1. One of the very best places to get a latte in Greenville, and thats saying something because Greenville has some solid coffee shops.2. Easily the coolest, cleanest, chillest, hippest, most charming hostel Ive ever stayed at. With so many hotel options in Greenville, Modal offers a completely unique experience that lets you avoid the crowds. Modal is also super well located just a few blocks from Main Street, with its own free parking, and thats a huge plus now that parking in downtown Greenville is getting a little scarce. Lastly, although Greenville has some pretty great restaurant options, the amazing kitchen, which is available to guests, allows you to take your cooking to entirely new levels. (The kitchen alone is worth staying there.) I recommend Modal x3,000.PS: Modal is super inclusive, so you will always feel safe and welcome there.

I would highly recommend staying here.- The owner/manager has a background in design so the place looks great.- Super fast wifi- Beautiful waterfall shower with plenty of hot water and great water pressure- Comfortable shared spaces with a nice outdoor deck- About a 10 minute walk to downtown- Shared full kitchen if you want to cook anything- Coffee is terrific- Staff and guests were friendly. Staff gave me some great suggestions. The interaction is a lot more personal than staying at a chain hotel.- Beds are very comfortable- Lots of art. The hostel features rotating works of art from local artists on the walls.I had planned to just stay one night and I ended up staying three. I stayed in the private room with the queen bed. The room is small but comfortable. I met some friendly and interesting people. It is a hostel and a coffee shop so much of the place is shared space.

I stayed in the private room which is what I was looking for and had a lovely experience: room was spotless, comfortable bed and sheets, amazing public goods toiletries provided, and literally the best shower of my life. there’s a communal kitchen and snacks and drinks available for a low cost, as well as ample living space and free parking. everyone - employees and other guests alike - was so kind and welcoming and it was an incredible experience all around! I’m already booked to come back here and I recommend it to anyone looking for a place to stay in Greenville!!

Had a great time here at Modal! I was in the downstairs room, most hotel-like room and loved it! It was HUGE, so cute, and the private bathroom was the best! Keep in mind, that it is downstairs right in the common area, so you might hear people talking late at night in the common spaces. It honestly was not a problem at all though and was very quiet once I fell asleep. I did have an issue with the air at night as it was pretty hot in my room. I sent them a text message and within 5 minutes someone responded and adjusted the air! I would definitely stay here again and think would be a great and fun place to bring a group of friends to stay. Highly recommend!

My wife and I loved this place! We had to be in Greenville for an event but wanted something different. When I stumbled upon this hostel, I was a bit apprehensive at first – not knowing if it might get loud – you never know what kind of guests will be sharing the house. Thats why I made sure to book the private room. There was an event there with music, but it was great music and it ended exactly when they said it would! Overall, we were not at all disappointed! The location is great (easy walk or short drive to downtown restaurants), the staff was super friendly and fun, and the whole place was incredibly clean and well decorated. In fact, the artsy and hip décor seemed very well thought out! Did I mention its also a very cool coffee shop that also serves food and beer? AND that everything is local – from the milk and to the beer? I would highly recommend this beautiful little spot. We would surely stay here again!

Honestly one of the best places I have ever stayed at. The beds were comfortable, storage was spacious, rooms were super clean, access multiple wall outlets and USB ports, waterfall shower, and above all INCREDIBLE STAFF. It was also very close to attractions and restaurants. 5/5, you just have to stay here.

I happened across Modal when I was waiting for my daughter to be admitted to the hospital in Greenville. It was the closest coffee shop where I would be able to quickly get back when needed. It was the perfect combination of art gallery, peaceful and inviting atmosphere, and great coffee and scones this frantic mom needed. The guests were friendly and the barista kind, I couldn’t have asked for a better place to sit and wait. I found the books interesting and all of the furnishings very tasteful. What a special place!!! Thank you to all who were so kind to me and to the owner for creating such a beautiful place to go!

I love, love, love this place! Probably the nicest place Ive ever slept, very chic yet comfortable. I felt very safe and everything was clean. Modal is top luxury experience for less $ than a motel. I also loved the community kitchen. Sometimes people shared food and there was an instant community among travelers. I plan on making a trip from FL to Greenville SOLELY to stay at Modal again!

A neat little gem close to downtown. This was my first time staying at a hostel. The room I stayed in was neat, simple, and extremely clean. I had a room with a bathroom which was equally as enjoyable with a rain shower head. I didn’t get to enjoy the wine & coffee bar though. Not that it was bad, I just didn’t use it since I left before it was opened. Same with breakfast which starts at 730. My room was a bit loud being on the first floor. They said they were going to have an event that night. I’m not sure if it’s weekly or just a one time thing, which I was told about upon checking in for the evening. I would like a tv in my room vs having to use my phone.

Modal is such a sweet and cozy stay for anyone! We enjoyed the staff and the ambience of the hostel so much! We stayed in the private Ambedo room and the only issue we had was it was extremely hot in our room. We noticed that it was significantly cooler in the hallways so we contacted the provided number but never felt the air come on the entire night. Otherwise it was amazing!

Perfect spot! So cozy and welcoming. Super close to all the cool Greenville things to do. We had such a great time, the staff was so helpful, the other guests were so nice and to top it all off the coffee and wine was excellent as well.Great touches to make you feel at home, but upgraded to feel like a special get away. Wonderful place to stay in Greenville! Truly lives up to the motto of being more than just a hostel. We recently stayed here while attending a wedding and Modal was the perfect spot for us. There are many different bedding and room options to fit your needs. I recommend taking the 3D tour on their website to see the whole place and then read the descriptions of all the rooms/beds. All of that will give you a good sense of the space and should help you decide what is best for you. The rooms and beds were luxurious! Depending on your room you might have a private or shared bathroom. All the bathrooms are lovely and offer access to shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and lotion. There are great shared spaces like the kitchen and living/dining areas. And, if that wasn’t enough, there’s a fantastic coffee and bar area where you can buy drinks. I highly recommend their lattes! All of the staff were super friendly and helpful. We also got to meet the owner and he’s just terrific! Honestly, this place a true gem! You have easy access to downtown Greenville via walking or a short drive. I highly recommend Modal and hope to return in the future!

Had a great stay at Modal. Regan at reception was helpful, kind, and welcoming. Love the coffee shop/co-working aspect of the space too. As soon as we arrived, we ordered some cappuccinos and hung out in the lobby. Everything was clearly designed with care and thought, and incredibly clean. Ive certainly never seen a hostel quite like it, and there are even private rooms, which is where we stayed and have no complaints.

Second stay at Modal in the last five weeks, so let that statement speak to something. My first visit (solo), I booked the Ambedo, and this most recent visit (with a friend), the Hwyl. The intention that the owners/staff have put into common areas and guest rooms is apparent (the floor to ceiling tile! the wood floors! the plants!) Beds, linens, towels are ultra comfortable, and showers are fantastic. Theres some light noise from other guests as theyre also moving about, but this said, on both my visits everyone was very respectful (part of a true guest house experience)! Just about a ten minute walk to downtown, too. Ill be back!

PERFECT PLACE FOR ME. This was my first time staying at a hostel. I fell in love with it. Whenever I come to Greenville.. this is where I’ll stay. Facilities are clean and comfortable. I stayed in the Chrysalism Queen. I was very comfortable. Very spacious. Staff was great and attentive. The Modal is Walking distance to EVERYTHING, downtown, parks, shops, restaurants and more.

I had the chance to stay at the Modal hostel last week and was so impressed with the experience I felt like I needed to write a review. The first thing that strikes you upon entering the building is how clean and modern the overall aesthetic is. At the same time, it also feels cozy and intimate. Having spent a lot of time in some really grungy hostels, this place was a breath of fresh air. In terms of amenities, I was blown away to have received my own towel and vanity kit upon arrival and the rooms themselves are really nice. Beds were super comfortable and each bunk had multiple plugs and a large locker that lock with your key card. The shared spaces were just as high quality; huge kitchen with modern appliances, dining table and all the tools you would need to make meals. If you’re a lazy bum like me, there is even a continental breakfast every morning of fruit, bagels and granola bars etc. Above all else, the people that work there are very nice and genuine. You can tell they care deeply about the overall experience and wanted to make this place something special. Pair all that with a downtown location and very affordable rates. I’ll most definitely be back. Thanks y’all!

The most clean and elegant hostel I have ever visited. The space was designed beautifully and the concept of having a coffee shop/bar downstairs was fun and convenient, as I would just walk downstairs and work at the table for a few hours before leaving. Perks also include full kitchen, fluffy towels, amazing rainfall shower, and inviting deck. Looking forward to staying here next time I am in town!

Awesome hostel! Breakfast and coffee is great. The hostel is always clean and the kitchen is perfect for making meals. The pods are very well designed to provide privacy with charging ports and lights. The waterfall shower is a huge bonus, allowing you to relax. Staff are readily available to help with any needs but not overbearing. Had a great stay and would stay again!

I am relocating to Greenville and needed temporary lodging before I can close on my next house. This Hostel was nice and clean. I enjoyed being able to use the kitchen to cook some meals. I would stay here again.

My first hostel experience and it was awesome! Joe, the owner went above and beyond to accommodate what I needed while I was staying there. Breakfast was always laid out and healthy. The staff, Mckayla and Reagan were always so friendly and made me feel right at home. Prices are very reasonable and I would highly recommend this place .

This was mine and my friends first hostel experience and it exceeded our expectations! It was extremely clean and everyone was super friendly. The owner gives you his number to text if there are any issues or questions which I thought was super helpful. The beds were super comfy (felt like memory foam not your typical rock-hard hotel bed). There was another review saying how cold it was (yes it was on the chillier side, if you’re like me you prefer it that way) but you warm right up with how thick the comforter is and the owner was so friendly I know he’d make accommodations if you ask. The shower pressure was 10/10 and so was their coffee! Location is within walking distance of downtown. I’ll definitely be going back!!

We live in Greenville and wanted to check it out so we stopped in for a coffee and ended up having a great chat with Joe, the owner, for 45 minutes and got a sweet tour of the place. It felt like home... which is hard to do in a common shared space. The design is smart and sleek, I have traveled to over 35 countries and it felt like I was in another part of the world. I will be sending friends there for sure! ( great coffee too)

I just so happen to stumble upon this place and Im glad I did! Its super clean and an artsy atmosphere. And walking distance to the downtown area. This was my first hospital experience and it was awesome!

Its like staying in a home away from home in all the best ways. I stayed in the private queen room for my 5 night stay. Its tastefully decorated, super clean, with a comfy bed and the shower is a luscious experience. The whole place is beautifully decorated and the art vibe is an added plus. Really cool. Parking is convenient. The staff is helpful and friendly. They were always up for a chat. Like a little more privacy? Theres plenty of nooks around the shared space to do your thing. The coffee is delicious. Havent we all woken up in hotel to lackluster coffee? Not the case here. I will definitely stay at Modal again when i come to Greenville next time. We stayed 2 nights at Modal Cafe and would recommend a million times over. The space is beautiful and inviting, rooms were clean, it’s a 10 min walk from downtown Greenville and the staff were super friendly/helpful with providing recommendations.

I’ve stayed here twice now and absolutely love it. I live 5 minutes away so I could easily stay home but Modal is a perfect staycation away from home. The owner is super friendly and very nice. He’s there if you need any assistance or just want to strike up a great conversation. The space is uniquely designed and offers several sitting areas as well as a few games to play. They’re also several really cool art books, cabin and design books, and other cool reads. It’s an inviting place to just sit back and hang out at. I encourage anyone looking for a different type of stay to go here and enjoy the common areas and the bar area for some afternoon beers and early morning coffee! I’ll definitely be staying again soon.

Went in for coffee. Loved the coffee. They also had an interesting variety of beers. The NOBEL cider was really good. The atmosphere is young but there was a lot of energy! Its a great place to chill for local greenvillians. If you need a place to stay while visiting the kitchen is amazing and very well stocked on dishes. The art is wild. I love the current exhibit. Im excited to see what comes next!

The hostel was absolutely fabulous. Very clean and centrally located to everything in GVL. I stayed in the Hwyl room and the beds were very comfortable, better than any hotel Ive been to. The staff was amazing. I was there during Queer night and it was so much fun. The love put into the home is very clear and it is very affordable. I plan on staying there again and again.

I really enjoyed staying at Modal! It was super clean, provided breakfast in the mornings, and I felt very safe. The only issue I had was how hot it got in the rooms. It wasnt so bad the first night, but I couldnt sleep at all the second night. Im thinking something was probably just wrong with the air. I would definitely reccomend Modal to friends!

Wow! This was my first Hostel stay/experience and I truly dont want to leave. Upon check-in, I had the pleasure of meeting Joe who I assume is an owner. He showed me around, gave the feeling of being home away from home. This includes great parking, open kitchen with a snack and drinks bar,, available around the clock.. Laundry services is available and is handled with great care and done with top of the line equipment. Every touch and inch of this place is with excellent quality and detail. Super cool art from local artist is displayed in perfect places yet not at all congested within the modern feel and look. The sleeping spaces felt very private as they fulfill having your own space and ability to just tuck away from everything. My hopes is anyone who stays here helps support this wonderful place, while also helping to preserve its greatness. Clean, amazing, quality, comfort, calm, convenient and economical. Best place to stay in Greenville hands down!

My wife and I discovered Modal by searching the internet for a place to stay in Greenville that was close to Fluor Stadium. We traveled from Georgia to go to a Greenville Drive baseball game and to visit the Shoeless Joe Jackson Museum, near the stadium. We went to a night game at the stadium and even walked about a third of a mile to and from the game.We found Modal to be cozy, clean, inviting and fun. The employees were welcoming and assisted us to find a really nice restaurant in downtown Greenville, a short drive from Modal.Our private room was delightful with a queen bed and its own shower. The room is beautiful with local art on the wall and a really comfortable bed. Modal is about one year old, so everything is fresh. We even had a station next to our bed to recharge our phones, which sure was handy.Modal is a hostel and a coffee shop for locals, and it was the first time that either of us had been in a hostel. We found there to be a nice mix of visitors in the common areas. Everyone that we passed by were friendly and thoughtful.We enjoyed our experience at Modal very much, and found the price of our room to be a super value. By the way, we also discovered downtown Greenville to be a cool place to find all types of nice restaurants to dine in.It was a fun experience and we’ll definitely come back if we’re in the area.

I really enjoyed staying at Modal! My husband and I stayed the night to celebrate Valentines Day and Joe (the owner) was incredibly attentive to our needs. He even let us into our room at 1 am when we managed to both forget our room keys. The interiors are very modern and beautiful and the entire place has a fun innovative aesthetic.

My stay here was such a delight and accommodating, from arrival to departure, the vibes and hospitality made me feel at home, extraordinary to say the least. Granted that it’s considered to be hostel, but its nothing like any hostel I have been to, immaculate, clean, and pristine at every corner I turned to and the numerous lounge areas they have to offer makes your stay feel like home away from home. I was not expecting my stay to be as great as it was, the images of Modal found on the web doesn’t do justice to the gem that Modal has to offer. Its instagram worthy and pintrest perfect. The coffee is amazing (especially the warm lavender mocha). Beds are super comfy, bathrooms have rainfall showerheads! Absolutly will be staying here every single time i am in Greenville. Its also a 30min walk from the Falls on the Reedy Park, and only a 5min car ride.

Our ladies cycling group went to Greenville, SC for some fun and cycling - in the middle of a pandemic! The facility was perfect! I loved my stay here! Joe is a great host and very thoughtful of his guests. The place was incredibly clean and the interior was beautiful and minimal and just pleasant to be in. My bed was really comfortable and I slept great. Other perks: fast WiFi, lots of space to work, clean bathroom, awesome coffee shop downstairs. No complaints and I would definitely stay again!

Really cool, unique place to stay. Excellent location and the attention to detail in the design and service was great. Only downside was that the clerestory window in the room allowed an excessive amount of light from the streetlights into the room, making it more difficult to fall asleep.

Basically the vibe is: fancy public library in an affluent town you will never be able to afford living in.Complete with nice chairs, art, books, and a crippling sense of dread that youll never be able to achieve the economic standing of your parents and really, why dont I just move out to Alaska and die from eating bad shrooms or something?

My husband and I stopped by Modal to have a beer this past weekend and... what a beautiful space?!? With easy parking and the proximity to downtown it is a fantastic space for a coffee or beer or a weekend getaway.

We dropped by while walking the dog and got a (great) cup of fresh brewed coffee. They are the nicest folks and have done a beautiful job on their decor!

This place is really something special and is clearly making a mark on the city of Greenville. The hospitality of Joe and his team makes everyone feel instantly cared for and at-ease. The stylish lobby is perfect for anything from a home-away-from-home office to a backdrop for an impromptu photoshoot.The welcome desk doubles as a coffee shop with sweet treats by day and a beer + wine bar by night.I was especially excited by the their Thursday Queer Night (6-8pm); creating a much needed space for the LGBTQIA+ community in GVL and beyond.I cant wait to come back again and again.

Such a cool space! Staff was incredibly helpful and informative. Loved all of the different shared spaces and the beds were extremely comfortable. Best hostel Ive ever stayed in!

I stayed here overnight in the single queen room for Easter weekend. This place is immaculate! Very clean, very organized, beautiful, and minimalist jn the best sense. I wasn’t expecting such attention to detail, but from the plants in the waterfall-like shower to the tiny vanity packets with nail file, cotton makeup pads, and Q-tips, I felt like I was staying in a MUCH higher priced place! No, there’s no TV in the room, the room is smaller than usual, and most of the other rooms are bunks, but if you can deal with that then this place is a gem! (They do have wi-fi and multiple room plugs.) Might I also add that there’s free breakfast and a free cup of drip coffee from the *in-house coffee shop*? There are also recycle bins, local goods, filtered air, and more natural toiletries. Everything about this place says that the owner cares and I look forward to staying there again.

Modal -Coffee & Hostel was everything and then some. This is not your average run of the mill type of hostel. When we arrived, we were greeted by Reagan who had the most welcoming attitude and willingness to assist if we needed it. Reagan gave us a tour and explained some of the story about Modal. One thing I really enjoyed is it felt very welcoming. It was very nice to be able to grab a beer or glass of wine or coffee and go sit outside on the deck and socialize with friends and other guest. I really loved that it was LGBTQIA friendly and they try to use and support local Greenville products and businesses to the best of their abilities. Makayla (hope I am spelling it right) and Joe were very helpful in the morning with breakfast and coffee. They provided free breakfast and coffee. The common areas and atmosphere we very inviting and relax and I enjoyed just sitting looking at the local art, and meeting new people who were guest and patrons of the coffee shop/cafe. Having the ability to use the kitchen was very very nice as my friends and I made dinner the two nights we stay at Modal, and they had everything you needed. The kitchen was up to date and there was plenty of plates and utensils. We stayed in the two queen private room. Beds were very comfortable and room decorated very well and the BATHROOM!!!! You will love the shower!!!! I am a big TV watcher especially at bed time and this was a great detox from TV and to be very honest I did not miss having a television because I was able to engage with my friends, other guest, the staff, and it also forced me to get out and see Greenville. Next time I am in Greenville this is where I will be staying at Modal without a doubt. #BrandNewLiving

A place that touches ones heart and soul with its pristine atmosphere and the depth of its art and decor.

Modal is a rare gem in the bedrock of hostels. Sparkling clean, stylish, and filled with light, love, and hospitality. Delicious breakfast. My partner, Joe, and I were in Greenville for the day and lost our keys. After back tracking our steps, we found them, but realized the day was getting late and we were tired. The drive home felt unlikely, so I searched for hotels, inns, and hostels in the area. Hotels were expensive, inns were full, but Modal immediately answered the phone and assured us two beds in the bunk room would be waiting. When we arrived, Joe at Modal greeted us warmly, showed us around the hostel, and made us feel very welcomed and comfortable. Pluses: Art space, design, welcoming to travelers, and Queer space. Everything to love.

One of the best and most welcoming places I have ever been to. Staying here was so relaxing. I would love to be able to come back here again.
