Sadly, the latte I asked for was made incorrectly then made again, incorrectly. I asked for an iced almond latte, mistake was that they made it hot. And to correct they just pour the hot latte over ice. Wonderful little coffee house on the Main Street square. Awesome spot right next to the park. Went for breakfast (bagel sandwich and a farmer’s quiche) which was so good. The owner was so kind and emphasizes using local products! The smoothies are very good and refreshing. Their espresso is great, too!! Alternative Fuel exceeded my expectations! Come here for sure

Our drinks were delicious, however it took way to long to get them to us. I guess the place was understaffed. I felt that the staff could have been friendlier, but instead seemed flustered and didnt care to help me with my choice. It was my first time there, so I had some questions about the drink choice, and they werent really eager to help. The place seemed cute though, and was also busy. A nice local alternative to Starbucks. Cute decor.

Love this place! I have read some of the other comments from people where they felt staff was rude or they didnt have a positive experience and am surprised at this. I have never had a bad experience and love the food and drink items as well as the fact that it is a smaller business and not just a large franchise. I think we all have had to have extra patience over the last year in regards to how fast service is however, fresh items also take longer to prepare and is worth the wait in my opinion. I can also say that as a pet owner I am usually prepared with a bowl or poop bags for my dogs when we go out and about as that is just part of being a responsible pet owner. Cant say enough about the staff and the quality of the menu items, I personally am in love and obsessed with their lavender lemonade...it is to die for!!

I always love finding local coffee shops and bookstores when I move somewhere new. So I was so happy to find Alternative Fuel right next to Mitzi’s!! I’ve been here twice now and both times have been amazing. I usually come in with an idea of what I’d like but am open to suggestions by the staff because obviously they know their menu much better than I do. The first time I got a hot chai and oh my goodness!!! It was one of the most amazing chais I have EVER had! The second time I came, I sat in the cafe a while after ordering to read. I got the Orange Dreamcicle (I think that was the name). I was a little wary of it but it was so so amazing! I will definitely be returning and I have a feeling this will quickly become my favorite establishment to frequent on my days off.

Everyone is ALWAYS nice. The food is very good. Since Covid I haven’t been in for a while and they treated me like I’ve been coming in the whole year. Love these guys and it’s the best unique coffee shop downtown. You guys rock!

DO NOT COME HERE!!!! Wish I could give 0 stars. The owner is EXTREMELY disrespectful!!! They didn’t tell me my drink had dairy when I asked about the ingredients and REFUSED to remake it when I asked (and told them that I am lactose intolerant). She instead told me that I wasted her product and it was my fault it wasn’t right. This was the WORST CAFE EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD. ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE AND APPAULING. After my friends went in to try to help me, she also told them that we wasted the drink. I literally cannot digest dairy so the drink was a complete waste anyway. I am not the one that wasted the drink. It was the coffee house’s fault that the drink was wasted.

This is my first google review but I was quite annoyed with the staff and customer service! Came by around 6:10pm the girl opened the door and said they were closed (closed at 6pm). I only asked for a cup of water for my dog as none of the other business around were open to sell water. The lady said there was a bucket of water outside I explained my dog was in the car. She said they couldn’t serve a cup of water at that time. Her demeanor was quite rude and I was very unimpressed that they couldn’t take two seconds to fill a plastic cup with water for a dog on a hot day. It’s fine I had to walk down the street to find another place that sold water, but how inconsiderate! I won’t be giving the coffee shop any of my business from now on.

The coffee was great, and the breakfast sandwiches were delicious (and huge - I needed a fork, which is a good thing). Hope to stop back in the next time were in the area.

Dont go here for the food. They was super slow and the food quality is not good. I had breakfast then and since I am having upset stomach since.

Love this place. Owner has been there every time I have been there. She is helpful and passionate with her work. Lots of GF options, sandwiches smoothies with protein, coffee, bubble tea, coffee is great. Had an eggnog latte last time we were there. The eggs on the sandwiches are so fluffy and good. Maybe try calling ahead if in a rush, not the fastest search, but always worth the wait- always people in there.

One of the most disappointing coffee ever . I ordered latte and it was so watery like I doubted if it was made of skim milk but my husband went and asked and they said it’s whole milk and tasted like nothing but hot water . The staff is super friendly but never going to return for coffee here .

When we first saw this place, we were not sure how much they offered in the line of traditional coffee and coffee drinks because of the name “Alternative Fuel.” We were pleasantly surprised to see an extensive menu of coffee and a very nice selection of food. The prices are extremely reasonable and the location and ambience were ideal. Will definitely be coming back when we are in Rapid again!

I sat waiting for 40 minutes and this was my third time going and it wasn’t any faster before. We came at the end of the day and it wasn’t even very busy. If u have any future plans at all I would not recommend I have gotten snapped at by a barista for not being patient after 30 minutes so yeah.

I’ll try to be constructive instead of just complaining. The biscuits and gravy were swimming in gravy, not enough biscuit to gravy ratio-flavor was not great. The breakfast burrito-id scratch that from the menu, it’s just not good. We were told the burrito wasn’t spicy, and it was. A lot of mushy aspects going on there. The oatmeal came with nothing, just plain. Which okay, would have been nice to be told it didn’t come with anything else. The ham croissant sandwich (which you guys forgot one from the order I ordered two)-not sure what kind of egg you are using? was watery, mushy, scrambled egg type from a box), piece of ham thrown on top. Soggy. The breve was sickly sweet though I’d asked for half flavor, which apparently we were reassured there was. I do admit, I should have asked the gal to repeat the order back to me since it was a larger order to go. But that is also something a professional place should do, without the customer prompting them. I’m glad to see others are enjoying their experience here, we however were very disappointed.

The baristas were kind, fast and the drink tasted great! I came in the afternoon so it was pretty empty and perfect for studying. The only thing that I didnt love was the music that was playing. But I will be back sometime in the future.

If I lived here, I would have a 32 Oz Iced Americano and a bowl of Homemade Granola here every day for breakfast.

Stopped here for breakfast. Overall it was ok. The food was good but the coffee I had (with an extra shot) lacked flavour and body. The staff were polite and helpful enough but didn’t really engage which compared to other places we visited I. Rapid City felt a bit of a let down. The coffee shop itself lacked atmosphere - very quiet. And the final thing that wasn’t so good is we stayed in but was given a disposable paper cup rather than a China cup.

I love this place and always have, I live right down the road and Im constantly ordering or picking up food. But I feel like the quality has gone down quite a bit since start of tourists season.. I get the same thing every time and its becoming less and less.. my sandwich had literally 4 pieces of deli meat, about 5 spinach leafs and legit one onion. I always get a build your own everything bagel club but its not the same or worth the price anymore

I wish I had enough space to go back to the time when this alternative fuel coffee shop opened its doors at its first location. There have been mini, mini, mini trials for this coffee house to even receive anything less than a 5 plus plus rating! I am a Denver, Colorado resident now but for the last 18 years I lived in Rapid City, South Dakota.I cannot express the amount of generosity in the heartfelt love this put into this coffee shop. I only say that because I saw it from the ground up. I wish or let me rephrase that I pray that you continue to bless this coffee shop every time you go to Rapid City, South Dakota!😉😎😇

Lacking in friendly and very pricey! My daughter ordered a bubble tea and it was horrible. When my husband told the lady at the register she said okay and you can throw it away. I went to the register and demanded they make it right. They should have offered it. Also when making our other drinks the gentleman making them sneezed and didn’t wear gloves. The only decent person was the blonde lady who brought out our food. Needless to say, we will not be returning. Now I understand the bad reviews and why the place was a ghost town. Back to Harriet and Oak I go.

The staff here were incredibly friendly and tried to steer me towards a drink they thought I would like based on my request for an iced, blended espresso drink with caramel in it. The drink was just so-so– not bad tasting per se… but dind’t taste like espresso OR caramel… and the ice was mostly melted from the get go.The sausage burrito with gravy and cheese on top is another story. It was HUGE and one of the most delicious breakfast burritos I’ve ever had. It made for a great supper too!

Saw this was the best rated coffee shop in town so we checked it out.PROS: The interior is a nice design, albeit a bit small, and the sausage breakfast burrito was scrumptious.An employee cleaned our table while we sat there.CONS: I wasnt too impressed with the coffee. I ordered a blended iced mocha with a shot of raspberry. They blended it to a runny consistency and forgot the whipped cream (which they remedied once I let them know). Another customer had her iced coffee blended and lamented the consistency as well. For the price ($4.73 for 20 oz.) I expected better.If you want GREAT coffee, come to the Coffee House in Lincoln, NE and try a granita with a shot of raspberry (and toddy if you need a jolt of energy)!

Stopped in for a coffee and a bite to eat. While the coffee was very good, they dont post the prices of their food items. After about five minutes of asking the barista how much is this?..and How much is that? With the barista having to punch the item into the cash register to find out the price, I tired of this little game and ate somewhere else. PLEASE post the prices of your food items!! Will never return except to maybe buy a cup of coffee.

One of the few coffee shops with a real sized coffee. Hot drink are up to 20oz, and if get it iced you can get up to a 32oz. Love getting a coffee and a whole quiche on sundays. Prices are good and they even have delivery through fooddudes. Oh and their chairs are nice, if thats your your thing.

I had a smoothie with boba and my boyfriend had the Jazzy Java specialty drip brew. Both were delicious. A great find in a nice down town area. Only wish the staff was a bit nicer.

I stopped in before Scare in the Square and ordered a latte and a sausage burrito. The lady brought me out a bacon jalepeno burrito. I told the lady she brought me the wornc burrito and she said sorry about that and walked away.

Very slow and disorganized. Visited during Native POP and they were completely understaffed. Beverages were ok. Nothing special. Did not order food, but noticed that others were waiting for quite a while. The menu board is extremely confusing and needs to be redone. Will not visit again by choice.

The staff was really friendly and they have great smoothies. I was visiting Rapid City for a week on a road trip and tried this place out to do some work during the day. The wifi is decent, I think someone was heavily using it though as the speeds were fluctuating a lot. Still it was enough for random emails and research.This coffee house is also located in a pretty cool part of downtown rapid city. Great area to wander around afterwards.I visited here in June of 2016.

It smelled great, lots of young adults, and the caramel pecan roll heated without butter was SO TASTY!Also it appeared they had a lot of healthy smoothies if you wanted to go that route.
