Every aspect of this service was tops. I called in the morning & a friendly guy answered. I needed an inspection. He let me know I could show up anytime that day. Arrived around 1, which coincided with the mechanics’ lunch break. The guy at the counter asked if I could return in a little while and he’d save my spot. I ran a quick errand and when I returned to the shop, he told me my timing was perfect.I’d barely been waiting when they came back (maybe 20 minutes?) to let me know my car was all done. I couldn’t believe how efficient they were.And the price was great. I’m so happy to have found a new mechanic. I felt very comfortable and cared for. Real nice guys.The location is pretty interesting under the train tracks. A corner of Philly I don’t often see.

I’ve been coming here for a while because it’s convenient but now i can’t take it anymore because all they do is overcharge people. especially if you’re a female. every time i come they always tell me one thing after another and find ways to scam you for other parts or prices. then when you ask them to explain it they have an attitude or deny what they said after you confront them about the work they did.

Im so glad this place was recommended to me. I recently moved to PA from out of state and PA gives you a short window of time to get your car registered and inspected, etc. I was able to make an appointment with 1st Rate Auto right away, and they did a full inspection of the car and put on my new license plate. It was very efficient and they were extremely friendly. I also appreciated that they took the time to summarize the results of the inspection. I dont know a lot about cars so I always leave it up to the professionals, but he took the time to explain things to me. It was also very reasonably priced. Ill definitely be going back again when I need any work on my car.

Clean, friendly, and the easy to access. Oil change with air filter replacement cost me $170 (I didnt ask for pricing so this is on me) and took around 7 hours.Would recommend to others.

These guys rock. Consistent staff time after time, and they are honest. They never to rip you off.My AC wasnt working, it was leaking in in almost part of the AC system. They did not try to sell me on a big fix. They simply said just keep recharging it, despite the leaks it would last a few seasons.

Things I am interested in: my cat, human behavior, the best restaurants in my area, wine. Things I’m not that interested in but should be: car maintenance and inspection. Picture it: recently relocated girl in Philly with an expired MA tag and no recent inspection to call her own, driving with baited breath, hoping the state troopers and PPA don’t find me. And then, I discovered 1st Rate Auto and Truck Repair. They are the heroes of my novella. Provided me with inspection and routine maintenance at a great price AND months later when my air pressure light came on, offered to check my tires and put the air in for me. They are a class act, and I’m happy they were recommended to me!!

I was disappointed. It said it was opened until 6pm. I arrived at 535pm and couldnt get my car inspection because they shut down machines at 530 so that they leave at 6pm. I wasted my time.

Dint get any work done. But impressed with their honesty. I went there to get state inspection for car with connecticut plates. told me I would end up paying twice after registering in PA and suggested me to come back after registering in PA rather than taking my money twice. Good to know there are still honest auto shops around.

I am so happy to have found 1st Rate Auto online a few years ago when I was having front end vibrations in my 89 Ford Escort. No one knew exactly what was wrong. They only knew I had an old car with original parts. Perfect for them. After replacing every front end part they could think of the vibration was still there. Joe and Ron, at 1st Rate Auto, took every care to stop my bleeding purse. They took the car on multiple test drives, thought outside the box to diagnose the problem, and made the repair. Now all vibrations are gone.The staff is knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. They all love cars are happy to help me restore mine. Joe never lets me replace a part my car doesn’t need and every service is saved to my own online history which I can view at any time. My car and I have truly found a car repair home with 1st Rate Auto. And this is the same thing every other customer says to me while waiting for their repairs to be completed. I called based on the good reviews on Yelp and they werent lying! I was able to get a same day appointment and it took half the time that I was quoted at another auto shop. Everyone was really nice and courteous! I felt like I was a part of the family! Definitely recommend going there ^_^

These guys did a great job on not only the car (needed the thermostat housing replaced) but also on me as a customer. I was greeted like a WANTED customer (many shops in the area treat you like a pest). I was given an option of coffee or tea while waiting for them to diagnose the vehicle. I was given accurate information in a timely manner and kept informed via phone call about anything related to the job.In the end they got the (not so easy) job done in just one morning and even stayed late on a Saturday to assure the job being finished. My car wasnt left with any nasty oil & grease stains, the price was very reasonable AND they saved me money on the part by getting the appropriate at a better rate than the wrong part I got from autozone.This may be the BEST auto shop I have ever experienced and had work done at. This includes the majors like Firestone and Pep Boys! They definitely hold up to their name! 1st Rate!!

They have always been reliable and reasonable, I come here for everything from an oil change to a breakdown even though I live up in Northern Liberties.Stand behind their work 100%. When I had a brake caliper they sourced and installed seize they replaced it in a timely manner completely free of charge, no questions asked. I didnt even ask for it to be replaced under warranty they just looked in their records saw that it was a part they put on and charged me nothing when I picked the car up. Great guys.

Excellent. Have been coming here for a year. They take very good care of us. They take pride in their work and you can tell they love what they do.Update: Our car was hit recently. Some damage was done to the door and to the suspension. We left it with Joe and he negotiated with the insurance company on our behalf to prevent it from being totaled. Dealing with insurance companies can intimidating if you dont know how to get what you need from them. I was glad to have Joe as an advocate.Despite bringing the cost of the repair way down to meet this requirement, these guys still did top-notch work to get it running and looking great within that budget. He even remembered to get us a refund for the wheel and the alignment which we had them do out of pocket immediately after the incident. Very good work.

Brought my new used car in. Didnt know anything about 1st rate, or the vehicle except what the dealer told me (not much). My bestie suggested I take her to 1st rate. Right from the door I felt as though they would take care of me fair and square. Thankfully it only needed normal tuning and very minor adjustments. But the guys there made me feel like my purchase was good and I was gonna be safe moving forward. Great place for ladies. Trustworthy, knowledgable, dependable. My new auto place forever!

The dudes here are the best. They dont over charge you at all, and they always tell you or directly show you what is wrong with your car. Quick work as always, and as a international student who knows nothing about cars, Id say they saved me a lot of money because they charged 150 for my roomates Saab 9-3 windshield blade link kit while another mechanic shop around my area charged us 350. They have a lot of stuff in stock, or they have reliable providers for their parts. They even got a new air box from a dealership in a day when theres only one available on ebay and its 10 dollars more than what the guys at 1st rate charged me!

Ive been coming here for years since I was young with my first car. Ive always felt safe and respected as a woman of color. This just happened to also be my partners mechanic for years too, so we both still bring our cars here (a Volvo and a Chevy truck). They can text you reminders and updates if you want.

My whole family uses First Rate and our experiences with them have been nothing but wonderful. I can call or stop by with any questions or concerns about my car and they are more than happy to help and always make time. Ron and Joe are the nicest guys and I highly recommend taking your car to them.

I first took my car here when I moved to Philadelphia (Fall of 2015) and needed to have the annual emissions/safety inspections done- Ive since taken my car here a few additional times for routine car care. This place is consistently a highly positive experience for me. The staff are always super friendly and helpful, they take the time to explain how your car is doing and if any work needs to be done, they walk you through it all. They always make sure all of my questions are answered. I have nothing but positive things to say about this shop (which is certainly unique for an auto repair place!). Keep up the good work, fellas!FYI: You can make appts during the week or do walk-in on Saturday AM. If youre really pressed for time- call ahead and find out how busy they are expected to be.UPDATE as of 06/09/2018: Ive continued taking my car here for maintenance and the occasional repair and I have nothing but great things to say. Im officially leaving Philly tomorrow, and if I could- I would pack these guys and their garage up and take them with me. :)

Was not so sure when i brought my car here, the location is a bit out of the way, but this was an awesome repair shop. Old cars water pump failed, called them at night, they were able to take care of me the next morning. The internet said the repair would cost between 346 and 515 dollars, they ended up charging me 350, right at the low end of the price range. And the speed they diagnosed and fixed the problem meant i saved myself from renting a car for the day.Repair techs were courteous, and they diagnosed the problem and estimated the cost before they started repairing it, and when I got the bill every charge was itemized and explained. Most importantly, it has been a week now and repair has held up, bottom of the car is bone dry. These guys did everything i could have asked for, so 5 stars from me.

Wonderful experience! Ron was my fiancé and Is mechanic. This was our first time going there. Ron gave an estimate of an hour for the service time and there were already a few cars ahead of us. We were expecting to be out within the next two hours but instead we were in and out within about 45 mins. The car was fixed within about 20 mins. The wait was fast, they offer free coffee while you wait and the customer service was superb! My fiancé brought the wrong card with him and they were working with us in order to pay for the service with out any hassles and were very friendly about it. I had cash on me but regardless they offered to work with us for the payment before I realized I had cash!They run an excellent auto shop. All the prices are fairly cheap, the mechanic, cashier and the other workers are all very friendly. Go there and you will not be disappointed. I went there for service based off of googles reviews and I do not regret it at all.PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get service from these guys! EXCELLENT SERVICES AND CUSTOMER SERVICE! A+++++
