I love New York and I love this store and the people who run it! Thank you for our visit, Roger Browning, author of The Reckoning of Rance. Available now at Amazon.
192 Books is a shop for discovery. They really know how to use their windows. Ive discovered many titles and authors just by walking by. Their author events are wonderful, intimate affairs.
Brilliant book shop! Great selection, service and staff. Just wished I live nearer.
Given all of the above, this is probably a 4-4.5 star bookstore. But then, they have no restrooms for customer use, even paying customers. I know this is a big litter filled city, but it is an inhumane policy. You can use the disgusting bathrooms at Powells, the Strand, and John King, and you should be able to here, too.
I don’t know what took me so long to walk in here. Amazing selection and a staff that also is excited about their books.
I love 192 Books because its such an interesting place. I love how it smells and just how it is. I love their selection of used and new books because theyre fairly huge + the staff pics are just awesome because you know theyre the ones that took the time to pick it.
If you want the deep dive. Quality. And if you want the ability to browse and find what you did not know you were looking for but realize your mind needed. This is the place. If you support small bookstores against the monolith and if you support curation as an intellectual skill/art. This is the place.
192 Books is a tiny slip of a bookstore in an old building, jammed with hand-picked gems. This is not a bookstore for dashing in to grab a bestseller; its a bookstore with a point of view, and it deserves a bit of study to appreciate the thoughtfulness of the selection. You can trust 192 - - it will have on hand not just any childrens book or literary novel or memoir, but something hand chosen for its originality or timelessness.
This is another little hidden gem in Carmel! Part of the 192 Books, is our very own secret garden! The name fits, it is sneakily hidden up a lush alley next to the bookstore! Take a stroll back there and you will find more little knick knacks and plants and statues and just an overall fun place to poke around! I could get lost back there for quite some time and entertain myself!!
A great independent book store that has some mainstream titles and other books from smaller presses. The employees here are nice and love books, and the vibe here is very welcoming. A great place for bookworms!
A quintessential neighborhood bookshop. I frequently find what Im looking for, and always find what I wasnt looking for. Ive discovered many wonderful authors this way.
Beautiful space! Wonderful help from the very knowledgeable and friendly Nate and Evan. My thanks to you both!
Found just the perfect gifts!!! About to go back and but some more!! Cute little store with helpful staff. If you love little bookshops, then this is a place to check out!!
192 books is a small shop in the art gallery rich part of chelsea. I have been here about 5 times and I always find a very fascinating new publication of current interpretation on modern artists. It’s my favorite book store in nyc.
Amending my five star rating, which once was only that I love this bookstore, for its inventory and that it doesnt have programmed music playing overhead. And when I bought three books today, seeing after paying that I had been charged $14 for a book with $7.50 on its back cover, I said something to the person who rang it up. He told me that the price had been changed. It was clear that I wasnt going to be refunded the $6.50. He said, Most people dont look at the prices. I dont know if he didnt intend for me to hear that. Had he not said it in my earshot I wouldnt be sharing this here.I chose to leave be the comment about people not noticing prices. I did suggest that they take time to use tiny adhesive labels and adjust prices when they do change. On principle, I wont be rushing back there.
The quintessential neighborhood book store staffed and owned by book lovers. Great author readings as well.
I love this book shop. It is my spot in Chelsea. The collection is nicely seasoned with modern and aged literature to peruse, and the owners are friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable. The place is simply adorable. It is an outrage that it currently has a 12/30 on Google. It is at minimum a 26/30.
The perfect place to spend an afternoon. You never know what you might come across. I love love love love love this bookstore.
Impeccable taste featuring works by Ritsos, Vallejo, Hilma af Klint, Rivka Galchen, Clarice Lispector. Excellently curated. I rarely find a bookstore that I genuinely like and feel understood by. You may not find all Barnes and Nobles, Amazon Bestseller type books here. There is a curation, but one for the better, emphasizing poetry and literature from translated works. There is an understated celebration for work of women as well, which is successful without being heavy handed or forceful.
Cozy, great selection, must-see for bibliophiles
Its a cute bookstore, very cozy feel to the place. Very friendly staff, talk to them if you need recommendations on books and theyre sure to find you one you like.
What a bookstore should be and, in this case, is. Eclectic selections and helpful, friendly staff.
Very cute bookstore, very cozy feel to the place. Very friendly staff, talk to them if you need recommendations on books and theyre sure to find you one you like.
So many great books. Must stop by when Im in towm
This place is a gem. You wont find everything available on amazon but you will find a really nice quality collection of books. Also they do a beautiful job gift wrapping for no charge (i think).
I dont even think the deserve one star! Rudest sales associates EVER! Not only did they not greet and acted like I wasnt even there. They acted inconvenienced when I asked to get to a book. (The sales lady was decorating a chalk board) rolled her eyes and didnt move. I left they werent getting any of my Money.
Cute bookstore, very cozy feel to the place. Very friendly staff, talk to them if you need recommendations on books and theyre sure to find you one you like
Small & intimate, the kind of bookstore readers love. great for kids to reach them to love books.
Nice small independent bookstore. Go see if you are into books.
Super cute, smaller-sized bookstore with a quality selection of books. The prices are a little expensive, however.
Beautiful little shop with a unique selection
192 Books is a small neighborhood bookstore with a wide selection of books including a corner of top rated kid books. All the books are new and the staff are friendly.
Excellent book selection here. Chelseas favorite.
