Obsessed with this place. Buy their roast beans to make coffee at home - single origins that do not disappoint! The atmosphere here is also great and the interior has an awesome 70s retro vibe. They make amazing coffee in house and milk drinks like cappuccinos too. Top 3 coffee shop in the upper east side!
Super tasty coffee- the iced coffee is so well done, and goes super great with a warm summer day. The staff is super nice and the space is beautiful, open and inviting. Great job!
This place is the same as every other overpriced and aesthetically pleasing coffee shop. I guess if you drink lattes and like sitting in a cramped room after visiting the Met then this is a decent option. If you like your coffee black and are used to making your own pour-overs then go in with low expectations.
Didnt like the coffee at all!Very weak and had an odd taste! Dont think I will ever go back..
I was so glad this coffee shop exists in UES, which adds some hip BK vibes to the hood finally, and the coffee is always done right. like they make the oat flat white perfectly. the only wish is that i wish they have better pastries. i find the staffs friendly and cool too. been going here a lot during the pandemic
I had to leave quickly so I wasn’t interested in a new one but the oat milk tasted off in my latte. I just wanted to let them know and one of the baristas said that it couldn’t be because the milk was delivered yesterday. Yet all of their milk cartons were open and on top of the counter. My main complaint is that the interaction felt super patronizing and rude. I was fine with not having another one yet they didn’t even give me the benefit of the doubt of checking the milk. Food handling practices and general customer service need help.
I would give 1 star to customer service and cleanliness of the cafe. The coffee station was complete mess, I had to pull out soaked in coffee napkins get one for myself. Bathroom was so-so too.The lady behind the counter looked very uninterested in doing her job; when I asked a question she gave me a look and reluctantly answered. The whole process of ordering and paying made me feel very uncomfortable and unwanted.Coffee was extremely good! I ordered americano and it was on of the best I’ve ever tried!I also had a strawberry filled coconut sponge cake which was top notch.I feel really bad for cutting 2 stars off; but I might tried a different location; but most likely never come back to this one.
The vibes in Variety Coffee Roasters is really chill and the service is friendly. You can smell the roasted coffee bean from outside. It was crowded when we visited but the wait wasn’t bad on a Saturday afternoon. We tried their coffee and cold brew. The coffee was smooth with natural flavor, little sour and you can tell it’s good quality. For self-serving your coffee, they have choices from milk, oat milk, almond milk and soy milk without any additional charge.
A friend and I went there after a nice Sunday walk in Central Park. When we arrived there were still plenty of seats and only 10 minutes after we got our coffee the place got packed and people were waiting in line. So, the earlier you come the better your chances of finding a nice place to enjoy your drinks and snacks. They have lattes with non-dairy milk which is very good and gluten free pastries. Therere better options at a close by bakery though. My croissant was good, again Ive had better though. Overall a nice place to sit and chat with a friend over coffee - not a must go cafe though.
Literally The best coffee around! Staff are always nice and great service!
Outside chairs are in poor condition. Sat in own & it collapsed sending me to the ground. No one from the store can to see how I was. I might have to be litigious.
Just in front of a Starbucks coffee. Fair competition. We ordered 5 different coffees and in all our cups there was a special design made for us... call it childish but I loved that touch.
Great place for good coffee. Will be back
The interior is beautiful, located on a corner with floor to ceiling windows. There are about 7 tables for 2 outside on the sidewalk.
I love coffee but I don’t think I would return here.First off, they need to put lids on boiling hot coffee so you don’t burn yourself walking to the other side of the room for one! Especially in a crowded room. I mean duh learn from Starbucks.Last, rude staff that needs to sit in on a customer service briefing.Coffee not to shabby!
I like it better than Starbucks.
I am convinced that this coffee is the best in NYC, coming from Melbourne, Aus, I was really missing quality espresso coffee that was not too bitter nor watery. I got an oat milk latte and it was honestly phenomenal. Very nice staff as well!
Friendly staff, good cappuccino but not outstanding, fair price for a coffee shop in UES.
I have been to Variety multiple times and have always gotten great service. My favorite drink is the ice latte. One thing I noticed and really appreciated was the staff is super proactive about wiping down the outdoor tables after every customer.
My first time was a lively time! I AM a January Capricorn, and I was spending time with a close friend, who is a January Aquarius, and were happy to learn that this cafe closes at 9PM on a Sunday night.Their latte is delicious, and I was especially happy to find one last pastry, with a nice thick slice of pear in the center. In addition to having a variety of seating options, there is a unisex bathroom which was clean and convenient. Both my friend and I received excellent customer service, and she and I look forward to returning, either individually or collectively, as soon as possible.
Great little coffee shop. Oat milk latte was delicious and I was able to do some work on my laptop for about an hour. There are a good number of seats and tables, but it fills up fast so I didnt want to take up too much time. Good variety of clientele and friendly staff make for a nice neighborhood spot.
Pretty good coffee offered at a great price. The service is always wonderful, thanks!
The best coffee ever
There’s a dearth of good coffee shops on the UES unfortunately, so this is a welcome find. The space is open, airy, and quiet for relaxing on an afternoon. And the coffee is good- I have no complaints and totally recommend this place. There is no “wow” factor, but this place hits all the points, and try finding a better spot in the area.
Good cappuccinos.
I’ve tried a lot of things from here, so will assure you - this place is a jam!Great coffee, nice baristas, different milk choices, cute tables, variety of pastry and some other snacks to go.
The coffee and pastry was excellent
Very good coffee and cookies. Knowledgeable barista. Also great corner spot for watching the city going by. Cozy 1930s interior
This is my fave coffee spot in the city. A decent price for an oat latte $5. And the one in Chelsea is spacious for working.
It was okay. Not bad. But NYC has better coffee shop available.
Nice coffee
My coffee spot. Amazing coffee, great place to sit down and chat with friends. Only thing I really hate is that I can never find a table. They should have a rule where you have to consume 1 item per hour to sit at a table. That would probably open up some tables
Good coffee, cute ambience, nice baristas. What else do you need? Food? They have good muffins, too. Just make sure they don’t have you a whole-wheat one if you’re not a fan.
Good espesso, fair price. Beautiful interior. Good place to work, with lots of outlets
Lovely cold brew, and great place to sit for a couple hours - however poor service, just kinda tooooo relaxed
Prices are great, cups are a bit tiny for my liking. Fast wifi, chill vibe
I love love love this location. Great baristas behind the bar, amazing service! Coffee knowledge is top notch. Try a Lamington pastry paired with any of their drinks. Def. a great place to bring friends / to study and family friendly.
Was kind of bummed about this place based on the awesome reviews. Baristas weren’t very friendly and my flat white was mediocre. There were quite a bit of grounds at the bottom, leading me to believe they’re not rinsing the group head after each drink.
Great coffee and comfy seats for working. Not a great food selection. Really nice staff!
Coffee is amazing, good quality for decent pricing. This shop is super cute and aesthetically pleasing. Wifi and bathroom are available.plenty of seating options and staff is extremely friendly.
Delicious. Had a flat white, macchiato, cortado, and a mocha and they were all made to perfection. Coffee selection was single origin only. Also their molasses ginger cookie was sublime. I want to go again now to try their Brooklyn made loose leaf teas- he said their Jasmine has actual pearls. Im in!
Great pricey coffee. Cute space but there are never seats.
The coffee is absolutely amazing. I also ordered an almond cranberry muffin and it was delicious. Highly recommended!
Lovely coffee shop, great space, lots of natural light, good coffee- but the WIFI does no work :( and baristas seemed indifferent about helping to fix it
The coffee is burnt and the cafe regularly has a terrible stench.
Great coffee. Great service. Good selection of beans to take away.
Yip, decent cappuccino (flat white)
Nice server... place is pleasing to look at. Too many self absorbed lap toppers unwillling to share tables. Regular coffee very weak.
Staff was super sweet and the drinks were fantastic!
I had the ham & cheese crossaint and drip coffee, both very good. The seating can get a little tight, so you if you dont mind squeezing in next to a stranger, youre fine.
Amazing customer serviceI forgot my wallet and was only able to use applePay. Their WiFi wasn’t working And I was unable to pay so the coffee was on the house. I’ll remember this.
Great coffee and atmosphere. Love the floor to ceiling windows and sunlight flooding in. Good prices too!
Best coffee shop in the area!
Makes a pretty good mocha. Gave me my cuppa for free when I was there for only the second time, now I wish I could go here more often!
Good spot for working. nice natural light through full size window
Cute decor and nice place to charge your phone. Cold Brew was good but cappuccino missed the mark.
Incredible coffee. Incredible service. Incredible atmosphere. Best of all, Incredible prices.
Amazingly friendly people and lots of windows for people watching and getting work done. Will definitely be back!
Spacious with comfortable seating. Good coffee. WiFi. Open late.
Good coffee is hard to find in a city full of people who pay a lot for bad coffee. These guys do a flat white, and my experience was great.
Quiet, small coffee shop with a nice view of the streets of the UES. If you like people watch while you sip on delish coffee, this may be the right place for you.
Great coffee shop, reasonable prices, and fast service. Spot is medium sized, and very clean.
Cortado tasted good but a bit pricey. But good coffee in general is pricey in Manhattan
Great coffee and baked goods! Only downside, I haven’t managed to get a seat once.

The coffee is good, I just wish theyd open sooner. Theres always Starbucks across the street.
I visited on sunday evening l. What a rude, patronising and unprofessional staff ever.
Loved the ambience of this place and the staff is very friendly. Also delicious coffee and although I didn’t try them the pastries look good and I hear they come from Ceci Cela which makes tasty pastries. Great to have more good coffee on the UES.
Very nice
The espresso here is top quality and amazing
Good serious espresso at a very reasonable price. Unfortunately, served in paper cups even if youre having it on site, but that seems to be the (sub)standard for US coffee culture.
Fantastic coffee. Brilliant cold brew
Good branch of this citywide chain.
Excellent coffee and really nice interior if you plan to stay
Coffee sampled at nyc coffee festival and reviewed on our radio show and awesome!
Coffee was ok, great big windows. Small tables and crowded
The coffee was fantastic!Oat milk option available.
