Owner and the mechanic will walk u over to your car and point to u what is the problem on your car. Moreover, price wise with regards to repair charges and labor cost, Discount muffler is way cheaper and u can saved money by going in this auto shop. Fixed the flex pipe on my girlfriends FIAT 500 for WAY cheaper than I expected. Checked out their work afterwards and it looks solid! Plus the receptionist up front was super nice and understanding. Didnt patronize my girlfriend like some car shops do to women. Ill definitely be back here for all the work I cant do myself!

A Complete DisasterBrought the car in for brake inspection.After 4 days, the car being returned multiple times, and $1000 of my money - its worse then before I brought it there.Brakes are dangerous now. Pedal is very soft and low. Unsafe. They dont know how to fix it and never offered to bring it somewhere else to make it right. They just kept working on it and telling me its ok now when it never was. Lots of air in brake system they cant get out.Friendly and apologetic front office person - but unacceptable results.Obviously I wont be going back and would never recommend this place.The icing on the cake was the layers of dirt, grease and grime they left on my steering wheel (see attached photo) that my son and i had to clean up, and the guy on the front stoop smoking pot.............Well done guys.............. ( Ashley ) and her staff that I spoke with were not only some of the most intelligent individuals, but as friendly as could be.Over the past 12 years I have encountered long delays, increased prices after someone had my car on the lift, and very high dealer costs when my Toyota required service. I needed a muffler repair and by chance, drove by the shop in Palatine on Colfax Rd. by the Post Office.Roger ( my new Service tech for life! ) was working on another vehicle but immediately took a moment to put my car on the an open lift and explained what was needed. I knew my rear brakes needed work and two belts also needed to be replaced, and within moments I was told my cost by Ashley. She gave me a very fair price quote and we set up an appointment 48 hrs. later. To my surprise she offered to drive me home after dropping the car off and pick me up when it was ready, but I decided to make the 4 mile bike ride. I spoke with Ashley a couple of times before bringing my car in and she was super helpful. We determined that someone had cut the pipe and stolen the catalytic converter. Discount Muffler was able to custom shape a pipe to replace mine at a substantial discount. I would definitely come here again!!

These guys just saved me $1500 on an exhaust manifold repair. I was quoted by another shop they would have to pull the engine to replace broken manifold bolts. Discount muffler fixed them by other means. THESE GUYS ARE AWESOME! Great to have an honest shop to rely on. Will return for all my service.

I had a flexible exhaust piece that had failed on my car. Discount Muffler and Brake in Palatine gave me a very low price quote in just 15 minutes. They then completed the job in about 90 minutes. Their work, which included a little bit of fabrication/welding, looked quite professional. Im very impressed. As a side note their waiting area and bathroom is also very pleasant/clean.

Update. Right after I had the brake pads and both rotors replaced, the brakes starting whistling loudly. I took it back to them a week later as I will be leaving to Texas from Chicago for good to see what the deal was with the whistling.They checked on it and told me the whistling was happening because my wheel bearings needed to be changed. I thought it could be the brakes not having been cleaned properly or the pads were not good quality. I took their word for it as they are the “experts”.As soon as I got back to Texas, I had both wheel bearings changed. I’ve driven over a thousand miles since they have been changed and it still whistles just as loud!. Now it’s even louder. My mechanic told me that if they would have done it properly, it should have stopped whistling unless they chose cheap quality parts. Now after I spent $500 on the pads and rotor and not being able to go back to Chicago, I feel like I’m stuck with this whistling noise. It’s embarrassing when it starts whistling every time you brake!. It doesn’t do it sometimes. It’s constant and it’s very loud!.I tried emailing them and never got a response back. Now I have to pay to get it fixed again!.

Joe also brought me into the shop twice to show me exactly what the issue was and they fixed so quickly. I should have come here earlier instead of going another shop at far location. I stopped in Discount Muffler etc today for a same day appointment with a noisy exhaust leak on my car. They had the cause of the leak diagnosed and repaired in about a hour. They brought me into the shop to show me exactly what the issue was and the options for repair, and then after the work was completed to see the final repairs. Definitely will be going back here for work in the future. Its hard to find a shop that you can trust but so far so good.

I really like coming to this shop because theyre very transparent about the work that needs to get done. When I asked to see what the problem was on my car the technician gladly explained to me what the issue was and showed me exactly how the issue was cause by a bad part.Aside from functional repairs they also have great prices on oil changes.

Took my car in because my brakes were squeaking and the other Auto Center I took it to told me nothing was wrong Discount Muffler and Brake was able to detect the problem which were my drums and I had another issue which they fixed for free a couple weeks later I couldnt be happier with the service I would definitely recommend. The stafff was super nice and knowledgeable and even offered to give me a ride to someplace else while my car was being fixed. Im happy to say I found my new auto place.

Beware as they can take advantage of you. Took my car for muffler issue. Instead of doing full inspection on leak on the muffler, they replaced one at a time and charged me for rework. It costed me over $500 just to get the muffler fixed and they wanted to charge another $300. I took it to another shop and got remaining things done for $120. Just be aware, ask for quote, have them provide the quote on a paper describing what part they are going to replace including part number. I was too trusting reading good reviews. Lessons Learned.

Our daughters car need drive belts and front brakes. After getting quotes elsewhere, this company provided an expected reason price and did not demand necessary work be performed on the car. Joe even drove my wife to and from his place of business! They replaced the tie-rod (front passenger side) of which was suspect of being an issue prior to bringing the car to them.They resolved all issues within a day and our daughter has her car back with reliable operations. So glad we learned about this place!

The best place to get your muffler welded. Whatever price the guy gives you its nagotiable. So if you are good at barging you can get a sweet deal. The service is fast and their work is good. Ive used them to weld 2 mufflers for me. One was a 2006 audi s4 and a 2003 dodge caravan. Both worked out great and i have no complains. If you get a high quote just let the guy know the price is high for you and he will lower it.

My Mothers car had a loud noise in the car and we were told by Caseys Automotive that the wheel bearing part has to be replaced. I wasnt sure if it was accurate and I was referred by General Manager of Advanced Auto Parts store on Rand Rd (by Ramon) to see Roger in Discount Muffler and Brake. We went there shortly after and my Mother and I had the most positive experience there when we came. Roger not only determined the real issue of the noise in the vehicle, but also fixed other little thing in the car with no charge! My Mother and I thank Roger very much and we are definitely going to be back when we need my Mothers car (or/and mine) to be serviced! Thank you, Roger!!!

Quoted me $400 to replace expansion tank on my vehicle, said the part was $140. Called another place and they quoted me $250 for the job. Took it home unfixed. I had the OEM part to my door for $65 another $40 for the antifreezevand I replaced the tank myself in an hour. Easy procedure, Im not a mechanic, but never again for Discount. Then they charged me $30 for the antifreeze that leaked onto their garage floor and another misc cost.

Great shop and manager! My exhaust started making a horrible noise the day before I had a 500 mile drive so I stopped by here to get a diagnosis. I had my dog with me at the time and the manager let me stay in the waiting room with him. They quickly diagnosed the problem and fixed it in under 30 minutes! Since it was an easy fix, the manager fixed it no charge! He turned a highly stressful situation into a wonderful experience. Id definitely recommend this shop!

My sisters husband is good with cars and brought in my Buick which had a muffler problem. They attempted to tell him it was going to be over $400 to fix it and will need to be left overnight. He walked under the car with the mechanic and explained what he would have done, and wanted to know why it would be so much money. He backtracked and said oh I guess you are right, I would have noticed and done that though and called you. Few weeks later this muffler is louder than before bringing it in and they told us they would be responsible if we took the car there, but we never worked on that car before! I smiled and slid my receipts over the counter and said sounds like you just talked yourself into fixing my problem, didnt you? With a huff, he mumbled something, and took my keys and disappeared into the back. BUYER BEWARE.

This place is terrible. Less than a year ago these clowns had my mothers car in there be cause it stopped working. They had the car for over 2 weeks and returned it without even putting it back together all the way.We have been having to put oil in the car every 4 weeks so I started wondering just what was happening. I began to take it apart a bit tonight because a sludge of oil was on the top of the engine and splattered around the under the hood and find several loose screws. So I started digging a bit deeper. Took off the cover for the spark plugs and found two missing screws that are supposed to be holding the spark plug ignitors in.Not acceptable. $2500 dollars of work and a rental car for 2 weeks and you didnt even finish the job? Very poor work and work ethic. Do NOT go to these guys, unless its for a simple oil change, if you want to trust them with that.

Took my car here for performance exhaust welding job. Joe and CJ were very friendly and reasonable. I had to take my car multiple times due to wrong parts (which I purchased by mistake), but Joe accommodated some time to fit into the Saturday schedule to get my car done without any extra charge. Also, big props to CJ for his welding job. My bolt on exhaust system is completely welded nicely, everything lines up without any leaks. Very happy customer!

Form your own opinions.I will never ever go back here though.I just moved to palatine and thought Id give these guys a chance. I went in for a brake job and an oil change. I get a call back saying my 2011 (2 1/2 year old car) needs brand new brakes rotors and calipers on both the back brakes. Cost around 1000 dollars. I scoff. And dont want that done. They say the pin is sheered on the back right and it wont open. So its basically permanently closed ( I find this odd though cause. There wasnt any scratching unless I applied the brakes. What hes saying would imply scratching all the time. Which was not the case). I opted for just brakes rotors and oil change. 397 dollars. I get my car back and the scratching brakes are fixed! Good. On the way to work I hear this fast rubbing. It vibrating the entire car. Certainly a noise I have never heard before. I slow down and the rubbing slows down to a slow vuph vuph vuph sound and I can feel it through the steering wheel. I get off work early and head over there. I tell them. They didnt even test drive it they just pulled it into the garage and said yeah they hear something up front and point at the axle coupling and say it needs to be replaced. I tell them this sound has never been here before and the second I drive my car off your lot it starts. He says well we didnt do any work up front. Sorry man.Im not saying they did anything. But I will never go here again. Regardless of what happened Im out 400 dollars and have a car with more problems now then before I ever found this mechanic.UPDATE!!!I went to mazda and had them look at the issue. first off they said they have no idea what the other place was talking about. they looked over my tires and axle coupling twice and found nothing wrong at all. (yet this place told me they needed to be replaced) and second I remember him telling me the pin was sheered on the back right and wont open as I wrote above. He was saying when they compressed the brakes back on it wasnt working correctly. When I told mazda this the technition looked at me wide eyed and said I hope they didnt compress the brakes back on, our pins screw in.These guys have no idea what they are doing
