Great bookstore! Small but with lots of cool options, some good deals and very friendly staff.
Very uninviting vibe. They have a 45 minute time slot you’re allowed to sit down during, only allow laptops on version tables, and not very tasty lattes. There are also all these almost passive aggressive signs up everywhere, including behind the counter for their baristas. The barista was very nice. Will not be returning.
Lovely establishment with a broad selection of titles and the cafe is an added bonus. Only stopped in to briefly browse but looking forward to delving deeper in the future.
I really wanted to love this place. I love the idea of buying books from a real book seller rather than to me the giant online retailers. However this is a second time Ive gone to the store and received the worst customer service. You think that for an independent bookstore trying to make it they would bend over backwards to help. Both times which is probably 20% of the times Ive been in there, Ive been treated like helping me is a nuisance. They dont answer questions with a smile on their face, they seem to answer them quite begrudgingly in fact. Like I said I really wanted to love this place and its not like Im going to stop going there, but really people, your customer service should be top-notch in this day and age and with this competition.
Friendly knowledgeable staff. You will have your questions answered. Polite and love the display and coffee bar too
This is a great place to get work find with both reliable and interesting drinks and good food. But it’s also an amazing book store with very knowledgeable and helpful staff!
Great selection of books. Polite staff.
This book store is great! They offer a tom of variety in books and the staff is very intelligible about all your book needs. I highly recommend this book store!
This Shakespeare book store is acodding to your needs, they have good books organize by section AND the littler caffe is romantic. Prices are good.
Nice bookstore. Cute Cafe.
(Cafe) Very rude staff at the cafe with a very strong attitude, she did nothing wrong, just a small misunderstanding regarding my coffee order, but did not appreciate her attitude at all at handling the situation. And she loudly spoke to her friend who was not a staff there about our situation, saying that if you want an americano, this IS an americano, I dont know what she wants... loud enough the whole cafe could hear it, I felt so uncomfortable...Again, she did nothing wrong but...I would never come back again.
Id give this place more than 5 stars. The place is amazing. They are a dying breed. Bring back the books, the care, the passion, the human interaction. There is not enough. This place is great for books, for doing work, for seeing friends, food, drinks. It’s got it all. Love it.
Great selection of books and warm, personable staff. I was there today to browse and purchase and had a great conversation about interests with staffer who suggested another selection for me. Knowledge is always appreciated especially about books.
Cafe staff had no appreciation of customers. Extremely poor attitude. Not sure if the owner is aware that this, if continues, basically will chase away customers in this harsh commercial world
Great book store, well curated collection. And coffee.
Youll really love this bookstore. The survival of retail depends on creating the right atmosphere and the store nails it, theyre still getting their legs under from a service standpoint but really awesome place. Love the doughnuts, the coffee was okay... reminds me too much of Starbucks which i personally think has ruined coffee. Im really glad theyre on the uws
Very helpful staff. Was able to get birthday books for 3 different age friends here.
Such a nice addition to the neighborhood. I love their book selection and their hot chocolate. So glad they are back; I remember the old store on 81st Street.
Where else can you go in NYC where you can print your book on site? This is a great example of sustainability. Printing on demand is a great and fun feature. The stores potluck date with a book a la take a chance on me. By reading the store employees pairing of book(s) and book lover based on characteristics of the story, author, genre, etc. allows for some daring and adventure...Quintessential Matchmaking Tradition on the UWS!
Many books, cafeteria have muffins Coffee anything to choose from .tables and chairs for your convenience..easy shopping...
Great selection, knowledgeable staff.
The girl that works at the cafe is quite rude...not happy at all, and not quite good at making coffee either....
I love how there is a bookstore and cafe right around my block but the girl that works at the cafe is not nice. She was watching shows while taking my order and my coffee tasted like plain hot water. She stared at me until I left the counter so she can go back to watching her show. She gave me an unpleasant experience and I’ve been here twice already. This one is the most recent. I love this spot and everything else is great, but please don’t hire someone that makes you feel like you’re an inconvenience to them when ordering a coffee.
Great bookstore.
Lovee the ice latte, the friendly staff, and also the ambience of this place will coming back for sure
Incredible place. Had heaps of books to choose from. A very good cafe inside with a Barnes and noble feel. What made it truly unique is the self publish in printing press in store ready to be used by the next avid author with a book to bring to the world. Lovely service with a very caring set of staff members who went out of their way to make the experience very convenient.
Love this local bookshop! I pick up my coloring bokkss from here
I come here on my lunch break almost every other day and Cassandra is always there with a smile. The hospitality this place provides is phenomenal. Always my go-to.
Nice and cozy bookstore. It is indeed great to browse real books instead of looking at them on Amazon. A nice touch are the cafe (great coffee quality) and the ability to have a glass of wine while reading a book or a magazine.
Warm staff, great selection
Well curated small bookshop near Lincoln Center. The selection is fairly small, but carefully chosen. Its quiet and clean and pleasant. The book selection is just not as much to my taste as some other bookshops in the city .
Called their number and the person just hang up on me. Such rude people.
If I could give this more than 5 stars, I would. The place is amazing. They are a dying breed. Bring back the books, the care, the passion, the human interaction. There is not enough. This place is great for books, for doing work, for seeing friends, food, drinks. It’s got it all.
Picked one of my best reads of the year from their staff picks! Love the ambience and the cafe.
Really disappointed in what I thought would be a nice bookstore to visit in my neighborhood. When I went to visit with my girlfriend around the holidays, we found a nice book to give as a gift in a Secret Santa game among our friends later that evening. We saw that there was wrapping paper behind the station, and that a fellow customer was getting their books wrapped by the cashier. As we rung up our items with a different cashier, we asked if he could wrap our book (one, small book) as it was a gift. He told us that the wrapping paper was only available on the weekdays, because weekends are busy and wrapping books can hold up the line. As we looked behind us, there were 0 people in line, and the other cashier was still wrapping up the other patrons gift. Seeing the other patron get their gift wrapped, our cashier said he still cannot make an exception. In the end, we asked him to rip off a piece of wrapping paper and let us borrow tape and scissors so we can do it ourselves. He agreed to that reluctantly.Ridiculous that we even had to go through this charade. Seems like white women (the other patron) get preferential treatment at this establishment, while people of color (my girlfriend) are held to the strict rules of the store, and cannot have an exception made for them by a clueless cashier (older white male). I truly hope the store reads this review and works on treating all customers fairly and in a reasonable matter.
An selection of popular best sellers and also they can print hard to find titles on the premises. Nice seating area for coffee, tea and sweets. For every book lover.
Loved it. I’m old school and remembered the old spot when I was in junior Highschool and had to get required readings. It is much smaller but still caters to the ones in the know and the ones lost and confused. It was the holidays and they saved the book I was looking for. No hassles no problems all positive in my book. Will consider them again before going to B&N. Thanks again Shakespeare & Co. 🙏
Very small and eclectic selections
A cool little bookstore laid out well (I appreciate that its small because Im not overwhelmed by the variety of choices). Theres also a coffee bar and a book making machine! And the people working at the desk were friendly and smiling! (a rare thing in NYC retail)
Wide variety of books. Quick, friendly service. COVID-19 protocols in use.
Nice place. Friendly service. Not many tables but relaxing if its not too crowded. I really enjoyed my cortado and almond croissant. Great greeting card selection too. Didnt have time to browse books.
Its not too busy, great book selection i bought 2 books, the room where it happened by John Bolton and fortune and glory
Nice little selection of books, with cafe in same spot.
Perfect inspirational mix of creative laissez-faire and structured discipline = productivity
This is what one would consider a typical commercial bookstore. Has a little bit of everything that is popular in a well organized setting. Staff was helpful and there was ample space to browse and read any books you wanted to check out.
Brand new bookstore with up to date lighting and layout - complete with a book press in front and cafe. You feel comfortable reading here and buying. Great to see a new store opening in a busy locatuon you actually want to spend time in esp after the downsizing of Barnes and Noble.
A cute and bright bookstore that you want to spend an afternoon in. Lots of signed copies of books! Hard to resist.
This place was absolutely stunning, on top of being a book shop, it sells coffee and pastries (which are delicious) and has a nice seating area to work on your laptop or enjoy your coffee with a good book or a good friend. It is a bit small, so it might be hard to find a place to sit.I wish I remembered more about this printer that they have there (Im not from the area, I only visited during my honeymoon and we came here while on a book tour) but ask one of the store clerks about it!
The best example of the revival of the local bookstore! Great service, great selection of books and gifts and fun stuff. There is a nice cafe up front.
What a bookstore should be. Great coffee and books. They also print books if youd like to see your poetry on paper.
Local bookstore and Cafe focused on community.
Great bookstore, friendly staff and good selection
Nice variations of books
This bookstore, publish your own book and coffee bar establishment is a great addition to the neighborhood. Drawback, the seating is almost always occupied with 1 person at each table. Would be great if they had a time limit during peak hours.
Great little bookstore /cafe combo in the UWS.
Charming, with helpful staff, but those $#@!% people who camp out at the tiny cafe for hours ruin the experience. Have your latte and move on, slackers!
Great little bookstore with a nice cafe.self publishers can find a book printing system in the store available for use. Nice alternative to Barnes and Noble.
Nice spot for reading and sipping coffee, but hard to find seats sometimes
Great cafe and books! Way better than amazon
Great selection of books! Cafe has delicious coffee too.
An incredible working spot -- as of now, my favorite in the city. Highly recommended for coffee and coding or coffee and reading
Love this store. Great staff, books selections and food.
Dreamy little place to sip on your coffee and read your favorite book. There arent too many seating options though. If you find spot, hold on to it!
Great atmosphere and cool books! Great food. Seating area for kids at the back.
Fabulous place, so happy to have in our neighborhood. Cafe is fabulous with a few tables and chairs. Small but chock full.
A really lovely new bookstore - intimate but not crowded with a small cafe in front and a curated selection of books from many genres. Prices are not super competitive but I think its worth paying a little extra for this lovely brick and mortar place to stay open.
Great selection of books, plus an excellent, convivial cafe with good coffee and reasonably priced baked goods.
Cute book store if you just want a cup of coffee and wait to relax but not a huge variety
I love bpoksThis location is on the Upper West side near Lincoln Center
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great selection.
Nice bookstore where besides books you can also enjoy a snack, a coffee, a beer or a glass of wine
Lovely addition to the neighborhood. With lovely bookstore amenities. Just a little cramped.
Attentive staff and great prices on books.
One of the best theaters in Virginia, hands down.
I was really looking forward to going to this new bookstore and bought two books but had to take two stars for the following: was waiting to buy a cookie or brownie at the Cafe behind two other women when the barista announced after a few minutes that they close at 8. It was 8:05. Definitely seemed like he purposely waited because he wanted to close up and didnt want to have to serve us. Then I noticed that when I got home that something brown/sticky was in the plastic bag that my books were in and slightly stained them. Not sure what exactly it was but I wasnt eating anything that could have fallen in so Im assuming that it was in there when the cashier put the books in and didnt notice. I threw the whole bag away and I think I might have accidentally threw out the receipt so I cant exchange them. Oh well. Might try this store again in the future if different people are there.
Appreciate having a bookstore back in the neighborhood but space is tight and not all that friendly to browsers (the book kind, not the web kind). Seems in touch with its customer base -- an endless supply of new titles about Upper West Side icon Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
Great selection of books and events and readings. Some nice gift options too
Relaxing place.
Absolutely delightful. Great curation and ambiance to discover new titles.
Fun newer.older serious group not children. Wine & eats as well
Great selection of books with a cafe. Peruse, buy books then go to the cafe!!
Consistently good food and great service! 100% recommended
This place was cool, print your own books!
Awesome place to read, work, sit, drink coffee. Really nice staff as well!
A multipurpse book store with something for everyone.
Lots of books, the reading I attended was quite nice.
