Very wonderful, curated selection of books both new and old. Heavily contemporary works in a sleek space. Stop in!

Is located at a corner with a pair of frighteningly large windows, the view from which goes directly back out to the street, which is semi-rural with many trees. The cost of spending ones money on books here can be balanced out with the dollar pizza place two streets away.

I saved this bookstore on my maps because I definitely need to return and get something. I saw it in passing and it had amazing books on all subjects that interest me. Anything edgy is there. Architecture, photography, furniture, weird music, art, weird philosophy, etc. Definitely saw some people trying to be cooler than the are just by standing there. It elevates you.

My go-to art bookstore recently re-opened in the airy corner front. A handsome combination of new and vintage visual books, art-movement magazines, writings and poetic works — each volume is individually protected in clear film and beautifully displayed on the shelves.

Art books, artsy books, books on art, books you feel like youd see an artist reading on the subway or maybe on their bookshelf, and if you wander where do these artists get all these cool books? ... then youre in luck! The photography and art publications are new and forward, while the various theory/philosophy sections are appropriately conservative, with a variety of classics and interesting oddities alike.

The only reason it gets any stars at all is bc the guy behind the counter was pretty nice for letting us touch every book w/o getting nasty. But he also only said bye when we left, no acknowledgement when we entered however. We understand its a book store in the middle of the universe but these guys could take 1 more step and say hi when you walk in at least.

Ive been to several bookstores while visiting the city and this was by far the best. Great selection, albeit not a huge one. I found several gently used gems for a great price. Very clean, urban feel inside with a unique art gallery above the shelves.

Amazing place. You can tell the collection they have here is truly curated (a word that gets thrown around too much now, but for Mast Books the word fits perfectly). Even the books that are clearly used are in amazing condition and many have clear dust jackets to protect them from damage.

I told the proprietor yesterday that he has the perfect bookstore for me. Its important to note that its not an average shop - the selection is highly curated - yet stunning. All killer no filler. Incredible selection of poetry, art books, music books, rare stuff, signed copies, great NYC-centric 20th century stuff - just SO GOOD. If any of that interests you (or could), please visit and spend tons of $. I know I will every time Im in the area.

Very little choice, unfortunately the service was dismissive and unpleasant. its sad when you want to ask about the book and you are treated as an intruder who disturbs with something important.

What a cool artsy little book shop off of Avenue A. I felt transported to either 2002 or 1985...I cant decipher! Nice staff and they really just let you peruse without being overly helpful but if you have questions they are so cool about it.

Extremely well-curated inventory of books, magazines, and other publications on art, music, and skateboarding (at least in terms of the set of vintage Thrashers they had in the case). Also serves as a gallery (they had a selection of collage works on display when we visited).

Great selection of, punk, post-punk, new wave, art books, zines, very warholian selection, very VERY dismissive staff, dont expect to be asked if you need help, be weary of asking questions as this seems to be an affront tantamount to cussing the staff out, if you ask about anything in the locked cabinet they will first tell you its price, then make sure you can afford it before letting you look at it, putting the cart before the horse.

The store did not open at noon, it opened at 12:15pm. It is very small, like a living room of an old house. The selection is mostly art, with some literature - Auster, Hemingway, Dostoevsky. The quality of books is mix between hard to find paperbacks and some older hardcover.
