These guys are great. I go in regularly to stock up on spring Roll wrappers for my food cart.
I love exploring new (to me) grocery stores and Mingala was lovely. I stocked up my spice cabinet with items that are difficult to find in standard American grocery stores, like asafoetida and basil seed. Staff was friendly and courteous.
A great variety of international foods at very good reasonable prices. Every turn of an isle is a new experience. A very good produce selection with some unusual items and a halal meat selection.
Cant say enough good about this place. Theyre friendly, helpful and always have what I need.
This is the lowest cost butcher shop in town. All halal meat, lower priced than Winco. Well managed, none of the dirt or expired products that are so common in small shops. Clean, organized, low prices. A rarity, and for this reason, the best place to get your S Asian and Middle Eastern foods.
Costumer service is good. Friendly staff.
Amazing store... amazing selections. Super friendly staff
Exotic foods. Finally found fresh saffron
Staff very helpful in assisting me locate the speciality spices I needed.
Worst store they washed the chicken because smell bad but they trick people I saw when they washed I went there to buy some meat but I change my mind because they washed the meat disgusting store
Like a store Indiana Jones would go to but not because he wants to.
I just wish it was tidy and smelled good. 😕
I could spend hours in this place. I love the variety of products that you dont see anywhere else. Im totally into any kind of ethnic food and this place has products that Ive seen and stuff Ive never heard of and want to try. Halal meats in the back, groceries in the front. Very nice staff too.
Great little Indian store. Ill be back for sure. Fresh Chicken, Lamb, and beef, as well as frozen Indian dishes. Im going to like this spot.
Great prices on fresh spices (thats what I went there for)! Like... Way cheaper than a typical brand name grocery store (is that a thing to call them?), and they have a great spice selection for different Asian and Indian cuisines. (But Im a white girl, so take that with a grain of salt.) Going back soon to check out the meat counter and produce.
I came into the store thinking it would be nice to have something different to eat from other parts of the world. The store is not the problem, the problem is the guy running it. The cashier acted hostile towards me. He gave me a rude comment, You look like a liberal, are you one of those liberals?, in his heavy foreign accent. Hes an immigrant who made clear he was right-wing supporter, I think the guy is just confused. Now how politics and my views (which he assumed) came into place while I was just shopping for food will forever baffle my mind. I will definitely not be returning to this store, the manager seems kind of racist like someone previously had mentioned. I guess he hates the color green.
Great service
When we arrived to Portland we saw that store. Store name is Mingala, that means is nice, good etc...in Burmese language. We really happy that can get good Burmese grocery. But, when we get inside store, we got totally wrong. Because, that cashier and employees are so rude to us. Cashier said himself that Im Rohingya without I asked question to him. Look like he really hates Burmese people. So, why he using his store name with Burmese pronunciations? I want to say to Burmese people that dont go there. Actually, Rohingya are not from Burma. They are from Bangladesh. So, we called Bengali.
The store has lots of ethnic stuff. From Indian kitchen to middle eastern kitchen. There is always lots of people friendly people there. They have huge variety of tea, cookies, cheese. They also sell meat(s) that are HALAL. Overall I can find everything I need in there.
The best halal store .nice and friendly staff .Good, fresh and cheap groceries .Thanks
Impressive selection of spices frozen food and much more. A good place for quick check out.
The store has lots of ethnic stuff. From Indian kitchen to middle eastern kitchen. There is always lots of people when I go there. They have huge variety of tea, cookies, cheese. They also sell meat but I have never bought. The meat section looks little messy. But overall I can find everything I need in there.
I am so glad these guys are here! They have everything youd want from a market of this type. They are clearly plugged in to the needs of the locals. I came for some dried mint, I stayed for the possibilities of all the amazing ingredients. Thanks for being here!
They have great selection and prices for spices, herbs, and legumes; very helpful and courteous service. Unusual and tasty foods.
Owners are very rude and obnoxious theres plenty of better places to shop
Steal Steal and steal money...Cashiers are well trained thieves and try to steal money. It happened in 3 different occasions for me. One time before he rang up my item he had scanned another one. When asked he said someone else scanned. Another time he charged same item more than once. Other time he overcharged item and my bill was $30 more than it supposed to be. When asked he said you are right; something is wrong. Do not trust the cashier. He will get extra money out of you when you are not watching. Also, poor and rude customer service. Be careful.
Lots of hard to find Mediterranean items for very good prices. Some of the best olives Ive ever had can be found here and are priced extremely well
Zero customer service, rude.
Owner was rude when dealing with erroneous product.I wonder if these ratings are probably skewed because there seem to be a lot of 1 to 3 star reviews with a lot of helpful detail and most of the good reviews are short. Be weary.with some hospitality and problem resolution skills it could make them better.
It was great but I didnt like the prices.
I can buy all my ingredients here for Indian/ or Mediterranean cooking.
Too crowded, people talking different languages. Makes you feel uncomfortable
Very good I’m like the Mingala because the have all halal good service fresh meat and Goat,Lamb want the buy thank you guys !
Love this market. Halal meat. Frozen foods. Fair prices.
Very clean, friendely staff, reasonable prices and fresh meat, lot of parking etc....
This is one of the rarest kinds of mercantile around. Not only are they one of only a handful of dedicated Burmese grocery stores in North America, but they are owned by friends of the grimly persecuted Rohingya ethnic group from western Burma. Support this store and stand for Portlands best side of welcoming.
Always good service and prices are not too bad
Good prices, owner brings items that is hard to find as long as they are available in the U.S. and there is demand for it.
Lots of interesting selections of middle eastern & I believe they have hallah meat. The cashier can be a bit brusk in manner
Rude and expensive. I was supprise such a rude cashier and manager of this store. I have a friend faced the same rude and knowing of not only myself such experiences from their customers service. Good location and variety are their advantage of this business only. Definitely I will go other place and no recommend it.
I need to go to halal store ones a month, I don’t really like going to this store because it smells too too bad really disgusting. Every time I go there I get nausea. The other issue is too hard to find what I need, the store is not organized. The owner should take care of the business, if the owner wanna the business work, need to clean and organize the store.
Great place, great selection. Helps if you know what you are looking for but the cashier was extremely helpful !
I go here once every few months to get enormous jugs of olive oil, a reasonable price for such large quantities that put star and neopolean to great shame. I get spice mixes, I dont know how I lived without my pakistani bbq spice mix, and halal lamb, goat, and other meats. Halal means it was treated well and died mercifully, a comfort I enjoy having and with their prices, doesnt take a great sacrifice to get it. Also has henna, rose water, rice, cheeses, honey with the honey comb in it and sometimes German chocolate.
Great market for eastern and halal cuisine. Great place to get middle eastern ingredients that you wouldnt be able to get from the supermarket.
International food and spices at great prices. Main complaint is that pricing for a half to two thirds of items is missing/absent, but was pleasantly surprised to be rung up for $9.50 when I thought it would be $15-20. Dried shrimp were half the price of Fubonn and Channa Masala, tarragon, and other spices were only $1.29 or $2.00. This is also the only place Ive found lemongrass in outer SE. Will be returning here. Also, beware of hours being changed without it being updated here. I arrived at 9 am, the original time Google Maps said they opened, and they were closed and due to open at 10 am as posted on the front door. I updated the information with the app, and it is currently enacted, but am not sure the closing time of 7:30 is correct. As a business, you really cant get away with having incorrect information on such apps in 2016.
Great prices on fresh meat and a huge selection of ethnic food.
Great place, they had everything I needed and people who work there are super nice. I highly recommend this place!!!!
Cant get fresh seafood and vegetables any were else!
Definitely international. I was looking for Indian groceries and I was really hoping this would be the spot. When I was there they didnt have garlic naan, or any fresh naan at all, only frozen. Much of the produce had mold including the coconuts. No Indian simmer sauces at all, but they did have paneer in the refrigerator (not frozen) for a $6. Not a great selection of incense. While it does have a crazy selection of international foods and the shelves are bursting with stock, its not a complete solution for those of us on the east side looking for Indian fare.
Fantastic shop, found most of what I was looking for.
International food market with variety of Indian and middleastern food with great price.
Halal meat. Butchers from Myanmar they speak little English you can find desi products
Owner doesn’t even know the prices of the stores products. Disappointing, never going back.
Everything halal you can find it here, all kinds of meat and chicken.
Cashier is a dick. Throws customers things in their packs and they use boxes to put things that bought.
Good place to find halal food
Worst halal store everThere meat is so old and disgusting
Great place to buy meat from
I dont think they check their inventory, some of the products they sell ve expired dates specially frozen products.
Average prices but poor customer service
It was okay just the line was long and they have 2 register And only 1 open ...
Really bad
