The manager Curtis is great! I needed quite a bit done on my car. I asked him to inspect my car along with oil change, etc. Ended up I needed more taken care of. He worked with me and I now have a updated, safe car to drive! Am a lifetime customer.

We took our VW Westfalia in for service based on reviews. It was an $800+ service which we paid and took the VW home. Two days later the problem reoccurred and we had to go back in. They then found ‘something else’ and charged another $400 with no explanation as to how it was missed and how an $800 repair became a $1200 repair a few days later. One of two things happened here, either the work was not done correctly the first time or a significant problem was overlooked the first time. Neither of those speaks well of the place.

These folks are professional and knowledgeable.Our VW was acting up and I didn’t feel satisfied with the dealership. The folks at Coastal Repair took the time to diagnose the issue, explain what was happening, what options I had for repair both now and down the road. I felt respected and treated as an intelligent human being. That itself was amazing. The repair was done and for the first time in months I didn’t need to take the car back weeks later. They won my family’s business and a lot of good word of mouth.

Really happy I was able to find another shop who has a team with integrity, professionalism, and expertise! After having to move from my previous mechanic and service manager, who I trusted unquestionably, it is a relief find a new repair shop who has exceptional customer service and great communication! My issue was not a simple one- but they worked with me until it was diagnosed and resolved-they went above and beyond the call of duty! I will certainly come back to Coastal for my all my regular maintenance and repairs!

Coastal recently performed the 100,000 mile service on my 2010 Lexus RX350. Before doing any work they accurately quoted the cost in advance. Because I had to travel at the last minute, they were kind enough to move my appointment up to the next day with very little notice. All work was done very professionally and on time. Staff is very pleasant and professional. They kept me advised throughout the process on when my car would be ready. An additional plus was their recommendations for wear items that should be addressed at the next service interval in addition to normal scheduled service actions. The work shop is very neat and organized. I definitely plan to have my vehicle serviced here in the future and have already recommended them to my friends.

Friendly front desk, quick service and great staff. We take our vehicles here and highly recommend it. They have made an exceptional effort to get to know me and my vehicle and will actually inspect and show any part that they recommend for service. After an elusive not starting issue, they spent time on the phone with me and in the shop with the vehicle gradually eliminating options until we found the cause, rather than simply charging or quoting anything it could have been. My family and I have been taking our cars to Coastal Import Repairs for more than 30 years. Matthew, Curtis and the crew know their business and wont allow a car that isnt right leave their shop! They look out for their customers and when an unexpected repair is required work with you to provide detailed explanations of what needs to be repaired, the priority of the repair, as well as options on how and when the work needs to be done. Theyve worked on new cars, old cars and antique cars for us with a consistently high standard of performance including Volvos, Mazdas, Hondas and others. 1st time visit....for sure will not be the last. Brought in a 2008 VW GTI, for service...told what I thought it needed and they confirmed some of it and suggested some other needed maintenance. In short they were kind enough to say, this can wait.... but this needs to be done now or it will cost you double in 3 months. As a business owner I have a HUGE amount of respect for this kind of communication..... they will get my business from now on! Thanks for the GREAT experience !!!!

Did a great job. Did everything I wanted them to do. They know I tinker with the car so they gave me some tips and some recommendations. Car went in on time and was ready 4 hours later. They kept me informed with any issues. One thing I really like is you have to make a reservation. I think that helps them stay on schedule.

I have been going to Coastal for over a dozen years. I have always been treated fairly and courteously, problems explained in terms that I can understand, and they have always been willing to stay with a problem until it is resolved to my satisfaction. I especially like that there is virtually no turnover with their mechanics, so the mechanic who works on my car probably worked on it last time, too, and has a big picture of its quirks and repair history.

Matthew and the fellows at Coastal Import Repair are the most courteous, most professional people you could ever hope for. They are not cheap, but as they say, you get what you pay for. Imports are not cheap to work on. Car repairs are not cheap anywhere. Expect when you buy an import that repairs will be more expensive than with domestic cars. The women who staff the front desk are likewise highly professional, knowledgable and pleasant.For domestic repairs and limited import repairs I also go to Lees Auto on 44th St in Norfolk. They are excellent but dont have all the tools to work on my import.

Service Manager Kerry provided very rude customer service; apparently the customer is always wrong to her but the other employees were professional. I have never received so much push back and attitude when requesting simple work. My inquiries about when my vehicle would be done apparently irritated her and she was very sarcastic which I find ironic considering I made an appointment a week ahead of time and they barely finished the work before closing. I was informed my vehicle was the lowest priority. Noone would stay even a minute beyond closing to allow me to pick up the car. I went out of my way to use this shop after a coworker recommended them and it was the worst experience I have had in this area. The labor rate is a premium price, just to put the cherry on top.TLDR: Do not use, front desk is rude and there is no customer accommodation.

Have been taking my vehicles here for years. Had a Toyota van from the 80s that was always giving me weird problems. They were always professional and quick about diagnosing and repairing issues. There was even a time when they admitted they couldnt do a specific repair and referred me to a competitor, knowing I would still come back for most of my repairs. I made the decision to buy a Volvo to replace my old van, knowing that I will always have a place to take it for repairs. These guys are the local Volvo experts. If you have a foreign car and think theyre always expensive to repair, think again and give these guys a call!

My wife and I have taken all of our familys vehicles to Coastal for about 10 years. Matthew and Curtis have always been forthright and honest. Recently on my Lexus the problem: the car would cut off without notice and then wouldnt start again. They kept the car for about a week, and were finally able to duplicate the problem. The best part: they lent me one of their shop cars to use while they were troubleshooting! Additionally in all our dealings with Coastal, if something came up where they knew they werent the right person for the job, they always sent me to right person who could do the work. I had an issue with my Discovery a few years ago and they sent me to Rob at Abacus Racing in Virginia Beach who specializes in Jaguars and Rovers. Coastals ability to know their limitations combined with integrity will keep my family returning as a customer.

We always get great service on our vehicles from Matthew and Crew, whether it is simply an oil change or a major engine repair.

I took my car to Coastal Import Repair for two things, my state inspection and to look at my ac/heat (neither worked). My car failed inspection because my air bag light was constantly on. However, Coastal Import Repair called my dealership and found out the sensor was still under warranty, so all I had to do was take it to them to fix it for free.For my ac/heat they said they took apart my glovebox and it kicked on out of nowhere! So no major repairs had to be done to get her back running again. Hows that for an honest car shop?!If youre in Ghent/Downtown hands down the best place to go!

I had an issue with my oil pan that called for replacement, and i took it to coastal imports. on the outside they appear professorial and kind, however in dealing with them i have come to learn the opposite is true. i am in the navy and have a very busy schedule that dosnt allow me much time to deal with personal business, after the repair i needed was done i didnt hear from them for almost a WEEK and when i did hear from them they told me i had another issue with the car that would cost another 900 dollars to simply diagnose... that was my first issue with them my second is that being in the military i am not always available to get in contact with, knowing that and calling regardless they went ahead and authorized a charge with my debit card information without telling me! now despite being assured that they would receive payment in full on the 15th, they refused to refund the money they took WITHOUT ASKING and hung up on me when i expressed how inappropriate i felt it was that they would charge my card without my authorization.

Disrespectful on the phone and in person. Asked for cost of diagnosis and got a 5 minute speech about how they dont know what is wrong yet. DUH!DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!

Coastal Imports has been a huge help with my 2001 VW. I have moved here after marrying my sailor and needed help with engine lights/diagnosing, switching to summer tires, and now fixing a broken spring. Even though I was ready to get a cab back to my home, they offered to drive me home AND bring me back when my car was done being repaired. I was so grateful, since my husband is at work and cant pick me up. They contact different dealerships and companies to find parts for a good price. The labor seems expensive sometimes, but in order to do a good job, they need time, and thus charged accordingly. But im glad they can handle my fussy VW, ill keep coming back to them now that they know my car and have records on it.

DO NOT GO TO IMPORT AUTO UNLESS YOU LIKE TO THROW AWAY MONEY!!!! I took my vehicle to Coastal Import Auto Repair and they have great customer service they do not have the skills needed to work on ANY vehicle. The quality of work is terrible. I took my BMW 335i for them to investigate an oil leak, replace the front mount intercooler and to check the breaks (break light came on). I ended up spending lots of money on unnecessary replacements. I was told I needed front rotors and new break pads in the front of the vehicle. Coastal Import Auto Repair could not reset the break light so they referred my vehicle to Eastern Autowerks. After having Eastern Autowerks (BMW only shop), they explained the issue was in the rear breaks. I tried to get my money back for the unnecessary repairs and they told me the work was already finished and I needed to pay. As far as the oil leak, they couldnt find the issue and told me I needed the valve cover gasket replaced and oil catch can (the car doesnt even have a oil catch can from BMW). I replaced the valve cover gasket with Coastal Import Auto Repair and just over 12 months later, it started to leak oil. As far as replacing the Front Mount Intercooler, Coastal Import Auto Repair did an okay job. I spent 3 weeks without my vehicle and spent back and forth trips with them. I returned my car to them several times after and their solutions were temporary. I would NEVER recommend Coastal Import to anyone, not even my worst enemies.

I have taken my foreign cars here for years and will continue to do so. They provide excellent service, accommodate you, are very caring, and are very reasonable.

These Guys are more than legit - they have saved us a lot of money and know their way around German cars. I wouldnt go anywhere else.
