I recently rehabbed an old house in South Knoxville. I bought both my kitchen cabinets and my hardwood floor from Knox Rail Salvage. Everything looks great.I went with unfinished wood cabinets and stained them myself. They are beautiful.I had a problem with the finish on the hardwood floor bubbling and flaking after installation. Joel from Knox Rail Salvage worked with me to get it refinished and it now looks great! I am very happy that he stood behind the product he sold me and did what was needed to make it right.I will definitely shop here again.

Our experience here was 5 stars ALL the way!!!! We couldn’t be happier with these cabinets!! We saved over $3500 LESS than the big box stores and these are PLYWOOD NOT CHEAP PARTICLE BOARD like the big box stores!!! Definately check them out to save $$$$

Interesting place. Lots to see! Good supply of building and remodeling supplies. Pricing is about what you would pay at Lowes or Home Depot. That was a little disappointing because I was expecting a discount store. Everyone was helpful and nice! Glad I checked it out!

If you are a do-it-yourselfer I highly recommend that you walk through railroad salvage. No its not the shiny big box stores with a fancy displays but they have a little bit of everything in the home improvement and building at ridiculously low prices

If you need parts and pieces for your house at discounted prices and you havent been here, Go!! Theres a little bit of everything you could need in a pinch and its looks nice. We purchased a bathroom cabinet, knobs, bathroom faucets, some cleaning chemicals, discounted spray paint, and a front door mat. I swear I love this place! Warning! Its freaking hot as hell in this place in the summer! You will not be in there in July without sweat in places that make you feel uncomfortable. So get a list, stick to it and get out! 😁 People working here are pretty nice but perhaps not the most customer friendly in other aspects, I think it may be the heat. 😏

Nice selection of bathroom vanities and cabinets, staff is very helpful in deciding what you need for your home. Decorations for your home is pretty cool. Only negative is that the store is old and dirty, but otherwise a cool place to get what you need for your home renovation for bathrooms and kitchen cabinets.

The only reason I gave Knox Rail Salvage a 5 star review is the fact that Google does not have a 10 star review. Knox Rail Salvage is without question my families go to when it comes to building or remodeling.The staff is very knowledgeable and they have never been anything but friendly and welcoming to me every time I visit the store.Now with all this being said the value of what you get for your money will not be matched Anywhere in East Tennessee.They have the same products as the big box stores minus the multi million dollar facilities in Knoxville.They pass along savings to their customers. I would highly recommend you visit Knox Rail Salvage for your next home project. I can assure you you will save money And the people you meet will be down to earth and very knowledgeable about the products they sell.Nobody beats the prices at Knoxville salvage.

The first time I visited about a year ago it was great. Better selection and prices. This visit was less selection and higher prices. They were very busy but in the 45 minutes we were there, no-one asked to help us.

I went to Knox Rail 30 years ago when building my house. 20 years ago when building a thousand sq.ft addition and now, today, when building my apartment. Fantastic prices, wonderful people to help you, and the selection is wonderful. I think I need to spend a whole day checking out everything they are carrying. LOL. Heavenly for sure, inspiring new possibilities!

From the outside it does not look like much. When you go inside you find a treasure trove of all kinds of household improvements. There is everything from door hardware to kitchen cabinets and benches. This is a true surplus store from the old school. If you want to find hidden gems, make sure you have lots of time. If you are looking for bathroom vanities, you will find great prices and much better made pieces then you will find at Lowes or Home Depot. The kitchen show room is across the parking lot and is as professional and correctly displayed as you will find anywhere. You will get much more here for the money then you will anywhere else I have found.

I rarely review businesses but occasionally an experience is so exceptional that I have to say so. We purchased and installed cabinets from Knox Rail Salvage in 2017. Our cabinets get a lot of use and have held up beautifully. When an issue developed with our lazy susan (possibly due to misuse on our part), we visited the Fountain City location (we originally purchased downtown). The staff at KRS was incredibly helpful. Jonathan helped us identify what we needed, the warehouse staff was excellent and they even had one of their installers walk me through how to fix my problem. They had everything that I needed in house. I can’t recommend them highly enough. Five stars (only because that’s as high as it goes).

Knox rail usually has what I need for home improvements. April who checks you out does it with a smile and is very knowledgeable in what they have in stock. You can call and ask questions and shes got the answer.

I was surprised at how this place had changed in 20 years. Most prices are the same as what you would pay at any home improvement store. It used to be a place that you could buy things at almost half price.

About 6 weeks ago we bought our bathroom vanity top from Knox Rail Salvage for our bathroom remodel. We are extremely happy with it and its beautiful! The price was great for what we got it for. Everywhere else was asking way more than what we paid at Knox Rail Salvage. We actually got to pick our vanity top out (the opened the box for us to see our product) before we bought it to make sure we liked the design. Since every vanity top design is different when it comes to marble. The quality is on point and amazing. The top itself is very very heavy so that should tell you something. The sales man that helped us gave us tips for safe travels home with it and how to carry it correctly so that it did not break or crack in the center. He also gave us tips on how to do the install. It did only come with the back splash and no side panel in the box it came in. He assisted us with getting a side splash piece as well. They were quick to get it down to us on the loading dock to take it home. They helped to load it in our vehicle as well. They have so much home improvement items. Tons of flooring carpet, vinyl, laminate, and hardwood flooring. They have doors, cabinets, vanities and tops, mirrors, lighting, stair materials, mailbox items, faucets, contact paper, back splash, accessories for projects, door handles, rugs, furniture, wall paper, decor, and much more. Not to mention the items that you can special order. You can spend alot of time looking around this place. They have anything you really need for a home improvement project. The staff was super friendly and always willing to help us out. We had probably three or four people ask if we needed help with anything that we were looking at.

Tim Conran works in bathroom cabinets was very helpful and had a wonderful attitude. Although he didn’t write up my order he took wonderful care of me when I needed assistance. I recommend always ask for Tim if you need bathroom cabinets!!Sorry if I got your last name wrong.

Not really easy to find what you need. If they have it that is..

Even though the employees were nice and helpful, none of them were wearing masks despite the mandate! The environment is also perfect breeding ground for viruses. There is no air conditioning but lots of fans. So you have humidity, warmth, and wind. Not a great combination for protecting customers 😡.

I called them ask for a 6 ft door they said yes I went and paid 450 for the door got it home it’s 5ft 8 inches I called them back and ask why sis you tell me it was a ( 6ft ) door 5 ft 8 inches ? They said well we call that a 6 ft door. Omg why would you call it a 6 ft door if it’s 5 8So the moral is watch what you buy here!

I built a cabin in gatlinburg and purchased flooring, vanities, cabinets and tops. They were very responsive and helpful and the materials were very good. When I needed to make changes they were flexible and very fair. Been contracting almost 20 years and Knoxrail salvage was as good as any material provider I’ve used. I would recommend them without hesitation

We bought our cabinets from them and there are truly NO words for how absolutely horrible the experience has been. Yes the prices look nice on paper but the process from start to finish is not worth the savings at all. They messed our cabinets up FOUR times. I’d rather pay the extra money and know that they are done right the first time. Save yourself the time and go with a more reputable company.

I remodeled my master bath last year and bought the vanity from Knox Rail Salvage. The quality was better than the big box store and better pricing .... This year Im remodeling two bathrooms. I again went to Knox Rail Salvage to search for vanities. Shawn was very helpful and knowledgeable. Both my vanities are odd sizes but he helped me get what I needed and helped with a sample to match a mirror I wanted to use. Lori was fabulous. She helped me get the best pricing. I am very pleased doing business here.

Joel personally helped with the design of our kitchen. But he went above and beyond when he helped me and a few other customers while his business was closed because of Covid 19.

Needs to get back to older n cheaper items

We were here to look at kitchen cabinets after speaking with Josh from Florida. The store was easy to find, it was really busy. Parking was at a premium but we managed. Josh was very helpful, he drew up the kitchen layout showed us the different cabinets and gave us an estimate. They also allowed us to go back and watch the cabinets being put together. The workers there were very informative and helpful. It looks like they take pride in their work and it was nice to see how the cabinets were put together.

Thanks Mark!!We had a major leak in our kitchen which resulted in a complete remodel. My search for an alternative to the Big Box stores prices led me to Knox Rail Salvage. The experience has been great from the beginning. As my contractor was installing the new cabinets, he found a manufacturing issue with some of the upper cabinets and other issues with my double oven cabinet. I called and was told that I could exchange them. Upon arrival, I met Mark. Once he looked at the cabinets, he went to work immediately to solve my problem. I could not have asked for anyone to be more accommodating. He truly understands the value of customer service! He went above and beyond to make sure everything was taken care of. It is no surprise that these folks have been in business so long. They really know how to treat their customers!

I worked with Curtis to arrange the layout of my kitchen. He was great to work with and my design is exactly what I wanted. He took extra time to find what I needed and did an excellent job. I highly recommend Curtis and Knox Rail, and the price can not be beat.

LOVE our new kitchen cabinets! We went with shaker white kitchen cabinets for our kitchen remodel. Couldnt be happier! We worked with Joel and Josh to design our new kitchen. Joel really took the time to review all of our dimensions and was extremely knowledgeable and thorough. Our quote was thousands less than other options; I was hesitant that we were sacrificing quality but had nothing to worry about! I am in and out this place every other day and the only thing wrong with place is they dont use any process to do anything except for ordering what you need if they are out now that good but most part i dont get why you haft to wait for 25 30 minutes to get your order after ording it and paying for it and noone their knows what comuacation is one hand dont talk to the other hand other than that great place good people and i will always bring my business here good pricses on everything

I visited this store on June 14 and purchased some lumber from them.On our way out our trailer broke and we were stranded in the alley next to their store. While we were waiting on help to arrive not one but two of their employees came back after hours to check on us and see if they could do anything to help. To my husband and I that was way beyond customer service. To those employees we would like to express our thanks and appreciation. Knox Rail is eclectic. It has a great variety of both decorative Cabinetry as well as flooring many choices in an old Warehouse. Overall great fun!

Josh Campbell helped us design our kitchen answered all our questions and gave us design options we hadn’t thought of. Him and the other staff we encountered at Old City’s Kitchens were all very nice and accommodating. Highly recommended!

Found a well made 48 Wood! Bath vanity with 6 soft close drawers for $ 379.00. Compared to the online and big box junk, this is a dream. You can chose the type of countertop and sink. Also found some waterproof laminate for the floor. If you have not checked this out, your making a mistake!

After taking a few years off from construction, I was amazed to see the changes that Knox Rail Salvage has made! The staff is just as friendly and helpful as always! Their stock is displayed and much better organized than previous experiences, so if youve had issues in the past, I encourage you to revisit the store and see the changes and upgrades they have made, and are continuing to make. They also have a much larger selection of doors, cabinets, flooring, and much more than I remember in years past. 5+ stars!

The place is very unorganized I agree. Sometimes the people are helpful, but the lack of prices on items does not provide a pleasant shopping experience. I especially do not like paying retail prices for salvage items. Every time that I have suggested lowering the prices, the management defends the products as being high quality. I feel that they should lower the prices to move inventory and increase turnover--my $.002.

I recently moved and needed to buy a pantry that matched the other kitchen cabinets. I checked Lowes and Home Depot and they could not help me. I looked on-line at Knox Rail Salvage and found what I thought was a perfect match. I went on my lunch hour, purchased the pantry, and my husband picked it up the same day. We are building a new home and are carefully checking prices of building materials. Knox Rail Salvage has the best prices for quality products. In fact I took one sample to another competitor and they said...for that price, I want some for my home. The employees are extremely helpful and very polite...every single one we spoke to. They held the flooring we wanted (with just a phone call) and after we paid are working with us on keeping it until our builder is ready for delivery. They answer all of our questions and provide the best customer service we have had since we started the building process. Weve been back for kitchen planning and were very surprised at all of the options they have. Weve been pricing cabinets at the Big Box Stores and Knox Rail has far more options when it comes to upgrades and cabinet sizes than the competitors for in-stock items, with lower prices. I ventured into Knox Rail Salvage after hearing about them on the radio. My husband and I were renovating our kitchen on a tight budget and we were looking for high quality products for low prices. After shopping and receiving quotes from the big box stores, I took my quotes to Joel to see if he could beat it. Knox Rail Salvage blew the big box stores quote out of the water! I was able to get beautiful real wood high quality cabinets for 30% less than my quoted laminate low quality cabinets from the big box store. We saved over $1500 dollars on the cabinets alone!! I also found travertine tile for my back splash for a steal. My kitchen looks like a million bucks thanks to Knox Rail!! Furthermore, Joel and the guys at Knox Rail Salvage know how to treat their customers. The customer service is outstanding. They treated me like I was their best customer! They are always very helpful and can answer any of my remodeling questions. Im treated like Im special every time I shop at Knox Rail. The employees remember me, unlike big box stores where Im just another person. I recommend Knox Rail to all my friends and family. I had been looking for a vanity and vanity top for over a month... Going from home depot and other stores. I had gotten a quote from home depot and thought maybe I should look at railroad salvage... Glad I did ..I saved over $1580. By shopping at at railroad salvage.... Their customer service is outstanding.. Every employee I passed ask if they could help me with anything.. You dont get that service in the big box stores they run from you..
