Heads up just got some work done on my truck D in D transmission shop at D&d65 Cook Ave Meriden ct. I do not recommend this place for on anybody they never did the work that we agree work is not done they won’t except checks they took my money after he took my money $1300 that we agree on before the start of the work t they. keep asking for more money what a bad experience what a bad business people I don’t recommend this place for anybody they lie and manipulate . No credit card payment no checks only cash go figure
Very nice people they explain everything before its done prices are reasonable
This is probably the least professional shop ive ever dealt with. I could go on all day but ill just highlight some things. So you know the shop is bad when youre able to diagnose your car better than the owner. I was able to take it home and diagnose my own issue in 20 minutes. Vs the answer i got from the owner after having my car for 4 to 5 days. Im not sure whats going on but i think you have a bad clutch and suspension ill take a look and call you tomorrow (they never called by the way) what a joke. The clutch has 25k miles on it and it quality performance part. No clutch goes bad in 25k miles of normal driving and the rear main seal of the engine is fine so the friction surfaces are not covered in oil. Clutch pressure is fine maybe a little low but very operational. All i had to do to determine my issue was use a breaker bar as a stethoscope on my gearbox while it was in gear and noticed no bad noises. So its a passenger side wheel bearing thats bad and a sway bar end link. Need some lower ball joints too. Like i said i determined this all within 15 minutes myself at home. Now all he told me was i have suspension issues that i know of and i will do that work myself since its easy and doesnt require and engine support beam, a transmission jack, etc. So while i at the time had a decent feeling my gearbox was operating fine the owner did not do a good job to clarify that he knew exactly what was wrong with it. Gave the very vague answer of suspension issues clutch you can smell it. Lies.. So while i had a feeling my gearbox was operating fine i still knew it was in rough condition as i told the owner the history of the gearbox(leaked fluid from seals for months lots of metal on magnetic drain plug) i told them to just go ahead and start changing the transmission as this is acting as preventive maintenance. While the gearbox may be operating fine now, i know the internal bearings and gears and synchos are wore down and wanted to replace it regardless. So they refused to do that work (which is fine he didnt even know how to remove my key from my cars ignition so do i really trust him to even follow the cars maintenance manuals 53 or so steps following axial clearances utilizing shims when necessary etc? No i didnt) i think lack of communication really was bad too he never made clear me to he understood the issues. From my perspective he still wasnt sure the specific issues.I Guess when youve worked on your own specific model car for nearly a decade anyone other than an expert will look inept to me. Only the pros from now on stay away from this place.************* As an edit to the owners response since i cant seem to do it. I told you i was aware it was most likely not the gear box but i wasnt the one who had done a diagnosis at this point HE WAS. I was speculating vs him who looked at the car i told him that i wanted the thing changed anyways regardless if it was operational. (Never mentioned it wasnt in my budget) I said i can do the suspension work myself i never asked him to warranty the work on it or make the car road worthy. Like i said communication issues. I also, as he mentioned told him my budget around 1900$. When i asked him (numerous times) if he could make the job happen with my budget it was always the oh gee i dont know i finally just told him ill pick it up and work on it myself as this is definitely the worst communication from an adult ive ever seen. It may be far for some people but MIKES AUTO in haddam is the way to go. OH i almost forgot how could i? So you just said my car has no issuea shifting RIGHT? So then why did you try to tell me originally its a clutch issue and that you can smell it thats severely misdiagnosed. You call this place professional? stay stay away! They say the repairs would cost me more than 1900$ but to change a transmisson on my car takes around 6 hours of labor and maybe an hour to bleed the clutch and top fluids off etc. Lets be generous and apply a 100 hour rate. So 7×100 is 700$ as far as im concerned i had plenty of money he just didnt want to do the job.
David is AMAZING & truly cares about helping people! I was so amazed by how quick he was able to get my car on the lift & take a look. He isnt one to make your wallet empty. I will definitely be going to David for all other mechanical issues. Thank you so much.
Awesome experience...owner was called away for emergency...came back 20mins late for my appointment...DID IT FOR FREE! CAR RUNS GREAT TOO!! DEFINITELY TELLING OTHERS....
Dave and his wife were very friendly. I came in to inquire about a service to my Mercedes which Dave was very knowledgeable about. He spent time explaining the issue and talked me through what he wanted to do. His prices were also reasonable next to the dealership. I would 100% recommend taking your car here. I’ll for sure be back thanks
Rude, they Don’t take your concerns seriously when clearly something is wrong! Such a shame! Definitely would NOT recommend. Took my car else where to get what I needed fixed, done!
Great customer service, did a great job rebuilding my Transmission on my 04 Dodge Cummins. It was running very poor when I brought it in, Dave is awesome he knows what hes doing!
Do not go to this guy, last person I would ever recommend to someone. Hes very bad mannered and is rude while talking. Asked him for the price of a service and he wouldnt give it to me, I asked him if he could at least explain the problem that my car was having and he told me that he was wasting his time just by speaking to me because he already spoke with my son the other day.
I have waited several months to write this review. Early fall of 2019, the transmission of my 2011 Toyota Rav4, at 158k miles, was failing (there are issues with a transmission this is used in this model year). After a very thorough internet search, diagnosis at the dealer, and financial analysis, I decided to have it repaired. The work was completed in the later part of October 2019. After nearly 10k miles, all is well.About a month after the repair, Dave had me come in to check the transmission, fluid (color, smell, etc). All was well.A few months later, I had some concerns after the repair - smell of oil, noise etc. Dave and or his son, looked the vehicle, checked the fluid (good color/ no metal fines) and the transmission was fine. (The smell of oil was due to some of the lubricant used in reassembly was on the exhaust and the noise was a front wheel bearing, which I replaced myself.) At no time did I feel that Dave was disinterested in my concerns, even after the repair was done and paid for. He provides good customer service.Dave is very knowledgeable about transmissions and knew the design flaw in the transmission used in my 2011 Toyota Rav4. D & D is a family business, his wife is in the front office and one of his sons works with him in the garage.
Very proprofessional,Helpful and very honest! Highly recommend😊
So far so good. They are polite good people. Very engaged with you during your stressful time of going without or having your vehicle serviced. Very knowledgeable.Just got my car back so well see how it goes!
Worst experience ever. Do not bring anything here to get fixed. They turned a simple repair into a huge bill of $700 which I had to pay for if I wanted my car back. They took out my $300 spare with style rim and never gave back after numerous calls and stopping by. Run dont walk away from this place!!!!
My RV blew a alternator on the way back from a long trip. We were two hours from home on a Saturday and called Dave and his family for help. I appreciated there help and was moving again quickly. Thanks guys!
D and D Transmission and Auto is awesome. Dave went out of his way to locate a part for my sons car. My son says his car runs like new. Its wonderful to come across a knowledgeable mechanic who takes his time to explain the repair process with honest transparency.
We had an excellent experience here... My fiances car needed the belts changed.. It was on a sat morning we called cause we found him online and he told us to bring it right down... He was a very nice, respectable, honest.... Very family oriented and his wow runs the office an was also very very nice... He food great work and the price was no more than anyone else.. We Def going back! Customer for life
I have been a customer of DVD Transmission for over 5yrs. They have always gone above and beyond with exceptional service. I find the owners knowledgeable, courteous, and the prices fair. Each time I have come for services, my car has gotten a thorough inspection. This is why I will continue to support this establishment 😊
Great family business. Took care of my Ford Mustang and gave me all the options I needed. They arent trying to rip you off or over charge, they give you a list of all the great options to the just ok option which helps you pick based on your budget. Highly recommended!!
I had a very very positive experience with D&D.I was driving through CT when my engine began making a rattling sound. Soon the rattling turned to a terrible crunching.I was lucky enough to get off the freeway and happen upon D&D. The staff was extremely courteous, professional, and friendly. In under an hour they had fixed the detached heat shield in my car, test-driven it to ensure that the problem had indeed been fixed, and had me on my way charging only $20.I have to emphasize how welcoming and kind I found Dave and his wife to be. It was very nice meeting them.
Ledon, How do you know it was a brand new vehicle? Or even under warranty? It could have been a newer vehicle to that person not specifically a BRAND new car. Did you ask that person what year, make model of vehicle was? If so you would have known it was not a BRAND NEW vehicle. instead of cutting her off like you did, Do you even know what her problem was with her new vehicle to help assist that person? Or maybe if you asked for year make model and it was new car you could have told person if there is warranty dealer would take care of the problem for her? Says you cut her off twice. But question still remains, What is the year make model of the car and what was the issue. Number 2 things all repair shops ask when someone calls. Do you know those answers? Seems if you did not want a bad review for your shop then you should have been respectful to a potential customer calling in. I am sorry to the person who got that disrespect from someone who is suppose to be a professional. Next time someone should try to be more helpful to people calling in.
Thief, told me 85 dollars to diagnose, after hours told me 165 dollars because he spend 1 and half hours to diagnose, did not fix anything, transmission no good cost 1400 to fixed it. I just replace transmission sense for 38 dollars, work great. Damaged screw so I can not open it. Never go there. Professional cone artist .
I have been a customer for a long period of time at D&D Auto. Dave provides excellent service when needed. I sincerely recommend D&D Auto if you have any issues. This is the place to GO Dave gets the job DONE, always treated me as family. Thanks!
We have been using D & D for some time now and have always had a positive experience. Dave is very good at finding and fixing problems. He has always been very fair with us, even picking up our car(s) and returning them to us when the work is done. The office personnel, (usually his wife, but sometimes Chantell(?) are very pleasant. We would not go anywhere else for our car repairs.
Most unprofessional place I’ve ever dealt with. Scheduled an appointment for an oil change 2 weeks ago. Show up to the appointment and no doors are open. Called them and reached someone who connected to their answering machine saying he was surprised I had an appointment today and he apologized saying that no one would be in the shop today cause they were all out to New York for the day. Wasted my time and gas to arrive here directly at 8AM. Will never come back after that sense of unprofessionalism.
Dave is an expert, he knows his Audis inside and out. He explains in great detail exactly whats wrong with your vehicle and what he needs to do to fix it in Laymans Terms which I like because im not too knowledgeable when it comes to vehicles. He was able to fix my Audi Q7 back to 100% and let me tell you I had some major work done. His prices are very reasonable and im glad I had an opportunity to cross paths with him.
I snuck up on Dave rebuilding a transmission at 7am with my car smoking and misfiring. With in 3 hrs he had me back on the road as good as new. Literally the best experience I’ve ever had with a auto shop and the fairest price I’ve ever paid. I never write reviews for anything but I felt to for D&D. I couldn’t have been happier and he’s made a coustomer for life.
What can I say my husband and I would not go anywhere else. They are polite, patient, and honest. Prices are not bad and you know they are going to do the work they say.
#1 in the business. I won’t trust anyone else with my trucks. Excellent customer service and work. I would highly recommend to anybody looking for dependable work.
D&D great shop been going to whenever having car trouble for 2 years now, everyone friendly and helpful. The work done always professional and I like that they explain problem so i know what’s being done.overall great experience everytime
Very professional and efficient, great staff, made me feel comfortable with the work being done, explained everything to me and the prices are reasonable. Highly recommend!
They will help you with getting everything to work on your car
Terrible customer service over the phone, the seller hang up on me because he didnt want to answer my simple question. Rude!!!
So recently about a month ago I went to the dealership to get an oil change because why had a deal. I drive an Infiniti g35xS. They always give you a diagnosis after in detail which is really good but sometimes you can tell they somethings not right. Anyways one of the things I supposedly needed was a steering rack. So I was gonna go around asking for quotes. First I place I went was D&D per my mother’s suggestion. I went their just for a price but Dave and his wife are interesting people. I talked them for like an hour-and-a-half about caring about your car and the miscellaneous. He makes your care about your own vehicle. He brought more light to my question about my the steering rack. He drove the car because I told him I heard knocking. The man loves car. He heard it and said “yeah, that’s the sway bar links.” I also had a hose antifreeze leak. He pressurized my whole system, fix two hose leaks, my sway bar links all in one day while working on other cars. The man is more than a doctor, he’s a heart surgeon for automobiles. I haven’t heard a knock or seen a leak in almost two weeks. Most important thing - no steering rack needed.
I didnt use them. Owner couldnt give me a price for some work that needed to be done. That in itself is a turn off!!!
Great costimer service, fixed my car without any problems. Definitely recommend them to anyone that needs thier car looked at and fixed with care. Very family oriented.
Recently called to get an estimate on repair and question was asked by a worker there and I told him the problem then he laughed and went into this long scenario regarding going to auto zone and putting the code sensor on the my vehicle, laughing at a customer when they are asking you questions is very rude, unprofessional. Apparently you have all day to sit around your garage and think of some BS to tell a potential customer, and laugh about it and hang up in their face, the person that recommended your garage must have been suggesting another place because you are a very rude, arrogant, and have unprofessional business ethics.
I have been knowing them for years and keep coming back and forward, excellent jobs, very passionated, didnt expect more than what he did for my car.
I have known Dave and his wife for years and very surprised by his bad business practice. Called to ask Dave about ONE of the items he listed on my diagnostic check, he had no answer. Wanted to know which converter was damaged? Dave listed the catalyic converter as if he checked it but didnt. Then charged me $158.20. This is why my late father told me to stand up in the garage and watch the mechanic like he use to. I paid the price because I needed my car back, but have no answers about the converters, which is making noise. If I had time I would organize a protest across the street from this business and curse the day he (Dave) was born. Dont shop here go to Mannys Mechanic located on South Main St. Wtby, CT, truly honest man and reasonable, tell him Linda sent you.
They were so good, nobody else is touching my car(s)..And Im being for real.
Dave is very thourogh, experienced, graphic and accurate. He takes time with your car to ensure he is not missing anything; he is very expensive though. I wish he had some discounts and/or coupons, because coupons always bring in business. But quality over quanity.
Ive gotten great service and support from these guys.
Great service! Will definitely use them again.
Its unbelievable to know that someone bought a new vehicle and is calling D&D Transmission for repairs when you have a warrantee for your new vehicle this is not logical it seems that the intentions of that review is degrade the integrity of the outstanding and one of a kind transmission shop but what is ment for bad will draw attention to the good character of D&D TRANSMISSION
JUST CALLED!! said Hi I just bought I new vehicle and he cut me off and said HEY you use the word HEY (I know I did that I do not say HEY) then went to proceed that I bought a new vehicle and immediately cut me off again and said why are you calling us then!!!! Seriously just lost my service with 2 vehicles and other recommendations if they did good work!!!! SOOOO RUDE!!! Thats ok theres others out that that my expensive jobs can go to :) But do know I will let everyone know how unprofessional you are and will automatically tell people when they ask about your business.
Tried charging me $400 for brakepads. And tried telling me his parts were the best. Liar.
Great people 💯💯💯 very informative
The job was clean and good...and wasnt all expensive
Very professional and does great work
I brought my car to them, and I dont know what they did, but every time I open the ashtray now, the horn blows! And when I turn on the radio, the windshield wipers come on!
Rip off major rip off fixed my car i drove down the street and the check engine light came on.
He is the best
