I heard they had remodeled the place and upgraded their equipment. The place looks great but the remodel isnt quite done and turns out theyre under new ownership too, so will definitely have to go back and see how it all comes together. The service was really great and the drinks and cinnamon rolls are are awesome.
The new remodel totally changes the feel of this place. Missing a lot of the local and home-y feel that this place used to have and make it more unique than all the others. Staff was super nice as always and the coffee was good. Prices went up.EDIT after some research the new remodel is not totally finished. Hopefully they add in some local flair that keeps it down to earth.
Cute spot, I can vouch for the coffee and muffins! The barista was super friendly and I ended up buying a pair of earrings from a little display next to the register. A great place to read and escape the rain. My first visit was 6/27/21 so I have no context for what the place used to look like but I look forewords to the renovations hopefully making the space feel a bit more homey (I’ve seen that the new management reads these - so a personal note: I would recommend something to make the main room less echo-y, there are many budget friendly hacks that can help!)Looking forewords to many more visits!
Great coffee. Barista very kind and knowledgeable. Recently updated the interior. Definitely going to be a regular stop. Also, one of Grand Rapids oldest coffee shops.
Common Ground is my favorite coffee shop in Grand Rapids, which is convenient because it’s just down the block from my house. I hadn’t been in over a year due to wanting to be a safe as possible against COVID. When I went today I was thoroughly impressed by the safety measures they had in place, and had I known how careful they were I would have gone back sooner! The coffee is delicious, and I just love the atmosphere of the place. Many coffee shops in the area I find to be too pretentious, but I don’t feel Common Ground is that way at all! I will for sure be going back often.
Great coffee/espresso and baked goods. Parking in rear. Cute remodel.
Common Ground has a very inclusive and laid-back/hipster atmosphere. The barista was very friendly and fast with our lattes, and they were delicious! I enjoyed one of their special lattes available for Women’s history month, the “Ruth Bader Ginsburg”.
Love this little eclectic coffee shop on Fulton--especially that they show such great support for local artists and companies! Literally the cheapest mom & pop coffee shop in town too, which is such a nice change from the over-priced big name shops. Cozy atmosphere where you can spend hours reading, playing board games, or just warming up by a window. A must-try for any #SmallBusiness coffee lover. See photo for an avenue to send help to those suffering in Australia currently as well! ❤️
Reliable, fair priced and organic coffee. I go often and am never disappointed.
UPDATED HOURS: 7AM-2PM M-F 8AM-2PM SAT & SUNOne of my favorite local coffee shops. Great coffee, very friendly & helpful staff, tasty baked goods, really nice interior and their prices are fantastic.Definitely worth checking out if you need your caffeine or muffin fix. They also feature local art & music and their featured drinks menu is cool & inventive. Ive seen drinks inspired by Parks & Rec, Always Sunny in Philadelphia and more.
One of the most welcoming cafes in downtown Grand Rapids. Great staff and incredible art work all around you. Highly recommended!
Love you guys! ☺️
Good dark espresso, balanced coffee, cute unique art, charming regulars.
Always a great place to meet up. I enjoy the selection of tea, and the staff is great.
Great coffee, wonderfully pleasant baristas, and gender neutral bathrooms.
Great little coffee shop, chill atmosphere, lots of nice artwork to look at and buy. They have a rotating specialty coffee theme each month that is fun to do. Rewards card to get punched for each drink you buy, at the end you can turn it in with a chance to win a free bag of coffee.
Super friendly staff and relaxing atmosphere. It was wonderful to meet with friends, because we could hear each other talk without a bunch of music blasting like many other coffee shops tend to do. Also, it was open later on a Friday which was awesome.
So sad I didnt go inside! Next time, Ill go inside and gets pictures and hubby can sit in the car with the sleeping kiddo in the back seat. However, he brought me out an iced Golden Sword and it was amazing!! Definitely going back next time Im in the Grand Rapids area.
One of my favorite coffee shops! Know it and love it for what it is. This aint Starbucks, nor is it Madcap. It doesnt have the pricing or attitude of the trendy shop du jour. Common Ground is the perfect place to grab a quality cup of coffee and read a book, catch up with friends, study, or just watch the world go by. Everything you need, nothing you dont.
I absolutely love this place! The couch is amazingly comfortable, the coffee and tea are great, and the staff is incredibly friendly. I come here every Wednesday for hours on end to get some work done and am always pleased with my visit.
Coffee is good & well-priced. Cozy place to sit down and do some work.
Mighty comfy, simple place. Courteous and prompt service from baristas. Nice variety of coffees. Like to go there whenever Im in Grand Rapids.
Cute cafe, interesting decor and quite varied seating. A great place to grab food (muffins, etc) a cup of coffee, and relax. Prices are comparable to non-chain shops, the decaf I had tasted good. Swing by and see a neat local place!
Good place
Kind people and great coffee! I would highly recommend their seasonal specials!
The coffee is great and there are numerous options! One of the people I was with doesnt like coffee or tea and they were still able to get something (Italian Pop and they also have French pop, which is Italian with cream)
Love this place.
One of my favorite study spots. Friendly staff and excellent atmosphere. Feels like a different world.
I loved this place. When I went today, they had Parks and Recreation-themed drinks on the board to your right when youre at the register, and I am huge fan of both coffee and the show. They were so perfect and well thought out, which made me feel like this was my kind of place and we would have an easy time understanding each other on a personal level. I got the Andy Dwyer (caramel and butterscotch flavored latte with whipped cream and caramel drizzle) and I was in love. The barista was also incredibly nice and talented, and I liked him even more when I found out the themed drinks were created by him. Nice atmosphere too!
Great coffee. I think I had a raspberry chocolate because I didnt see they had chocolate peanut butter at that time, I def thought about ordering another! Very good
Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Excellent cup of Joe. Nice place to hunker down and enjoy great conversation with a friend or two or just get some work done by yourself.
Wonderful staff and atmosphere. Theres always artwork for sale that supports local artists that gives the place a warm feeling
Never been there before but liked the place. Saw a live performance so it was a little crowded, but not intolerable. Got to chat with the performers wife and learn about the songs he wrote and performed. Was a great time.
Common ground has good coffee at great prices made by amazing baristas ☺️
Seems like a nice place, and reading the reviews, it looks like its great when you actually are served. It seems to be open until 11pm, just dont expect food, drinks, our any service until then. Wish they could state up front that last call is at 10:30pm so that people dont waste time and gas in the cold to give them business just to be turned away. I may go back, if Im in the area, but Im never going out of my way like I did...
So good! Great service!
This is a tiny place next to the deli. Very good and creamy Dirty Chai Latte and light tasting Dirty Dragon Latte. Not a very strong coffee flavor or espresso feel/effect, but still tastes good. Parking in the front or side streets.
Ive been coming in this door since I was a super cool freshman at Aquinas 22 years ago. This is a really cool place, and the coffee is great too.
Good coffee and cozy atmosphere. Staff knows coffee and is always friendly. Good place to hide in a book, or get some work done.
Great meeting spot. Bring your own cup and save a bit of change.
A little weird feeling, pretty much no one was speaking english but otherwise, it was fun, unique and had good prices!
Awesome!!
I ordered a chai tea latte and received either the wrong drink or a really bad chai tea latte. Also the wifi was not working, so I could not get much work done. Overall, the place and atmosphere were decent, but probably wont come back.
Good tasting coffee (Ethiopian brew) and assortments of other drinks. Vibe is chill with plenty of seating, including couch and comfy chairs if lounging is desired.
Common Ground is a great local coffee shop with plenty of drink options, paninis, snacks, and good service. The only drawback is lack of parking.
Super cool vibe. Great coffee. Local artists pieces are featured and offered for sale. Interesting seating choices. Dig this place.
Cute little shop with lots of references and local art! great chai lattes :-)
Decent prices and excellent coffee and service. Good place to kick back and chill with pals during off peak hours.
Best place to go if youre an old Morningstar 76 fan. This is the only coffee shop that comes close to that atmosphere. Love the homeliness and their drinks are all expertly crafted. Need a tasty bite? Have some locally made bread (pumpkin, banana, etc), a donut, or pastry. Better yet, go nextdoor to the deli for a great sandwich if youre really hungry and theyre open.
Bike Church Sunday Morning
Awesome service staff, incredible atmosphere, cozy locale☺️
Friendly baristas and great prices on whole bean coffee and espresso. Definitely my go-to coffee shop in Grand Rapids
Great vibe, well established, solid drinks and great service. Next to the Schnitz deli which is also a landmark establishment.
Cool place, great atmosphere. Friendly service. Good place to meet up!
I like this Coffee Shop, nearby my neighborhood I grew up at. Its Quiet, good old school atmosphere, makes me thinking of Old days, but their own internet is weak, I had to use Xfinity for better signal. Otherwise, Great Coffee. However, They should extend their hours to Midnight
Great atmosphere. Free wifi. Interesting artwork. Can buy whole beans and fresh ground along with pastries and a great cup of joe. Was a quiet place to chill on a Monday morning.
Love the decor, like the coffee, and the service is usually decent.
Great drinks, calm environment, good music. Good morning spot.
Lovely little coffee shop. More space and cheaper than your average Starbucks!
Lovely little coffee shop with a relaxed atmosphere and fun coffee. Lots of interesting and regularly changing lattes, clearly the baristas have fun working there.
Good coffee, good prices, nice people. Im here a few times a week for those reasons. Thank you CG!!!
Nice place just not enough parking from the street
Nice Coffee shop. Quiet and comfy
My favorite coffee/tea place in town! (any town) Friendly staff and pricing! LGBTQ+ supportive!
Came in for a cup of coffee and to do some work which required internet access. Coffee was great but I couldnt connect to their internet to save my life. (or to join in on a national discussion that my job was hosting on twitter as an expert) Wont go here again.
The vibe of this place sets my anxiety at ease. I could easily spend hours here in a relaxed state! I love the local art and music they play is selected well! Creative drinks and they encourage ecological practices in a non-judgemental way! The baristas are generous and kind.. Creative drinks, signiature flavor pairings. This will become a regular stop for you!
This is a great place to study!with a large assortment of coffee and tea and a deli attached, what more could you want!
The coffee and bakery goods are delicious, and the staff is very friendly. There’s plenty of seating, while still feeling cozy.
Very nice place. The staff could have been friendlier though.
Great coffee and fizzy drinks. Very charming and local feel, good selection of pastries from the nearby bakery.
Fantastic and friendly service, and the fresh coffee products and pricing are wonderful!
Good place to meet friends for coffee, can be busy at times.
Cute coffee shop with a chill vibe. The baristas are always helpful and offer nice conversations while making your coffee
Good coffee, cheap, dont go for the vibes
Good coffee, but they should have more ceramic mugs. Not everyone wants to drink their coffee out of a to-go paper cup.
Common Grounds is an open-late coffee shop with a peaceful atmosphere. It is great for studying and they even have a bookshelf and board games
Great place to study late at night.
Great food and coffee. People are very friendly and customer sensitive.
One of my fav coffee place in GR. Good coffee and cozy place for meeting or working on my laptop
Friendly, wonderful local feel. Warms the soul, with their caffeinated love.
This is a solid meeting place! quiet easy to find and pleasant.
I sent here as a college student and glad to be back now that Im in the neighborhood again.
Super fun! Great lattes.
Great coffee and wonderful staff! If youre a 2-wheels and motor kind of person, be sure to stop by Sunday mornings for bike church, hang out and talk shop for a bit!
Love this coffee shop; quiet and the baristas are always super friendly and the coffee is delicious.
Great, quiet place to study, read, relax, or just talk with friends. Great drinks
Friendly staff, clean and refreshing environment, good music freshly made small bites and treats, my favorite drink is the dirty dragon.
Good atmosphere, staff, quality, and location.
Wonderful place for some coffee and very helpful staff.
Best coffee! I try to get here every time Im in GR
Friendly awesome home town clean and comfortable
Fantastic atmosphere and great coffee with exceptional prices.
Great baristas! Funky atmosphere.
Good coffee, French sodas, food, books and board games. This place is ideal for a lazy Sunday or study session.
Excellent coffee in a friendly, low key atmosphere
My hometown walk to coffeeshop. Good memories
