A convenient spot on the east side with an stocked meat counter and beer cave.
Greetings, i am searching for the infamous candy corn brats that i saw on the internet. Please tell me my journey was not in vain
The perfect neighborhood grocery store. Their beer selection is the best too.
“The perfect little store” IF you’re not disabled. Not ADA compliant and with an attitude that makes Madison’s worst of list, abd tops that if the most divisive, the store is lucky to still be in operation.A TERF-like older woman discriminated against my service dog and I at the door. Abd then refused to help her li e if customers when told to back down by her boss.Store has limited organic and no wheelchairs for the elderly and disabled. We won’t be back and I’m telling EVERYONE I work with to steer clear. One upside was the manager who made it all better. And fir that I thank you for your service to Madison. Take care.
This is my own community market now and I have been in love with it ever since setting foot in the door for the first time.Local, ethical and community minded. Not using any carbon heavy/planet killing delivery services like flex, eatstreet or uber and always the best staff to deal with.Plenty of local sourcing and ethical produce.A business for the community and the planet.Great staff and excellent atmosphere.
Great local grocery store that’s easy to walk to! Cashiers are really nice and I love the selection of local baked goods and produce always in stock. The prices vary and sometimes I’ve been very excited at how little my grocery bill adds up to, but the produce prices seem to change week to week a lot. I feel that the produce I get here is usually much fresher than what I bought from Willy Street Coop. They are allowing reusable bags now.
Very nice Co-op with a wonderful selection of organic food and very nice employees.
I love this grocery store! I’ve shopped at every grocery store in Madison but I always come back to Jennifer Street Market because their produce and meats are far fresher and tastier than anything in town. They have an excellent selection of goods across the board!
Excellent deli counter with great fresh meat options and the best beer cooler in town by square foot. Produce is very hit or miss but youll usually find what you need.
Does anybody else adore the smell of this place? Fresh produce and a great market in the neighborhood.
Never shop here. The owners are predatory and demeaning to their employees. COVID guidelines are not being followed nor are the safety of the employees or customers being ensured. Kim and Steve have shown this community over and over they do not have the same care for us as we showed for them to keep them open. Both of them do not wear masks while in common areas. Im extremely disappointed in Jenifer Street as they should setting and holding an example for how we take care of each other during this pandemic with their status as a community market.
Small neighborhood store with everything I need. I come here for groceries when I need something in a pinch. They are close to my house.
What an absolute gem to have in the neighborhood. I dont think theres another one like it in the City. Produce could use some work. But in all its a great market. Everything you need and within walking distance!
Theres only one Jenifer Street Market (Jenny Street if you want to avoid looking like a tourist). Great produce for vegetarians, great deli for carnivores.Yes, you could go to one of the bigger discount chains that buy and sell in bulk. But do you really want to support that type of thing? Not on Madisons East Side you dont!Patronage is the best form of support for local business. Better than Facebook likes or Google reviews even. Go to Jenny Street. Go meet some neighbors. And, for your own sake, buy a pretzel bun. I pity anyone who goes through life blissfully yet tragically unaware of those pretzel buns.
Love the product selection, and the bargains. Love the fireplace and the communal seating area. So cozy. Also, staff were really friendly too.
I walked 3 1/2 miles to check this out for grocery shopping since i am in high risk category, when i got there i walked through the store and liked that not alot of people where there and meat and produce looked good. My plan was to come home change cloths and go back and do my grocery shopping. As i was leaving i asked if they had a bathroom and was told by 2 people no plumbing is not working . wWell how are employees washing thier hands. Under the circumstances i think i will pass on this with plumbing being out or a lie to a potential customer.
My favorite local grocery shop. I get my meat almost exclusively from this market. Its all been very good. The staff really make the store a great place as well.
Great grocery store. Lucky to have it in this neighborhood. I thought I would go for a few items now and then, but I have made this my #1 stop, and do 100% of my grocery shopping here. They have it all, and more. Beer cave is great. Meat selection is amazing, and staff will help you discuss how to prepare it. Deli is abundant, and there is a hot bar with daily dinner specials too. Whats not to love about JSM??!
Like others have said great deli and meat counter. Their coleslaw and chicken brats are so good. Add some baked beans and thats one of my go to summer meals. Also have a great beer cooler and now accept cards ($10 minimum)! Its overall a great little neighborhood, local spot that Im happy to support whenever I can.
What makes this market exceptional besides its location and history is its exception meat department and excellent selection of beer. Honestly, the cold beer selection is absolutely second to none!
Really great place for budget shopping, but the apple selection is truly superb; its probably the best apple selection outside of a big farmers market. The meat department is arguably the best in town for both the selection and price. The cheese selection may not be as full as Willy Street Co-op, but its hard to pin down what is lacking. They have both more affordable big cheddar blocks and the good stuff from Roth and Hooks. They have a good assortment of very affordable kitchen essentials, from big bags of rice to spices to a great beans and canned soup selection for the size of the shop. Their walk-in beer fridge is also very well-stocked with local craft beers, interesting and essential imports, and a few macro domestics. For a relatively small grocery store (though average for a couple decades ago), this place is great for both the budget shopper and those who can splurge on nice craft condiments, cheese, beer, etc. A somewhat hidden gem that Ill go out of my way to shop at.
Great bakery! The apple carrot muffins are to die for. Coffee is a bit strong, but I go before working in the area, and Im zooming around. The staff is friendly, the store is clean and easy to find stuff, and has a great selection. Hard to see now, with the condos there, but you should check it out. A hidden gem of the Atwood neighborhood.
All the customers wear masks but many of the staff, including cashiers do not.Apparently, according to the owner of their FB page, the health and safety of their coworkers and neighbors is optional and a moral judgement by each employee The cashiers are literally one foot from you and food handlers like bakery Dept and meat Dept dont wear basic protection for customers. It is sad considering the neighborhood came together to save the store. I will go to Fest Foods all staff and nearly all customers are concerned with their fellow mans health. You can stay away from the other consumers.
The best neighborhood market!Ive been going to JSM for a few years and they almost always have what I need. Theyre friendly and the store is very clean.Beer Cooler: 5 Stars! What a great selectionProduce: 3 Stars ... its just average.Meat/Fish: 3.5 Stars Great burgers, Fish.. eh..Cheese: 4 Stars Plenty of local offeringsBut my favorite is the Jams and Jellies 5 Stars!! Great Selection. I find stuff here that I simply cant get elsewhere.Considering the small size, You really get a lot of value here!
This is my favorite grocery store in Madison! Sure, its tiny and the aisles are packed and a little claustrophobic, but you can find just about everything you need at a good, competitive price. Lots of seasonal local produce, great meat counter, amazing beer cooler. If youre looking for specialty items or organic produce, youll probably be happier at an upscale grocery store. But if you just need a few things, Jenifer Street Market is the best.
The location is great. Its small but the prices are only slightly higher than bigger grocery stores so dont expect to be able to do all your shopping there. The meat counter is impressive and they have a great liquor selection.
Awesome little local grocery store. Great deli and beer selection. Fresh produce easy to get in and out get what you need. Friendly staff always looking to help. Also have some awesome premade homemade pizzas. Cheap and tasty.
When you want to feel like you are in an upscale tiny general store visit this place. Narrow aisles just give you a chance to see how deep the variety is. Definitely not inexpensive but has a comfortable vibe and is great post farmers market treat for us or while biking
This grocery store is by far my favorite in Madison - we live out by Meriter Hospital and we still drive all the way to Jenifer St. Market for their groceries! They only take cash, which is fine - you just just have to be prepared. Their staff are helpful and nice. Their deli counter is DELICIOUS, I cant get enough of the cheese they have. They always have a sale on some kind of cheese when we go.I also love, love, love this store because they sell Sassy Cow milk (I ONLY drink Sassy Cow) and they have a great mix of organic, specialty items as well as everyday, cheaper options. Also, their bakery is PHENOMENAL, and so are their prices. Their delicious muffins are only 99 cents each!!! And theyre amazing!!!The old review complaining that they dont take anything but cash is silly. Lots of local businesses in Madison only take cash. Just something you have to be aware of before you go, no biggie. Also, if you use the ATM in their store, it costs you a dollar, but then you get a receipt that has a coupon to take a dollar off your grocery bill, so they make sure not to rip you off just for withdrawing. Nice place :)
A Madison gem. It is comparable to Cap Center Market in size (ONLY) --The quality however is top notch. A local grocery store that has it all. The customer service and quality is 5-star. Going to join in on the other reviews to point out that the beer cave is pretty neat. They provide coats for you to borrow so you can take your time exploring. Currently live near the capital but I am always happy to make the drive over to JSM. Please never stop selling those delicious meatballs!
Stopped in while visiting Wisconsin a while back. A gem of a beer cave and a great selection of cheeses and meats, and definitely for a trips worth of food. We loved it!
Tight spaces in the store, produce hit or miss. Ample parking, ATM access, need to spend $10 in order to use a card. Its a good quick spot to shop and has the BEST beer selection. Most people working are friendly too!
Compact market with everything you want! Great meat counter, and a walk-in beer cooler with loads of choices. Well priced wine assortment, too. And finally you can pay with your debit card at checkout!
This is the perfect local market. Every neighborhood should be so lucky as to have a place like this. Great meat and produce selection and just enough variety throughout the store to make anyone happy. They dont carry all the brands of every product like the big stores, but you can count on finding a great option for whatever your searching for. On top of that, they have probably the best curated beer selection in Madison. Again, not everything from every brand, but definitely the best around.
Good local shop. Deli is very good. Have a good, rare selection of beers in the walk in cooler. Still decently priced. Cash only I believe.
Just what a neighborhood market should be! Serving the neighborhood. Fair prices. Relatively HUGE produce section, deli, meat counter and bakery. How do they fit it all in there?!? Its a tight squeeze. Great beer cooler.Cash and local checks only. Theres an ATM machine right by the entrance.JSM, you should dedicate the first 1/3 of your parking lot to bicycle racks. The rack right by your front door is great, but you need more! And encourage people to ride, not drive ;-)
This is my pantry. Good selection of meat, produce, most other needs. Beer selection is extensive for the size of store, and they even provide coats for the cooler (you may be spending more time than you think deciding). Prices are higher than big box grocers but its just around the corner and you can get in and out in the time it would take to drive to and park at the alternative.
Produce a great meat and seafood case plus one of the tightest walk in beer coolers on the East side make this a real gem.
Great local place for most groceries...good beer & wine selection.
I go especially for the reasonably priced Collectivo/formerly Altera Coffee. In my opinion the best medium roast beans in town. Even though its a small old fashioned neighborhood store they have whatever you need at reasonable prices. An old fashioned meat market, produce, wine, beer &a good cheese selection.
Meh. The election of food is getting better as time goes on. Cashier staff definitely has less than friendly interaction except for my most recent trip... Due to the cashiers lack of courtesy, this is my last choice unless needed for quick items.
Fantastic local neighborhood market, grocery store with beer and wine selections as well. Full service, with convenient parking or easy walking distance. Full selection of products, thoughtfully displayed and easy to find and a cheerful, friendly staff.
Nicely stocked establishment, very friendly staff. Very helpful.
Very nice neighborhood grocery store, great meat from the deli and well priced chocolate bars
This Grocery store is the best in Madison and they might have the best Deli and Beer Cave in the state of Wisconsin. Love this place and I think its a local treasure.
Easy to get to. Great deli/meat Dept. Always some fun locally grown veggies. Also wonderful staff!
My favorite little market in the city. The sales are better than Willy st but the quality is right there. Good fish offerings also.
Cute little market with a great selection of product for the size.
Small and limited selection, but very quick. Good meats and a walk-in beer cooler.
Small neighborhood grocery store. It has ok quality produce section but their meat section is really good. Very friendly and helpful staff.
What a beer cooler! I can always find something different, unique, or exactly what Im searching for here. The best selection in Madison.
Tiny grocery with great hot bar and bakery. Also, have a stacked beer cave.
Good people! Well run store with good selection. Great beer cooler
Too many good things to say about the Jen street market, but one of my favorite things is their walk in beer cooler that always has a variety of hard to find beers.
They have just the right mix of food, with a big selection of produce, meat and seafood, craft beer and wine.
Small neighborhood grocery store with so many great things in it. Great deli, great prepared foods, great produce, and great beer selections.
Great variety and a ton of flavorful brats to choose from. Big selection packed into a smaller store. Friendly and helpful staff as well.
Greatest place to be your self A place to find what youre looking for
So. Simply to have Jenifer Street market not only within walking distance but actually in existence is beyond words. The quality of everything is awesome. Food, staff, selection etc. Yes cause it is small there are things they dont have but look closer and I bet the things they dont have are things you dont need. The staff is great and accommodating. And the prices are very very competitive and given what they are I would have never expected that. Very affordable very awesome. Food, beer, wine, meats, cheeses, fruits, vegatables, cakes, aand staples. keeping on with this neighborhood gem.
Amazing deli! The meats are always fresh and the selection is astounding. None of that buy it in the package crap.
Unique little store. You can find things here that you cant anywhere else. Good butcher as well.
Racist. Privately owned so they are rude. Over priced weird food. 1st n my last time shooping here. Dont waste your time. Ben is the manager. Kim is the owner.
The beer selection is outstanding by any measure, but efficient for a neighborhood store with friendly staff.
Fresh produce, great deli and meat dept. Theybdo a great job of taking care of the community.
Great local business! They take debit and Apple Pay now as well! Love their selection of food and brews!
Nice little store with a wonderful selection of goods. I will be coming here more often.
A very cute neighborhood grocery store. They also have one of the best selections of beer in Madison.
I have been shopping there for over 25 years and love it and even though I live out in Sun Prairie I drive to this unique little market ...I hope they dont move to E Wash...it would ruin the atmosphere of the store....
Great neighborhood market with just the right amount of charm to bring you back time after time
Great meat counter and best beer cooler on the city. A friendly neighborhood grocery that is an anchor in this Eastside neighborhood.
Nice place, with local grocery items, friendly staff, a good selection of wines, and the best part, the back meat and seafood counter.
Nice local coop. Good meat counter and great beer selection.
I love this place because its like my favorite small town grocery store
Great neighborhood grocery store good selection of fruits and veggies they have one of the best butcher shops and service is always friendly.
Old school corner market. Basics and some surprises. Cute.
Great deli and produce. No longer cash only. Top shelf beer selection.
Wonderful little neighborhood grocery - a dying breed. Their deli counter is fabulous. The staff is friendly. The produce is local.
Great locally owned place with a mix of basics and organic stuff
Great deli, great meat counter, very nice staff.
Great neighborhood grocery store, has an excellent deli and meat department.
Cute little grocery store, great selection, awesome deli and butcher, impressive wine and beer selection
I have been shopping at the jeniffer st market for about 7 months 6 days a week. Then one day as Im respecting thier sign that says smoke 50 feet away from the store and one of the business. A part owner told me to get the f**k out of here and dont come back.
Great little grocery with unexpected treats and great sales
Wide variety, good selection, good deli counter all in small neighborhood grocery.
Wiw. What a nice store with wonderful produce and cheese.
You know someplace has a great beer cooler when they provide you with jackets to wear when your trying to make a decision.
I love ths kind of neighborhood market. Good selection, prices higher than larger chain markets.
Small but has everything you need really. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Nice little market with a great butcher and awesome beer selection
My favorite local grocery, everything you need at decent prices.
Great neighborhood market, service is always excellent. The lobster tank makes me sad.
One of the best beer selections in Madison. Also, be sure to check out the brat section.
Great market, great wine selection and a beer cooler with a very large selection of beer. They only take cash.
Great selection. Local. Co-op owned. Kind of over priced.
Nice little corner/ grocery store with great selections!
Great meat counter, good produce, and a nice selection of beers and wines.
Small local grocery store with a great beer selection
Wonderful food and people are very helpful and kind!!!
