Good place to do food shopping,always having a sale,every week.

This is a great place to find groceries for a reasonable price.Its a small grocery store compared to others but its manageable. During the holidays youll find many people rambling through the aisles to take advantage of the good deals.They have a separate cold room for meats and dairy. It really males a difference! The meats are fresh and many are priced fairly.The fruits and vegetables are decent. Theres a deli for the cold cuts as well.Conveniently accessed by train and bus.If youre looking for a deal to save a few dollars and have quality items then check this place out.

Good food selection. Walked from West 59th Street. There was a Western Beef @ 62nd Street & West End it closed in February 2021. Hard to find another more close by.

They have rats eating into their products. I bought 2 products and when I got back home, I noticed the bag of bread had a hole inside and there were large holes in all the pieces of bread. Then, when I opened the box of crackers, there was a hole in the packaging and bitten pieces. Nasty supermarket.

Relatively cheaper than other stores nearby but does not carry the freshest produces. Cramped aisles can be very difficult to navigate through on peak hours. Not a well maintained store.

I have exact living and Western beef on 63rd St. Was perfect shopping. I was moved when it closed. I was searching for a new location be and I forgot there by was one on 16th St in 11th Ave. Immediatly I followed very thrilled being in the new Western beef. I love the smell the meat department. But this new one I asked were is the whiting fish. Tilipia not bad, but I love whiting fish. Can you bring some in here?

This supermarket is located at one of the many junctions in NYC of TMI (Too Much Income) and TLI (Too Little Income), next to a housing project while blocks from an Apple store. It isnt a fancy place, and is often crowded. The crowds can be understood, however, when you realize it has the best prices for literally MILES around. And those are just the day-to-day prices. Factor in the frequent, and even more impressive, sales, and you will make this your go-to site for food shopping, and not just for the eponymous beef. I would estimate prices are 20-50% cheaper than almost every place in Manhattan, and beyond. Just dont go there looking for a good price on some chi chi artisanal bread or cheese. 100% whole wheat and Cotija, respectively, are the upper limit here.

Known for their low prices, they do provide that. Their house Brands (WB) are less costly than similar name brands and mostly of equal quality. Pork products are of good quality and well priced. Beef products such as higher-priced steaks are not the best quality for the value! Overall, a good shopping experience if you buy wisely.

If you are a sensitive affluent person, do not go here. Go back to Whole Foods. If you are a foodie like me, come here for Latin stuff, cheap bulk meats, varieties of Bugles you have never seen before, quart size containers of spices and the 38 degree half of the store with eggs, dairy and meats. Need to get meat in bulk for a big family gathering, or just to save money? This is probably the only affordable place in the neighborhood and worth a visit! Be sure to wear some long sleeves, as the meat and dairy products are housed in a giant refrigerated room. I guarantee that after five minutes of being in there, you will be running around as fast as you can to prevent feeling like a chilled piece of meat yourself! At least you know its definitely fresh.I dont know if it was just this most recent trip, but I noticed the ethnic meats such as goat and rabbit were surprisingly missing from the store. However they still have an excellent selection of chicken, pork, and beef cuts, as well as a smaller selection of lamb. Not much for fish beyond some frozen and salted choices (like bacalao).One other note: while I am trying to reduce my plastic use, at this store plastic bags still seem to be necessary even if you bring a fabric bag (which you have to load yourself). Why? Even though the meats are already wrapped, inevitably the juices seem to always leak out from under the bulk packaging. I hope theyll have a bag recycling option soon if they dont yet.

Staff is just fine but this place literally sucks.From the moment you walk in youll go deaf by the volume of the salsa and reaggeton they have on the radio.Its convenient as there are no many other markets around but the prices are not the cheapest and the quality leaves a lot to be desired.

Good local supermarket that has inexpensive essentials. As an avid cook my only critique is of the spices as there are no brand names. Some of the items are close to expiration so just be sure to double check any perishable items.

This is a old style supermarket. All your American favorite brands plus Latino and African-American staples. Their meats are top notch. If you are looking for collard greens or ox-tails or plantains this is the spot. The only resonable priced food market left in Chelsea, West Village neighborhoods.

I had been going to this market for over 10 years at first was on 14th st ..the employees quality its very low..I cant say all of them..also the guy that supposed to be helping customers on the veggie section knows what I know about Russian language(nothing)also chatting and laughing with the coworker and when you ask a question about the product the answer its wrong..the deli guy at 710 PM have a note that he is on the lunch brake and will coming back later...he came and said oh so sorry but Im coming back at 8pm and nobody cant do the Deli..and Im the only one and Im working since 1pm ..its not the CUSTOMER THE PRIORITY?🤬🤬..

This is the worst Supermarket ever! the prices are ridiculous. The people that work there dont know what the hell they doing. not enough cashiers and the lines are ridiculously long. its run by a bunch of teenagers. that smoke marijuana when they take a break behind the project buildings. this place should be condemned and or closed. the meat is old. the chicken is always rotten. and the place is so small you have to go outside to change your mind.

I just moved here from the Southwest, so their logo caught my eye. I thought I might find some good familiar food here and stopped in. To this day, I regret it!Gross! Their meat section is like a salmonella factory. Leaky packaging, so theres bloody juices on the shelves. Thanks Western Beef, for helping me get one step closer to being a vegetarian.The isles of the rest of the store were so narrow, you can barely get a cart in. If theres one cart in the aisle, you cant walk around it. And I only weigh 100lbs!All I ended up buying was a bag of cane sugar. And I had to wait in line forever, as people bought huge cartloads of junk. Thats not so bad (although were I come from, every grocery store has express self-checkout) except that when it was *finally* my turn, the cashier just stood there, because the lady in front of me had forgotten her credit card or something? Anyway, I waited there at least 15 minutes for it to get sorted out, and he never even apologized for the inconvenience or whatever. I know, it was only 15 minutes, but it was stupid and rude. I wish I had just walked out instead of bothering to get anything.With the Manhattan Fruit Exchange right around the corner, Im amazed anyone shops here at all.

For a store called WESTERN BEEF, it has the worst cuts of beef available in all of Chelsea.You can’t even find a basic pot roast here...EVER.. Really sad.

Horrible customer service. Every time I go in there, the staff has the worst attitudes- especially female employees who make it a habit of rolling their eyes at anyone who has a question. On two occasions, I saw an employee at the deli counter physically threaten a customer. The space is congested and not well ventilated. Just horrible and NOT worth the low prices.

I just had the worst experience at this dump. If I could give this place a minus star I would. I will never spend a cent in that den of idiots.An irate grocery bagger at this store literally ran after a customer this morning who had himself become irritated over a delivery service misunderstanding, and then after further being offered no alternative other than a stony repitition that it was too early for a delivery, an apparent store rule.The cashier was very unfriendly and unhelpful, the customer the stormed out leaving his groceries. There wasnt even a pretense at customer service. What attempt there was was abysmal at best.The aggressive employee, returned apparently complaining over doing his job, ultimately saying in Spanish: I bet it was a black man, while an Afro-Caribbean (me) stood there!He didnt realize that people who look like me are also Latino, can understand him, and find racism abhorrent. Worse... he was a dark Latino, not black, but not a white man. Just a racist; yes many Latinos are racists against blacks.I complained, and his response was that, he wasnt talking to me, and that I should mind my own business. Sorry... I call out racism whenever I see, or hear it; and this was an obvious case of that filth. This jerk should be fired.Go somewhere else! Boycott Western Beef! Trader Joes has some really good sales every day...much nicer people work there.

I have found all the food items that I need right here, so please do not ever go away. do not go around lunch time, it gets packed. Rude, nasty employees. The express counter is a joke. Every time I go there they shut it down and keep you waiting - obviously done on purpose. Have had too many problems w/their rude employees. Their low prices does not make their nastiness jutifiable. Am going to their downtown store today instead. Bound to be an improvement.

This location is a nightmare. The prices are ridiculous and the employees are rude. They make NO ALLOWANCES for the handicapped. As a matter of fact I witnessed an employee actually extort a blind customer. Instead of trying to help them stretch what little they had he put the most expensive if each item in his cart. Their meats go bad in record time. They probably add carbon-dioxide to the meats to make them look fresh. When underneath theyre brown. Unfortunately this happens to be the ONLY supermarket within walking distance of a NYCHA development so these people have no choice. This Western Beef has joined the neighborhood in gentrification. So Noone really cares. What a shame there was a time when the local supermarket was part if a neighborhood not there to extort from those that have no choice.

I always wondered what my ancestors experienced while being processed at Ellis Island. Well my questions have been finally answered! Just spend hours in this dirty, dump of a store waiting to check out along with the huddled masses just yearning to buy their paltry over-priced items and get on with their day. Incompetent management supported, by dumb as stump cashiers grindly process each customer always mindful not to rush as to break an unusually long, over-manicured finger nail. This is one business that could care less about its customers. It will be a God send once this store finally closes as it is an absolute abomination. This business should be utterly ashamed of the shoddy, rude service that it provides to the community.You Have All Been Warned!!

I returned to Western Beef on 9th-10th Avenue last Friday. Service remains virtually non-existent and the meats are suspect in terms of how long theyve been on the shelves? Chops I bought 3 days ago are already smelling bad when I took them outta the fridge to thaw out. This place is rancid.

Always have boxes in alleys and not easy for people with wheelchair to move through. And when store has a sale them items cant be found because they are outside still in boxes or they still havent come.

Great supermarket in a very expensive part of Manhattan. Cannot even consider Gristedes on 8th and 22nd any more (a half gallon of milk is up to $9 there now) So Western Beef is great! Meat and dairy selection amazing and prices better than anything in the Chelsea/ West Village area. All the reviews about angry and less than helpful employees...I dont really care what kind of look people have on their faces or even if they are not quick with a smile or a youre welcome. Who are all these people who cant grocery shop without asking for some sort of help? Its a pretty self explanatory experience. The sensitivity of these shoppers is laughable - go back to Whole Foods - you are whats wrong with this city - get a grip and grow a spine - learn proper grammar and spelling - and ignore people who are unhappy....including yourselves (the rest of us ignore you) GROW UP ANGRY WESTERN BEEF REVIEWERS!

Great prices but its pretty small and can take a while to checkout

I have lived on 15th Street since 1978 and I vividly recall all the wholesale meat markets were located on 14th St. from 9th to 10th Ave (both sides) and you had to be very careful where you were walking or else you could be knocked over by a side of beef sliding from the overhead rail to the waiting truck. The general area smelled of moldy stuff and the cobblestones were slick with tallow. Today, Beverly Hills shops open and close within three months. There is a REALLY fancy steakhouse recently opened and their prices are thru the roof. Every time I pass it, its empty of clients. Over the years, Western Beef was THE store to do your meat and dairy shopping because the price was always right. Around 2010 they moved to 16th St. and the prices have gone up by 10%. Even at that, its still the place to go AND they carry sugar-free ice cream. SOME of the customers as wide as a bus should take advantage of that.

Little crowed but everyone respecting keeping distance

I stumbled across this place randomly, I didn’t need anything, but decided to check it out anyway. I didn’t like the whole layout and some of the products didn’t have labels (not a fan of shopping without knowing the costs of what I’m buying). The fridge section was very cold so you definitely have to dress appropriately once in the area, or make it a quick trip if you know what you’re going to get. Overall, the prices were decent so I probably would go back if I’m in the area. One of my criticism- when I got on line to pay, one of the cashiers started to wipe her conveyor belt and counter. The cashier light was still on, but she paid no attention when I asked if the lane was open. She ignored me and spoke to another cashier. It was rude and inconsiderate…I took my things to another cashier.
