Stopped in after my second Burke flat in one month to get stuff for going tubeless. The staff member I spoke with extremely knowledgeable and helpful. They sent me off with exactly what I needed, including the knowledge to get the job done. Fantastic shop.
This is such a great (and women-owned!) little bike shop. Theres a reason theres usually a small crowd outside waiting for the great service and advice Free Range provides. I stopped by while heading down the Burke-Gilman to see if they could fix a nagging shifting issue. Even though it was late in the day, they quickly diagnosed issues with my cabling, fixed it, and got me riding home in a half-hour.
Hey if you want a great bike shop ran by good honest people, this is the place to go. They squeezed in my brother in law who got a flat on the nearby riding path. Fixed the flat, found an issue with the quick release front wheel, fixed it, fixed a problem with the front break and install a screw on the back rack. All for a very reasonable price. Good group of ladies, give them your business.
I can’t sleep because I keep thinking about how safe I feel inside Free Range Cycles. They’re not a big shop; they don’t do everything and they’re not on the cutting edge of technology. What they are is what cycling needs. The capable femme energy, the time tested fad-shirking gear, the experience of finding and making space in a painfully male-dominated field. As a non-binary person I will be sending all the queer people I know to this shop (if I can’t fix it myself 😆).
Best bicycle shop in Seattle. If you need repair or parts or a new custom bike this is the shop to go to! Awesome service and expert mechanics who are kind, go above and beyond other shops, and leave your bike better than ever.
For the past few years, Ive been doing my own bike maintenance on my beloved road bike. Id like to think that Im relatively handy but recently realized my bike needed more intense work than I was willing to take on myself. I took it to Free Range Cycles and had them do a full service on it, including new cables/housings, and a new bottom bracket. Nikki did an excellent job! It shifts so smoothly and rides like a dream. I dropped it off in the morning (I had an appointment) and picked it up that afternoon. The cost was reasonable and well worth it. Highly recommended.
Friendly team, very knowledgeable about bicycle parts, quality repair service.
I own a local bike shop and was in a bind and needed a bike box for one of my customers. They gladly gave me a bike box for free after I offered to pay them for it. Super helpful and saved my day from my lack of planning. Would recommend them to anyone. THANK YOU!
Friendly staff and great service. Im always surprised on value you get on services here. The staff is knowledgeable. They enjoy working on bikes and it shows. 5/5.
Awesome little conveniently located bike shop. Shawna was super helpful getting me the accessories I needed and fixing up a few little things on my bike. I will be returning for all my future bike needs. Highly recommend!
Great local bike shop. Shawna and Nikki were both pleasant to work with and responsive via email to any questions/concerns I had. Had them tune up my commuter bike after having just moved here and would definitely recommend!
You know how, sometimes, you dont realize how much your maintenance is lacking until you get a proper tune up? My bike felt brand new (maybe even better) after pick up. Their turnaround was only a day--insanely fast, considering how much work it needed--and their prices are reasonable. They have great covid precautions, too, though I hope that wont be a factor for too much longer. I cant recommend FRC enough!
I needed my brake pads replaced. They were nice, fixed what I needed quickly, the price was good and they even checked and tweaked a few other things. Also, they seemed to be serious about social distancing.Update Aug 12, 2021: I visited there again recently, and had another positive experience. Friendly staff and good pricing. The job seems to have been done well but I am no expert in the field.
Wow, what a great place. I came in with a snapped gear cable and they fixed it promptly so I could get back on the road. Also adjusted my brakes and lubed everything and it rides so much better. Above and beyond. Very kind, welcoming, and highly skilled staff.
Free Range is an amazing local bike shop, thats female owned, and actively contributes to the Seattle community. Not only that, but they go above and beyond for service. I had a manufacturing problem and they swapped an unbuilt bikes wheel for my defective one, and are taking the hit to wait for the warranty wheel to be shipped to the shop to build up and sell the new bike, all so I could make my group ride this weekend! They didnt have to do that, if I had bought on online bike, Id be waiting a month plus.Hold up they are calling me now... No joke... Mid review to say my bike is done, a day earlier than expected!A couple years ago, I broke my chain on the Burke, they fixed for only parts cost. Ive been a customer ever since and would recommend them to everyone. Thank you Moira, for an incredibly informed buying experience, converting tubeless for me and then re-converting after the super rare freehub issue. You rocked it!Always buy LBS!
Absolutely hands down the best bike shop in Seattle. The attention to detail in the servicing department is top notch. Can’t recommend these folks enough! Great location right on the Burke, and rad selection of bikes as well! Keep up the great work freerange!
Called to see if they had a Surly model I was looking for. They didnt answer their phone and their message actually says they dont return calls!Called Counterbalance Cycle next; theyll be getting my business.
Shawna and the crew run a top notch shop with fantastic and friendly service. The pinnacle of what an LBS should be.
Free Range feels like a garage your friend might have where the conversation is always chill, the bikes are repaired expertly, and everyone is friendly and respectful of your time and money. They wont push you for repairs/items you dont need, and are upfront about costs. The people here rock and will work hard to earn your repeat business!
Super chill, friendly, and helpful!!I got a flat tire on my way to work. Most bike shops were closed, but the folks at Free Range were open and hard at work. They fixed up my rear tire, replacing the rim tape just in case that was contributing to the issue, and offered some helpful advice for maintaining my e-bike. 5 stars for friendliness, helpfulness, and expediency!
Great spot to get bike repairs and advice on bikes (and buy bikes). Had them install tubeless tires and fix bikes on multiple occasions. Always friendly and extremely helpful. Fantastic small, local bike shop. Repairs done quickly and expertly.
This is a really great bike shop, for new bikes and for repair work. The staff are always kind, supportive and very very knowledgable. Free Range also has a relaxed comfortable atmosphere.
Such an awesome experience here. They arent going to overcharge you on service and will make sure youre happy. Take a ride make sure its right is exactly what they want. Some super awesome ladies here. Thanks for the set up!
One of the longest running shops in Seattle, Freerange continues to be one of the best as well. A great place for WTF/women riders to talk with experienced women mechanics and riders - the shop has been woman owned and run since the start. Theyre one of the largest Surly and Salsa dealers by volume, and can help you decide which model would best suite your needs - from commuting to touring.
They were super friendly, and even adjusted my shifters and tightened my brakes for free! Covid protocols seemed pretty strong, theyre operating appointment only and they met me outside the front door to discuss my bike issues.
Great communication and excellent work. The first stop for my bike needs.
Wonderful experience. Went in with a flat tire and had no problem at all getting service to fix it. Im always intimidated going into bike shops because I know next to nothing about bikes. But the women at the shop were happy to fix the flat for me and even explain how they did it so I could do it myself in the future. Would highly recommend going here for any bike repair needs.
I brought a new bike in because our air pump didnt have the right adapter... Nikki aired it up for me and gave me a pump adapter for free!THAT is how you build customer loyalty. Thanks yall! 💖
These people know what they are doing. No fuss, no muss, just getting the job done. Im a BIG fan.
Best bike shop in Seattle and its woman owned and operated! Most bike shops are almost comic book shops in their passive hostility and darkness but Free Range is a kind and welcoming shop with great people. Its right off the Burke in Fremont by the chocolate factory so you can easily drop off your bike and catch a bus or walk the rest of the way to work.
This is a great shop. The staff is so helpful and always seem ready to drop what they are doing to answer questions or help out. Everyone I have interacted with there has been honest and unassuming. I have bought bike parts, had repairs done there, and receive mechanical and fitting help from Free Range. I have a couple of other shops i go to occasionally either because of a specialization or they are closer to my home or work, but I am always happy when I find an excuse to go to Free Range.
I was looking for a new salsa bike, so I dropped by this shop to see if they had it in stock. As it turns out, they don’t have a huge selection on hand. Since they didn’t have it on hand, they called around to see if any other competitors had it on hand. No one else had it, so they offered to order it for me. It took less than a week to get into the shop (ordered it Friday, got a call it was ready on Thursday), and the whole process was easy. I’ll definitely go back to them for repairs.
Small shop with great service. Staff is very friendly and relaxed. I came in with a flat tire and got served quickly; they prefer appointments but can definitely help out with quick fixes. Support local business - I highly recommend Free Range Cycles!
Excellent experience with this shop! They were friendly, knowledgeable, and went the extra mile. I really appreciated that they diagnosed the problem quickly and contacted me for the go ahead to fix it rather than just doing it and charging me. Great prices and a nice selection too.
As a life long commuter and long distance tourer, I consider this the best shop in town. Kathleen is very honest and knowledgeable, offering excellent advice and opinions. She is not afraid to challenge my thinking in a constructive way. Willing to take a lot of time to resolve my questions and concerns. Willingness to order up the odd parts and equipment I might need (or want).
Shawna was great, helpful making adjustments to get it right!
Best part was they got the squeek out of my front break that Id been suffering with for years. I had stopped even noticing it, and they got it fixed when adjusting other issues. Thanks!
Great staff, very unassuming and straightforward. Ive gotten multiple tuneups over the past couple years and they treat discoveries and replacement parts like a responsible garage, calling to notify and get approval, explaining the reason why extra maintenance should be done, and presenting a variety of options for tiers of parts. Also great to see multiple female mechanics, bicycling can be a bit of a boys club.
I brought in my single speed bike to get tuned up. not only did they fix everything within the day (i work in the area), but they overhauled the bike. it rides even better than new!in regards to the service, i had a young man and i was shocked at how nice, knowledgeable, and patient he was to give me a few pointers. {first nice hipster. ever!)
This is the best bike shop in Seattle! The staff are friendly, cool and honest. I get all my bicycle repairs done here exclusively!
Great little shop. Thoughtfully stocked for commuters and enthusiasts. Quality service from a knowledgeable owner.
Small store, but theyre able to order the specific items I want, even when nobody else sells them. Always friendly and super helpful.
I wish I could give them a higher rating, but theyre always so grouchy. Wish they had a nice customer service attitude...because then Id give them 5 stars since their repairs are always professional and turnaround time quick. Since theyre my neighborhood shop, I still go here, but dread dealing with them every time!
I came in with brakes that barely worked and gears that shifted by themselves. One of the problems was alleviated, and the other fixed completely, both at no charge. Ive been in on two separate occasions and been given excellent service both times. When in need of a lock and headlight, I was guided towards the best value, not the most expensive items. Quick, excellent service, cheap prices, and good people. Please note I only used this shop for repairs and accessories. I have no idea about their actual bike prices, but I know their selection for bikes is small since its a small shop.
A craft brewery of bike shops. A corner coffee house kind of bike shop.Yes, it is tiny, but it is solid. Kathleen is always great, and her employees, too. This is a steel bike shop, a brooks, bike shop, a fenders over larger tires to get you and your stuff where you need to go bike shop.=)
Literally the best shop and friendliest staff in Seattle! Love everything about this place!
Fair Price, good service, and they are always up front on costs and delivery times. If something is out of your budget, they will make suggestions. Whether in the market for a 1500 dollar bike or a two hundred dollar one, they have decent choices. Kathleen will go out of her way to help her customers, who tend to be commuters and tourists are not tolerated.
Great customer service, great bikes. Tons of knowledge. Fixed a small problem on my bike with no cost. Will come back here to buy a new bike soon.
Excellent service, they really work hard to find the best ride for you.
Knowledgeable staff, reasonable prices. Im almost glad I blew out my tire in order to discover them.
I got a tune up. They did a great job and even went the extra mile on some areas. They were happy to answer all of my questions, too!
Friendly, competent people, good products, fair prices. Sensible bike parts for sensible riders.
I went in today to buy a part that I didnt need and they just showed me how to fix the problem. Great customer service, I highly recommend and will be back!!!!!
Staff was very nice and helpful, fixed my bike right away. Great experience here, I would highly recommend.
Purchased a bike here recently, and the staff was super helpful in getting it dialed in for me. Ill be back for tune ups and all the accouterments that commuting requires. Thanks!
Such helpful folks! Genuinely interested in helping you find a bike thats right for you and they know everything touring related!
I bought a $4,000 bike at this shop. It was delivered to me with the shifters loose, the brake levers not swapped as I had requested, the fender loose, the wrong front derailleur so that I could not shift down to the small ring easily, and the headlight pointing up so as to blind oncoming cyclists, drivers, and occupants of 2nd story apartments. The fender clearance was really tight, and the front fender was very low. I was advised not to ride over any sticks. Thats right, a $4k bike that I cannot safely ride over a stick.I returned the next day and the shop fixed the front fender, changed out the front derailleur and swapped the brake cables. But the bike was not safe. I rode off a 3 curb that evening and the front fender scraped. My friends at another shop were horrified and remounted it the next day. But they advised me that the fender clearance was not safe and I needed smaller tires. At this point, I get a snippy message from the shop owner because I have posted online that I hate the fenders. I did not identify the shop in that post (or any other). I obviously had no reason to trust them, but I decided to give them a chance, because they said they wanted me to love my bike. I did not accept the offer to replace the fenders because I am genuinely afraid to ride a bike they have worked on. But I did accept the offer to replace the tires. The next email I got informed me that they had ordered 42mm tires to replace the 41s that were too big. Again, not really a move that inspired confidence. I suggested that 38s might be more appropriate. On the way to work the day the tires were to be replaced, the fender started rattling horribly. I stopped and removed it. Four thousand dollars, four weeks and a bike I am afraid to ride. I was actually shaking the entire ride. And the owner informs me that I have handled THEIR mistakes incorrectly. Im not supposed to say anything online. It will take a bit more work to make this bike safe, but I would rather pay another shop to do the work correctly than deal with Free Range.
Shauna and Nikki are the best, theyre the beautiful that makes Fremont and Seattle
Fast, competent repairs; great location; friendly and knowledgeable staff. Whats not to love?
Friendly staff, willing to laugh with me at my CL-purchasing disasters but also work with me to get them running. I trust their input, and find them on my short list of trustworthy shops in the area.
I live on the other side of the water, so getting there takes a little more time. I refer riders to kathleen, particularly women riders, because she listens carefully. She does not push or sell up. She is a craftsman (craftswoman?) at fitting bikes to people. I have not seen her sell a racing style bike to anyone but I visit infrequently. Bigger stores may have more bikes, but it doesnt mean bigger selection. She fits me in when she can, and sometimes -even knowing it will be an inconvenience, tells me No, sorry. I have others ahead of you and they need their bikes too. et cetera. She is not rude, but she is direct and refuses to be manipulated by anyone. I like that. You are important, so is the other guy. I deal with several LBS and they all have their strengths. Kathleens is making you comfortable on an appropriate bike.
Excellent Staff, very knowledgeable, honest. I have been coming to them for over 15 years.
I took my bike in for a tune up, and was treated very rudely. The contempt I received was completely uncalled for. I know my bike is in tough shape, thats why I brought it in, its not a kitten or a baby.
Very small shop although very helpful and competent. Inventory of new components not as large as some places but what items they do have Ive not been able to find elsewhere in Seattle.
Been using them for 15 years.
