I passed this wonderful gem of a bookshop in the midst of running errands on Monday and am so thankful that I turned around and went back. What a delightful place! Truly a booklovers paradise. Books floor to ceiling in every room, covering every genre and subject matter possible. What a treat to forget the world for a bit! Friendly, knowledgeable and helpful staff. Well organized, phenomenally well stocked and fairly priced inventory. Exactly what anyone could ever wish for in a good old fashioned bookshop! Thank you so very much! I love this place! Kindle can never replace the feel of holding a good book and turning a page. At first appearance, it looks like a tiny place but its an endless maze of every type of book you can imagine, all well organized. Wonderful prices, great staff and huge selection. Plan on spending at least an hour browsing.

This was my first time there and I definitely will be back. I love the amount of books to choice from. Great prices and excellent service. I wasnt able to find a specific book but that was okay because an employee did her best to find it for me. I really appreciate that. Overall I love the environment of the place.

They have a ton of books. A ton and all of them are at great prices. It is very crowded with shelves but it kinda fun because it is like a maze! The owner is very nice and always greets me when I walk in! I love this place!!

Its a hidden gem in Lynchburg. We ended up spending couple hours just to browse their collection of children books. My kids just sit down and read their classic children books. Its so much fun to be there and the owner are very kind and precious to help you get what you need.

I appreciated that my kids were able to find a wide selection of books and that they felt welcome. This is definitely a shop to bring your family where everyone can find something! 10/10 will be back!

This is my absolutely favorite bookstore to go to. The owner of this bookstore is so polite, friendly, wants people to have fun in his store and he cares so much about this country which especially in this day and age we unfortunately dont see enough of. If you are looking for a bookstore that has an amazing environment, fun for all ages, and great guy running it this is definitely one to check out. The entire store (which was a house) is full of books, all three levels! Whatever type of books you are into Im sure you will find at least one if not five or more that you love for a very good price as well. I bought four books last week and only spent 14 dollars!! Go check this place out, you will not regret it!

My friend and I had a wonderful afternoon shopping here for the first time! The staff was very warm, welcoming, and helpful. I found myself getting lost in another world while we explored the three levels filled with books from top to bottom. The record player lightly playing Oldies in the background gave it an enjoyable atmosphere. On top of it all, there were entertaining comic strips and quotes posted on the walls for you to chuckle at while you browsed. If you need to Christmas shop for a book lover in your life, this a perfect spot to shop!

We love it here. Movies and 3 floors of books organized by topic into different floors and rooms. Nice and clean. Knowledgeable owner and staff. Helpful, good prices, tons of books.

This place is absolutely amazing and my new favorite spot in the entire area! As a book-lover, I could spend forever wandering through the rooms of books, and within the first 30 seconds of talking to the owner, I wanted to adopt him as my own grandpa. Id give this place 10 stars out of 5 if I could!

Fantastic. Owner is great and staff is nice and helpful. Floors of books, current and old. Amazing kids section that hes currently expanding. Fantastic dvd selection. They run 10 movies for $25. Before covid, a trip to the movies was at least $50. So we go and get 10 movies then come home, wrap them, add funny descriptions, and pick them for movie nights. We got 20 last visit 😳😅 They also have a large selection of bibles and some audio books. Nice atmosphere. Clean. Just the right amount of nooks and stacks. If they had coffee I would try to move in.

One of the most wonderful places in Lynchburg. Its the sort of bookstore that you read about in books themselves; cozy, idiosyncratic, and stuffed top to bottom with books of all shape, size, value, and vintage. The staff are very friendly and helpful, encouraging you to make yourself at home. The owner is always game for a sharp conversation on theology, politics, and of course, literature. Prices are very reasonable, especially on hardbacks, and all three levels of the house-turned-store are packed and ready to be explored.I will also add that if you are suffering from a health condition that doesnt allow you to wear a mask, you will be welcome here. I was not so fortunate when visiting Little Givens, who implied I was dishonest about my condition and brusquely ejected me. I appreciate the concern for public health, but I also have no desire to hide like a leper in my home. I want to have the wonderful experience of a bookstore. Bookshop On the Avenue, a place I have always enjoyed visiting in the past, has now become the only store I will shop for used books in Lynchburg. (PS: Barnes & Noble was also understanding when I went there for some new books I needed as well.)

A lot of junk books. We have never been to a used bookstore with a smaller selection of mainstream books and authors. Imagine, three floors of books and 5 Steven King books (to paint the picture). Smells like mold as well. This is also the only place we have seen during the pandemic with a sign out front encouraging people NOT to wear a mask, and calling them face diapers. That alone shows the calibur and level of maturity of this establishment. Spread the word, go elsewhere, support the better places in town and Virginia. Dont waste your time.

Bookshop On The Avenue has three floors of books. The man who runs it is one of the nicest people you could meet and he is always willing to stop and talk. I highly recommend stopping by because you never know what treasures you may find!

Im like a child at a candy store at a bookstore. I could easily spend an entire afternoon at a bookshop, but after a few moments I fled from the Bookshop On the Avenue. I was horrified by the owner and his employees total disregard for the safety and health of their customers. The owner and his staff didnt wear masks and they discouraged their customers from wearing them. The owner posted a sign comparing face masks to face diapers. Even though Im a bookworm Im going to avoid this evil establishment like the plague. I should have stayed away when I saw the giant Trump/Pence sign outside the store.

Im a college student and really enjoyed the atmosphere and hospitality of the people in there! The variety was great, and the nostalgia of seeing classic books and the smells of old books gave it a homey feel! 10/10 reccomend!

Store has a great selection and a sizable inventory but wearing a mask was clearly offensive to the proprietor. If he hadn’t shot a condescending comment at us I would have spent $30 or $40 easily. No sale. Seems like a bad business policy for certain kinds of business to air their political views so blatantly.

I love this location. Not many know about this book shop unless they are local, but it is really one of Lynchburgs hidden gems. Fantastic prices on books and the owners are so welcoming and friendly. Only downside is the selection is limited to what they have in stock. They may be missing books from a collection, but its still by far the best price and best experience around for a book store. Ever since arriving in Lynchburg, our family, with kids of all ages, has enjoyed this bookstore! Where you might pay $10+ for a book online or at a bookstore, you can get books for 99 cents to $4.00! Special books and extra editions, or brand new Bibles are sold at a steeply discounted price, so if you are a book lover of any age, you will most definitely find something you love there! We have even sold books here (not to earn lots of money, but to be able to pass on what we no longer use for someone elses benefit) and received credit to buy more of what we need. Heartily recommend this store for every person regardless of age or stage in life or type of book wanted. They even have DVDs, too, if youd rather.

This Bookstore definitely has something to offer any and all readers. There are 2 levels of books they cover all reading subjects that are of both old and new authors. I was looking for 2 books that were published in the 90s by different authors that they didnt have. I only stayed there for a short time became if I had stayed longer and kept looking around my fiances would be hurting alot more than they are already.

This is my absolute favorite bookstore. Every time I walk in, I get so happy and I love the smell of the popcorn in the air. Not only do I find so many goodies ( including movies), I love that this is not a chain and the perfect example of what a true bookshop should be. My husband and I were in there yesterday and I am so grateful that they are open during this difficult time. Please be sure to shop local and give these owners your business!

This was one of the best used book stores—perhaps even the best—that I have been to. Incredibly extensive collection, meticulously organized, chock full of books on my to read list. Also it was very affordable. I will absolutely be coming back, over and over again.

This is everything you would want in a used bookstore and more. It was like I was walking in to a amazing portal that would take me on all kinds of adventures. All the shelves were completely full with books and the farther in I went the better it got. They have 3 floors and a very diverse selection of books. In the basement there is a whole room just for science fiction. I love science fiction and have never come across a bookstore with a whole room for it. The owner was really nice and helpful also. This is the best bookstore Ive been to and I would recommend it to anyone.

Great place for book lovers. Difficult books to find are here. Many out of print and rare editions are available if you just keep looking. You can return the next day and discover an entire shelf of rare books you missed on your initial visit. Prices are very reasonable. If you like old fashioned paper books, Bibles, and the stuff you grew up with you will find it here.

Such treasures around every nook and cranny! If you are looking for specific books, the owner can point you in the right direction. He knows pretty much exactly what he has on hand and can point you to some others you might love based on what youve already gotten. I cant wait to head back there with my list in hand to search the shelves. A shop you could get lost in for hours and never see it all.

Seriously, this bookstore is a certified gem. With over 100,000 books on 4 floors of all genres and time periods, book lovers can get blissfully lost here. I sure did. The owner, Walt, is friendly and knowledgeable and will do whatever he can to make sure you walk out with something to be happy with on your shelves at home. I was particularly impressed with the vast genre collections - if you love western, horror, fantasy, or sci-fi, get off your butt and give this place a visit. It’s amazing.

I have lived in this area all 29 years of my life and had not visited Bookshop on the Avenue until last weekend. I am very happy that I did. I rediscovered my love of reading a couple of years ago, so Bookshop on the Avenue is a readers dream come true. The staff were very friendly and made sure that we were aware that they had a top floor as well as a basement with a wide assortment of books to choose from. I recommend this used book store to anyone who enjoys reading and dislikes paying a fortune for brand new books.

This is a great place to look through a lot of different books. They have numerous rooms with used books at very good prices. If you enjoy books, this place may be just what you are looking for. Whereas most modern book retailers carry all of the latest and greatest, bookshop on the avenue may be a great place to find some real classics as well as more recent. They also have DVDs and Blu Ray movies as well. You never know what treasure you might find!!

I love coming to this little mom and pop shop. Tge prices are great and you can literally get lost for hours. My only complaint is how cluttered the place is because its hard to find what youre looking for.

I love Bookshop on the Ave and have for years! It was one of my favorite things about moving back to Lynchburg, because the used bookstore options in my hometown arent close to this place! They have three stories of books and each room is a different section, so its really easy to know where to look for what youre trying to find. Theyre always really friendly here and I love shopping at the Bookshop!

Bookshop on the Ave is my go to bookstore! They have a huge selection of books from young adult to cooking to language books. They also take used books in exchange for cash. Their prices really cant be beat if what you want can be found there! D3finately check out this local wonder if you are in town & love books!
