We are visiting Lynchburg for the first time and made a point to stop here and it was definitely a great decision. The selection of kids toys is amazing- the way everything is organized makes sense and really entices the kids to play. We also homeschool and they had lots of tools and materials to choose from as well. I could barely get my kiddos to go! Staff was also very friendly and I didn’t even get to look at everything, but all we did see was amazing and we really enjoyed our visit! Highly recommend if you know some budding book worms and/or little ones with great imaginations ;)

Wonderful selection of teacher/bulletin board/classroom supplies. Huge selection of toys for all ages and nice coffee shop too. Large used book loft and small pond and train playground outside that my son loves. Staff is always helpful and friendly. Definitely my familys favorite book store in town.

I always take my granddaughters to Givens when I am in town. They have a creative displays and great selection of cuddly, fun and educational toys including craft and science projects. Unfortunately, I always seem to get there on days when staff is too stressed or otherwise too occupied to be friendly. Good thing their inventory practically sells itself.

The staff is very friendly and helpful. Upstairs there is a large selection of used paperback books, they are sold at half price regardless of condition of book. This means that some of the used books that are in rough shape are sold at too high of a price. There is always plenty of parking available.

Wonderful place. check-out lady and I discussed Little Free Libraries! I enjoyed the discount books racks - lots of good choices and in good condition. shop is well-located.

Best bookstore in Lynchburg. Theyve got something for everyone! The owner and the staff are all delightful. Theyve been amazing during the pandemic - they request masks and wear them themselves. (Were remembering all establishments that took precautions and only spending money there now). If youre looking for the latest books, creative games, and fun gifts, THIS is your store. The kids love to visit and we always take home at least one game.

Their customer service is the best — I even called late the other night on my way to a child’s birthday dinner and they picked out a gift with a little guidance, called me back to approve and pay, then had it wrapped up by time I drove there! Great local bookstore and coffee shop. If they dont have it they can probably get it for you. They helped me order a book from a printing press that was no longer in print.

This is my favorite book store to visit. From new to used book and some coffee in there back theres always something I want to buy. The staff is always amazing and willing to help with any book I want. Even if they have to order or preorder one for me they manage to get them in timely. The comics section isnt huge but theres always something there I want. The only bad thing is that I cant walk out with more.

Having lived in Raleigh, NC for 18 years supporting a local, independent bookstore, I was so happy to find Givens at my new home here in Lynchburg, Virginia. It is an exceptional store with great staff, used and new books and wonderful educational toys. Buy local and keep your money in the community. They need us now more than ever!

Update: I got a call from the manager, and was very happy with his approach to the incident. So I have changed my rating and can say I will, based on that conversation with the manager, go back to the store. My previous visits to the store were rather positive.Terribly rude service, will never go back.

This place is a wonderful Lynchburg staple that is so much more than a book store. While there are plenty of books, there is also a café, reading lounge, toy section, and a special nook for little scientists. There is even a small waterfall/pond outside! I only wish I could have come here during my childhood; it is a truly unique store that inspired wonder in me even as an adult. The staff was so pleasant and helpful, as they helped me and my girlfriend pick out a cook book and whats more--the woman who helped us even picked out a recipe which we cooked that very night and absolutely loved. Overall, we had a very memorable experience and will certainly return in the future.

Givens is always amazing. Possibly the best bookstore in the city. Every year I go for a book for my birthday, knowing Ill have a great experience. This year was no exception.

We love this bookstore. They are very knowledgeable about their books, especially kids books and series. You can trade in used books for cash or credit (the credit can be used for anything in the store including games and educational supplies). They have a wide variety of kids book and adult books both new and used, games, toys, homeschool maaterial and teacher supplies. Plus they have a cafe inside.

Beautiful small business. If you enjoy reading in a foreign language (Latin, French, Spanish, etc.), this place is for you. They have plenty of books for those who are multilingual. They are reasonably priced, especially the used books. You can get a membership to save a few bucks. Nice atmosphere. Absolutely in love with this place. To clarify, most books are in English, but they have everything. Great teaching supplies as well. This place is my second home honestly.

I love this store you can find basically any book youre looking for and they have lots of unusual items for learning.

Great place for kids and adults alike. I home school and they had great supplies I could physically look through for our upcoming years curriculum. Also, when I asked about those supplies, one of the managers came out to talk to me and said his wife was also there, who does the ordering and teaches 5th grade, and shed be happy to come talk to me about the differences. My kids loved the toy displays that encourage play, which made it easier for me to be able to do my browsing. Also beautiful inside! Highly recommend all around.

This is the most amazing place to bring children, in my case grandchildren. If I want to take them somewhere special this is the place. It is magic! Quality toys, educational, fun, colorful. Play areas with trains, marble mazes. The book area is a place to explore what they like to read. There are plenty of books for adults to explore, and a great used book area upstairs, educational section is unbelievable. On occasion book signing. I met a friend there for lunch and the chicken salad with grapes on a toasted crescent is brilliant. You are missing out if you dont visit this wonderful place.

Ive been visiting this location ever since I was a child and I continue to enjoy every visit. The wide selection of books (both new and used) cater to all ages and demographics. Bookworms could easily spend hours combing through the hundreds of books available. I also recall the childrens toy section being quite robust.

This is such a cute bookstore - I love the ceiling decor. The have several options for story books, educational books and toys. There aren’t a lot of stores that carry simple, old school, open-ended toys in the town, but we have been able to find them here. This local business is a great addition to what this little town have to offer.

This place is a gem in Lynchburg and I love visiting this place, even if for just a cup of coffee and to browse. They are considered a local business so the money spent here stays within the community. To a child walking into this place, it must feel almost magical. The decor is unique and the atmosphere is a calming one. There are so many toys and areas of interest for children that there is something for every child, no matter what they are in to. Aside from that, this is the best teacher resource place in the area. They have so many learning materials for teachers and children that are not available anywhere else in this area. The choices for classroom decor are awesome! Givens is also a bookstore with a great selection of new books and a great upstairs section for used books. Check it out for yourself and you will not be disappointed, especially if you have children or need classroom supplies. For all the teachers out there, they also laminate for much cheaper than most other places. The cafe in the back (The Drowsy Poet) has great coffee also!

Very cool place. Its like a discovery museum for kids, except everything is for sale. There are lots of different learning toys that range all the subjects you can think of. They also have a section for puzzles, and a huge selection of books. There is a coffee shop in the middle of the store, so you can shop and get a cup of Joe at the same time.

If we could give them more stars we would. Amazing store and staff! We were out for an adventure and stumbled in... well be driving back from Roanoke again.

Our whole family loves this place! Staff will go out of their way to track down books for you. Ive only had one negative experience when I was waiting for a staff member to gift wrap my purchase and he was pretty slow due to chatting with another staff member so I had to leave and come back another day to pick it up. Outstanding selection of books for children and adults as well as used, rare and large print. Staff is very helpful and knowledgeable about everything...and this is a store with a huge inventory. Books staff are reading are displayed with various comments. Little Dickens has been very generous over many years in this community and are extremely well regarded, advertising and supporting many organizations and events. Support this model, local business.
