This mall is very eerie and ridiculously empty. Its a great location to film a low-budget zombie/dystopian future film. The Costco is normal, but its essentially the only business thats healthy in the mall.
Sarasota Square Mall, will forever be a fantastic and memorable place to me, for as long as Im alive. So many great memories.
It’s so sad what’s happened to this mall. I had so many memories here, but it’s just depressing walking around and reminiscing about how active the mall used to be, and just seeing closed store after closed store. We all knew it was coming once UTC opened, but it’s really saddening walking through the empty halls of this once super-fun filled mall. Basically the only reason the doors still open every day is for AMC and Costco. It’s only a matter of time before it’s closed for good, which sucks.I remember the train ride they used to have, with a full carousel at one point too. Seeing hundreds of people laughing and having a good time a few years back, and then now seeing this ghost town, saddens me.RIP this mall.
I walked into what I thought was a mall and I felt like I was walking into something left behind after an apocalypse. We came here from out of town because there were signs on the interstate leading me here. We got inside and there were elderly people walking laps inside. Where did I stumble into?
This mall has very little to offer, Im going to be very honest and say Im not sure why it even stays open. The only thing that we went for was Costco & Bath & Body Works. There was not mush else in there. I give it 2 stars for having some shopping but it should just close considering it is slowly becoming dilapidated.
Wow. That was sad.Visited the mall a little early before our movie at the AMC IMAX theater - the only IMAX in the area. Last time wed been there was 2 years ago this time to watch another IMAX movie before the pandemic. It was rough then, its deplorable now. The AC wasnt on from the entrance to near the theater, the roof was in pieces from the inside, many tiles were missing up there, and countless stains on the ones that remained. We visited earlier to grab a bite to eat at the food court. Is at least what we -wanted- to do. There was one single food restaurant and one dessert front. The majority of the court was roped off. This is where we noticed how awful the roof was. The sight of the roof and lack of AC had us just head straight to the theater.Nothing about what we saw before the movie made us care to walk around the mall to potentially find a store to walk through or shop through. From what we could see, it was a wasteland - only saw a couple open stores, the majority others were shuttered.Im sure the pandemic and increase of online shopping over the years has taken its toll, but this was such a sad sight. Hopefully the theater and Costco can become their own buildings once this mall is eventually torn down. Would love a park in the style of Payne park to occupy the current mall space.
Absolutely no stores and what stores were there the employees were gabbing the whole time and not actually working awful awful awful time will never come here again
Awwwwww, poor Mally, hes dying. I thought Costco would be the saviour of this place, but the stores are dwindling by the minute. Three went in the last few weeks, more close behind. I still like it and walk around it when going to Coscto. J.C Penneys are still there and theyre great. Its a shame, but its still a good place for indoor walking, if nothing else.
Deserted mall with Costco and amc open. The security guard is rude to push people out. I don’t understand why they just don’t close this out. Wasting electricity and resources to have it 10% occupy.
When I went to leave this review I was expecting this mall to have maybe a two or three star rating. I was surprised to see that it currently has 4 stars. Maybe in recent years past this was a bustling mall? I wouldnt know I just recently moved to Sarasota, but in its current state this is a sad mall. The vast majority of storefronts are shuttered and empty. Maybe a third of the mall has open shops? Food court has only 2 options. Its a shame too because the mall itself is clean. Nice floors, walls are in good shape. Nothing about the mall looks dilapidated, and its large in size. If all the stores were open it would be worth coming here.As it stands I can only see Sarasota locals stopping by every once in awhile if theres a store in here that they like. if youre from out of town theres no way you are going to waste your time here when you have the UTC Mall also in Sarasota that has everything.
This mall has died over the years because of UTC Mall opening and many stores are inside that mall. As I’m typing this, Spencer’s and Claire’s have permanently closed with stores like Journeys and Hot Topic remaining open.
Really good place to go and check your car. They will only recommend what yours car really needs
Had our COVID-19 vaccine here through the Department of Public Health (by appointment only! ). Well done, well staffed, everyone friendly. Very good job!
I love this mall.Great food court. The architecture is very nice throughout.Clean bathrooms. No riff raff in sight and its a very peaceful place. I hope it doesnt close.I appreciate it
Although a lot of stores have left the mall theres still some solid places there torrid, bath and body works, journeys, jcpenney, lids locker room, amc, Costco, lens crafters, mens warehouse, ocean bottom, rack room shoes, sunglasses hut, massage envy, diva nails, an maybe a few others but I cant remember!!
Not much left to shop at. Those that are left are always clean and neat. Practicing safe Covid-19 measures and friendly.
AMC is the main attraction
Great Santa picture booth set up !!! My kids had fun taking pictures with Santa and telling him what they wanted for Christmas !! He was super friendly and the photographer really made my kids feel comfortable . And the pictures came out so clear and centered . Thanks sarasota square. Right after The movies and food court offered my family a great place to eat and watch a movie . Will be visiting more often
So sad to see what has happened to this place.
Thought the imax theater was going to be lil more nicer than the digital theaters but no not the movie and screen was awesome though
Dead man walking. To think this was a vibrant city. What has the government done?We could make our own goods let us. Corporations stop over charging. Let people live.
The vaccine place was fast, excellent organized and the people that work, polite, nice, making the experience a good one. Thank you
Great experience at the Santa’s picture display today. I recommend this mall for Santa pictures over UTC.this location has Friendly staff, GREAT HOLIDAY pictures and pricing !! The pictures came out so clear. And printed right in front of you.the Santa they had looks soooo real that my kids thought it was really him. Then we had lunch in the food court and cause a movie at the theater located right by the food court
I love the Costco store at this mall, which is pretty much the only reason to go there. Costco was the first retailer to make everyone wear a mask and host early senior hours. Their stock of paper and cleaning products has been more consistent than any other retailer and they are excellent at managing the checkout lines.
I got my covid vax.Sad to see all those closed stores.
I visited the Costco there. It was weird going into a mall entrance to get into Costco. Having just moved from Oregon we are happy to see the staff were just was friendly and helpful. I personally dont care for the way it is laid out. It is quite different then several we have been to. They also didnt carry some of usual stables.(That could simply be an east/west coast thing) The best feature they have, that our local ones didnt, was huge coffee bean grinders, for those 2# bags of whole beans.
Now that Macys is closing (and sears cant be far behind), there arent a lot of reasons to come here, except for Costco.Thats a shame, because this is the only mall in the area, and other than the lack of anchor tenants, its a nice place to shop.I have to think that Westfield has a master plan for this mall.
Went to get my second covid shot. It is so sad about this mall!!
This mall and the area are stuck in the 1970s. It looks like they have never updated and improved the exterior and interior.
Its a corpse of a mall, but the theater is the best in Sarasota and its got some cool shops. It deserves more love and isnt nearly as congested or obnoxious as other local malls of the area.
This mall closing end of the year 2019, I believe ( date) great deals, not a lot of stores open.. but the ones that are have beautiful dresses, closes, blk tie suit half the price if u rented one... I suggest you go before the mall closes... my favorite place, the Westfield mall on RT. 41 & Beneva Road..... Sad to see it go...
Empty mall
Depends on what you are going to mall for, weather youll like this one or not. The kid play zone is really sub par ;however my 2 year old does have fun playing there. The movie theater is nice and the few stores are nice. It is never crowded so you can always find a parking spot
Hardly any stores left, but Torrid, Journeys, and Bath and Bodyworks are still there.
Costco is great, but the rest of the mall is lacking..
Good morning I like this place so just went shopping to JCPenney thats all I shot that day while my daughter win a journey my cousin thats a good place to shop blessings
Great walk around the park and dog friendly! After the walk stopped at oLearys for a beer, delicious mahi Ruben and some tropic rock music!
Nice mall connected to Costco, nice area it will be nice to go shopping there once again
Its pretty dead in there, lots of closed stores and not many shoppers. Its too bad, I love the location and the building looks to be in great shape. Mostly we go there for movies or Costco but occasionally stroll through to see what else is going on.
When were visiting Sarasota, Florida we like going to the local shopping centers to get food and any items we didnt pack. This location has a bunch of different shops. Its right off of Interstate 75.If you need anything then you should consider this shopping center.
It way pretty cool. We came here to go to Hot Topic and Spencers. Both of these stores were open and having a percent off sale. Other than that the mall was basically dead. So 1 star for being open, 1 star for spencers and 1 star for hot topic. My bf and i left the mall looking like this :D.
Nothing here anymore, just costco
Sadly, this mall is mostly vacant...
Love this mail, but they need to bring in more restaurants.
I like the mall but not a lot of activity going on. They have recently put a game room in the mall to attract more people. It is located next to the movie theater. Its alot of fun for the family. Lot of games. I recommend it.
I found a deal on Groupon for this place. Two tickets, 30 minutes each, for $13. The normal price for one ticket is $11. The lady was super cool and made good suggestions about glasses and hats so nothing would be damaged. The games were fun and there were plenty of options for different kids. Will definitely be going back.
I am giving it a 5 star review based on what it used to be. It is sad to see only about 14 different places open in the whole place. I really hope they are going to do something soon for it. I watch dead mall videos on youtube and I happened to find one on this mall, which used to be my favorite. All the malls are becoming a thing of the past, especially this one since everyone wants to go to University Mall.
My family loves this mall. There is room for improvement. It lacks luster and thrill..to be honest it is the place we go when we are NOT in the mood for crowds. I hear they are wanting to add condos...dont! There is enough housing in this area but very little for younger crowds. We are a young family and will be in the area for many years..add stores not housing.
Ive always enjoyed this mall. I wish there were more stores
Good doesnt have alot of things
I sat in the car with the kids while my granddaughter ran in a store. The parking lot was nice and clean.
Another short lived mall. I guess when online retail causes all the traditional retail stores to close up shop... They will then be able to charge us whatever they want for merchandise. Sure glad that I have all I will ever need. Come on old school retail show us some great prices and excellent customer service to keep those doors open.
We scored lots of great back to school clothes at Old Navy this trip. The store was well stocked with pre-teen sizes at great prices. There are still some great stores here that keeps this mall on our list as one of our regular shopping stops.
Practically dead at this point since owner’s cannot and will not lower rent, but continue to add games inside thinking it’ll help increase traffic in the mall... it would be great if there was a nice mall in Sarasota instead of having to go to Tampa.
Costco is located in the mall. Excellent prices and selection. Staff was courteous and efficient.
This mall is dying, and it is beyond recesitation. It is mostly vacant. There is only one corridor near the movies. At Christmas there were only about 8 kiosks in the hallway. 20 years ago there were probably more than 50 and the place was alive. Now its dead and smells like mildew. The only place with any sign of life is the movies and Costco. The rest of the place is dying and depressing.
Store by store, the mall gets smaller as the stores close down or transfer to another place, but its a nice place. The stores that are left are worth visiting and purchasing items from. The security there cannot do much when shoplifters are in the picture, but people just need to be attentive and responsive. I always keep hearing how grand it used to be to people whove visited for decades. Its saddening to see store by store disappear, but times change, of course. Whatever comes from it in the upcoming years will hopefully revive the mall, and the area surrounding it.
The mall was nicely redone but cannot keep any businesses going there. A bit of a ghost mall with two of the four restaurants closed and the Luckys gourmet market now shut as well. A small Macys and a Cinebistro are the only ones drawing any business to the mall.
This USED to be the premium shopping mail in Sarasota till worst developer ever to hit Sarasota, as an Urban planner Im shocked at the county commissioners have allowed such exodus of great stores to move on the Manatee county border at UTC a huge super structure which mom/pop businesses cant survive in. Almost every M/P established businesses have now failed after relocating to the vast endless void of space that only young athletic runners can overcome the distances of concrete walkways. The Sarasota Westfield Mail is partly now Costco & JCPenney its ruined the once great & mighty SM is just a shell. I can never forgive these people. Yet others argue its the internet which is a rotten excuse. In Europe Asia& even South America mails operate better than ever why? I can answer this but you need to think on your own
Family friendly mall with many stores for everyone needs. Bathrooms that accommodate families. A nursing station for mothers which is wonderful. Clean movie theaters. A food court that suits anyone palet. Has a Costco attached to the store which is very convenient. Highly recommend this mall.
My oh my has this mall changed. With the opening of the UTC mall, this one has definitely taking a big hit. Half of the mall is empty. However, this is not always a bad thing. Some days I just rather not deal with the traffic & crowds that are all around the UTC area. So this mall allows me to come to a place with less crowds, easy parking, & stress free shopping. Good ideal to make sure the stores you are looking for are located inside this mall still. But the stores left there all have great deals, & large selections to choose from. Also still has the movie theater inside right next to the food court. So if you are looking for a quite mall with not many crowds this is a great place.
Want too bad even though a lot of stores closed
Alot of store and food options
Used to be really awesome but I feel like the mall is dying. Thats not by any means a reason not to go, honestly more of a reason TO go. It seems like malls everywhere are dying but this place still has some of my favorite stores that are pretty hard to find around the general area. Overall thumbs up
We went here solely for the Costco. We love that there is always a Costco nearby whenever we travel. We were able to get fresh local seafood at a fraction of the cost of the fish markets on the island. We had forgotten our ID cards and were pleased when we found out that the service desk was gracious enough to print temporary ones for us.
Slow death of a once vibrant shopping mall. Good place to fitness walk, shop at Costco, ..and there is a first run movie theatre. Well lit inside, cool, comfortable, felt safe...just sad to see so many storefronts shuttered.
We shopped at JC Penneys. It is a nice store, but the nice mall that in is failing. Only a few stores remain open, and the hall echoes as consumers pass through. So sad to see, because it is a nice looking place.
Who ever owns this mall had better jump on it quick before they lose every store. Each time I come in another store is gone.I live by the mall and frequent the mall and each time I come more more stores are gone. All that’s going to be left is Costco and the movie theater and you can’t support them all with two stores. Came in today to go to Costco and now I see prime serious is gone. What are you waiting for? Why are you not doing something to revive this mall?
Sad. Lots of stores gone. It seems that this huge mall will disappear sooner than later. Hopefully someone revitalizes it. But these days it seems like people only like malls with easy accesses, close to a highway exit etc.
Great place to shop! Many nice stores to shop at. Hope many more open back up though.
Probably, the worst shopping mall Ive ever visited. Its completely empty for the most part, besides middle school and high school students passing time. The stores are desolate and filled with nonsense merchandise. Because this place is so empty, I felt comfortable leaving my bag in the lounge under the supervision of a young lady who agreed to watch it for 15 minutes while I ran to the restroom (there are only 2 in the entire building) When I returned, I was informed that a bored, and overzealous mall cop had taken it. I immediately went to the unattended security office, where I spent the next 20 minutes arguing with the guard, who felt it necessary to lecture and question me about safety and security. It was 7:30PM and he insisted, that I return in the morning for the bag. I explained that the bag held my keys and cell phone to which he said You put it there! So nothing I can do! I was about to call the actual police and have this guy give me back my belonging. but within 10 minutes, I tracked down another security guard who was happy to grab my bag from the office. Later, I found out the initial uncooperative guard was the captain. If the Captain likes wasting valuable peoples time and screaming at them because of a bag left sitting for 15 minutes, they need a new one. Anyway, this experience really killed the entire vibe of this mall for me.
Nice, upscale mall. But be prepared to pay a premium on everything you buy. Example: Olive oil at one of the stores for a 4 oz bottle was 36.00.Bring your large credit limit card. Youll need it. Other than that, nice to take in the sights. Thats free. At least for now.
Nice atmosphere. Clean. Ice cold filtered water fountains. Place is quiet compared to how it used to be. Black Friday 2019 looked like a regular slow monday back 10 years ago.Stop buying off Amazon and start supporting local malls! You will fondly miss having them when they are a thing of the past in another 10 years.
I remember when this mall was bustling with customers. It is sad to see the empty stores. Busiest store now is Costco.
Astounded this place is still open. Same could be said about any old style mall. Other than the movie theater & Costco what is still there? What is the draw? I remember buying CDs there in the 90s & buying tools and appliances from Sears - now closed - but other than that.....
Everyone loves Costco!
Nice cozy small/medium size mall. It doesn’t have all your big name stores like the UTC Mall has off of Exit 213, but has some smaller stores. I love the movie theater and the food court they have.
The mall is beautiful. Movie theater is really nice. The food court has a variety of options and is very clean. They seem to be having a lot of stores closing right now and Im not sure why. The mall is very well maintained and there are always people there.
This poor mall is a gost town. I used to love coming here with my kids to shop and eat when the weather wasnt good. Now so many stores are closed down and there are only two food stores in the food court.
Why is Sarasota Square under Westfield mall in Google maps?? No one will ever get there unless you clarify both malls separately on google maps! I called Westfield and got info for Westfield. But google maps thinks its all 1 mall! So I ended up in the Sarasota Square Mall a completely different mall! Only a few stores open. The owner of both malls needs to encourage new stores to come aboard and add the furniture bacK to both malls. The Sarasota Square mall needs a lot of maintenance in the cafeteria area leaky roof issues and only 1 restaurant open. Theres no decor or seating through out the malls. The ladys restroom has a leaking toilet and several faucets do not work. No paper towels w this virus going on?! The maintenance guys were hanging close to the ladys restroom when I was useing the restroom. They need to give the ladys there privacy!!
A fun and quiet little mall, usually. Not a fan personally of how many unique stores are getting replaced with generic clothing stores, but nonetheless an enjoyable experience. The Movie theater is always a plus, too, and the food court has a nice variety of options to choose from
Got second covid-19 shot. Yea!!!
Unfortunately this is another brick and mortar mall that has lost some of their anchor stores. Costco and Costco fuel are here and the movie theater seems to be successful. Hopefully, a great use of this building can be found. There are two other thriving malls in town. Its sad, but history is rewriting the use of buildings like this. Time will tell.
Needs to fight and come back as a strong mall. Hate seeing it empty.
Nice mall with a very nice movie theater. Food court could use more selection & of course it would be even better if they brought back a GameStop.
Beautiful mall. Too bad so many stores left for UTC. Hope it doesnt close down. Perfect mall for those of us who live in the Venice/ Nokomis/ South Sarasota areas and dont want to make that drive to University and support a mega-mall.
This is a really nice mall; however, its falling to the same fate seen in many areas--stores closing since online shopping is easy from the couch. However, it is a really nice walking space.
The only people there were walkers enjoying the air conditioning. We went to see what shops were left. Very sad.
Shop for our favorite Costco meats, cheeses, produce and dry and canned goods. Perfect.
What a great ball this is. However its turning into a ghost Mall not many Shoppers anymore. But its great for walkers on a stormy day. Great atmosphere Great Mall
