciated because we took off in the dark the next morning to ride it 400 miles home. Yes, it fit so well that our first ride was 400 miles over two days, much of it in the dark. It was like it was made for us, which it was.

Lame. Dropped by to see if I could borrow an Allen wrench for a minute to switch my friends broken bike seat. I normally carry one but my saddlebag was pilfered last week by some sticky fingers downtown. The tech said that they dont loan out tools but that he would be happy to switch the seat for me with a $5 charge. We both know it would take less than a minute and while I understand the reasoning behind the policy, dude its an Allen wrench. Bikes are an expensive hobby and I think a little friendliness goes a long way when Im looking to blow my next chunk of change on something I dont need - that kind of elitist attitude plagues the shops of Seattle, where every wrench fancies himself king of the knowledge and please dont cross the moat without your credit card in hand. I wont be back.

I had a bike fitted and built, Smiley and Dan took care of me. They spent hours answering my questions about the best bike and accessories for me and how best to work around the arthritis in my hands. When the bike was complete, the wrong disc brake was delivered. They put a mechanical disc brake (so I could ride the stp) on until the hydraulic was delivered. I returned to the shop at my convenience and they removed the mechanical brake and installed the hydraulic. They are a fantastic bike shop. I wish I would have found them when I first started riding 30 years ago. The bike fits like a glove with less pain and loads more pleasure. I would highly recommend R and E Cycles, Dan, Smiley, and the crew!

Great service! After buying a beautiful Rodriguez road bike last year and enjoying the custom fit, I realized I could be a lot more comfortable on a touring bike that I had purchased from another shop. I brought it in to R+E and Smiley turned my touring bike into a love it ride with his expert fit adjustments.

Came in after walking by the shop for years. I had a small problem with my breaks that I couldnt fix myself. The guys took my bike in the back and had it back to me in 5 minutes. They provided excellent customer service, were cordial and friendly. They also have a really good selection of accessories to chose from. I will be back for sure because of the service I received there.

R+E Cycles have been very accommodating while I visit almost weekly as I restore a vintage bike. They have probably the most friendly and least condescending attitude that I have encountered at a bike shop. Would recommend to anyone looking to get their bike fixed, and their custom frames look great too!

Mike and the rest of the expert crew re-tooled and overhauled my 14 year old Rodriguez bike and got it looking (and running) as good as new! Excellent communication, lots of options, and clear explanations in non-technical regular language was much appreciated.

These guys fitted me for a Rohloff Makeshift Journey and after crossing Mongolia, China, and the US with it, I now consider it my favorite apendage. Awesome bike from the best shop on the planet. I would rate them 6 stars, but they still dont have a free all-you-can-eat buffet set up at Smileys counter.
