He also found another problem as he fully checked the car over, not just what my initial complaint was (serpentine belt). His price and service was better than where I usually go. My car basically broke down on my way to work, and I desperately called Safe Auto a little after 7AM asking if they could take my car to which they agreed. I just moved to the area and needed repairs on my car. I found SAFE Auto Service online and based on their good reviews, brought my car there. They did not disappoint! Ken and the team did a awesome job replacing rear shocks, brakes, diagnosing and fixing the ABS light issue. Ken followed up several times with cost, and timeframe. Amazing service. Got my vehicle in in the morning and it was ready in the afternoon after a call about everything that was wrong and the pricing. Made sure I was comfortable with all repairs and went out of their way to make sure it was effective. Even picked up on things the dealership that I had originally taken it to had missed and fixed them as well. Definitely going back in the future and recommending everyone.

My starter motor died in a parking lot, they took the car in on short notice at about 1:30pm, called a half hour later to confirm the issue and provided a very reasonable quote. Work was completed just after 4pm. No issues, solid professional work, would definitely go back.

I took my car here lots of times for oil changes had my brakes calipers done here dics good work but won’t stand by his warranty I got a battery from him ten months ago for my 2011 Nissan Maxima it went bad I went to get it replaced n he said he never worked on my car there or sold my a battery n got loud in front of my son used bad language very unprofessional didn’t even want to look in his computer or gave me a chance to show him I took my car there smh n I have my paperwork of all the times I took my car there can’t believe he treated me like this

There is no place I would bring my vehicles other than to Safe Auto. Ken is one of the last honest mechanics anywhere. Amazing service and always done perfect and quickly. Never over charges I was told by one place I had certain problems that needed fixing that would have cost me an extra $600 I brought it to Ken, and he said no there was nothing wrong with what I was told needed to be replaced. Honest, professional, personable, if something is wrong with your care take it to safe auto service best in the business period!

Best mechanical at the longtime excellent service

These guys are great . They gave me an estimate over the phone and my total was within $20 of what they said, even though they had to do extra work . Theres plenty of other stuff wrong with my vehicle that they couldve tried to upsell me on but they didnt. Very honest, friendly and upfront . And theyre fast! I dropped my truck of the night before they were supposed to do it and they called me 8:00 am and already had it apart . 100% will be the first place I go for any future work . I cant overstate how impressed I was with them

My truck had a rear shock mounting bracket break off the axle. I knew it would take skilled metal fabrication and weld on a curved and rusty axle surface. I tried Safe Auto as I was impressed with their working owner on the phone and his long-standing business model. When I inspected the fix I was pleasantly surprised by the robust, high quality craftsmanship at a reasonable price. Attached is a photo of the nice work!

My car was towed here a couple of months ago, in need of serious repair. I immediately felt well taken care of even though I was a new customer. The repairs were done very quickly and the pricing was very fair. I just brought my car in again for a completely different issue. The service was extremely fast. Very grateful for Safe Auto Service. I personally have only had good experiences here. I have 0 complaints. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. They fix any problems you have all the way not just a temporary fix. My car has been running great thanks to them. They are very inexpensive. If you have any kind of trouble and not sure what is going on dont stress about it they will relieve you from all your worries. Excellent work and I recommend them to anyone, whether you have a work vehicle or personal vehicle they are very handy and they do all their work in a timely manner. Love this place truly!

I never write reviews...ever but this place is honestly the best when it comes to repair and maintenance. I cant count the amount of times ive gone there expecting to get a few thousands of dollars billing only to get something extremely reasonable for a price. Most auto places will drain you dry of every dollar you have but this place and Ken especially really gives you the feeling of people who are passionate about cars. Dropped my car off in the AM for a starter replacement and it was done by the afternoon.I definitely will be coming back for any other issues on my vehicle.

I did not want to write a review, because I dont want too many people finding out about this great place. A friend heard that I was thinking of taking my car to the dealer, when she told me about her mechanic, Ken and had such high praise I had to try. And was I happy I did. Ken was terrific, no problem, matter-of-fact, with no embellishment. Pricing was more than fair, and the work was done in a timely fashion and I felt like I was respected and heard!Ill be back, but please dont take your cars to this garage - I want to keep him as my very own mechanic and not share! I have brought my two cars and my daughters car to SAFE Auto for servicing and always receive top quality workmanship at reasonable prices. Recently, I had recall work done at a dealership. The dealership gave me a list of problem areas that needed repair to the tune of $725! I brought my car to SAFE Auto and Ken inspected my car thoroughly. He said there was nothing wrong with the car! On top of that, there was no charge for the inspection! Honesty and integrity are what SAFE Auto and Ken Gagne are all about!

I moved to Meriden 4 months ago and was in need of local auto repair after my car died on I-91 during a nasty rain storm. I felt confident after reading some of the reviews, but Ken far exceeded my expectations. He collaborated with my insurance company, and not only had my car ready the same day, but he also took care of additional maintenance issues all of which in total came out FAR less than my insurance quoted. Ken was so personable when I picked up my car and had my 14-month old daughter giggling (and me smiling) on our way out. Honest, reliable, family friendly and family-owned....I’ll never go elsewhere!

I will absolutely not take my vehicle anywhere else for repairs. We’re talking reasonable prices and quick turnaround. You walk in tell them exactly what your problem is and they fix it. No pressure tactics for unnecessary repair. If they see something else that might need repair they will simply mention it give you a quick rough estimate and suggest you bring it in at another time.My only regret is not taking my car here sooner.

Went to SAFE auto repair for much needed new brakes and an oil change. It was my first time there... it was convenient for work and had good reviews. I would like to say I have brought my car to SAFE for the past few weeks, and have been impressed each time. Today I learned that the car that was sold to me had split catalytic converter which was disclosed to me upon purchase. Thank you SAFE for being honest in the work, most people would have milked me for money. Not SAFE thank you.

SUPERB!!! There is no other place I would rather take my car for service. The boss is extremely nice, welcoming and most of all honest. Anything they fix he stands by it and for good reason. My car is an older model so it needs work more often than not and he takes good care of it. Their service is prompt, never leaving me without a car for more than a work day. We have two high-mileage cars and we only trust Safe Auto with them. The service is great, the explanations of the problem and the work needed are always clear, and the prices are lower than what we would pay at the dealership. Ken has even told us on occasion that certain repairs dont need to be made, and that we are okay to keep driving. We have been bringing our cars to Safe Auto for about 8 years, and we havent had a bad experience. Theyre the kind of garage everyone is always looking for.

GREAT experience at Safe Auto! Before now I had never been to Safe Auto. Ive had troubling car problems that my other mechanic could not diagnose, and went on a whim with Safe Auto & dropped it off with the keys after speaking very briefly about the cars problems with the manager on the phone. The next morning the car was diagnosed, but having heard this before I was hesitant though I had no option but to have it fixed and hope it was the fix the car needed. Low and behold, I picked the car up yesterday and it is FIXED!!! An issue that went on for months wrongly diagnosed multiple times was fixed by a group of men at Safe Auto who actually took the time to figure out exactly what my car needed. Pricing was very fair, diagnosing the vehicle was not only on time but faster than expected, and the man I had dealt with was an honest gentleman.No rip offs here!!! Great auto shop! My car had an overheating problem for 2 years that no mechanic could figure out. After moving to Meriden a few years ago I went to this place once for the issue and my car has been running well since. Very honest as well! You cant go wrong going here!

This garage is, in my opinion, the best in Meriden. We always take our cars here when we need big work done. During my most recent visit I took my Chevy Malibu which randomly broke down with a flashing check engine light. We had no idea what the problem was and no idea how to fix it. It took them only two days to fix our problem. He worked overnight and managed to work a miracle tuning up the car, making it run again, and doing it all at a reasonable price. I had my car back way before expected, in under two days, and I am very satisfied with the results. Another job well done by Safe Auto.

Ive had need of Ken and companys services twice now, and hope to have them to count on for many years to come. In both cases, the problem (Electrical issues and non-operative AC in the first case, worn through brake pads in the second.) was identified within a few hours. In the first instance, although his pricing is more than fair, it was a fairly hefty repair, and rather than pressuring me into anything, he gave me some time to think about how to proceed. Once Id decided to authorize the full repair job, the work was completed in an efficient and timely manner. In short, Ken is a straight-shooter, and a mechanic I trust. Id recommend him to anyone in the area.

Very disappointed. Ive been going to Ken for many years now and even recommended people to him. Hes honest and ethical but during Labor Day weekend 2020, my Jeeps check engine light turned on. I dropped it off on Labor Day so he can work on it 1st thing Tuesday. Confirmed it was my catalytic converter and as you know, thats very pricey. On Wednesday, I pick up my Jeep only to drive away 1 block and the check engine light turning back on in addition to now, my Jeep shaking and idling high which wasnt an issue before. I call Ken and he tells me to bring it back.I brought it back, he ran diagnostic & says its misfiring and my spark plugs are worn out so thats the issue. $1700 later, I drive home and my check engine light came on again and same problem.This time, they felt bad and offered to pick up my vehicle today...the Friday after Labor Day, from my house and run further tests. I didnt get a call so at this point my boyfriend got ticked, called them around 2 pm asking what was going on. That if Im still having the problem, it obviously wasnt the cat or spark plugs. Response was, We dont know whats wrong with it.I then got a call from Ken saying that he cant have my boyfriend calling and accusing them of being dishonest so theyre going to put back my old parts, reimburse me and I can take my Jeep to a dealer and pay them to figure it out. This is AFTER they had my Jeep now for 4 days and because they couldnt figure out what was really wrong with it.Very, very upset & extremely disappointed! In the end, he didnt charge me for the oil change & left the new plugs even after reimbursing me. Just bummed that they couldnt figure out the issue even after having my Jeep for 4 days. Still a decent place to go to just not for big jobs.

New to the CT area .. brake light came on and I was told after getting my rear brakes replaced 3 months ago ..You need to get front brakes replaced soon ..so when my brake light came on a few days ago I figured well I was told by the mechanic in MA I would need rear brake service ..So I looked up nearby Service Stations ..called for ball park prices and Safe Auto in Meriden Ct was fairest price. Read reviews and made appointment .. took my car in the bay right away, put on lift and during inspection Ken (the owner) said you don’t need front brakes at this time but, your break fluid is leaking so we’ll tighten that up and you should be allset. Ken also found a small leak of transmission fluid and tightened that as well .. What started out as a $300+ cost .. turned into the cost of an oil change, replace brake fluid and transmission fluid.. Greatly Appreciate an Honest Mechanic! I definitely will continue to use and would highly recommend Safe Auto Service in Meriden CT for all Auto and Truck service ..
