This place is great! I was very anxious about an upcoming, urgent move, as I hadnt moved in several years. I rented a storage locker and truck, and had to manage a lot of other moving pieces. The staff, from the front desk folks, to the truck washer, to the actual owner of this location, all helped put me at ease. They were friendly, empathetic, and knowledgeable.The physical storage lockers are clean and safe. The truck I used was basic, but also very clean. I highly recommend!

Terrible experience. I call them on Friday to schedule an appointment for Sunday at 10:30 am. I showed up at 10:00 during check in the employee told me it would be an hour wait. I was like ok. I didnt get access to my ubox until 1:30pm. Every time I ask an employee why is it taking so long their response was we have other customers and we short staff. Oh so my $120 you take from my account every month means nothing? Im not a customer too? I watch so many people come and go the whole time I was there. If I could give them 0 stars I would. Currently, looking for another storage unit. Ive never been so annoyed.

*Updated to 2 stars to reflect FINALLY receiving communication about a mistaken charge and a refund.* I used a U Box to move cross country and it was a nerve-wracking, frustrating experience. Not only was my box 2 weeks late and customer service was rude and unhelpful, I was mistakenly charged for an extra month of storage at U Haul Storage @ Columbia while my U box was in transit and have called and emailed repeatedly for a refund and have still not received ANY communication about this.

One star is still more than I would give. Long review, but if you are dealing with a ubox and moving please read so you dont go through this frustration.1. I had a reservation for a pick up truck in this location. When I arrived there was none available. They made me a reservation at a nearby location and said they had one available for me. Arrived to the other location and they said they never had one available, so they dont know why they told me to go there. Waste of time and did nothing about the inconvenience they caused for the runaround.2. Had a ubox dropped of at this site, for it to be shipped to a different state. Its been one month and U haul still cant locate my ubox. To then be told it never left this location. So now we are in a new state new apartment, with all our belongings in that box still in Portland. Being told they are waiting for the next available shipper so they can deliever our items.The frustrating part about this is we had a feeling that it never left the site, because how unorganized everyone was. I personally called to ask for a verification that the box has left because noone at uhaul was able to locate it. And they assured it left. 2 weeks later we get contacted the box was still in Portland at this location.

Recently moved from Florida to the Portland area. I had problems with the Florida pick up site, but the folks here at my Columbia end location were there to help me get the issue resolved. Nothing but honest helpful answers all along the way. Would recommend and use this specific location again!

Super personable Im really glad I got to experience her as my customer service person and treated me with respect. Made a super stressful events a little bit easier to manage. Recently we’ve had to use U-Haul services more often than expected. We have even unexpectedly had to extend and change our return date with our truck rentals as well as put our pickup date on our uboxes further out. And as we all know moving is one of the most stressful and overwhelming experiences that we would all like to avoid. But thank goodness for the great and even superior at times, customer service, it has made it a much better life changing experience. From the employees at the desk to the great people at customer call center. It’s been nothing but wonderful. Thank you for making a somewhat of a bad situation good.

Tyler worked with me to set me up for success on my auto transport rental. This specific transport spawned a few unexpected set backs and Tyler made sure to take care of all issues. Even in the pouring rain, he did his best to make sure we were good to go on the road and kept a cheerful attitude while working. Great experience!

I had a 26 truck reserved for this morning. My online reservation said pick up at Columbia location. When I showed up to pick up my truck they said it was at a location 30m away. They were rude and didnt care that my reservation on the website was incorrect and that I had just drived 40m to pick up a truck that wasnt there. I never recieved a call and no updates were made to my reservation. I rent trucks frequently, this was a very disappointing experience. If I could give 0 stars I would due to inconvenience and response from the employees. I understand accidents happen but the staff was rude even though I had no way of knowing my reservation had been changed even after showing them the details on my phone.

Great associate replaced the wiper blades on my assigned truck when I asked. Ended up being critical as it was raining for most of my move. They had tons of trucks on site and I felt confident that they would be able to honor my reservation.

I reserved my truck over the phone and when I went to pick it up it was a very quick and easy process to get me on the road. I love that theyre open 24/7 because I dropped the tuck off pretty late and there was someome there to take the keys. They emailed me my receipt the next day and nothing was a surprise from what they explained to me at time of pickup.

EDIT: U-Haul reached out & refunded me for gas. I updated from 1 star to 3 stars. I still would be wary about using this company in the future, but I appreciate the refund.-----Moving is stressful. Moving truck companies should help eliminate that stress. U-Haul did not. The most stressful part of my move was the shoddy truck I received from U-Haul on Columbia.Online reservation: I reserved through the online system and received a message that someone would call me to confirm the date/time and equipment. No one called. We realized this at 7pm the night before the move. As it was after hours, we couldnt get ahold of a human. I tried to use the online system, but it didnt recognize my name or email. (The online system sucks. This happened to me when I reserved in July too.) The online system is awful.Morning of move: Panicking because no one ever reached out to confirm our appointment, we called U-Haul when they opened at 7am. We were on hold for 45 minutes. Fortunately, they did have record of our reservation, but that ate up a lot of time.Pick-up: We arrived at our scheduled time. The truck was there but had ZERO gas -- so little that it wouldnt even start. It took staffers 30 minutes to pour in some. We were told we needed to go immediately to a gas station. The staff member who poured in the gas told us wed be reimbursed for any gas we added. (Spoiler: We werent.)Meeting the movers: We had allocated an hour to pick up the truck. Because of all the gas issues, that wasnt enough time and we were late to meet the movers. As theyre paid by the hour, that sucked.Opening/loading the truck: The back had been swept, but there were no moving blankets. Weird. Still, we loaded it successfully. Woohoo!Driving the truck: Now fully loaded, THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START!! The battery was so dead, it wouldnt even click.Roadside assistance: We contacted roadside assistance and were told it would be TWO HOURS for a mechanic to arrive. Remember, we have movers that were paying by the hour!We called customer service. They said there was nothing they could do. It was their national office, so we asked for contact info for our rental location (on Columbia). They didnt have it. The only contact info the Columbia location had given us was to their national office. Not helpful. Finally, the mechanic dispatched by U-Haul arrives. HE DOESNT KNOW WHERE THE BATTERY IS!! One of our movers literally had to lie on the ground with him to show him. This is the mechanic dispatched by U-Haul. 🤦🏼Final lap: Finally, we get the truck started and drive to our new place. The whole way, the truck makes awful noises and the oil gauge fluctuates from empty. I have no idea when U-Haul last did an oil change on this vehicle, but if its the same time as the last battery change, I assume roughly never.Running late: U-Haul called at one point because another family needed the truck. I had received a text with after hours drop-off instructions shortly after getting the truck, so we had assumed a late return would be no big deal. I felt bad saying we werent on our way back with the truck, but 1. With all the delays caused by U-Haul, of course that means we are also late & 2. Were still in a pandemic. How in the world did U-Haul expect to flip a truck for another driver so quickly? COVID safety standards are definitely lacking.Fees: We returned the truck. The next day I checked my credit card statement and see two charges pending from U-Haul. I have no idea what the second charge is for because theres been zero communication. Because of U-Haul, Ive lost over $400 paying movers for idle time. Ive spent $100 on gas. Oh, but they credited me $28 for gas. Theres easily $75 of gas left in the tank. (It was on E and was returned with a little over half a tank.) They dont communicate and dont respect their employees statements about reimbursement.Tl/dr: The abysmal maintenance at this U-Haul location and the poor systems at U-Haul nationally will cost you money. Stay away.

We got bad information at another location but Ashley went above and beyond to make it right and ensure we were all taken care of. Ashley and Ian made moving to a new city and state in the middle of a pandemic so much easier and less stressful. Also, a huge shout out to Lavinia. My kids went to the bathroom without telling me and she helped me find them. All around this is the best U-Haul location anyone could ask for.

I rented a UHaul truck with a car towing dolly from Florida. I came to drop off just the dolly but was told they don’t do partial returns. When I came back to return the truck and dolly, I was told they actually do partial returns but the employee was just too lazy to do the partial return.

If I could give 0 stars I would. No one knows what they are doing. I had a reservation with email confirmation to pick up my Uhaul box. When I get there I get told by a lady with a very smug attitude there was no record of it and wouldn’t be able to do anything until next weekend. So basically I’m starting to feel like I’m paying them to hold my belongings hostage.

I will never ever again rent a uhaul from here. They charged me for a dolly and furniture pads when I didn’t use them. So they were going to refund me the $70. Which they didn’t. So I’m trying to explain that to them, and Ian who I just had the worst experience with was so hostile and when I tried to tell him I wasn’t upset I was just trying to explain it to him he kept rudely cutting me off, so I asked to speak to a manger and then he proceeds to tell me there is no manger then tells me he’s the manger. Then he decides to hang up in my face as I’m keeping the calmest tone. I’ve never been so disrespected with such lack of customer service. Ian is definitely having a bad day and needs a talkin to on how customer service works .

My husband and I had our U-Haul boxes stored in San Francisco for a bit over a month, then had the boxes shipped and stored in Portland for less than a month. Our experiences were good up until our boxes got shipped to Portland. When we attempted to get in contact with this location to discuss a prorated price for storage of our U-Haul boxes, no one has answered our phone calls or voicemails. We attempted to discuss ahead of time with U-Haul about paying a prorated price for our 3rd month of storage, as we only had our boxes stored for 5 days of that month. All customer service representatives stated that the payment for the 3rd month would need to go through first, and then we would need to get in contact with the manager of this U-Haul location directly to discuss a prorated price. The manager (or any staff) from this location has been completely unresponsive. After also spending hours on the phone trying to fix a mistake someone had made on the phone with our delivery dates (they told the moving company we needed then delivered August 11th, when we really needed them delivered on September 1st??), Ive found this experience to be incredibly frustrating.

Location had reservation time and date wrong, materials I ordered several days prior weren’t ready when I went to pick them up, 24/7 pickup app didn’t work when I went to pick up my vehicle so called 1-800 number then was on hold with 1-800 number for 20 minutes before they dropped my call trying to transfer me. This all forced me to start my move several hours later than desired. Then I was charged for gas I replaced and charged a cleaning fee after sweeping out the truck. Location was able to refund me for gas and cleaning fee but will never do business here or with uhaul ever again. Ridiculous ordeal, horrible inconvenience. Not sure if it’s disorganization or if they’re actually trying to rip people off but wouldn’t be surprised if it was the latter.

At first this was the fastest and friendliest U-Haul I have done business with. The issue I had was that they over charged me for my miles driven. The bill was more than expected and the guy pretty much said well, there is nothing I can do about that... I was also told that the manager Eli would call me. Still waiting for that call. I had the van for about 1:40 minutes and drove 22 miles and got charged for 64, that is roughly a $32 overcharge. Very disappointed from a long time customer.I just changes my review from two stars to one! The Manager still will not return my phone call. I guess after many years of using U-Haul, I will find someone else to rent from.

After a terrible experience at the St Johns U-Haul, this U-Haul location has redeemed the brand name. Ive rented a couple of vehicles from them, and theyre always on point. My truck is always ready, its clean and well maintained, and the customer service is excellent. They actually called me to come take a couple of bags I left in the back so they wouldnt charge me a cleaning fee! Seriously great, and Ill be coming here for all my moving needs.

We typically use auto transports 4-5 times a year from around the United States as well as rental trucks, storage, as well as purchasing packing supplies. That said, we have become accustomed to the typical ho-him service by employees at uhaul who otherwise appear to want to be somewhere else. Weve become accustomed in general to this level of mediocre service. Imagine our complete amazement when we discovered not only the best customer service weve encourtned at a U-haul location but also the introduction to an otherwise really great person. Dylan not only exceeded our expectations but was able to set aside a current project he was working on to help us with a minor emergency with the trailer hitch attached to our tow vehicle. It was a complicated problem that challenged his years of experience and required out of the box thinking to ensure our safety as we continued on our cross country trek. As a company, u-haul should take note of his dedication and skill and attention to detail with the customer service he provided. He would make a great manager or assistant regional trainer where he could help u-haul improve its customer service and branding identity with the employees that he could train. Thank you Dylan for doing an excellent job in helping us and truly caring about what you do in your line of work helping those who dont have your knowledge or skill set. If youre needing any uhaul services its worth going out of your way to this location and requesting Dylan should you need trailer hitch support.

Ive generally had bad luck with U-Haul, but my experience here was completely different. We were the only customers in the store, so we were able to get all set up with our truck in about 5 minutes. The man who helped us was Eli, the owner, and he was very friendly and helpful. There was a snafu with the furniture we had rented the truck to pick up, so we returned the truck about an hour after picking it up. He asked how the new couch looked, and when I told him that it had not been available, he went ahead and reversed the charges, since wed only driven the truck 2 miles round-trip. It was an unexpected gift after a lousy interaction at the furniture store, and it really helped salvage our day. If I need to rent a truck in the future I will definitely come to this store to do it, and I highly recommend Elis courtesy and professionalism.

I had a difficult move to make and the folks at this U-Haul location made it much easier. It was a single stop for me since I got a van and a storage unit from them, which made everything go smoother. There was a slight mix up when I went to pick up the van, but they sorted out out quickly without making it a big deal. I was easily able to extend my rental when I needed to and they were even helpful when I realized I left an item in the cab, grabbing it for me and setting it aside in the office so I could pick it up. Their storage facility is really nice. Its climate controlled, including humidity, and has wide, automatic doors, keycard entry, and free use of flatbed carts for loading and unloading your stuff. Its secure and exceedingly clean and I feel good about storing my things there. All in all, Im really glad I chose this U-Haul location for my move and I would definitely do so again.

The worst, ABSOLUTE WORST, customer service I have ever had. The heavy girl in the office is terrible!None ever answers the phone. The uboxe door is difficult to shut because of poor construction. They can never find me in the computer. 3 times so far I requested to get to my ubox, the request never shows up so I must reschedule my day!THIS IS YOUR BUSINESS UHAUL, THINK YOU CAN GET IT RIGHT???Now there are a few good (men) people working there, pleasant, professional and helpful. I wish they were there every day :(

If I could give it a zero I would! Returned my truck here and the guy said you have an extra day and gas is not full. Have him supporting paperwork from pick up Uhaul location to correct issues. He states after 15 minutes ok got that fixed you are good to go! 3 days later changes my card for an extra day and fuel!!!

Moving...Just when you think you have planned perfectly, something is going to happen.Indeed my move has been a complete and total nightmare. Cross country drive with 2 dogs and 2 cats, spread across 2 cars and 4 days, and some of the other caveats that make moving an unpleasant undertaking.We used the Uhaul Uboxes which is kinda new territory for me, very convenient i may add.Long story short, the proverbial gotcha manifested itself after the epic packing and driving part of our move.I could go on about how desperate my situation was,about how i thought everything was clear but became very complicated but it would only get in the way of my ability to relay how well we were ultimately treated by Michelle at the Portland/Columbia location.She very likely has earned the equivalent of a masters degree in psychology and public relations during her tenure with the company.Michelle was truly patient with us while we stressed and freaked out about our situation, she remained objective and indeed went out of her way (she would say its part of her duty) to help us on a Saturday afternoon when she should be home decompressing from dealing with stressed out people like myself all week. Seriously.Anyway, my problem isnt completely fixed yet, but whats perhaps more important is that now i have the confidence that it will be fixed.*editMy problem is now sorted.The staff went well above and out of their way to make sure that our suffering was minimal and satisfaction maximum. I can attest that this is a store that actually cares about doing a good job.I would 100% refer anyone to this store.

When they picked up the ubox from my driveway, the drivers truck ripped the internet cable off the side of my house.Instead of apologizing and repairing their damage, they decided to get some Marketing VP out to my house with a tape measure.He says he doesnt know how the truck caught it BUT according to his tape measure the cable was too low for city ordinance or some BS. So due to that, theyre denying responsibility and wont pay.So basically, the driver wasnt paying attention and ripped a cable off my house, and in order to shirk their responsibilities, they called some supervisor with a tape measure to try and find some way to blame me for the whole thing.This is a rental house, I dont know about any city ordinance on cable installation, but both my neighbors have the same height. They told me I could call the cable company and have them measure it and challenge the uhaul prick.Moral of the story- I have no internet for my internet-based job, I now have to pay for a new cable, and if I try to fight it, I need to spend the entirety of next week trying to force two giant corporations to figure this out, which is unlikely.Up until now Uhaul has worked great for me, but they showed their true, greedy colors today, so theyll never get my business again.I work from home starting tomorrow but with no internet Ill have to take time off.

The customer service here is impressively terrible. We reserved a storage unit 1 day in advance and showed up to store our things, only to find that the unit they reserved for us had been broken for several days before they assigned it to us. Then we had to drive across town to another uhaul to store our things. Thank goodness that had space, since the customer representative would not call them for us and when we tried to call to make sure there was vacancies, we got put on hold for longer than it would take to just drive there anyway. Then when we tried to drop off the uhaul, we were told to call a 1-800 number by the representative in the store before he slipped into the back. We were then neglected for at least 20 mins in the store as more and more customers piled up in line - are you kidding me? What an awful company with terrible employees. Try anywhere else unless you dont value your time.

Huge problems with management here, was overcharged and had to call the 1800 number multiple times to get things fixed. Horrible experience and will not go back again. We order uhauls multiple times a year for our non profit and have never had problems in 5+ years Ive been in charge of it.
