Even though I bought the car from Sonora Ford/Subaru, CarMax made me a much better offer. Sonora said, CarMax is overpaying. CarMax paid what they had offered, completed all of the necessary paperwork, and got us on our way in less than an hour. We were impressed and grateful.

If I could, I would give minus star.I purchased a car, fully equipped from CarMax on October 2, 2021.I didnt need the navigation system until two days after I drove off the facility. I called and left a message for Michael (sales rep) who asked me to bring the vehicle to fix it right away (I have the exchange text messages). I brought the car in just to find out that no appointment was made. I was going to return the car but I couldnt get anyone to pick me up, so I drove off.Overnight I thought on exchanging the car and initiated the transfer with Edgar Martinez who promised he would inspect the other car himself at arrival and keep me posted. Six days passed and he never called me so I did call. I called for days leaving messages without returned call so I asked to speak with a manager and spoke with Michael. I explained to him everything and told me that the car was waiting on some paperwork and I would have it in a couple of days. Nobody called in a couple of days so I called again and spoke with another manager, Tom. I explained to Tom all over again who kept saying unfortunately but never helped in any way until he asked me what could he do to make it up to me. I told him that I needed him to extend the 30 days until the car that was transferred got fixed. He said he would speak with his supervisor and promised to get back to me, well, he didnt.So I called yet again, spoke with Michael (supervisor), who didnt help in any way and said that I needed to return a car and rent a car until I buy another.It is been almost 30 days. During those days I have been kept in the dark. I dont see why I should take time off work for appointments to fix a car that isnt what was advertised. If two cars in a row arent what carmax has listed, what guarantee do I have that any other car will be up to standard.All I asked them, was for them to extend the 30 days return policy, or provide a loaner until one of the two cars was fixed. My daughter bought a car 🚗 and we were very happy with the selection. The only issue was some of the vehicles she liked were in contract. Use your phone to scan a code on the sticker and see if that car is available.Another thing I noticed, compared to other car lots youre not being chased around by high pressure sales people. We actually had the chance to look around then get set up with sales staff when we were ready.

Bought a 2018 Toyota Tacoma and the buying process was fairly straightforward and easy. Decided to return the car a week later, because it just wasnt the right fit. They made the returning process just as easy as the buying process. Refunded me the down payment in the spot didnt have to wait for them to mail me a check. Would definitely recommend dealer to anyone. Kevin the sales associate was great.

I called to get a vehicle which I talked to one of the call center workers and she told me I can get any vehicle and depending on where it is I could pay a transfer fee. So my husband and I talked it over for a couple of days and we found a van that we liked. I called and the next person I talked to was not nice at all she said we couldnt transfer the van we wanted because it was something wrong with the VIN number so we would have to drive there to get the car. So my husband called the Modesto Carmax and they told us we could pay the transfer fee and transfer the car to their store. If I wouldnt have called back my experience would have been a bad one. But I did want that van and everyone after that first lady were super nice and helpful. We got the van we wanted and love it. Thanks Carmax!!!

For the corporate CarMax top chief I really wish you guys had a better detail department for the amount of money we pay for this cars and trucks the cleaning is very very lousy other than that no complaints.

My experience was pleasant. I sold my car to them and I feltthey gave me a fair offer. It was easy and smooth. It take longat all about 45 minutes for an appraisal and its good for sevendays. Then about 45 minutes when I came back to sell it.With all the paperwork work and check for my vehicle. I didnt haveto bother with strangers or missed appointments. I purchased my previous car @ Modesto CarMax a few years ago and loved the process so of course I didn’t hesitate to go back to purchase another car there. I found the car I wanted to test drive online abut it was at CarMax in Roseville. I requested it be transferred to Modesto to test drive. I made the request on a Sunday and process went smoothly, without issue. By the following Saturday I was able to test drive the car, fell in love with it and took it home same day. The salesperson was very nice and knowledgeable. She answered all of our questions without hesitation. I gave my visit 4 stars because although the transfer and sale of the car went quick and smoothly, we had to wait for the business office for over an hour. I believe it’s because they were busy buying cars from others that were there. That in no way will make me go to another dealership...CarMax is a great place to purchase a new car!

If they dont have What you are looking for on the lot, they can check their other locations, put a car on hold & make you an appointment to go see the car or they can have the car brought to that location so you can come back & see it. I purchased my car from Carmax in Modesto California, and I have some service repairs that needed on there and I called in and spoke with someone and her name was Ruby Perez she went above and beyond her duties to make sure I was taking care of that my car was brought in for servicing and that I received a loaner to be able to get around in until my car was fixed. Ruby was very polite very knowledgeable into knowing what to do to get the job done to get my car taken care of,,Ruby also was on time with everything she was just on point and when I finally got to meet Ruby face-to-face she had a warm open heart with a bright smile and great Carnax service was highly received from her and thank you Ruby for your great help.

We made an appointment the day before to check out an SUV for my sister. They were pretty busy and running a little late but it gave us some time to walk around the lot and see what else they had available. Sonya, our sales person, was very friendly and patient with us while we decided the best way to proceed. The process did take a while to complete but Im sure our debating over financing helped elongate that process. Jamal in contract signing was also great and really tried to liven up the process. Overall we had a great experience and would recommend checking them out, especially with an appointment.

Our whole experience was extremely positive. Only negative was that my car usb needs repair and so have to return it for repair and also they could have cleaned interior of vehicle better. Small spash spots on ceiling all the way from front to rear of car. But it was dark out. I did not even see them myself til next day. Also they had removed carmaxLogo sticker from rear of car and left sticky residue all over where it was. Should have left it. Nit picky stuff but for 20k I expect the very best attention to detail. Still I would and always will recommend carmax to friends.

This is the fourth vehicle I have purchased through CarMax. The prices are usually high, but if you find what you like and check Blue Book and its a good deal, go for it. The experience is usually easy. With this purchase, I ran into a little problem. I saw the vehicle I liked online, but I had to transfer it to my local store which cost $99. I went to test drive and at the end of the test drive, I told the sales rep that I would like to purchase and the deal was a go. We filled out the paper work (all electronic) and stated I would like to arrange for home delivery. Rep said no problem, they would call to schedule. I didnt hear anything for about a day and a half. I decided to call, but I kept getting reps voicemail. After trying daily for 3 days and getting no answer, I called the general number. The customer service rep couldnt find the paper work and said the car was on hold for another customer. I went straight to the dealership and after a short while of nobody being able to figure out what was going on, the sales manager just put it back in my name and we worked it out. I did end up with the vehicle, but was a little dismayed about the confusion. I will chalk some of it up to their new procedures they had to implement due to COVID and there are bugs to work out, but my initial rep also seemed a little distracted and in retrospect, a little bug was whispering in my ear that the deal might have trouble. Anyway, stay on them like glue, but otherwise everyone was nice and tried to be very helpful.

We wanted to sell our vehicle to Carmax and had some situations that occurred not with them, but with our registration and finance/lienholder company. Unbeknownst to us the lien had not been done properly with DMV and Vicky at the business office was extremely helpful in explaining everything, and offering all the options and alternatives she could think of to help us. I cannot say enough how helpful and patient she was with everything, a golden star employee! I had also spoken with Steve, the manager, prior and after this came up and he was just as patient and helpful. And when finalizing the paperwork Claudia was yet another employee who was just as helpful. We dont need a car now but the next time we do, we will not hesitate to go see them. Thank you all!

First of all, I was not happy waiting four hours to have my car financed. There was only one person in the finance department and quite a few people were waiting for their purchases to be processed. Believe me, I was definitely not happy about that!Secondly, I love my Fiesta. A manual DID NOT come with the car, as Im sure thats the same issue with most of the other cars. Why cant Carmax order the books for the cars not having them? I live in Sonora and I did order the manual. Now Im going to have to drive back to Modesto to show the receipt from the manual i ordered to get a refund. Why cant I scan the receipt and take pictures of the manual So much easier.As stated, I love my car! Now lets hope nothing goes wrong with it!

It was amazing! So easy! I first sold them my Toyota Tacoma Truck, I also got a quote for my Kia Sorrento. I ordered a Hyundai Kona that I was interested in looking at, it arrived and I was able to sell them my Kia and walked out with my purchase of the Kona. The next day I went in and paid it off. I bought a mustang from CarMax, the process took awhile due to them being busy on a Friday. thats understandable. at the end when i finally got the paperwork for my car they took a whole hour to bring me my car so i can leave. it was cold outside and i was getting tired. what really tripped me out was when i cleaned the inside of the car myself i noticed a lot of stains and i found trash under my seats. i even found cigarettes under my passenger seat. CarMax did a good job servicing me but they should make sure they detail the car good enough to not leave stains or trash. i know its a used car but be professional at least. otherwise they did a good job.

If I could give zero stars I absolutely would. I bought a new car and didn’t even have it for ten days before there were major issues with it. CarMax said so worries we will get you a rental but nobody can even look at it for three weeks. The first rental was all stained on the inside, the second rental again didn’t last ten days before the check engine light came on and now I’m on my third rental until god knows when. I’m now being told the mechanic “working” on my car will work on it “in his down time”. I’m expected to make my first car payment before even having my car for two weeks. They also have absolutely no idea when my car will be done or what the issue is. I would NEVER recommend CarMax to anyone who wants a working vehicle. Beyond disappointed and frustrated with this entire process of buying a new car when it should be something so fun and exciting.

When I arrived at the Modesto location for my scheduled test drive I was informed that things were running late due to staff shortages, and I would have to wait at least an hour before it could begin. Returning an hour and fifteen minutes later, I was further delayed by thirty minutes because no-one could find the car. My confidence in the ability of CarMax to sell me a care was quite low. However, my salesperson Sebastian was very courteous and apologized for the delays. He answered all of my questions, and noted a few defects that I needed repaired. I was contacted by Juliana from Service on Monday to schedule a visit. When I arrived she explained the process very well, and was back in an hour to arrange another day for the repairs. I was given a clean late model Honda as a loaner for a few days during the repairs, which were completed in the time that she had advised me. Overall the team members I dealt with were friendly and helpful, the car looks great and runs well.

I had a very unpleasant experience with the Modesto branch sales business office. I booked an Audi a6 2017 car for a test drive on the weekend. We as a family(4-month-old baby and 7 years boy) drove from Fremont CA to Modesto CA(almost 80 miles away from Fremont) to see the car and plan to buy it. At the first sight, I was impressed and excited to see the car and do a test drive. After a test drive, we liked the car, then informed the salesperson that I have interested to buy the car and ask for the next steps. The salesperson has gone over all the proceedings and gave purchase order documents with his and my signs to get the loan from another bank because CarMaxs interest rate was too high; he said that he will hold that car until 3 days and asked me to confirm on 3rd day.On the 3rd day, I got the loan approval and had contacted him, he said, he sold to someone else. I felt really bad about the way they treated me over the phone and was disappointed and behaved unprofessional way. I didnt expect this unprofessionalism from such a reputed car dealer in the US.

This is fhe 2nd car my family buys from Carmax. I got my Mustang here and I recommended them to my sister who bought my mom this cute little electric Nissan Leaf. She feel in love with her little car and its perfect for her needs. The gentleman that helped us really listened to what we wanted and delivered without pressuring us one bit. While their tranfer process was a disappointment, he helped us pick something else out and the purchase procress was easy. Paperwork takes a little while but thats to be expected on large purchases. I will always look to Carmax first when I buy a car, they are fair and helpful and make it easy. Love Modesto Carmax!

Horrible place for auto dealership. They advertise a lot about their service, best hassle free buying and trading in the vehicles. Forst, when we bought the vehicle, the price was the HIGHEST of any dealership and then, the transfer fees and other services they mandate to buy with the vehicle. Second, their trade-in inspection took two hours, even though we had an appointment for early morning. Lastly, their trade-in price is low than anyone, not enough close to Kelly Blue Book. NEVER going there under any circumstances.

Started the car searching process through the CarMax app, did the pre-approval, was contacted soon after. I did tons of research before, so I already knew exactly what I wanted and how this would work. Either way, everyone I spoke to was extremely helpful. When I arrived at this store, Peter helped me with the first portion of my paperwork, and Miriam from the business office took care of the rest - both were really nice and answered all questions I had. Great customer service, Im really glad I came here. CarMax definitely made my first Auto Financing experience a great one!

Good thing I bought a car before coming to Carmax. Something has to bother me enough to write a review and this place did it... First was the wait, I scheduled an appointment at 2:00pm. Went in at 1:45pm, told I was going to be helped shortly.. 3:00pm later I was being helped, just to do an inspection on the car. Then they said paperwork will be done shortly after. 7pm..8m... 3 people that didnt have appointments came and went before i even saw paperwork. I was finally done at 9pm...The next issue was the check.. cool I got a check for my car but I dont have a bank account so I cant cash it or deposit it. I asked if they can make it out to my husband and they said no. Only the person on the title gets the check in thier name only confused why if Im asking to put the check in my husbands name why they couldnt. Now I have a useless check and no car.

That said, a few of our adult children have purchased vehicles from CarMax over the last few years and have come away not only unscarred by the experience, but actually happy. This past January we purchased my husbands truck from CarMax. We had it shipped from Texas to our store. The experience with these folks was unbelievable! Courteous, no pressure, patient and caring. They presented him with his shiny new truck with the bow and all. It gives the whole experience a bit of a celebratory feeling. Thank you CarMax! Most of my experience was fine with the following exceptions:1. As I had to wait in outdoors in sort of tented areas and it was very cold, some heaters would have been greatly appreciated.2. The car I had transported was there but it was not marked as reserved for me. This caused a little confusion.3. Filling out paperwork and signing with a mouse was very difficult on a computer screen. I prefer doing this the old fashion way on paper. Reading fine print on a computer screen is nearly impossible.

I had to have a car transferred from Colorado to Modesto they indicated it would take three weeks to transfer the vehicle which was not a problem. However once the car was in Modesto the process has slowed considerably. After numerous phone calls with for updates I was able to connect with somebody that could give me a a timeline I want the car would be ready to be picked up. Aside from the extended time lag the vehicle was in excellent condition and has been prepped very well for sale on all I was pleased with the purchase. Not extremely pleased with the personal service.

My wife was not really sure what vehicle she wanted and Moe did not show any sign of frustration, he just ask her the right questions and got her into a car she is extremely happy with. Since we got the car on Saturday, we were unable to go through our credit union. As soon as we were able, we financed it through our credit union. It was the third day and without any static carmax dealt with us with pure professionalism. Thank all of you for a wonderful experience.

The information showed 2 key remotes and only 1 was given with 1 key. The salesman was constantly going to the back. It was over 103 degrees outside and when we came inside he didnt even offer us water or tell us where the vending machine was and he only had the fan on himself (he hadnt been outside) I referred my son to Fresno Carmax and it was 100 degrees outside and the salesman brought water to all 3 of us and he was outside with us.

This was an amazing experience! We got a great deal on an amazing car. Andrew was great, He interacted with our kids, and he was constantly running around helping so many people. But it was in our lulls where we were waiting for financing or paperwork. It was such a great Day!

If I could give negative stars and tell anyone who wants to purchase through carmax please dont. Buying a car and jumping through the hoops to get documents and everything you need in this process can be overwhelming. Especially now during the no contact procedure due to covid. Not to mention everyone is struggling financially. I was fortunie to be able to put a down payment down, I need through carmax requirements was allowed to take home the car then out of no where they said nope sorry we cant help you and all your nonrefundable payments well they are nonrefundable. I walked out if there in tears. Their reason was very unclear and I was basically turned awAy after even signing papers and being approved and financed with insurance and for some reason they sent me away . Now Ill lose my way to work probably lose my job, and my family will starve because of not having a vehicle to do what I need to do to provide for my family so please dont buy from carmax .
