An absolute gem. I love supporting book stores. The entry way is a photographers dream. The ambience and decor is inviting. Each section has books that are recommended and some have hand written notes on why it has been chosen as a pick.I could have spent hours in there, I only spent about 30 minutes. The checkout had a small line, but it moved quickly. I think a book store is where a person should be patient, practice not being rushed, and enjoy their surroundings.

Great little bookstore - with a coffee shop.Of course the main reason I came here was I needed a coffee, so lets start there. The coffee menu, to me, is way too heavy on the coffee desserts. You know, add enough sweet stuff that so it doesnt taste like coffee anymore. The waitstaff were friendly and polite and I asked if they could make me a cortado - which wasnt on the menu. It was excellent. Not too sour, or bitter. It was a little on the small side, so when I came back the next day, or ordered a double:)Oh yea, the bookstore...Great place to browse and hang for a bit. Nice selection of titles. The bookstore seems to have a college student slant to it - plenty of social justice. Yet the selection also includes classics and local writers as well. The childrens section was also very good.Throw in some giftware, local BBQ sauces and other delicacies and its a nice place to spend some time.

Tucked away in the old courthouse building downtown, this independent bookstore has something for everyone. I was impressed by the variety of books they have managed to work into an open and breathable space. The gifts available here are unique and right on target for anyone looking for the perfect offbeat gift for any occasion. I chose not to partake in the coffee, tea, or treats this time; however the kitchen itself has a good range of offerings to suit many tastes. Highly recommend for a fun and relaxing shopping trip.

Totally in love with this small bookstore, with built in Café serving great coffees, wines, desserts, gifts and of course, BOOKS! Lots of great selections including top lists, local literature, and most importantly a lovely staff that is super helpful as they are knowledgeable and delightful! Enjoyed a great Dark Pine 1/2 caf, 1/2 decaf coffee while buying books and gifts for the kids for Christmas. A must on any visit to Greenville!

Wonderful bookstore with handwritten reviews from the staff. Also has a nice selection of childrens books, with sub-sections for middle grades and young adults. Our favorite find was the Blind Date section. The books were wrapped in brown paper, and a short summary was handwritten on the front. We bought two of these books and are excited to begin reading!

This is the bookstore that Barnes & Noble always wanted to be but tried too hard. This is the high water mark for all independent book stores. Its a place that you want to go to and a place you want other people to go to, as well. Youre likely to run into an author, a friend, or the hero or villain of a book youve read. The events they have that circulate around the written word are noteworthy. Come for the books, stay for the characters. Have a cup of coffee.

Where I go to get my books mostly.. I do order some books online, but the vast majority of my books come from M.Judson because I like to be out and about in my town going from door to door as it were. I also like the fact that I dont always have an idea of what book I want next and the people of this particular bookshop are very helpful and informative about the options they provide. Honestly Id love to work there but Ive noticed that the staff are made up of the female persuasion exclusively- which I aint mad about.

A Blind Date with a Book Engagement Proposal that you must read....A few years ago, April (my girlfriend of 2 years) and I took a spontaneous trip to Greenville from Columbia for our first date. We spent the day walking around Falls Park and shops downtown. For the proposal, I thought it would be the perfect time to take her back to where it all began. Knowing she is sentimental, I created a custom book detailing the story of how we met and why I love her. To make this moment special and a surprise, I contacted the bookstore M. Judson Booksellers to be in on the staging of the book in the store for her to find. Arrangements were made for April and I to stay at the Embassy Suites, January 31, 2020 thru February 2, 2020. We checked into the hotel around 2:30ish and shortly thereafter walked downtown. One of our first stops was the bookstore. Before we left the hotel, I called the store to give them a heads up we were coming their way.Inside the store they had strategically wrapped the book and placed it in their Blind Date with a Book section. A Blind Date with a Book is a hand wrapped book, carefully curated from a wide range of popular genres that is tagged with intriguing clues alluding to the book inside. Over the past few years, April has grown to love me reading to her and the reason we stopped in the bookstore was to find a book for me to read to her. Once at the store, I said to April let’s ask the staff on duty if they recommend a good book. We approached the checkout counter and was greeted by Kaitlyn. She suggested why not select a random book from the Blind Date with a Book section. When we walked over there, April quickly picked the one that had been written with clues about us and our relationship to grab her attention. It read, in beautiful calligraphy handwriting (written by Kaitlyn):• From Oregon to South Carolina• Male nurse and single father• “I Love You” written on a rock• Rare love story• Matching avocado tattoos• Read with coffeeApril looked at me in shock and I encouraged her to unwrap it. Once unwrapped, the title read “Our Love Story” and she began reading each page. Once at the last page, it read “I cannot wait to turn the next page and begin writing our next chapter. Will you marry me?” April was overwhelmed with emotions.....and I was too. I dropped to one knee, started with the words “the wait is over,” professed my love and asked the all-important question! She said, “YES!!”I then fell to the ground celebrating myself. I felt like Froddo Baggins making it to the fires of Mount Doom in success, LOL. I was not alone, as everyone around us celebrated too. I then stood up and gave April the biggest hug!The staff of the store were so thoughtful and attentive throughout all of this! A special thank you to Felicia, Maria, Mary and Gina!!!! A warm thank you to the many other hands and staff that made this possible. In fact a majority of the staff were in the store and just secretly posed as customers as it all unfolded. I am still in awe typing the details now! It happened exactly the way they describe in books and movies I guess, LOL. The only difference is that our story is real and still being written. We sat down with each of them, caught our breath and shared in the joy of the moment. Truly, M.Judson is more than a bookstore and the staff of this wonderful place are what make it shine! The staff at M. Judson Booksellers were so kind to not only set this all up, but also gifted us a beautiful box of heart shaped cookies and truly made this a special moment we will never forget!!! What a beautiful start to this new chapter in our love story.

I went here a few years ago and the book selection was larger, not vast or varied, but larger. It was a quiet, cosy bookshop with comfortable chairs, reading nooks, and something for everyone. Now, the shop is leaning more heavily towards being a café than a bookstore, with an emphasis on cookbooks and contemporary fiction/nonfiction. It was still quiet, but the comfort and warmth are gone (or nearly...I experienced moments of cosiness), and in their place is Starbucks with books (or a much, much smaller, more narrowly selective Barnes & Noble). Not everyone would consider that a con, but I want my bookstores to be about *books*. Furman U shirts? Map tea-towels? If they offered book-related items as well, thatd be one thing, but there were no Keep Calm and Read Books shirts or tea-towels emblazoned with any of the countless literary quotes.Want a desk-plaque that reads CEO of Not Giving a F*** or a Where are My F****** Keys?! trinket dish? Theyve got plenty of those. Or maybe a pot of over-priced body butter, cocktail stirrers, or wineglass charms? Youre in luck! Its a mish-mash of trendy, tacky, and tourist, and some people love that kind of thing. But not me. Not in a bookstore anyway. If I wanted a South Carolina mug, Id go to a souvenir shop and buy one for 1/4 of the price.Im happy to give indie shops my full support, and Ill happily recommend it to my friends (I know not everyones taste is identical to mine, and I *do* respect that...I can actually think of a friend whod love this place and say I was an idiot). I encourage fellow book-worms to go in open-minded; maybe youll enjoy your experience more than I did.I will say this: I had an adventure and I took some great photos. If they put the book back in bookstore, maybe Ill warm up to the place.
