They pack so much in this little store. Great products! Definitely will go again for those hard to find items.
Oh, Samovar, you are a star.Worth a trip from near or far.Find yourself transported east, load up a basket for a Russian feast.A bunch of pelmeni, one from Ukraine.Dozens of sausages, no two the same. Both hot and cold prepared food to-goconstantly restocked, so its fresh you know.Egg noodles in every shape and sizejars in Cyrillic, their contents a surprise.Honey cakes, farmers cheese, poppy seed spread.Shelves full of many types of rye bread.
I go to Samovar for all of my Russian food necessities. It has everything, including fresh deli, basic groceries, and medicine, straight from the motherland. My favorite items are black fruit teas, pickled carrots and cabbage, pelmeni (Russian dumplings), and all kinds of traditional sweets.
This our go-to spot for procuring Russian food products. The staff are friendly and helpful in navigating the store. They did a wonderful job adjusting to changes in consumer behavior.
Samovar is a great store for all my needs in terms of Russian products but they remove a lot of good products too early and sometimes do not answer my questions on why specific products got removed such as the Truffle Santa Bremor caviar or the crab rolls. But overall, the store is good and Ill continue to be a customer
A good selection of products relevant to emigrants from former USSR. I usually come out with several full bags of stuff every time i drive out here(once every 3-4 months)
Really good place for Russian food and more! I was able to buy even War and Peace by Lev Tolstoy (Russian) there!
Glad they work till 9pm! Clean and lots of fresh choose!
Came here for the hand made perogies and pelmeni, left with both plus some warm pirozhki! Lots of great items here that are hard to find elsewhere in the south bay.
My favorite place in town for Eastern European food! A good variety of all kinds of Russian food. I am especially happy about tvorog and dried fish. Very nice staff, always extremely helpful and polite. Also a lot of great Russian speaking events are hosted here, from poetry readings to concerts. If you want to buy Russian souvenirs, and even a great selection of Russian books - Samovar is a perfect place for this purpose! Thanks for reminding me about home in Silicon Valley!
Amazing store! I found Russian baby books and was so happy. Definitely coming back here. They also have some Turkish treats.
Good selection of eastern European food. Smoked sausages, dry fish, herring, breads, canned food and sweets. Also there is good selection in deli section- salads, pirozhki, soups and etc
OK place. Food store is simple.
One of the best Russian markets I have been to in the Bay Area. Excellent selection, helpful staff, and reasonable prices.
Good choice of Russian and eastern European food, and in addition to grocery (which includes cheese products, sour cream, variety of meet products, medical herbs, sweets, fish products and many other stuff) they have cooked and baked food (different kinds of soups, pilavs, salads, etc.), frozen food as well. The only thing which bothers me is price: I can get some rear imported products will be more expensive because of logistics, but some positions are overpriced.
Reliable source of Russian food in Mountain View. Passable deli.
In-house made pelmeni are exceptionally good!
I went to the store propose the owner of the store to put the tables and chair outside the store for people who wants to eat End it was comfort he even did not finish the conversation with me turn and went out very irrigant And nasty person
Helpful staff, large selection of the eastern European, central Asian foods. Sweets, deli, kitchen on side. A lot of home made fresh hot food. Always greet with smile and a joke. Highly recommend.
I was a little intimidated visiting this little market for the first time, as someone who knows very little about Russian and Eastern European food, but I received a warm welcome and an enthusiastic tour. I even got to meet and chat with the owner. The shop is packed with meats, baked goods, spices and more. The is a kitchen in the back, where they prepare food you can reheat at home, like stuffed cabbage, beet salad and piroshki.
Shuba tastes like my mom prepared it. 5 stars.
Great place to shop for European food. Frozen items, fresh salads, some prepared dishes, sweets, etc.
Bought some dumplings today for 12$ tasted awful... very disappointed- won’t come again
Great selection of Russian favorites, prepared meals and treats.
So many delicious Russian and Georgian foods and spices packed into this grocery. It reminded me of our favorite places in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. Highly recommend everything. We were so happy to find plov, piroshki and khachapuri all in one place! This busy store is well organized and stocked with the grains, spices and sauces weve been looking for.
Dope surprise to find a legit Eastern European grocer out here. Im visiting from out of state and my state from what I am aware doesnt carry any of the good stuff. They sell North Star products. Hard to find North Star in the west. Even harder to find gypsy bacon which they sell.Gypsy bacon > American grocery bacon.Im Polish. I grew up eating red borscht soup. I tend to keep low standards when I buy prepackaged foods. To my surprise the refrigerated red borscht soup is exceptional. Thats uncommon to find where the Eastern European grocery store is on cue with freshness. Soup tastes like my Grandma made it. The poppy seed roulette is on point. The Sokolow Pork kabanos, Ser Krolewski cheese, Essentuki nr. 4 is the good stuff. Not every Eastern European grocer carries those brands and when they do thats how you know the grocer is the real deal. I saw some of the comments said its mostly Russian. Nah its a mix. If youre not from Eastern Europe or accustom to the foods they will look to you as mostly Russian. If youre an American and you dont know what to buy start with the Ser Krolewski. That cheese will make you question why American made cheese is so low quality. If you like jerky get some of the Sokolow Pork Kabanos because youll finally taste Real Jerky. None of that high processed loaded with chemicals roadkill made in a secret lab you can get at REI or whatever.Concluding if youre coming from Eastern Europe, Chicago, or some other place that has lot of Eastern Europeans or want some Eastern Euro food Samovar is a solid choice.
If you are looking for European packaged products, this is your place
Very friendly and helpful staff. Lots of good food, especially the food they make in house. The owner always takes time to explain the traditional way of preparing and serving foods that we arent familiar with. I always feel welcome here.
Love this place, always a fun trip going shopping there for lunch and for other fun nostalgic European items.
They have a very good inventory of hard to find Russian & European items. Baked goods, salads, soups, as well as speciality dishes are made from scratch daily. I would highly recommend them to every one.
I love this place. I go every couple of months. They have a decent home made selection if you get early enough in the morning. I’m able to buy great imports from russia and Europe. People are friendly. Highly recommend if you are looking for something different
I was a customer here for a few years, ladys working there so nice and friendly, I always bought herring salad and bilyash. Always was good, but yesterday when I bought again herring salad and bilyash, I got poisoned, I throw up everything, I had diarrhea and it was the only thing I ate yesterday. Im not sure was it salad or bilyash. But I called today to the store to warn them, friendly, as a loyal customer, so no one is going to poisoned. But a man on the phone interrupt me and in very high tone said It is impossible, all our products are fresh and followed all the requirements. Well, everything is possible, nobody is insured and I never said you are not following requirements for the safe food. I wasnt feeling good and yet he was so rude and left me with really bad impression. Normal customer service would say thank for your feedback, well make sure everything is checked, hope you will feel better. Im living here 3 stars only because of ladys that works there really nice, and this was the first time I had a bad experience.
The best shop in the world. Great selection of food, toys and books.
Thank you, Samovar! My family is enriched through finding such a great selection of delicacies through your grocery store. While we are unable to travel during quarantine, I appreciate you for bringing Russia to us.
A relief for those that crave Slavic food. Store has a well balanced selection of Russian, Ukrainian, Polish and Baltic staples. They also make their own version of pelimeni on site. Ive tried the beef version which was very much on point. Additionally, during the stress of a pandemic cash payments were accepted with a 10% discount to the patrons. That was a nice overall saving on orders >$50. Will definitely keep coming back!
One of the very few Russian groceries in the area. Has pretty much everything youd expect it to have, no complaints. Charming people working there.
Great place to buy Russian and European cuisines and delicious imports from Russia.I love their pastries and meats so yummy! Very friendly owner and staff to serve you !
Hows good Russian food pirogi with beef and onion chopped is very good sold for 1.50. Also sell zephyr Russian jello. they also have good Russian 🍫 such as inspiration and bubble chocolate. Overall this is a great Russian store with homemade Russian food
They have vareniki and a lot of other Russian specialties.
Great place to rent a room for a banquet or private party in the backroom of the store with separate entrance. The store front itself is modest and nondescript. Borscht soup can be ordered to go or to eat on the spot. A very small shop located on a corner street close to The Midwife and the Baker bread company.
Always great service, very friendly and fresh products
Russian store & deli
Good store with good selection of Russian groceries, some basic medicines, books and magazins.
Post soviet products are the best.
The potato salad! Addicted. The beet salad is yummy too but some may find the garlic a bit strong.I enjoyed the beef tongue. My friends go-to for a specific type of Georgian mineral water. Also love some of the fresh pastries and all the honey cake choices. Owner is super nice.
The store is very well stocked - they are now prepared for Easter - and the owner is very nice and helpful. He knows the producers, knows which items were shipped from which country and makes you feel very welcome. I will definitely return!
Good selection of otherwise impossible to find foreign foods. Not well displayed. Place is narrow and a bit inconvenient to walk around. They give a 10% discount on orders $50+ if paying in cash.
Wow what a gem. Now that milkpail is closed this is my new go to place for poppy seeds, European bread, tea. They have really good homemade liver pate
Great eastern-European store, makes you feel like home! Great selection of products and people are always helpful.
Russian food, caviar, drinks
Good store
Bought a bunch of Russian groceries here and tried the prepared food. Herring and beet salad tastes great- was freshly prepared and was delicious.
Nice store full of Russian and east European goodies, if thats what youre looking for.
I love Samovar! Its the best Russian food store.
Good Russian food at Bay Area prices. Do not come here if you just came from Russia - 4x pricing for basic stuff is normal. Other than that, all good.
Ive only had that catered food from here, but its delicious! The rice dishes are all awesome, and they do some delicious dumpling with potatoes in them, too. (Not a great place for a light meal.) The guy that delivered was very friendly, too, and happy to explain the dishes to the crowd.
Nice selection. Great customer service
Good selection of Russian/Eastern European food staples and wonderful home-made salads and appetizers. Can be a bit pricey compared to alternatives but is well worth it.
Loads of Russian, Polish and Lithuanian items you cant just find in the US easily. Incredibly friendly staff. Despite the description that Google gives you though, they have no produce. Exclusively packaged products and dry goods like pastries.
Great choice of Russian food. Very welcoming owners. Try it and you will get high mood for the rest of your day.
Taste of home far from home! Thank you!
Costumer service 😭
Very authentic Eastern European grocery store, complete with staff speaking to each other in a Slavic language. They stock smoked fish, cheeses, cured meats (including genuine Sokołów-brand krakowska sausage imported from Poland, same as you can get in the Old Country), confectionery, even books in Russian.
Found everything, including nice Happy Birthday card! Kvas is very good ( Золотая Бочка).
Great tasting food thats hard to find.
Not a fan of this store. Ive been there twice, and on both occasions some weird misfortune happened.First time I bought some Russian curd, but the package had a hole in it, which I discovered only at home. So I had to throw it to the garbage bin.Next time I came to buy an authentic Kiev cake. I couldnt find the cake I was looking for, so I had to browse other cakes they had. To my surprise, about half of them did not have any expiration date. At all. None. When I asked about that, the sales person made big rounds eyes at me: Why do you need an expiration date?, she said, The pastry is very fresh, I promise! The cakes are good, so they dont stale. I ended up buying one cake, though, it was OK.Bottom line, I cant trust this store.
Original Russian food! In fact, Im Russian and its really tasty!
Great place for fresh borscht and lamb rice pilaf Samarkand style.
Kind of expensive. came from La the prices there are much lower
Everyone at the store are super friendly! ! Yummy borscht soup! Great selection of products
Nice European store. No alcohol, a bit expensive (but what isnt in the Bay Area), friendly staff.
Samovar is unlike any other store. It looks to be a Russian and Eastern European food haven that houses pre-packaged and homemade treats from that region. This includes sausages and cured meats, cheeses, desserts, pickled foods, and much more.Im sure to some this store deserves 5-stars, but I can only give three because I have no idea how to gauge the quantity or quality of the products. From an outsiders perspective, it looks a little shady at first, but the breadth and specificity of products carried is amazing. It could use a cleaner, less warehouse approach to shelving products, but it doesnt detract much from the store itself.
All in one 🙄✌️👍
Great Russian store. Tasty authentic Russian food with Azerbaijan influence (unique and great tasting), good conversation with owner
My favorite place to buy Russian books. Also, nice European grocery.
Good food
Great store . Variety of products for every taste! Great service.
Friendly helpers. Great place to buy Russian supplies
Lots of authentic Russian food - caviar, smoked salmon, pickled tomatoes, buckwheat. Nice bakery with pies.
Looks really shady, but youll find a great selection of Russian treats.
They seem to have a decent variety. Ive been there a few times, and the staff are always nice.
Great place for various foreign (mostly Russian) food. Do yourself a favor and make sure to try some Plov.
Good place to get European groceries. Prices are on the high side though.. I guess bc it is next to Google.
I come here to buy medicines and russian buckwheat. Customer care is also nice but sometimes they look rude. But i think it is russian traditional way of dealing with people. But i know in heart they are very kind.
Anything youd want to find from the countries of former USSR and beyond. Their catering is fantastic as well.
Great selection of products
Not only Russian grocery and deli, but also a nice cultural hub. Many events with visiting Russian artists, writers, personalities.
Somewhat expensive, but the only place to find food from Russia. Very well located. Nice people, but just a bit expensive.
Love this store! Although not big, it provides every item a russian (and not only) stomach can dream of.
Love this place ❤️.
Good selection of European food, fair prices.
