These people are terrible. They tell you one price and then when the job is done and you go to pay, they charge you more. Dishonest and wont go back.

I always dread auto issues. I know it always costs more than expected, or hoped for. Plainfield Automotive was professional, courteous, patient, accommodating, highly qualified and I highly recommend them. I was impressed with the receipt from service. It is detailed like a medical report. Although, I paid more than I expected BEFORE they walked me through the cost, I will definitely go back. The only caveat would be, DO NOT FORGET LABOR COSTS, which arent mentioned on the sign outside. Those costs are parts, not labor. Honestly, I dont feel a bit bad about the pinch in my wallet because honestly, I paid over $110 for an oil change at Jiffy Lube and here I paid pennies comparatively speaking. My safety and that of my new teen driver is worth the cost, especially when they make you feel like family. Be smart, get your car checked out before it really goes bad. Thats what I did and Plainfield Automotive made it worth the expenditure! Thanks for your amazing service.

Its been a long time since Ive been there, but Im glad Tom and his wife are still there. My family moved to the Plainfield area, and at the time I had a Dodge Aries that nobody could figure out what was wrong with it. Four shops worked on it, and a local dealership actually referred me there. I remember Tom calling me to apologise that it wouldnt be ready by 5:00. He diagnosed the problem and didnt seem to have any problem fixing it, unlike the four previous places that looked at it. It was ready the next day.We were in the Plainfield area for four years, and Tom always took good care of us.

Very nice people. Couldn’t find anywhere to get me in for an oil change but when I called them they said absolutely, stop on by anytime. Will definitely be using this shop in the future!

I absolutely love Tom and Delores at Plainfield Automotive. I’ve had lots of work done there and they are fairly priced, honest, and knowledgeable. I completely trust them and the work they do. I don’t know a ton about cars, but they both explain it to me so that I understand what I’m having done and why as well as the risks if I don’t have the work done. They go above and beyond in accommodating me every time with transportation if I need it, whether a ride home or giving me a loaner. I would recommend them every time, hands down!

In 2012, my mechanic Rick Swanson closed his business. Shortly after my mini van needed some belts and a sprocket replaced. I took it to Bartels on Rt 59. I was surprised by the bill for the project. I then went to Plainfield Auto for the next needed maintenance item, and from then on, they have had my business. They do my oil changes, and any maintenance that is not dealer warranted. Brakes, battery testing and replacing. Most recently replaced belts and hoses on my Explorer. For every instance, they called, and updated me and gave me a price quote that did not change when I went to pick up the vehicle. The most recent replacement of radiator hoses, left a quandary, as the after market hoses, did not seal well. Both David and Thomas, worked on the issue to resolve it as a warranty work. I have always used a reliable mechanic, that I can develop trust with, and they trust me. I am not a relative, or even close friend. I am just a customer that wants good work, and they do good work, stand by their price and I always have safe cars to drive.

I like this place. Honest, timely and capable repair shop. Family run business is a bonus in my view. Ive taken my cars to them for a few years already and will continue to do so.

I love these guys! Very competent work and very affordable. I thought I needed a starter and was willing to pay for one and it turned out to be a loose battery connection. They fixed for free when I expected to pay $300+. Im a customer for life!

They seem very nice at first but steer clear of this place. They quote you a price for work, and charge you more when you go to pay. Then tell you they didnt tell you that price even though you wrote it down and confirmed it with the person on the phone for the final OK to do the work. When I spoke with the owner Tom about this, instead of trying to find a solution for the problem, he got defensive and confrontational. On top of that, they didnt even do a good job. They mixed up bolts when putting the car back together and didnt reinstall wires correctly. It appears there is a serious lack of communication in this business. Now I know why they always have an empty parking lot. You have been warned. SUPER unprofessional

These people are crooks! Most of the 5 star reviews are just their friends and family trying to help get their star rating back up from all their bad reviews they have gotten. If you dont believe me go here and see for yourself. They will rip you off with a smile. You have been warned.

This place sucks. I called to make an appointment to bring my car in to get fix. All the did was tell me to take it in to the dealership. And they where very rud on the phone

I would be careful going here, I left my car here because my front driver side brakes were grinding badly on my way to a wake across the street. My car needed a front brake job with a new caliper and rotor on the drivers side. I knew what It needed going in and left my car with them. This job is a brake job and should only be charged labor as such because you need to remove the Calipers to replace the pads, they charged 1 hour labor for this which would be fine. Changing the caliper at that point is removing 1 extra bolt that connects the brake line. They were going to charge an extra hour of labor to replace the caliper, this is unexceptable. I picked my car up and they charged $36 for inspection, I thought this was reasonable until I was told by the mechanic that he had not even removed the front wheel to inspect it, so I am not sure what I paid for. I would not go back and would not recommend. Nice person at the front counter was the only redeeming quality of the business.

I dont know whats going on at Plainfield Automotive but the service has gone down the toilet in the past six months. I literally just got off the phone from speaking to David. My car was dropped off last night and no one has bothered to call me all day with an update. I finally telephoned them only to be told that 1. they purchased a part to repair my car without ever calling to ask me about this extra cost, and 2. my car will be sitting in their garage until Monday because he doesnt have time to finish it today (although I literally made this appointment with Delores three weeks ago just so that I wouldnt have to rent a car). David laughed when I explained how much trouble it would be for me to rent a car tonight, that I will be paying for, especially when no one could be bothered with calling me ALL DAY.This rant is only in addition to a few other things that have occurred in the past six months. Whatever is going on there, I hope they get it figured out. Thomas is a fantastic and honest mechanic but the customer see side of things has really slipped.
