Searls supplied all of the windows and doors for my current home, which I had built in 2004. Ive had an issue with the transom window units in my garage breaking during extremely cold weather over the years. I had the first window that broke years ago replaced by a contractor. I decided to replace the second window unit that broke by myself, because I enjoy doing things myself when its within my capabilities. Searls was kind enough to allow me to purchase a replacement insulated glass unit from them to complete that repair. So when a third window broke during extremely cold weather this past winter, I contacted Searls again, and they agreed to sell me another insulated glass unit for the repair. The problem was the execution. I was referred to someone within Searls named Rob, who over the phone took the dimensional information and coding etched into the window to obtain a match. Then I heard nothing. So I called to follow up and he promised to look into it and get back with me. No return call. So I followed up again, and again, and again. I spoke to Rob four or five times on the phone over several weeks and received nothing but blame shifting and promises. It became clear that Rob didnt want to deal with me, perhaps because I wasnt a big score, so I gave up and bought the replacement glass from another supplier. I wish Rob would have just been honest with me up front so I wouldnt have wasted my time. Im sure I didnt waste his time because I doubt he spent any getting me a replacement window. Robs problem, however, is short-term thinking. My 5,000 square foot home with a ton of large windows on all four sides is now 17 years old, and will likely be needing new windows sometime in the not-to-distant future. Guess what supplier has absolutely zero chance of receiving that order...
So this business sells windows but does not do installation. They can refer you to installers in your area however. Mostly their clients are contractors. They have a very nice showroom for you to compare a few different manufacturers. Mr. Searl took quite a bit of time to answer a bunch of questions. He was knowledgeable, candid, and most helpful. This was before he knew if we had a contractor and whether or not he/she bought from Searls. We didnt have a contractor and we are using their recommended contractor for the install. We had additional questions, and made an appointment and again got wonderful expertise. If you are starting the painful window process this is a great place to start. I would suggest you call in advance however as this isnt a retail location per se.
I have researched replacement windows for several months. Prices varied with other companies including installation of vinyl windows. I went to Searls Windows & Doors and met Larry Christensen. He worked tirelessly for my family and I. His first quote after sharing the name of a certified installer. We just had our phase 1 installation completed. We had a sliding patio door and 6 other sets of Integrity by Marvin Windows installed. The cost of the Phase 1 is equivalent to the cost and installation of other window insllers I received estimates from if they would have installed the same with vinyl.
We purchased windows from Searls through our contractor. The contractor hadnt used Searls before, so we had to pay for the windows with our order. Searls changed our window design because they thought it would look better. They didnt inform us of the change. We noticed the change after the windows were installed. They will not replace the windows to match what we ordered. Two of the windows were delivered without screens. After six months, we are still waiting for the screens to be delivered. If you are looking for a company that will order whatever windows they please and provide poor customer service, this is the place to go.
I contacted them twice to replace an exterior door on our home as we live right in their neighborhood. Both times they could not have been more disinterested. But yes, they do replacement doors...I guess just not for us.
Update on October 12 (see original review below this). Four days after sending an email to the owner about this in how disappointing this all is, I have had no communication from him. No i am sorry from the owner of the company that sold us the windows, no communication from Marvin Windows on setting up an appt to get this fixed even thought the part has been sitting there since Sept 30th. They have known about this problem for months and a rep was even out and looked at it but said he did not have the parts to fix it with him.All the owner has said in this situation is to thank the Marvin window rep for her follow up. What follow up??? The only reason she even emailed any of us including you is because we were following up with her for the millionth time about this. Thank us for our constant follow up for months. All of this to get a BRAND NEW window fixed. We moved in our new construction home on Nov 28th. It is almost a year and we have never gotten to use that window.ORIGINAL REVIEW: Window lock latch broke after first use. They are all so tight I know more are going to break soon. We have been waiting months to get this fixed. We have had to do 100% of the follow up ourselves, after wrong parts sent, weeks go by with no follow up. Finally after at least two months we follow up again to find out the part has been sitting there for over a week and they will try to get the tech to schedule a appt with us soon. Oh well it almost winter again so I guess we will wait until next spring to use that window.
Definitely would recommend them if you need Windows theyre really nice and its a family-owned business and I love supporting small-business so its in Joliet on the Frontage Road
I ordered a new architectural front door from Searls Windows and Doors. They informed me of options which I had not thought of and am very pleased that they did. I would recommend them to all my family and friends. Thank you for helping me.
Bought replacement windows and a patio door from Searls. They gave us a recommendation for an installer, too. Everything went smoothly. They delivered our windows and door, the installers were skilled and knowledgeable, and were very pleased with our experience.
Higher end quality windows and doors here. Great customer service.
Big Pass!
Have purchased Marvin Windows for many years for my Promar Exteriors customers. They are a fine group to work with and always helpful and supportive.
Great family business!
