I can’t stress enough how much I dislike this store. I dread every time I have to come here. It’s never an easy experience and it’s never pleasant. Just look at the filthiness of the parking lot and the store entrance here. Just trying to enter the store is sometimes a challenge as it’s small, crowded and dirty. Inside the store is outdated and depressing looking compared to other Safeway’s in California. Then there is the constant long slow frustrating lines at check out. The staff appears overworked and exhausted. The self-checkout barely has staffing on top of half of the self-checkout stands in the store being closed. Yesterday I stood waiting for help because the machine decided I couldn’t pay for whatever reason. So I sat there and waited as the single staff person ran from customer to customer overwhelmed by the workload. For years I’ve tried to like this place and hope for it to get better and for years this place has been an eyesore for the neighborhood. There appears no fixing this mess. There is no wonder people in the area are hoping for another grocer to move into the area.Photos added…this place keeps getting wilder. Don’t waste your time pressing the “Need help” button, because no one is coming to help you.

Safeway on Market is a very nice store very clean well arranged with plenty of stock. My favorite part of the store is the deli. Most of their cooked foods are excellent, epecially the fried chicken strips. The sandwiches are really good and a little cheaper than most sandwich shops. I also like the salads in the deli case. Fruits and vegetables are very Fresh And mostly in season for California. A little bit higher than some of the Mexican markets in the mission.

The store seems pretty clean and well-lit. All the tactically outfitted guards are a bit unnerving. Shoplifting is clearly an issue here. The pharmacy staff were pleasant and helpful. Im not sure Id regularly shop here.Edit: Today, a different pharmacy tech was rude and seemed bothered by my very presence. Ive never had this much difficulty with prescriptions. At this point, Im pretty sure Im transferring all my prescriptions elsewhere.

This place had been my saving grace many times. Love the location

It’s a long standing moment in SF. This Safeway when I was in university back in the 90’s always got hit on for a date. They have good security inside. However the adventure happens by the sidewalk. All kinds of characters.

This is a good place to get stuff just too busy. Some of the staff need to learn how to not judge a book by its cover. I may not dress like a upscale person so they watched me like a hawk but at the end when I paid for my stuff with nothing but cash they felt stupid for the looks they were giving me.

Nice place to shop and friendly staff. Prices seemed ok but wish grocery carts could be taken outside. Near multiple Muni Metro lines though, which is convenient for transit riders.

Used to be a 24 hour store, now theyre changing their hours ughhh 6am-9pm.The security work really hard to keep it safe there. Cashiers and workers work hard as well.Its EXTREMELY busy on Mondays after 4pm. Lines are always down the aisle, maybe more cashier on this day?

They are located in a tough area. You just need to get used to walk up to an aisle that is fully closed under security glass doors and press a button so someone can get the door opened and give you the item. I prefer that theyre managing to deal with issues remaining open. Otherwise they will be forced to close. Bathrooms had a lock so if you are a customer and plan on going to the restroom, ask the cashier for the code (even with the lock they had some damage in their facilities, but I appreciate theyre still managing to be there)

Good products - and I enjoy shopping there, especially now that they are seemingly reducing theyre overhead intercom announcements between employees. These are highly unnerving since between each announcement made, there is a high pitched sound. The music that plays in the background was always totally overshadowed with all the disturbing announcement activity. As said, its now getting better, and thank you for that.

Crowded as always, cant seem to go in that store without spending way to much money on stuff I shouldnt be eating. I recommend the Breyers Vanilla Fudge Twirl Ice Cream......

I visited this Safeway hoping to be able to get enough food to last throughout the night. I only had $8.00 to my name but one of the cashiers named Clyde paid for my groceries which were a total of $21.10. This was probably the kindest act that a Safeway or any other store employee has ever done for me and I am extremely grateful for his act of generosity. Thank you Clyde. Youre an absolute Godsend.

This store never has enough registers open. You wait in line for a long time. They try to get you to go to self checkout but you cant if you buy alcohol. They changed several of the isles to behind a door thats locked and you need to press a button to have someone come help you. Im okay with that if someone actually came when you needed assistance. Many times no one ever came and I just gave up. Im glad they have security here I have seen at least two fights break out in the store.

Gotta say, aisles were very clean, well stocked, and 10%off shopping if you get covid or flu shot.

Love this store I bought some lottery scratchers and won on almost all of them. They had the eggnog that I love and I was able to get in and out in record time.

Easy to locate items. Friendly. Courteous checkout. Do it yourself checkout was a breeze. The checkout was even noticed helping the more senior people with their items. Safeway is always going the extra mile. Keep it up folks.

If you are need of a haircut, then I highly recommend this place. All of the barbers are great, however my personal favorite is Tuan. He remembers his customers and goes out of his to make sure everyone leaves with a cut they like.

The store was clean and well stocked. The only downfall was I was running late and everything I needed was in a locked case.

This store is old and dated, was dirty and I couldnt shop in it. The produce refrigeration was old and the brown water was on the bottom of the organic romaine lettuce plastic bagging. The courtesy electric carts were chained up and you had to give the customer service rep your ID to hold while you are shopping, she claimed that all Safeways have this policy. I just found this store on Market undesirable. Management needs to clean this dirty store. It needs a good power wash on the outside.

Good deli, adequate bakery, great produce. A meat & potatoes, must have type grocery. Good selection and they appear to have solved having all their shopping carts stolen.

Its like many other Safeways that Im grateful that they provide a restroom for customers. Although its a fairly clean store, I cant ignore the issue with the homeless who seem to be taking baths in the restroom and a few hanging out outside. Thankfully they have a good amount security that make the shoppers feel safer. Parking is pretty good though out the day as well.

I do like this Safeway most of all. Friendly helpful staff.

The Castro Safeway. Great store. Legendary. Too bad all the personal hygiene items are locked in a cabinet. I saw these 2 dudes pull a beer run the other night, taking a 12 pack of Corona. Hope they come back and spend some money.

Fine staff, just understaffed and clearly very stressed. People in handcuffs or shoplifting a common sight. Go somewhere else until Safeway can properly staff and provide security for this store.

This store is great,the problems are all related to customers stealing and causing scenes. The homeless population hanging around looking for a chance and opportunity to come up.

Zero shopping carts. It appears they have all been removed including the cart racks that were outside the front of the store. How the hell are you supposed to purchase things like bottled water, canned sodas, beer, seltzers, or wine in the same visit?? I tried the Potrero St. and Mission st. stores too. Zero. Places like Whole Foods and Grocery Outlet have plenty of carts. Now, they have my business as well.

My girlfriend just got her 1st Covid vaccine dose. She doesnt even have insurance. Quick & painless. We were early so we went shopping & while she had to wait after, (in case of reaction) I went shopping. Safeway was the perfect place. Our time was well spent. Who doesnt need groceries!?!

Terrible sandwhiches, they had an old lady that took 20 minutes to make a sandwich during lunch and young kid that did not know how to make a turkey wrap, kept asking me what goes in it, when i ask him dont you know he said never maid a wrap, he end up folding and was the worst. First time and last time, safeway standards are low at this location.

This Safeway is probably the most convenient out of all locations in SF. Right on Market street with plenty of parking Im surprised it doesnt get even busier than it already does. The store is clean but can get cluttered by the end of the night. The staff are busy here, especially in the middle of the pandemic, yet they still uphold a good sense of customer service. Great store, and a staple in the neighborhood.

Homeless people stealing or making a mess all the time. You will be followed by security. Usually long lines because they fon’t care. Random parking tickets even when you are perfectly right, the toilet is the worst place to be in the world.

Inside of store has good products and services. Outside, it looks like whoever their maintenance company is, Quit. Trash all over the lot for several days.

Feel like a fake problem was created by the self checkout system, possibly someone watching from the cameras, but either way, even if Im wrong, I waited for about 5-7 min AFTER my order was complete (scanned EVERY item and began payment in CASH) to be assisted by an, I must admit, extremely friendly cashier to bypass the block on the processing of my payment. A horrible time ALMOST saved by friendly customer service, not quite though!😏

Disgusting restrooms. The department of public health should shut it down until management cleans up its act. Also, lots of homeless and mentally ill hanging out in the parking lot. Recommended to shop elsewhere

I had the pleasure of receiving my second Moderna shot yesterday in their clinic. Even though Im sore today Im grateful for the professional services they provide.

Nice location. Great selection. Bathrooms smell like sour butt and are poorly maintained but plenty of Self-Checkouts

They are cool to people even when people are acting uncool and provide one of the only public bathrooms public.

There are so many homeless in the parking lot, plus they police the lot for non-customers who try to steal a spot so they can tow. Constant security presence doesnt make it inviting, but no good alternative for cost or selection in urban center.

I find good products and good prices

It was great no long lines friendly staff and everything I needed.

Overpriced for such a small store. .... Despite whàt it seems its averaged Safeway quality products with just a slight at least quarter (25¢) price gouge on every product... Im not stating that for a fact but they are definitely taking advantage of the downtown/stadium crown.

This place opened late night for anyone who can’t sleep earlier sunset. Safe and cleared out of annoying peoples on the street and try to take your money from the change.

Was looking for a bottle of red wine for Valentines gift Huge selection to choose from. Great price selection. Ended up purchasing three bottles. Wasnt to busy and the cashier was quite friendly and pleasant. Refreshing.

Best Safeway I have ever been to hands down

Ive been going to this Safeway for 20+years, and I must say that theyve gotten better then they were.. lot more selection than they use to have, but prices are at my price range, so I go way less often now..

Jeaneah who was running the Self Checkout this afternoon/evening did a fantastic job. Not only was she managing all of the customers requests and needs (no easy feat during rush hour), when i left my cash (from Cash Back) she answered a call promptly and had already set my cash aside safely with a note. When I returned to pick up the cash she was again working hard and smartly managing the self check out. I cant say how much I appreciate Jeaneah!

Well this place is cool because it has everything that you cant find in a mom and pop liquor store. If you are broke ...then try the hot breakfast sandwich at the sandwich bar.

Its a great place to shop. I found the vegetables fresh and service was as it should with a busines thats serving the community.

Still, the worst shopping experience in SanFrancisco! Still using clerks as Loss Prevention. Still has many more people following shoppers ( at least following Me) and only 1 or 2 Cashiers at the registers! The Meat Prices are Insane! If Im going to pay $30 for a Steak, it should be cooked along with some veggies and potatoes and brought to my table by a Waitress!

Safeway @ Church & Market Streets is quite conveniently located. As they say in real estate: Location, Location, Location!

Safeway is pretty much the same in every store, give or take a few items, at the start of summer, their strawberries were awesome but lately, they dont appear to be fresh, theres always some nasty mushy no good ones in the big 2 pound container and believe me, Ive purchased throughout summer but yesterday, I had to throw out 3/4 of the container because of them being half rotten the other half bruised enough to qualify for jam but nasty jam, lol but again, they buy massive amounts of just about everything so maybe I just had some bad strawberry karma ... lol I still shop there!

This location has been a convenient one stop shop for my Starbucks cup of coffee, grocery, and lunch needs. Their security team is also super legit and Im thankful that they do their job to keep both the staff and shoppers safe from danger and harm during this tough time. Ive hadnt had any unpleasant experience when I shop here. Its my favorite Safeways on Market St. Thank you for staying open, working, and being essential!!!!

Safeway is a big corporate supermarket thats what you should expect.

This is a smaller Safeway located on 2020 Mission St. In SF. The best Safeway is in the Potrero Plaza on 16th street. This still has many good products. I like the produce department Their deli does a good job. Parking is crowded & they have EV charging units installed. I like that U have access from both Mission St., San Jose Ave. & an enter only access from 29th st. They had a problem with snatch and grab so many items are locked. If U bike have a good lock.

Safeway has no waiting, no lines. There customer service is always good

Excellent when it comes to neighborhood grocery stores.

This supermarket was clean, friendly service, and had fresh products. All the prices were reasonable. This place was worth visiting. They also had a great selection of fresh vegetables and liquors here.

My experience was great but I got to steal and eat Packos Rich cheddar cheese crackers and an entire brick of Puchau Korean candies a couple monster Energies kind of ice cream and a jar Biscoff cookie butter

Be careful when you shop at this one particular Safeway and you plan on arriving on a bicycle. Security does not stop vagrants from stripping bike parts while youre in doing your shopping.

The famous Safeway on Market Street. Convenient location and we can always find parking. Although there are security guards, I do not recommend shopping late at night or super early in the morning. Additionally, dont park in the lot if youre not shopping at the store. You will be ticketed and/or towed. Otherwise, a perfectly fine Safeway.

I always love coming to this place, like any Safeway prices are a little higher, but there are is a quality thats usually a bit above its competitor Foodco 💯 i recommend to anyone in the area.

Good luck finding a cart. This Safeway while it has friendly staff and a central location, its also prime for rampant theft and ridiculous incidents. Also all the carts have been stolen.
