Maleko Coffee is a very small corner shop in a hotel. The server was very nice and recommended some pastries. I opted for one of the coconut ball pastries and a vanilla frappe. I usually dont take cold drinks but today was very hot and humid. The vanilla frappe was perfect, not overly sweet like alot of places. The coconut pastry was also perfect and not overly sweet. The only downside is they dont let you sit in the shop, but pointed out a place I can sit in the hotel that had a electrical outlet. Very nice of her, she didnt have to do that.If you are near by, its worth to stop in and get anything.4 out of 5 stars because I couldnt sit in the coffee shop. I probably would have purchased more pastries if I was allowed to.
Terrible experience with this shop. I ordered a croissant sandwich, a bearclaw, and a caramel frap through doordash. The egg in the sandwich had a big eggshell in it and I tried to let that go and bit into it a second time but I just bit into more smaller eggshell pieces. Threw the sandwich away right then and there. The croissant part of the sandwich and the bear claw were both stale and just didn’t taste good. And the caramel frap tasted like straight up whey protein powder. Even the caramel syrup wasn’t good and I could only stomach a third of it. I hate that I paid for this, and now I have to order food from a different place since I couldn’t eat the food from here.
One of the best croissant sandwiches!!! They also have other delicious stuff. We also got a donut with sprinkles, a chocolate croissant and a Malasada with no filling. All of them were so good. It’s only our 2nd day in Hawaii so we’ll definitely be back. It’s just a little shot but the employees, food and price are 100% worth it!! I wish I had a picture of how good everything was!
Quick and fresh! We got malsadas, danish, and croissant sandwich and they were all delicious! The lady in the front was super sweet and helpful as well!
The iced latte and danish were delicious! The owner also does pizza at night right across! The pizza is also delicious. Owner is super nice and a fellow Midwesterner! He changed our lives by introducing us to mochi donuts and now we leave depressed because they are not available in Wisconsin. Do yourself a favor and visit!!
I saw all the great reviews.. so I ordered via Grubhub. Plain Malasadas ( which are my favorite), a frappe, and a blueberry scone. The malasadas were so dense, cold, and not light and airy. they were not like malasadas I’ve had from Leonard’s or from bakeries in the NS. These were not good I was so upset. My frappe was good tasting but huge chunks of ice and was chewing most of my drink. Haven’t had my blueberry scone yet, but I’m hoping it’s good.UPDATE. Blueberry scone was good!
I’ve loved everything bought there: scones, malasada, croissant, breakfast sandwich, everything! Usually end up going there for one thing and come out with three because everything looks so good. On top of everything, they are SO nice!Since I enjoyed the pastries so much, went back for pizza that they sell in the evening. There’s a wait but the owner is nice about it and texted us when our pizza was ready so we didn’t have to hang around. BOY was the wait worth it. Absolutely delicious!!
Delicious coffee. The place smells fantastic.
The owner was 100% customer friendly, he went above and beyond to serve us. I called at 6pm asking for malasadas, he said sure come on in Ill show you what I have, even thought was diner time and he was making pizzas. When we got there, the malasadas had just come out the oven (it was tomorrows batch). He went to another store to get his jelly guns and filled them infront of us, and then we had a friendly conversation for about 15mins. Excellent malasadas, we will be returning! Would attach pictures but we ate them to fast :)
Good spot to pick up coffee in the AM without waiting in the crazy long lines at the resorts in Waikiki.
I was there this morning and the counter person was not wearing a mask, was licking his fingers no gloves. I wont be back till after the pandemic which is a shame cuz I live right next door and the coffee is good.
The coffee and pastries were good but the guy who I assume was the owner was behind the counter with his mask under his chin, coughing all over the place. Im not even a mask police guy but if youre gonna cough in 2021, wear a mask.
Their mochi donuts are delicious. They’re only available a couple times a week.
This is not good coffee. I think the reviews are good because its under a hotel and most people cant tell the difference. In any case beans are old and stale, might as well use a Kuereg machine instead.
Iced coconut latte❤️.
Maleko has the greatest service and product.
Oh man I have not been disappointed, the bear claws are fantastic! This place has a great vibe, it’s in the Hawaiian Monarch Hotel check em out early since it’s a smaller place he sells out! Also call in if you have a big order and check out the pizza place right across ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Really fresh and delicious malasadas/pastries made daily! The shopowner is very kind and sociable too!
This is a must go pastry shop while in Honolulu! The pastries are beyond amazing, fresh, delicious. The owner is awesome and makes everything on sight and fresh the morning of - you can really taste the quality and effort he puts into his pastries. By far the best blueberry scone Ive ever had! The mango/cheese danish and filled malasada donut were incredible as well! We will definitely be back!
Very yummy breakfast and great prices
This place is an hidden gem in Waikiki. Situated at the ground floor of the Monarch condo. Mickey prepares amazing pastries and pizza at night. The bakery is just next door and you can see him working all night long. Open as from 5 AM it ensures the best breakfast in town. Cappuccino is top but everyone should try the almond croissant.
We love to travel to beautiful destinations in search of the locally owned hidden gems that offer us unique quality and extraordinary food experiences. Maleko Coffee + Pastries did not disappoint and was worth every step of our early morning 2 mile round trip walk from our resort in search of the raved about malasadas. We were welcomed by the very friendly and extremely talented owner who makes everything from SCRATCH!!! The food looked so amazing that we wanted one of everything! We enjoyed the delicious coffee and our breakfast pastries were so fresh and delectable that we made a second purchase leaving with a nice pastry variety for later. Highly Recommend! We will definitely be back!
Great offerings and prices. From the amazing cold brew to the great pastries and the surprisingly awesome pizza, 5 stars. Pizza was a complete shock how awesome it was. We stopped here each day for coffee too. Great gem
Late night Pizza is on point. dough/crust was perfect, wife and i got one to eat at the bar and boy were we surprised about the quality put into the pizza, talked with owner super genuine nice guy he preps stuff for his shop at night and makes pizza at the same time. the wife and i are now looking forward to get brunch here
Great coffee an excellent pastries!
Maleko was amazing. We were starving on our first morning in Waikiki and came down from the hotel ready to do some damage. We spotted Maleko and entered like an invading army. The pineapple & coconut muffins are to die for. Moist and full of pineapple tasting goodness. We hit up the seeded bagels and pigs in a blanket too. Nothing we had was bad. It’s all fresh made nightly right across the walkway. The prices are very good. Especially compared to other breakfast joints we tried while there. Sadly we didn’t get to try the pizza they sell directly out of the bakery door but everyone in the hotel raved about it. We always came back to Maleko for our morning muffin fix. A true hidden gem.
My favorite daily habit is walking over to Maleko for an iced cold brew coffee and a few pastries. My favorites are the malasadas below in my pic(guava, pineapple, coconut creme filled) and the mango muffin! Every time I’ve gone, the staff have always been super friendly and nice-very willing to answer any question you have like what flavor of the day they have. Their coffee is also more reasonably priced than surrounding cafes :)10/27/2018 UPDATE:Three months later and I still come by every day. Mornings I come by for my iced coffee and a breakfast sandwich and/or pastry :P Sometimes I grab a sweet snack for later in the day (way cheaper and fresh here than any snack downtown where I work). I finally walked over here after work to try their pizza and it was DELICIOUS. The dough was fresh, the toppings fresh, the cheese plenty and the sauce amazing. Its possibly the best pizza Ive had in a long time, just how fresh and amazing it tasted. Mark the owner definitely works hard and takes pride in what he does. I love this place and you will, too! Will definitely stop by more often after work for a fresh pie, round out my day full circle with Maleko! :D
Love this place great pasteries
This small, local bakery is absolutely amazing! The baker is very welcoming, the pastries are wonderful and seem to vary daily. We may have visited each day of our stay in Waikiki, except Sunday when it’s closed. I highly recommend anything with the mango filling!
Awesome awesome. Pastries, coffee, and pizza were all amazing. You have a friend in the island when you go into Marc’s shop. Thanks for helping make our trip to the island amazing.
These donuts are the best donuts youll find in Waikiki! They are so fresh, huge and a great price! Other delicious pastries and drinks available too! Vegan options as well!! Great place!
The best coconut iced latte Ive ever had, and the coconut pineapple muffin was amazing! All their baked goods are made fresh every night for the next day!! Definitely worth a visit!!!
Had our breakfast pastry everyday. They all are really nice and tasty. The owner also makes pizza in the store next door and they are great. The dough and pizza sauce are homemade.
Best pastry I had on the island. You guys gotta try the cream cheese & mango croissant. 🔥🔥 The best part the lady Nova is super sweet & helpful.
We had the pleasure of trying pizza from Maleko while we were vacationing in Hawaii recently. It was awesome!!! Highly Recommend!!! Thanks Marc...aka The Man Who Is Always Working!!!
Great place to enjoy a coffee and pastry 🤙
We just got back from our Honolulu vacation and stayed at Royal Monarch. Maleko is located at ground level of the building. They provide excellent service and great tasting pastries, treats and coffee. Prices cant be beat for the quality of goodies. Their Malasadas are great, everything is freshly made and the place is clean.
Unbelievably good. Everything I tried it was delectable and amazing. One of the best bakeries ever. Very good coffee as well. Highly recommended.
Awesome place for a pastry breakfast. The muffins are moist, and the coconut pineapple flavor is fantastic.I also had a blueberry muffin that delivered on all fronts.
It says they’re open until 1 pm on Sunday so we walked there for 20 min and it’s closed!!How is it difficult to change the time on google maps?!*we got there at 10:12 am
Pizzas are amazing!! Highly recommend, and mark is a great guy. We found this place by accident and found he does pizzas across the hallway in the evening, they are delicious
My wife brought me coffee and a breakfast sandwich from Maleko this morning on our first morning in Oahu. Both were absolutely delicious - she also mentioned me the gentleman who runs it in the morning told her that if there was any special flavor of pastry we wanted, to let him know and he would make it special for us to have the next day. So awesome!
For anyone wanting a decent coffee in Waikiki go see Mark at the Maleko Coffee Shop, downstairs in the Hawaiian Monarch Hotel in Niu St.Not only does he make great coffee, he also makes incredibly good muffins, danishes, malasadas, bearclaws and other pastries.Once we discovered this place we pretty much had breakfast covered every day of our holiday. To top it off, while hes making the next days pastries each night, Mark can also make you a damn good pizza. Highly recommended!
By far the best coffee I found while in Honolulu. The Malasadas were also incredible, I had one filled with coconut cream, plain and a cinnamon knit. All were delicious and a must try!
Delicious donuts and strong coffee. Mark the owner is a super hard worker and very friendly.
Had breakfast everyday there. Everything was amazing!! Good prices too.
Great little coffee spot with friendly staff, they do espresso coffees well.
Ordered pizza and it was the most amazing taste better than back home. Most likely going to come back to try one more before we leave. Good value for that size too.
Owner was kind and the palm pastry was delicious. I loved the coffee.
This place has the best coffee and the staff is very friendly. I had the best blueberry muffin of my life here. We went here almost every morning when we stayed at the Monarch hotel.
They have great coffee and pastries! The staff was so friendly everyday we visited! The goodies are made fresh daily so there is something different daily!
Great Pastries (Coconut Danish is fantastic) great people who work it too, very passionate about their work10/10
Great pastries in the morning, amazing pizza in the evening. One of the best pizzas Ive ever had
A friend of mine told me about how she fell in love with their malasadas when she tried them at a Farmers Market, but they had a store location where you can get them fresh along with your coffee, so I paid them a visit today. Very glad I did. I was very impressed with the overall quality of what they call a malasada but is more like a beignet in my book. One nice thing about going to the shop location to get their malasadas or again for me, beignets is that they fill them with the filling upon ordering. It really adds to the freshness of them filled doughnut. They had a number of other freshly made pastries to select from as well that looked equally as good and fresh. You can really tell they are made with care and perfection. They do have an espresso machine, so you can get a cup of your favorite classic coffee drink as well. Their is limited seating, so it is a mostly a to go place. There is also fresh made pizza as well, but I think I came to early for that and didnt see any to critique. This place is not easy to spot from the street, so you have to hunt a bit to find it. It is also closed by noon, so it is strictly a morning place for your morning pastry and brew. They do setup at the Waikiki Farmers Market on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so you can find them their in the late afternoon till early evening.Check them out, you wont be disappointed.
Oh, ONO!!! Beautiful smiles on the wonderful 2 wahines at the Hyatt Regency Farmer’s Market today!!!! Mahalo nui Loa for making my visit a warm aloha! I enjoyed the guava strudels and the croissant!gonna try make it early before Sunday Service, I would like to get a box filled with pastries for pot blessings at church!🕊♥️🌺🙏🥰💐🕊♥️♥️♥️♥️The pastries are sooooooo onolicious!!!😋😋😍🥰😍😍
Best coffee the dude was so cool loved the mom n pop atmosphere the cinnamon roll was fluffy and warm with frosting being so creamy the stuffed pastries were just melt in your mouth. Cinnabon sucks.
AMAZING coffee and Tasty guava filled pastry!! Great customer service!
Excellent coffee,flaky delicious pastries,friendly service.
Awesome coconut pineapple muffins and open early!! Love we found this place!!
Got Malasadas there was old custard tasted old, was not great
Great prices and top notch pastries.
Wouldn’t sell me food because I recently bought food from a competitor business ... why can’t I try them all. Guy was mad like I took his girlfriend or something. I asked to buy not for any free handouts. Owner making it seem like I didn’t have money in hand I was willing to buy in order just to get condiments .
Just awesome, thats why.
Delicious, friendly, and great prices!
Phenomenal!
We tried this place due to the recommendations of other guest at the hotel we are staying at. The coffee was subpar. The malasadas were not light, airy, or fresh tasting. Many flavors are listed on the menu, but only custard and mango were available. My husband ordered a caramel macchiato. He asked for one shot to find out it was pure milk. The owner said, one shot is pure milk. My husband asked for another shot and paid for it with no complaints it was our misunderstanding. We may not be coffee gurus, but I thought it was condescending how the owner spoke to us. Simply from our experience, we are not asked that on the mainland when ordering coffee. We pitched everything a block away. Even my latte was 2/3 foam and 1/3 coffee. I enjoy going to places where owners want to educate you and be kind about their product. We should have stayed at the Hale Koa or went to another place with all different available malasadas.
We ate banana frappuccino and chocolate danish, but it was delicious! If you order banana frappuccino, it will be made on the spot. There are several types of Danish, the inside is moist and the outside is soft.It is also used for breakfast catering when shooting a certain Japanese movie, and it is really delicious.Coffee is recommended because it has a low acidity and is easy to drink even for people who are not good at coffee! The next day, I came again. I ate cafe latte (number of shots: 1 or 2 can be selected), croissant and malasada. Croissants are said to be number one in Waikiki, but they are really delicious. The moist butter inside and the crunch on the outside are wonderful, and the malasada is fluffy. Malasada is a popular product that sells as many as 900 a day. The latte is round and delicious without bitterness! ! Recommended for bread lovers.
Very nice little cafe located directly in the condo tower in Wakiki. We were fetching coffee every morning during our stay and we were always very satisfied. The service is fast and the server very polite and welcoming. If you spend the evening in front of it, you can smell the smell of baked pastries 🤤
I have been using it since 5:30 in the morning, so it was useful during my stay.Hot coffee bitterness.
You can easily buy breakfast. Its open early in the morning so its very convenient when youre busy
Delicious coffee and very friendly service
