I love this store. It has a great selection of Onigiri right at the entrance. I recommend the Bomb and the spam and egg flavors. More towards the back of the store they have lots of sweets, snacks, and other hot and cold foods that are really good as well. They also have a nice selection of fresh and packaged foods to cook with. The staff is friendly and helpful.
New go-to place for lunch! A wide range of prepacked lunches, as well as Brooklyn Ramen. Very reasonable priced in healthy portions. Its a Japanese grocery store as well.
I have always been a fan of Katagiri but today I stopped in to try their new sushi installation and it did not disappoint. They are on a completely new level now.
The prices are quite affordable and I love the selection of items, simple but with the essentials. Highly recommend
They have lots of variety for Japanese snacks and ingredients! You can also find kids candies, things like ramen, dumplings, and rolls too! Very good quality and prices for what you get.
Too tiny. Cant hold 2 people in an isle. At check out got no greeting or thank you. Very unfriendly. Otherwise, for the tiny space, good selection for quick shopping.
Great place to get a quick prepared hot meal for lunch. When I went there they were restocking the warming displays so the food was freshly made. It was awesome.Omusubi Gonbei found inside is also another place to get some good snacks, various rice balls with different filling each good...and the KARAAGE!I have to go back and fully explore their offerings in the convenience store area though.
Neat, compact Japanese market. Make sure to check out the rice balls at the little kiosk at the front of the store.
I was so impressed with their rice balls (onigiri) although I grew up in Japan. These make me happy always! The each tastes are deep and have harmony. I strongly recommend them. The staff are very nice too!
One of my favorite finds near Grand Central and a go-to for a quick lunch! Fantastic selection of both Asian groceries and ready to eat meals (of course having Omusubi Gonbei inside is a huge bonus!)Already raved about it to many friends and family who have themselves become fans. You wont be disappointed!
I love this place me and my girlfriend travel 2 hour from upstate New York just for the bento boxes.
I like the onigiris. The cost range is from 2.00-5.00. theyre about the size of your palm
Its a really small shop, but has a lot of awesome Japanese specialities. The snacks are so tasty. The chocolate covered macadamia nuts are so delicious.
Fresh sushi. Good quality items.
The Brooklyn Ramen stand located inside the Katagiri Japanese market. Ordered a Tonkotsu Ramen, price point with taxes included come to the$14-15 range. You have to place your order at the front register and then bring your receipt to the ramen stand for them to prepare your order. The cook works quickly and serves up a hot piping bowl of ramen within minutes. They do not allow dining indoors so I brought it right outside and found a suitable stoop to prop my bowl on. Onto the taste, the tonkotsu broth is full of flavor but perhaps a bit on the salty side. The noodles were cooked well and had a perfect mouth bite feel. The chashu was just not edible at all, the slices were a bit on the thicker side and was not tender whatsoever, it could have been because it was on the drier side. All in all you should not expect much from this small stand located inside this small Japanese market.
Excellent! Nice clean little Japanese grocery spot, very friendly staff, and the food is so delicious! The smell is so mouth watering when you walk in. Wonderful prices and just great service overall! Will definitely be seeing me again. My new go to Japanese market.
Good place to find some japanese food, drinks, snacks, seasoning, cooking ingredients. Nice and friendly staff.
The bomb onigiri is probably the best rice ball I’ve ever eaten. It had everything you could want. I wanted to buy everything in this store. Will be coming back to try all their other stuff.
A favorite place to grab lunch and special food items in the city. Very clean, very organized, with good prices!
Really yummy fresh food. Definitely will be back. Super organized and clean.
Cant believe not only how cheap but how fresh and delicious the onigiri is. Twice as large as other places and made right there. Inside the onigiri is fresh seasoned fillings, more delicious than I expected. I would like to come more often if I was near the area more. I am jealous, I have 2 japanese markets near my apartment and their onigiri is just in a plastic wrapper and half the size and costs more. This place has now spoiled me.
Amazing customer service and staff. A great way also to learn another language
Since 1907, this has been the best little Japanese grocery stores on the East coast. Terrific prepared food and lots of yummy treats at prices that cannot be beat.
Fresh food as always. Professional service. Reasonable, competitive prices.
Clean, organized with a huge selection if japanese goodiesThey have ready made meals ready to go that average around $9 dollars. Lile chicken, salmon teriyaki. They also have a sushi bar, sashimi and onigiri to goGreat place and will come again to buy my japanese products.
Wonderful! Authentic food and warm rice balls! It’s pretty cheap for authentic. Especially for New York standards. I would recommend it. They also put the labels in English so you can get an idea of what your trying.
Good open hours + good prices + good onigiri = Wonderful Breakfast = GREAT START TO A WORKDAY
This spot is awesome. Everyone should come here period. They have everything you need.
A solid choice for fresh, delicious, and affordable Japanese food
Its a grochery store with a fast delivery service.
Consistent customer service, food quality, and cleanliness. Love their hot food section on days I cant be bothered to go home and cook (all are freshly made) and they offer discounts on sushi after 7pm I believe so they can make fresh ones the next day! They have a variety of snacks in the back as well as fresh raw fish and meats. Want freshly made ramen? Right behind the counter! Lets count how many times we can find the word fresh in this comment!!
It was really cool seeing all these different foods Ive been dying to try. Its all pretty decently priced too, nothing too expensive and they have a wide variety. I bought 4 things, a banana roll large milk tea bottle, coffee can, and a cookie bag and it all came out to about 9$. Im already enjoying the tea and I cant wait to try to the coffee!!PSA this picture attached was taken in the 42nd street train station.
Omg I love this little place! Quick stop for your japanese groceries and ramen cravings!Has a rice ball Onbei onigiri corner too! Also have coffee jelly ! And their green tea isnt over 2 or 3$ like other places that have them in stock
Great and fresh onigiri selection. What really stands out, is the kind and friendly workers at both the onigiri counter and the check-out counter. Love it, it gives me incentive to come back and spend more money!
Great selection of Japanese rice balls. All delicious, but recommend going earlier in the day for most options since they make them day of.
A Japanese import/grocery store, a wide range of products reasonably priced. Heres also quite a few hot and cold food options that taste good
A wonderful little japanese shop! Filled with snacks, drinks, cooked food you wont typically find!
Good but a little chilly to eat out side
This place has the best sushi and sashimi (chirashi bowls). Great selection and prices, great selection of hot meals, and of course many Korean staples and delicacies!
Great hot food. Great grocery store selection for such a small place.
I got a rice ball today. 3 for food but 4 stars because of the price. It is a good choice if you just want something cheap to eat but it is not if you are looking for tasty stuff.
Great place to snag sashimi and other japanese staples such as ramen. Pre CoVID they had an eatery also which was great. Hope to see it back soon. Open until 9pm on weekdays.
Great prepared sushi, ramen bowls, hotpot ingredients, and all sorts of tempting Japanese packaged foods and groceries.
Excellent grocery store for Japanese and other Asian products. Prices are reasonable and produce are fresh. They also carry fresh pre-cut meats and seafood. This branch is conveniently located near Grand Central Terminal and subways.
The food is delish!
I love this store. Great selection of freshly made onigiri and other food to-go. They also have a great variety of noodles, rice, miso, seasonings, and treats.
Convenient location. Great fish.
The staff is so friendly
The best onigiri. Much better than sunrise mart. Try the eel!
Great place for shopping in terms of Japanese treats and meals for those interested.
Among my favorite japanese markets in NYC. The ready made food is a delicious affordable and Brooklyn Ramen inside is great.
I was an amazing place, a good place to get some japanese exclusive snacks and food
If You Like Japanese products you are at the right Place ! Staff are very Friendly and Helpful.the quality of The fish for Sashimi or sushi are as fresh than in Ginza ( Tokyo) too bad i had to go to Sakaya Sake Shop On 9th street Because New York Regulation The worst experience in New York :( Instead if you want a good Sake to match your sushi go to Minoru Sake shop on 23rd street you will be very welcome and the choice of Sake are Great 100 points to this storeYou will fine at Katagiri lots of products to satisfy and perform some authentic Japanese cuisine ! Bravo ! XOXO
My favorite place to buy lunch! Working in this area it is hard to find food that isn’t from a chain and makes you feel great after you eat it. The onigiri is delicious, and everything is fairly priced. Employees are also super pleasant and efficient!
Limited and too overpriced selection.
Full of japan products, hot foods, tea, meat, seafood... has small size packages and reasonable price.
Great place for lunch, sushi, Ramen and more
Great assortment of Japanese food including sushi and Ramen noodles if you want to eat. The lines are long at lunchtime but it goes pretty fast. Nice to look around there. BTW my Google map erroneously said it was on Lexington Ave.
During my stay in New York it was my favorite place to buy a snack or other delicious Japanese groceries. The staff was so friendly and helpful. No matter what questions I had. I really love this store and I sure will come back.
Nice little authentic Japanese store. Has alot of foodstuff and product and the deli is clean as far as I seen. Really very small but uses its space wisely 😉
I live near here and its a great place to stop by after a long day of school! Last year, Id come here after summer camp everyday and the people who worked at the ramen place even knew me lol. Great ramen and rice balls, also really good candy selection! I cant wait to go back when I get back home after all this corona stuff!
Great variety of snacks and lunch options
Have been shopping here for many years. For a NYker their portions for grocery (meat and veg and frozen gyozas) are just perfect to prevent fridge stuffing overkill. I would like to see better sushi and ready made food. It’s getting boring and needs variety.
Good selection but a bit expensive
Stumbled upon this place and it was the right call! It reminds me of Japan so much and the quality of food does not let you down. Instead of grand central food take a short walk over here !
Nice little store that has a variety of Japanese goods
Well priced snacks and grocery items!! Very tasty rice ball options 😋👌
Everything is pretty good here. Could use quicker checkout. Good variety of items.
Entering this konbini felt like going through a portal and being back in Japan. You can find here fresh food, warm food, pastry, frozen food, candy, noodles, drinks, theres even small restaurant inside and toilets, its like Tardis, bigger on the inside and you can get here everything your heart desires. We bought lot of stuff and will be coming back again soon!
I do my Japanese food shopping here.
Its a great Japanese grocery store. They have a lot of good products and freshly made foods. They have meat butchered in the Japanese style, not cheap but perfect for Japanese recipes. Its surprisingly affordable to shop for simple home recipe basics like enoki, bean sprouts, and tofu.
Good onigiri selection
Love this place. After visiting Japan a few years ago, this is as close as you can get to unique Japanese food.
I love coming here to grab a few snacks and quick food. The selection is very small but youll still find many japanese gems!
WOW THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. They sell many items at a great price and the staff were so kind to me :D I definitely see myself coming back and highly encourage others to go :D
Treasure Japanese grocery store! They sell a lot of prepared food like rice ball, sushi, miso soup, bento box etc. Also transitional snacks or the snacks in package. Staffs are super friendly!!!Also, there is a little ramen shop inside. You pay everything at the cashiers~
Those rice balls are amazing.
This place is amazing. All of their Japanese snacks are great. They have so many varieties of onigiris every day and theyre all delicious. They also have hot meals like ramen that they prepare fresh. Their Japanese drink selection is fantastic. They have too many goodies if you miss Japan this is the place to go. The staff is also very friendly and thankful for enjoying their wide selection. Wish this store so much success.
Omg! Awesome place to buy take away Japanese food. So fresh and delicious. Taste like Japan ❤
Very cute store with delicious fresh-made onigiri and other Japanese food.
Theres a great variety of grocery as well as fresh food options here at Katagiri. I often get onigiri for lunch or snacks. They are affordable rice balls with many different filling options including salmon, spicy tuna, ikura, shiso, ume, kombi, eel, and more. The onigiri reasonably priced for NYC and so tasty! There is also sushi and ramen available, and a microwave and eating area.
Great place to stock up on Japanese groceries and also to grab a bite. I usually go to this location to buy onigiris at Gonbei, their onigiris are delicious!
Rice balls Onigiri!!! Best in manhattan
I love this store so much, you can get all sorts of things here, pre-made food, drinks, ramen, vegetables, ice cream, ect. The only issue is that there is always a long line because there are only two registers and sometimes only one person working at them.
