My heater hose busted as soon as I came in to San Francisco for work luckily for me I was literally three blocks away from San Francisco auto repair Center, Gary, Was able to find the specialty part for my vehicle and have it repaired within three hours this is the only shop I will ever go to in San Francisco because they deliver quality service affordable prices and they are speeding and they do not cut corners on quality. Thank You Gary (owner) & Ken (mechanic)
Ive been coming to Gary and the San Francisco Auto Repair Center for over 10 years, and have always been pleased with their work, customer service, and trustworthiness. I particularly appreciate the careful explanation I get upon picking up my car, so that I have a clear understanding of the work that was done and any follow-up or things for which to watch down the road.An experience that stands out was following a mandatory airbag replacement I had done on my Honda, work covered under warranty at the dealership. When my airbag warning light came on a couple weeks after the replacement, I figured it was related, and took the car back to the dealership. They diagnosed the problem as a faulty sensor, unrelated to the previous work, and gave an estimate of $350+ to fix it. I called up Gary and explained, saying if SF Auto could do this kind of work, Id much rather pay them than the dealer. Gary said to bring the car in, that sometimes the sensors just need to be reset (something like rebooting your computer); we could try this to see if it worked. Indeed the rebooting worked and Gary saved me over $350!What stands out is not just that Gary had the knowledge and experience to know that perhaps a reset was all that was needed, it was also the care he took to solve the problem at minimum expense to me, even when he made less on the work. It is this sort of attention and ethical customer-centered approach that keeps me coming back; I know Gary and the team will always do the right thing for me, regardless, and that this approach is ultimately best for business, as it cements customer loyalty. I don’t believe the dealer was necessarily unethical (after all the warning light was on), but they did not exhibit the same concern for me and ultimately their business, that Gary did. Thanks, Gary!
I would not recommend this shop.Brakes were working perfectly but the warning buzzer on my Lexus was sounding. So I had to get a (very high priced) diagnostic. I was told that there was a short and that I needed a Master cylinder. Got one installed (well over $1000). A year later, the buzzer sounded again. I was now told that the battery was weak and that I needed a new battery. However, after installation the buzzer continued to sound. I was told now that I needed ANOTHER master cylinder and that warranty on first had expired. The brakes themselves were still working perfectly. Unable to afford a new master cylinder I asked Gary if he could disconnect buzzer, he said ‘no’. Another shop disconnected buzzer free of charge. I have had no problems in the two years since since.
I have never been to an auto repair shop before so I honestly expected the worst. From what I have heard auto shops are shady at times. San Francisco Auto Repair is anything but that. Gary was very attentive and did EVERYTHING he could to help me out. I really appreciate that he made sure to call me and tell me exactly what was going on along the way. I would definitely bring my vehicle back to Gary at SF auto repair again. No question about that.
This is great auto repair shop, honest, efficient and accurate. They were realistic about what I should expect to pay and what the timing would be. I recommend them and Ill definitely go them for my future automotive needs.
Very disappointing. Embodies car service shadiness. After robbing me of 1 hour of my life they gave me a quote that was 2x his initial range and also 2x two other quotes Ive already gotten.Details: I knew I needed new brakes because the Toyota service told me so after an inspection at my last checkup. Ive been getting quotes for the work, already had 2 other quotes (both right around $300, both took less than 5 minutes to give me the quote) and walked in to SF Auto Repair (this place) to get a third quote for my new brake pads.Gary at the front desk said he needed to do his own inspection to provide me with a quote. I asked him if he could give me a range and he responded $250 (I gave him make model and year - which is normally sufficient). Rough quote sounded good to me, so I came back the following day with the car to do the inspection he insisted on (that I really didn’t want or need). After one hour (again, this compares to 5 minutes at 2 other places) he told me $606. Thats more than 2x what he indicated the previous day, about 2x my other two quotes and after taking 1 hour of my day AND taking all of my contact information (again, other places dont do that).I dont have a problem with businesses having different pricing. There are low cost and higher cost businesses - all have a place. But the practice of holding a car hostage for an hour for something that could be done far far faster, plus giving a low ball indication that isnt even close (despite having all the information beforehand), plus taking all personal contact information is one good example why some car repair shops have a bad reputation. If you want to support an honest and straightforward car repair shop - this isnt one of them!
Great service. My first conversation with Gary, he spent the time thinking about why I might not need the service. Once it was determined that we did need to move forward, service was completed within an hour. They also did a spot check, and I appreciated that at the end of the service he asked if they could be my go-to auto repair spot. The tone and manner was friendly, thoughtful, honest, and direct throughout. I will definitely use them moving forward.
Great communication and flexibility - Michelle and her staff kept me up to date with progress, offered options for a major repair. Ill be happy to bring my vehicles there for maintenance and repair -- great experience!
They charged almost double the amount for checking the checking engine light on my car.190$ to tell me that my car is low on oil. What is wrong with those people? AND they tried overcharging again, telling me that they would do the oil change for an additional 113$. Had I decided to do so with them, Id be seriously overpaying. Its sooo expensive and they said they would charge 100$ more just to check the pressure on the tires, so the total was going to be almost 400$ total. I ended up paying 190$ and still left with nothing done to fix my car. As if things couldnt get any worse. Their customer service was the worst. The people were rude and werent helpful at all. In my experience of going to shops to have my car looked at, I have Never EVER been ripped off like this. You leave this place feeling like garbage. You leave feeling that the people running this car shop took advantage of you. If you dont mind being ripped off and being taken advantage of, then this is the place for you! I WILL NEVER COME BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN.
Honest, completely reliable. Have been having my cars serviced here for 15? 20? years. My car-savvy son checked them out and gave them a thumbs-up. May not be the cheapest but certainly not the costliest, and the peace of mind knowing you can trust them is priceless.
Yes, they do great work all around, 100%. My favorite part is the in-depth analysis of my car that they e-mail me, after the job is done. Super cool.. and VERY helpful moving forward..
Great team! I had a fuel pump failure on a Friday morning, I had it towed directly to SF Auto Repair, they made room for it. I went to work, enjoyed my weekend, and they I had it ready for me Monday at noon.
One thing thats hard to find in a mechanic is honesty. These guys are great. I took my car in because the guys who changed my oil said I had a leaky oil pan gasket. I took it to San Francisco Auto Repair Center, and he took a look at it and told me somebody had just loosened all the bolts. He tightened them up and didnt charge me a thing, saving me a couple hundred dollars. I have been here a couple times and they are real straight shooters.
Fantastic Service, both prompt and professional. Gary always takes his time to explain what they discovered during their investigation and offers you a few options to choose from in resolving your issue. They are reliable in their estimates and fair in their pricing, what more could ask for?
This review is strictly for smog check + certificate. I was quoted $50 but mentioned google and only paid $45. Youre and in and out in less than 10mins. Henry was very helpful. I think Ive been getting ripped off at other places. Smog checks here from now on...
Gary, the owner, is extremely knowledgeable and very straightforward. Doesnt try to upsell you, just gives you all the information and lets you decide what to do. Very thorough with his work and accommodating to schedules too.
Came here for a super basic job: i just needed help attaching the license plate (and bracket) to the front of my girlfriends 2002 VW. even though i just rolled right in, it was a simple job and they treated it as such, taking care of it in under 30 minutes and charging me a nominal fee.
Great staff, took my car here to have my brakes examined after Midas completely screwed them up. They fixed the issue and at the same time were able to diagnose a power steering ghost that I had checked out by two other shops.Quick and knowledgable.
As a woman, it is so refreshing to walk into a car repair place and not be treated like an idiot. Gary and his team listen to your problems and do the best to fix them. They are honest, timely, and very approchable. All Garages should be this accessible.
The Best in the Auto Repair business, money well spent, their the only people for me.
The service was great, fast and friendly. The staff are very knowledgeable and the prices were fair. These are mechanics that I trust!!!
I would highly recommend San Francisco Auto Repair Center to a friend. They were friendly and answered all questions I had regarding my repairs. The wait time was minimal.
Gary always takes care of my truck. Their rates are great and my vehicle feels new every time I get it back. I cant recommend them highly enough.
Gary is extremely professional and knowledgeable, and is supremely cognizant about trying to keep your car repair charges down. SF Auto Repair Center took an open ended problem ( my power steering pump was leaking fluid after a repair at a different shop 6 months ago) and worked extraordinarily hard to diagnose and solve the problem at little expense.1) They hunted down a tiny replacement piece, instead of taking the easy way and replacing the whole pump. This saved me at least a hundred dollars.2) After the repair had been completed, Gary himself handled the warranty call for the previous repair, saving me time, and $220.These guys are busy for a reason: they know what they are doing. If you are looking for an auto repair center in the city of San Francisco, give these guys a shot.
Highly recommend this place! Excellent communication and wonderful service exactly as promised.
Had a great experience here. I definitely plan on returning in the future.
Sf Auto is the place to go. Their work is impeccable, their mechanics top notch and staff is friendly and trustworthy. And its affordable!
Dont come here. I came here thinking I was getting a good deal instead of going to Toyota, it turns out San Francisco Auto Repair Center LIED TO ME. I told them to check the brakes, they did not check the brakes even though they said they did. I ended up taking my car to Toyota and it turns out my brake fluid needed to be changed BADLY. If the San Francisco Auto Repair Center actually checked my brakes they would of told me that my brake fluid needed to be changed. I will never trust this place again.I also told the Owner that the brakes made a little noise which is why I wanted him to check the brakes in the first place, he told me Just because the brakes make noise doesnt mean anything is wrong I mean, Im no genius but Im pretty sure brakes shouldnt make noise at all in the first place!!!!!
SF Auto does a great job. Ive had a variety of things needed on my Honda lately and they took care of them all quickly and effectively, at fair prices. Check them out at their new location, easy walking distance from either 16th or 24th St. BART.
The best auto repair shop in sf hands down.My car was in with trans problems.an they found the problem an took care of my car like it was theirs.thank u.im a happy customer
Absolutely terrible phone etiquette. Person I spoke to was extremely rude and unaccommodating. Maybe the service is good in person but after that conversation I have zero desire to even go.
These people dont know what they are doing.my car has been there for almost a month an my car is not fixed.i just think its alot of games back an forth i have been told every week it will be done next week or give me another week.dont waste time with them
Everyone is very kind and knowledgeable. Im always pleased with the results.
Ive been coming here since the 90s and Ive always left happy.
The mechanic Tim, and Gary left my 2005 Doged Grand Caravan in a good condition, they did the oil transmission changed, the spark plugs. And my van runs, perfect.
We were very pleased with the service, our truck broke down and we called SF Auto Repair, they connected us with a tow company and in just a couple of hours we were back on the road....This place is legit and didnt take advantage.
Ive been relying on the good folks at SF Auto Repair since the previous century and have always found them to be honest and reliable. My Ford Escort is advancing in years, and needs all the TLC it can get.
Thoughtful, appropriate service and attention. Im not saying Im looking forward to to the next thing that goes wrong with my 1999 Civic, but I can rest easy knowing where I can take it!
Charge nearly double for check engine light diagnosis than average ($190 vs $100). I asked if they could just take a quick look, the main guy responded I see that the car is black.
I needed to get a smog inspection. They saw me right away and took care of everything in 20 minutes!
Friendly staff, able to accommodate a same-day oil change despite being clearly swamped.
Fast, reliable friendly as always
The best place ever
Friendly, honest and efficient service
