Best place to get specialty meats like chicken feet, beef tendon, and oxtail.
I very Much enjoyed my stroll through this Asian grocery store. The offerings lean towards more Chinese than anything else but that was fine by me. I did find my favorite brand of Thai tea as well as various other delicious sauces and whatnot. Several people have mentioned the smell but to me it truly just smelled like the grocery stores in China, which is a good memory for me! Prices are excellent. I’ll be back!
Wonderful downtown store with American basic foods(chips, eggs, milk, soda, baking soda) snd also a fish market, raw meats, Asian eggs, seeds, ramen style instant noodles from Japan, Vietnam, Korean, etc., and cooking stuff like rice cookers, plates etc. also Mexican ingredients and international fresh vegetables. Could be cleaner and less cluttered.
Been going here since a shorty. And so has my family. We love it no complaints
I am very happy with this place they have a lot of the things I look for in an Asian grocery store. The owners were very nice and helpful. They keep their store very clean.
Fresh fish, meat, and produce along with a good selection of other items.Plenty of parking. Store was a tad cramped in sections but otherwise good.
Cheap and fresh vegetables always found for best prices. Everyone must visit here
I love the Asian Food Market on from the south and a lot of the time I can find a lot of the meats that I like that I cant find in the bigger stores
Doesnt have all the Filipino products we want, but my wife likes the fish selection.
I used to love Asian midway so much since they have a good selection but the aisles are super crowded and they need to stock up their shelves faster. as mentioned above, the shelves are already tight enough as is- there is barely enough room for two people to be coming down the lane at the same time, opposite direction.... To make matters worse, the staff there sets the goods right on the ground as they receive their shipments. Theres just not enough space to shop around but lets just stack everything on the ground before stocking the shelves up! My husband and I took turns babysitting the cart while one or the other take turns walking down each aisle.
Theres a great number of Asian grocery stores in Madison, with a good handful of the best ones being on Park street. While Midway isnt the biggest or the nicest out of them all, its my personal favorite. Sure, the parking lot is hell, and the store is grimy and disorganized. But thats kinda part of the charm. Theres always something interesting in the produce section, chunls of grass carp at the fish counter, plenty of fun snacks and packaged foods to try out, tons of cooking sauces, teas, rice, frozen dumplings, and a decent selection of serve ware. Plus, they get deliveries in from Asian Sweet Bakery down the street. Wear your mask, sanitize your hands, and happy cooking.
I love shopping here! I especially love getting the roast pork belly. They have such a wide variety & are helpful.
Usually good experience but this time I tried buying some lobsters and the old man kept trying to give me half dead ones and not the ones I wanted, saying they’re all the same. I had to really insist and refuse the ones he chose before he gave in. Even then he would purposefully pick out the crummy ones saying that’s the one I chose.. bad
Have been a customer of this store for years, but today Im left very disappointed.I found parts of rubber band mixed with the sliced lamb I purchased from them, and they refused to offer me a full refund
Asian midway foods is a nice Chinese / Asian store with fresh vegetables, seafood options. Some veggies the you dont find in Walmart or Woodmans such as Banana shoots or Ridge Guard or Bottle Guard. For all those with hyper tension try blending the ridge guard and snake guard as a juice in the morning for few weeks and youll see the difference. The good - Courteous staff, lower prices than several stores. The bad - Seafood always smell bad, the moment you enter the food you smell the strong / staunch odor like how you get in a seashore with dead fish as the store is a closed room. This strong odor can be a definite stay away for Vegans or Vegetarians
Ive been shopping here for over 20 years
Friendly staff and I think good selection.
Theres a lot of great variety, and better prices than other stores downtown. However, make sure to check the date on some products because a lot of stuff is past date.
Love it nice place
They have literally everything I love this place
Lots of stuff needs a good cleaning. All over clean...
Great selection of spices, rices, and noodles. However, some of the ingredients are lower quality. Becareful, but this is a great place to try recipes
Last week was our first time in this place. But It is definitely not the last time. We had great time with the courteous service, with the first-rate food and booze and with the honest pay. We will surely come back again.
Bought 2 beef triple today when I got home I just realized one is expired at 12/25 and smell so bad ...so disappointed. How can you sell something like this .
Has a lot of variety of Asian food and ingredients. Items are usually labeled but some are hiding. I like the sesame balls, but they dont always sell that. Also sell mooncake and Chinese pastry. Overall store doesnt appear too clean but doable. Parking lot is ghetto. Two different ways to enter and exit, but one exit is one way only
Like there meats and seasonings
Best Asian market in town
Best dragonfruit selection in town!
I found the things you would never find at Walmart
From the moment you come to this restaurant the stuff gives you a nice feeling. Very warm hosts, it is a kind place to to go out with friends and colleagues or with your date. delightful cooking, specialist chief cook and stuff, decent cost and attentive service. Warmly recommended.
So much stuff in here! If you need it they have it. Prices are very reasonable. Recommended!
It’s nice for how convenient it is from my apartment, especially since they carry some basic items like eggs, rice, and tortillas. They have so many products though that the walkways are crowded. Also there is a $5 credit limit if you want to use your card here.
My family and I enjoy finding some of the rare foods we eat at this location.
Great deals and fresh foods
Good place to get soulfood items for the holidays
I love this store. They have a variety of ethnic food items!
Lemon grass, various kinds of mushrooms and fresh vegetables
Best place in town to buy asian foods such as dumplings and Pork Buns
Best seafood picked up an octopus and squid. Live lobsters too.
Only been ther once . It was great.
This spot clearly knows how to serve their clients. Regularly with a helpful attitude. The food is fairly priced, always yummy and clean.
Mr Chou is awesome. Seriously, get to know him and hell go way out of his way to make sure you get what youre looking for. Understand that this is an authentic Asian market so youll be walking into a totally different culture. Dont expect people pouring over themselves to help you out; you have to seek help. See, different culture!Great stop to grab those hard to find Asian ingredients though!
Good frozen selection
Nice supermarket with a lot of oriental food and seasonings
Id say buy anything here except the meat/fish. Very good prices for spices, kimchi, lemongrass...etc..
For all your hard to find Asian grocery goods!
They have awesome inexpensive food for Asian style food. Overpriced on basic staples a small thing of vegetable oil to cook in is like 5 dollars could just go to the gas station. But otherwise fresh veggies and seafood.
Fresh vegetables and strange things I try, fish market stinks but great prices and if you go when deliveries come from Chicago you get fresh fish and meat cuts, bones or any other need-
The fishes specially carp, tilapia and salmon are good for Asian guys like me. But you might have to spend a little time cleaning the fish scales. But its okay though. Because its on the cheaper side.
At times it can b pleasant shopping for the little American and foreign produces u need. The foreign food r interesting and sometime delightful. What also so interesting is seeing or meeting other shoppers from other countries. Once in a while occasional misunderstanding and miscommunications can blow my mind. I just dont like to b disrespected in anyway even from the foreignors.
Love this shoppe. It has a lot of variety, could improve organization
I love this place. This is truly a hidden gem. The fact that they put their trash in their vestibule runs off the faint of heart. If you can get past the bad fish smell you will find a great selection and some of the best produce in madison at the lowest prices.
Veggies pretty fresh. Large selection packaged food. Open air smelly fish corner. Good mental exercise for anyone with public place or small space or where people may bump into you.
Great place to buy fresh green vegetables near downtown. Period. Price is right and selection is great. It is one stop solution for varieties of items. I have been shopping here for good 6 years and Ive to say funky smell has gone down quite a bit lately. I believe the smell comes from the fish section. My 7 year old son refuses to go inside due to the smell. Other than that issue, Im a SATISFIED customer.
A very good place to buy Asian and Middle Eastern foods. I love the fresh fish they sell.
Its a grocery store thats been in business I believe longer then Ive been alive Im 39 so. The best in Madison WI
Great place for authentic food and traditional ingredients. Lots of fun to walk through and see what they have. Great prices too!
You can find a variety of Middle Eastern to Asian food with much lower prices than other grocery stores. They have great noodles and the best sunflower seeds. Yet, they need to do something about the hygiene of the store as it is unbearably stinky.
Everything you need, prices are great. Love this place!
As a few other comments have said, buying fresh isnt a good idea here. Its a little cluttered and dirty. The other popular Asian markets in Madison are definitely higher quality, cleaner, and have fresh produce. Its a little on the small side but they have a lot of unique products. The prices are very cheap and as long as you get the packaged stuff (check expiration though), you can get some good deals. Overall not the best place to shop but I wouldnt avoid it because of that. Packaged food is packaged food no matter where you get it!
You can buy the Taiwan, China, Indonesia, Hong Kong style food over there. lts worth to have home town flavor with a little bit of high price.
Such a huge selection and great prices. A pleasant surprise!
A lot of options but a bit messy and cluttered.
Local Asian mart, a long-lived institution. I used to go here in high school and get music cassettes at the checkout of contemporary Asian bands. Long live Asian Midway.
Loved this place. They have lots of really hard to find ingredients. I bought Galangal, banana blossom, octopus, cuttlefish, and lots of ingredients needed for Thai or Chinese cooking. The workers barely speak English, so youll need to find things on your own. Aisles are narrow, but that means more room for good stuff.
Great store with a massive variety of products.
I go here almost every day for my daily fix of exotic and tropical fruits and leafy greens. Wide selection of Asian and ethnic groceries. Fast and unpretentious service.
Amazing non-American grocery items! Although it smells a bit fishy, its because of all the fish they have. You can find a lot of Asian, Indian, and Middle Eastern goods here at reasonable prices.
Great produce. always have fresh cut meat.
A lot of Asian/Oriental stuffs, but some are expired, such as Yeo’s Canned Chrysanthemum Tea. Hopefully the owner can evaluate and take care of this matters. Also, they need to make sure clean flooring especially the back part near by fish tanks, due too its pungent odor.
This Asian Grocery is a Madison Icon. Most of us that were around in the 80s remember good ole, always smiling Peter. Simply put, If its Asian and you can put it in your mouth, you can most likely find it here!Great selection of fresh and frozen fish and hard to find produce.
Nice store but parking can be a pain since it is so close to campus.
Smells a little inside but had all the ingredients I could want and more for an authentic Thai meal. Price is also unbeatable!
If you are looking for something either canned or frozen its alright but Im not buying most of whats consider fresh!I did find some very nice Thai peppers!
Good place to buy vegetables. Should work on cleanliness, and remove strong stench of Fish odor. Can be more customer friendly.
Classic! Great mini pork bun selection. They have some solid staples for a small Madison based store. I love going to Midway!
Good variety of Chinese foods. The produce and meat are hit or miss in terms of freshness but they have items not available elsewhere.
Get you a case of vimto, its the best soda in the world. Also, the best place to buy gtoza, curry paste and ramen. Dont buy the produce unless youre cooking it immediately. Their refrigerator units need upgrades. 90% of the customers are Asian, so you knows its legit.
This may well be a great place to buy food if you are ethnically Asian, but for a local boy, whose family were living in that neighborhood 100 years before this store opened, I find it a bit disgusting. It never smells nice by my standards, and they keep seafood out at room temperature or laying in bins under glass that may or may not be adequately refrigerated. Bought a dozen eggs in a standard Grade A Large carton, and when I opened it at home, they were multicolored, and NONE of them was even close to a large size. Getting help finding something is a crapshoot, if youre lucky to get someone who wants to help you, thats lucky. Ive always felt like their Asian customers matter to them more than Caucasians. Thats a real serious problem, since their landlord in the same government entity as rents the vast bulk of housing on The Triangle, in which units Asians are a decidedly small minority. And on Friday and Saturday, when specialty fresh stuff arrives from out of town, customers of the store completely take over all of the parking, most of which is for tenants in apartments, NOT customers of the store. There was one instance when an ambulance was called to the adjacent hi-rise apartment building, and it could not get into the lots, because both entrances were blocked by customers of Asian Midway Foods.
Excellent selection of Asian foods. Probably one of my favorite in Madison. The freshness of the food varies, so you need to be aware of what youre looking for when you buy something.
Fresh fish, live lobsters, crabs......Exotic and very locally grow produce.Real ingredients for ethnic cusines.Smells like a fish market often so allergies and weak stomaches beware.
Free off street parking lot. Mid-sized food store located near Meriter Hospital with many Asian food items, including White Rabbit candy. This long time food retailer with two checkout lanes serves Madisons growing international community
Great selection of Asian rarities but I was put off by the buckets of bloody chopped fish body parts that are not refrigerated. Wouldnt buy meat here but do go here for curry paste and some produce like mint leaves and cabbage
Great selection of Asian products and produce. Some Mexican, Middle Eastern goods as well. Nice produce section with some harder to find items. My go to Asian market in Madison.
Nice variety and products at a decent price point.
Been going here since I was kid, still go there for the fruit quality for sure
Affordable price. Fresh vegetables and fish. Good front desk staff.
Awesome storeLots of really great items
Listen, if you dont like this place you need to get over your egocentric cultural standards. When you walk in you might notice it doesnt smell like a traditional American grocery store. You might think it smells bad. But what it smells like is a non-american flavor pallet. Midway has fantastic produce and an amazing price. Theyve got such a diverse selection of food you could make a thousand different meals and still you wouldnt have tried everything. Im a white guy and I do at least 50% of my shopping here. Give it a try.
I love asia
Amazing prices and variety. The shop is small, but filled to the brim with lots of foods. If you like dressings/sauces, definitely come here because they have a LOT.
TONS of selection, they just didnt have the specific sauce we needed. The clerk was helpful in trying to locate it for us, though. It was quite cluttered, too, but maybe we just stopped on a day where they were restocking?
You can get beef tendon here and lots of spices...some fresh herbs. The signs in the parking lot threaten to tow you if you are there past 30 min!!
