Everyone I’ve met there is super nice and helpful. Danny took a bike that has been stored for years after moving from Chicago and breathed life back into it. Runs like new. He salvaged as many of the original components as possible while making sure it was road safe. Glad this is my neighborhood bike shop. Thanks Uptown! 🤩🚲

I’m a traveler and love having my bike for any trails in route...sometimes things happen so finding a bike shop in the area with quick turn around time is key. This place was very efficient for that and the mechanic is down to earth about and knowledgeably informative for my concerns. Good for the fix and back to the trails!

Today I was charged $17 to put air in my tires.Downgrading from 3 stars to 1.My back tire was going flat. I figured I had slow leak. I had taken my bike in for a tune up about 6 weeks prior. I thought I had paid for new tires and tubes (never got a summary of tune up work completed so I wasnt sure) so it seemed odd that the tire was flat. I dropped my bike off and said Id be back in an hour.When I come back the repair guy asked me if I had put air in the tires recently.Yeah, I my tire was going flat so I added air at a gas station, but it went flat again.He explains that I should be adding air every week. That gas stations air pumps are designed for cars at 32 psi whereas my bike needs 72 psi.Did you replace the tube? I ask.Yes, to error on the side of caution, he said.Better would have been to call me, ask if adding air was okay, and if I was still having troubles to have me bring it in for a new tube.Its just a series of annoyances and lack of attentiveness with this shop. Uptown Normal Heights is near my home, but Ill go elsewhere from now on.___________________________________INITIAL EXPERIENCE BELOWIm glad my bike is working. The work they did is fine. Customer service could be improved. I called 6 times over 4 days asking if my bike was done. I had planned to buy some helmets and a bike rack. Finally got a call back.When I went to pick up my bike, they didnt give me a summary of what they did.It was a bit of a struggle to get the 2 bikes in back of my Honda Fit. (Great opportunity to sell me a rack?)Its a small thing, but when I got home I noticed the seats were all the way up and I had to track down an Allen wretch to readjust them. The staff seemed to be coasting.

Matt is a master bike mechanic! Had taken my bike to another shop for service and they had not been able to diagnose/correct a significant issue even though theyd had the bike for several days. Matt knew exactly what the issue was and replaced the part while I waited. Bike is good as new. Definitely wil be heading back for my next 1500 mile service.

I was looking for some wide cycling shoes and was able to find them at Uptown when they were out of stock everywhere else. Uptown was cheaper and shipped really fast. I got them across country 3 days after ordering. I highly recommend them.

I ordered through their online shop and unfortunately had a shipping altercation that took a couple weeks to resolve (due to inventory shortages).Throughout the minor ordeal, their communication via customer service was top notch. I couldnt have been handled better. Either in-person or online, these folks set a good example of a stellar bike shop.

Condescending know it all customer service matched with long turnaround and high rates!1st went to the store when it was across the street and felt it was a little pricey and long wait. Thought I would give a 2nd try by getting some work done on a bike as a present and I have had to wait for 2 weeks now. I tried calling but no answer. I left a voicemail inquiring about service and never got a return call. So now I go in thinking maybe they lost my number?Turns out they never started my bike. All they said was thanks for your patience, we will give you a call, which they wont as previously experienced. Went back next day they said oh no sorry come back tonight. So I went back at night and had to take my bike back because nothing was being done. Very terrible experience that lasted over 3 weeks and took me 4 round trips to come back with no service. Honestly doesnt even deserve a star

1/03/2021 *** CLOSED ***Went to the Uptown Bicycles on Adams, Normal Heights in San Diego. Place is gutted. It is closed. Nothing is in the picture. The store was completely cleared.

These guys are friendly and awesome! I just needed my back wheel trued and advice on whether or not it was time to replace the tire. They trued the wheel on the spot, gave me advice on the tire, and didnt charge me a dime! I fully expected that I was going to have to leave the wheel and come back in a day or two, so it was a nice surprise that I didnt have to make a second trip. Because of this experience, you can bet that they will have my business the next time Im in need of repairs or accessories for my bike.

I love this place. Brought them my sadly abused Bianchi to fix last year and they did beautiful, quick work.Updated to say I bought a new bike for my son here and they were great, found him a good fit. They also offer free maintenance.

Starting from how I was greeted, to how I was treated and quoted..... I’ll never come back here again. You get no stars. Rude and condescending. I don’t even know what I did to deserve being treated how I was but this isn’t the way you treat any one..... my husband was treated like that not so long ago coming here too, trying to just push him off. This is the closest bike shop to where I live. What’s the deal? I guess you don’t like business. If you don’t like talking to and dealing with people find a different job. If not act like you like your job and are there to help, after all you do work at a bike shop where people of all types come in to get their bikes fixed. I hope the owner sees this. I had a horrible experience.

Took my road bike which had a broken derailleur hanger to be repaired and tuned up. Due to Covid, I was quoted about a week and a half as they had to order the part. The mechanic reviewed everything else and said it was the only part that needed to be replaced.Week and a half goes by and I give them a courtesy call to see if the part came in and what the turn around would be. I was told the part wasnt in yet and, in a condescending tone, was told they would call me when its ready.Another week went by and the same thing - no part yet and well call you. At this point I called the bike manufacturer, found out where to purchase the hanger, and received it in three days. With part in hand, I stopped by to see if the part they ordered was in yet. Since it wasnt, I instructed them to install the one I purchased. The mechanic then argued with me, pointing out how the part I received was the wrong one, pointing out the differences in it vs. the photo they had on the screen. I saw my bike so I suggested they try it - surprise - it fit perfectly. Then, the mechanic said OK now we just need a derailleur. What? What happened to the one on the bike that I was told was good? He said it wasnt there and had to order one - another two weeks. The work order I originally received and currently on the computer mentioned nothing about a replacement derailleur being needed. He didnt even know where the original one was.At this point I told them I would take the bike and take care of it elsewhere. I told him to find the derailleur which, after searching many boxes, one was found. It was the same model but really banged up and torn. I dont believe it was the same derailleur from my bike. He said it had damage consistent with the spill I took, however I didnt crash. The derailleur simply broke off while climbing a hill and got caught in the spokes. The original mechanic I dropped the bike off with inspected it and said it was fine.Bottom line I do not trust this shop - didnt appreciate the condescending attitude I received and lack of communication. I ended up buying the parts online (including a new derailleur which I dont think I originally needed) and have the bike back up and running in five days. Sad.

Bought a power meter online and it came fairly quickly. They also had the cheapest price I could find online for the part.

I cant say enough great things about this shop. Matt and Carissa (I hope I got it right this time) are a dynamic duo. They ALWAYS make sure I feel taken care of and anyways open to my constant questions and inquiries about cycling. And let me tell you, they know their stuff. I dont take my bikes to anyone else and I highly recommend this shop to everyone.

Early May 2020, I ordered some tires online from Uptown bicycles. Understanding that shipping at this time is delayed pretty much across the board, regardless of industry, I figured it would take awhile. After two weeks, I still hadnt heard anything. I went into the Normal Heights location and was politely told that its a shipping issue, plus they need to meet minimums when they order from this particular warehouse. I was told to keep an eye out for the shipping email. Another week and a half goes by and still nothing. I stop in again thinking that there was a possibility that the tires had arrived (I selected store pickup when I ordered) but the email had not been sent. Turns out that theory was wrong and the tires had yet to arrive.A few days later, I received an email from the owner who had been briefed on my order. They apologized for the delay and gave me a discount and another goodie to thank me for my patience. They also made sure the order was en route, and I finally received the call two days later. I went in to pickup the tires and they threw in a couple tubes as well!I want to be clear that at no point I gave any grief because I know these are strange times, but I completely appreciated the efforts of the staff and owners. I have been to this location several times before, but this instance persuaded me to write a review. Thank you, Uptown Bicycles! (shoutout to Carissa and Carter).

Horrible “customer service”. They act apprehensive to provide assistance. Don’t even acknowledge you. Went in looking to buy an ebike. The guy said it may be at their other shop..he wouldn’t call to confirm or even offer to ship it to this location. Bad vibes all around.

Friendly folks, excellent bike shop experience. Most of the time people in bike shops are too cool to talk to me once they see I roll on a clapped out beach cruiser. Curtis and the dude from Boston in the back were friendly and helpful and got me sorted and rolling in no time. Strong work!

The team here was amazing at the end of the day. Installed the pedals and grips on my used kits bike for my sons birthday refresh and took the time to help me understand what and how to fit and find a good saddle to avoid sore and hurting chops! Great find and really friendly even with a full day and me being the last person.

I regret coming here thinking the ratings will match with the experience. But to look closer, all of the less than 5 stars was most likely removed. I will never come back for any bicycle services or buy anything from this place. One of their bicycle mechanic was very rude and spoke with a condescending tone. He told me the store is busy and has too many service repair which will take a week turnaround then walk away. I didn’t feel good with this interaction and left. I’m glad I took my bike to another shop who didn’t treat me like I was bothering them

Great little shop, the mechanic there knows his stuff.As with all bike shops yes, you can find the parts for a little bit cheaper online but you risk buying something that may not fit properly if doing so . With this shop they will order the correct item and fit it for a small fee. Labor costs here are extremely competitive. Don’t hesitate to get your bike tuned up here.Also they stock some badass Surly gravel bikes.

First I went for lights, inner tubes, and inflation tools. Next I went for a mysterious clicking noise that was quickly diagnosed and fixed. Finally, the rear wheel was stolen off my bike and Brooklyn Bicycles helped me get back on the road with a new wheel/cassette and a Manhattan Bridge tune-up. My bike now rides better than it ever has. It shifts lightning quick and the brakes have new life breathed into them. The staff at Brooklyn is knowledgeable and friendly. This is a great place and Ill definitely be back.

Super friendly people, I didnt buy a bike or fixed it, instead I ask for a box to move my bike abroad. And not only they provide me with the box, but they provide me with more guidance and knowledge on how to handle it better

Went there with my bf this past week, we got in to get a wheel fixed, walked out with a new bike. For the bike that my bf got, they offer life time free service and 10% off every kind of accessory, even spare parts. They were very nice, and theyre open Saturday and Sundays too. I would recommend it!

A few years ago my car was totalled in an accident, after that I decided to take some time off from. driving to bike more to work and around town. I may not bike as often as I do but when I do I rely on them. I can count on Richie, Omar, Chris, along with the rest of the staff to be helpful and honest. From the first purchase there was never an upscale, they provided honest support and answers to all my need. For that they will always have my patronage.

I needed to replace my chain and get a tune up. I Dropped my bike off early and the staff was able to get me my bike same day! That was amazing! They had a local discount in the paper so I was even more stoked to get a discount. Chris helped me with my bike. He cleaned it off (I did not expect that) and made it ride beautifully. Highly recommend and will be going back :)

They know their stuff and they make you feel right at home in their shop. A great little neighborhood spot. They have social rides as well, so you can connect with other cyclists in the area.

Last year I ordered an $800 on their website. They called me over a week later and said that it wasnt in stock and that I had to pick a color other than black. Then when I cancelled and Yelped them, they contacted Yelp and asked them to remove the negative review on a technicality because I ordered online and was never physically in the store. Im sure they had a good laugh in their craft beers about how much smarter there were than their customer. They never apologized. They basically ghosted me.

Ordered MTB pedals off Amazon though Brooklyn Bicycles of San Diego. I received the product when I expected, I used the product one time and realized there quality issue (not due to Brooklyn Bicycles) from the manufacture. I didnt think I could return it since I already had used it. I reviewed the product on Amazing expressing my discontent. Brooklyn Bicycles immediately emailed be letting me know that they would replace or refund the product. I have never seen an 3rd party seller though Amazon with this kind of customer service. They are replacing the pedals and they are letting me use the ones I will need to return until I get the new ones so I can keep riding. Free shipping and return as well! Truly 5 star customer service.

Ive been here for a few major bike repairs and have been extremely satisfied with the work, the value, and the overall helpful staff. Ive been to a few bike shops around SD that have really let me down, so ever since I found Uptown Bikes, I dont want to go anywhere else.

This shop has always been great, super helpful and very prompt when it comes to getting something replaced via warranty. I had bought a set of NiteRider lights (Swift 450 lumens). I must have gotten a defective front light that would never charge properly. I came into the shop to let them know what I was facing. They took down my contact info and they were able to get me a replacement front light very quickly.Thanks for being awesome guys.

A pretty terrible experience.I went in here about a month ago looking for new tubes and tiresMy bike is a little old and as the person who rides it every day I could just tell it was time for an upgrade. I took it to uptown and the guy told me they were fine and still had a good number of miles left on them. Fine, I went with the professional opinion. Come a couple weeks later my front tire is literally fraying and the tube is popping out. I bring it to uptown again to have it checked out, they fill up my tires and ask “is there anything else I can help you with” and I’m like “yea my front tire is fraying” and then POP!!! There goes my front tire right in front of the guys face. And then he’s like “so new tubes and tires “ oh you mean what I came in here a month ago for ? Yea I’ll take them. Waiting around for about 15 20 minutes come to find out they don’t have my size tire “can we keep it overnight it’s in our storage” seriously my main method of transportation especially when I have to be to work At 7 in the morningThe guy with the beard is not particularly friendly and never gave a name when we asked for itHe’s also the one who told me my tires still had some miles on themI can’t decide if they kinda don’t know what they’re doing or if they would rather just like work around having to put new tubes and tires on a rimEither way it was frustrating and not as smooth as something as easy as tires and tubes should be, I can’t help but feel like this could have all been avoided if they would have just sold me the tubes and and tires I went in for a month agoHow annoying
