Tried out Fair Oaks Auto Repair for the first time to fix the AC on my sons new (actually old) car. Emily was very polite and professional over the phone with scheduling the appointment.Kent (owner) was amazing at explaining the repairs to me and what needed to be done. What I am most impressed with about the shop was that Kent and his team was very honest with me, even recommending to NOT spend money on certain repairs.Overall, based on my first impression, this is a very honest shop that does a great job serving the local community.Highly recommended!
Very experienced team.Professional crew. They diagnosed my car and saved us money.
Fair Oaks was courteous and efficient in addressing my transmission issue that many other shops would not even tackle. Would take my car to them again in a heartbeat.
I first spoke to Kent when I called in to inquire as to whether or not they could fix my car. Kent knew exactly what I was dealing with when I described what was wrong and prescribed a very good solution at a very affordable price. I was sold! Once they had made the repair they informed me of issues my car had that I was well aware of. I had been putting off the repairs but due to how honest and friendly Kent and Emily were, I really felt ready to take the plunge and I agreed to the repairs. I didnt tell them this, but I had been told I needed those same repairs as far back as Summer 2019 and I never did them, but the price estimate Emily gave me for the work was nearly $1.5k cheaper than what a Firestone and another mechanic had quoted me back in 2019. So, it was really a no brainer! Whats more, they did a fantastic job with the repairs. My car feels great, better than it has in 5 or more years! Kent even gave me free brand new windshield wipers. Ill definitely be coming back to Fair Oaks Auto Repair for my future auto repair needs. Theyre some of the nicest people Ive met in Fair Oaks to date.
I really like the honesty of Kent, who is The one I dealt with, he was very professional also. I think we found our new auto repair. 🙂
A few years back I was struggling with a misfire issue with my Ram. We had a guy, a family member that worked as a technician for a repair shop that shall go nameless. He tried really hard many times to fix the issue. I decided based on something a teacher had told me 20 years before that what I needed was a real mechanic. After searching around I stumbled on Fair Oaks Auto Repair. They had the issue permanently fixed at a small cost the same day....I have had some issues here and there with the truck and have always brought it back here. No matter how bad the issue seemed they have always been able to diagnose it quick and get me out for a reasonable price. They have never tried to upsell me. They are honest and very good at what they do. I couldnt recommend a place more.If you want your issue properly diagnosed, properly fixed, and to be priced fairly and not upsold... come here. I have trusted them for years and they have always come through. This is a mechanic, and you will be in good hands here.
They did great work and did not gouge me..
I dropped into this place as my check engine light had just come on.I was greeted by Emily who was friendly, professional and immediately put me at ease.I explained I needed a diagnostic due to the light coming on, and she dropped what she was doing and diagnosed the issue straight away.I was literally in and out of the place in 10 mins with the issue resolved...and the cost was unbelievably good.Thank you Emily...you have just earned yourself my repeat business whenever I have a car issue.
I greatly appreciate the personnel and services. My first time was after I had gone to the dealer of my van to fix a seat belt problem, covered by the warranty. Dealer listed a parade of horribles that needed repair, especially my brakes, that would exceed 3$k. I only paid them my $50 deductible and came to FO Auto Repair. They did not find any problems. When I needed my visor on the driver side replaced, it would cost me @$400 because it had the controls for the garage door opener imbedded in it. FO Repair found a used one for $100. Most recently I had a transmission problem covered by warranty. FO repair does not take apart transmissions which the warranty company wanted so they referred me to another repair shop with whom they were familiar with. Finally I had them repair my rear brakes, months after the dealer that replaced the seatbelt informed me about all these problems that did not exist. If you want honesty, good work and courteous service, go to Fair Oaks Auto Repair. Emily, the one who will greet you, will see your needs are taken care of.
Worst case of service Ive ever had! Brought my Honda CR-V there for the pre purchasing inspection and after they confirmed that the car is in the good driving condition, I asked them if they will be able to install the tow package to my car. They said that it wouldnt be a problem so we scheduled an installation. Came to the shop on day and time that had been scheduled in advance with complete installation kit from Blue Ox, met the manager and after he checked all parts that I have brought to them he said that he doesnt want to deal with it because it seems to be too much work!I thought I found my new favorite mechanics for the future but boy, how wrong I was!Refuse to perform previously scheduled installation just because of two (!) holes need to be cut in plastic splash guard under the bumper, and four (!) wires spliced and connected to the lamps!? You should be ashamed yourself!
This is the best place to have your car repaired period.
I have used this garage twice and both times they were very friendly. Both times they diagnosed my car quickly and they gave me several options for repairs and both times they saved me money by not up selling repairs when they certainly could have. They are clearly an honest conscientious family run shop.
Emily is now my favorite person! I have a 25 year old car, and she was on her last legs - or so I thought. I dropped her off with Emily, and the next day they were able to tell me exactly what was wrong, and how much to fix.Emily went over each item individually, and she not once tried to convince me to do a repair I couldnt afford. I had to deny once service because it was more than I had at the time, but she said ok, and we moved on. That was a fresh experience! My car is running wonderfully, and its so nice to not have to strain my eyes for a cracked windshield - Which I didnt know they offered but definitely wanted. And it was all extremely affordable!Thank you so much!!! Emily, you are a dream to work with!
Best, honest shop. Been going there for 30+ years.
Excellent! Fair Oaks Auto Repair is a wonderful place with helpful staff. Ive used them several times and always been impressed.
They among all my cars. They are fast, efficient and great. Thanks.
The best around only runner up is honest engine. Only two shops who deserve the business
We brought my sons car here for a new alternator. Called around, and they offered the best price..Emily in the office is very friendly, and Kent is very trustworthy. Fast service. We will take our other vehicles there.
I was driving through Sacramento when my car overheated. I was losing fluid from the radiator at a rapid pace. Not knowing of a mechanic in the Fair Oaks area I was uncomfortable stopping by any mechanic I did not know, but I had no choice. Out came Google Maps and a mechanic was two blocks from my location. I pulled in told Ken that I saw a leak at the bumper area of my vehicle and needed to be back in Los Angeles as quickly as possible. The time was 7:30am when I pulled into his shop. I explained to him that I found a liquid leaking around the bumper area of the car and if he could put a temporary fix on it until I returned back to Los Angeles. I received a call from him at 10:30am and he told me the job was complete. He did not put a temporary fix on the torn heater hose, but went the extra mile and completely repaired the busted tube. Great team of mechanics to work with. Extremely friendly, courteous and [honest]. I would highly recommend this great place for your automotive needs.
No call back after message left. If they dont want our business then we will go elsewhere. Just being honest.
Best place, best People, and Emily Rocks!!!!! No one could figure out my car problem, but they did!!!!
I have been to this shop a few times and have found my new mechanic! I refer people over to them all the time. I have a friend who also uses this shop exclusively after her first visit. After my car was stolen in December and then found a few weeks later. I was missing the hood. Omar was able to get me a great price and have it delivered the same day.I also got my brakes done there. They were thorough and when they found my rear brakes in need of some work they were genuinely concerned and asked if I would like to get them done at the same time. I was not able to afford to have it done, and when i told Omar he was not pushy in any way to get me to have the work done, like so many mechanics are.My advice with any online review is to take it with a grain of salt. Even the best small business can be hurt by someone who is impossible to please. Trustworthy Local companies like Fair Oaks Auto Repair are hard to find.Lastly, if you are not convinced; take your car in or call them. You will quickly find them to be friendly, helpful, Knowledgeable, and maybe most importantly, professional.
I had no idea what was wrong with my car and I even had the problem looked at by a dealership previously. Kent fit me into a tight schedule, got my car diagnosed, and repaired the same day. The entire team is very friendly and helpful. Their prices a very reasonable and my experience will have me returning in the future. These are trustworthy guys!
At the beginning of July 2020, my Prius catalytic converter was stolen. Fair Oaks Auto Repair gave a quote of around $2500 to replace the stolen part. In addition, they offered to install a theft deterrent package, adding that they had never had their system fail. Even though the deterrent package was another nearly $200, I was confident in their work, as they claimed “No one has ever had a problem.” As it turned out their final price on the part replacement exceeded what the insurance allowed by a few hundred dollars in addition to the “theft deterrent package.” The car was home only a few days when the new catalytic converter was stolen. The car was parked near my bedroom window, meaning the difficulty required in bypassing their deterrent package is truly questionable. I contacted the owner asking for some compensation on the deterrent package, as I would now need to buy a different, proven system and not something they claimed would “work.” The owner said he would need to, “talk to his wife and get back to me.” Unfortunately, the owner’s response was to accuse me of being a bully and assuming no responsibility for their systems failure. Other deterrent systems, such as Catloc and Catstrap offer your money back if their theft protection system fails. Too bad I trusted Fair Oaks AutoRepair to stand behind their work…
My first experience with this facility was friendly and positive. They diagnosed and repaired my F150 electrical problem quickly and I had my vehicle back the same day. I plan to return soon to have them install a limited slip differential. I would consider Fair Oaks Auto Repair first before taking any vehicle to the dealer for repairs. I also like knowing that ASE certified mechanics are working on my vehicle. Keep up the good work.
The best around only runner up is honest engine. Only two shops who deserve the business
Been going to Fair Oaks Auto since i was a kid with my father. John who recently retired was always a huge help. Our previous neighbor Robert works there and is a big help as well. I just had the pleasure of meeting Kent who is the new owner and hes a tremendous help as well. They explain and show you whats wrong with your vehicle and get it fixed in a timely matter with great prices. I would recommend this place to anyone.
Best Automotive repair shop within Fair Oaks. Kent and his staff are always polite and professional. I have been blessed with the opportunity to have my car serviced here several times and have been very pleased with the outcome. Prices are reasonable and work is of high quality. Thank you Fair Oaks Auto Repair!
Kent and his staff are marvelous! Very friendly and excellent customer service and they have fair rates and do great work. I recently moved from the Bay Area to Sacramento and as soon as I arrived my SUV needed repair and I found them on the website and Kent was absolutely wonderful and made me feel at home. I have had to have several repair jobs and all done fast and efficient. Highly recommended if you are looking for a great repair shop. Thanks Shelly and Pati.
Been going here for years. Even after the change in ownership things have gotten better! Will recommend this place to anyone who needs service. 🙏
This place was great! Friendly staff, great prices, and quick service. They have coffee for you while you wait and some cute shops within walking distance if you want to kill some time. I wish I lived closer because I would come here for all my mechanic needs, even so though, I will surely be back, probably for the bigger repairs. They are very thorough and they dont try to rip you off but will give you a very fair price. Theyre not going to try and tell you that you need a bunch of stuff fixed when you really dont.
I cant say enough about these auto repair professionals! They are friendly and genuinely care about their customers. I have used their services for close to two years. They have worked on my Pathfinder and Acura CL with equal expertise! They keep my cars safe and in good running order! I am so glad that I found them within walking distance of the Fair Oaks village which is my neighborhood.Judy
I have been going to Fair Oaks Auto Repair for years and wouldnt go anyplace else! John, Omar and the crew are all nice and always helpful. And my cars run!!! When I buy a new-to-me (used) car, I go to them for an inspection. Peace of mind. Thanks guys!!!
***Update. The owner, Kent did try to make this right by significantly lowering the cost and apologized. However, we already decided to go somewhere else prior to writing the initial review below.Dont go here unless you have really deep pockets and dont care when you get your car fixed! The first time that we took our car here, we made an 8 AM appointment a week in advance. They didnt even look at the car until 2 PM, so we had to leave it over night. They charged over $300 to troubleshoot an A/C problem. They fixed it by supposedly replacing the service port and adding refrigerant and die to determine if there was a big leak. They said it mightve just been a slow leak at the service port, so changing the port and charging it may fix the problem. After a week, all of the refrigerant had leaked out. After taking the car back to determine where the leak was, were hit with another quote for over $900. They detected a leak at the condenser and recommended replacing it and the suction and discharge hoses. The book says this is a 1.8 hour job and the parts are no more than $100. They have some serious parts and labor multipliers. This should only be a $300-$400 job and at most $700 from the beginning, not over $1,200. Not only that, they also considered charging us again to detect the leak; even though, we already paid them to find the leak the first time.My wife said they were friendly enough, so thats why they even get 1 star.
Im going to do my best to give an impartial review with simply the facts so you can draw your own conclusions.I called about an AC repair (car blowing hot air). I brought it in to diagnose the problem on a Friday at 8:00 AM (opening time). The lady working the desk (very kind, honest and helpful) said it sounded like a Freon leak and they would diagnose it and call me back within an hour to let me know what they find and give me an estimate. I asked for a price range (best case to worst case given what they knew). She stated it could be a couple hundred to several hundred if the whole AC needed to be replaced and to give an example she stated a Jeep is currently having their whole AC replaced for upwards of $900.Within an hour I was notified it was a Freon leak. They cant locate it (potential pinhole leaks) so they will replace the Freon and add dye to determine leak locations if it continues to leak in future. Cost was estimated at $270. She estimated 1.4 hour of labor. I said okay (this was at 10:00 AM).Four hours later (At about 2:15 PM) I called back inquiring about my car. She stated the compressor had a bad regulator valve and the entire AC system needed to be replaced (Compressor, condenser, etc.). This was estimated at $1700. A tough pill to swallow, but if it needs to be done then okay. The car would need to be kept over the weekend until Tuesday or Wednesday worst case as they were expecting parts for my car on Tuesday. On Tuesday I called to check on the status. Their parts people sent them the wrong part twice. However, the still managed to get the correct part in and she was hoping it would be done by the end of the day.I received a call at 4:54 that day saying my car was finished but they close at 5:00 (though google says 5:30 is closing time?). Lucky for me I literally live 4 minutes away and she agreed to wait a few minutes for me to show up so I could pick it up and pay (again the lady at the desk was always very helpful and honest).Upon arrival I was told my cost was over $2400. I stated I was quoted $1700 and she realized that the compressor was mistakenly added twice to the bill. She corrected it and I paid my $1700 that I was quoted before.I called around to get a few quotes and they were in the $1400 - $1600 range for the job that Fair Oaks Auto Repair performed on my vehicle, so I believe their price was fair. In addition, the parts installed on my car have a 2 year, 24,000 mile warranty. Now that Ive presented the facts, Ill tell you what I think/feel. I believe that Fair Oaks Auto Repair is a bit pricier than other locations but I also believe that they are a honest company. I dislike that I waited 4 hours after my initial 1.5 hour labor estimate and I was the one who had to call back for an update. I waited around the house for that call so I could go promptly pick up my car. If I was notified sooner that this 1.5 hour job on Friday was going to lead to my picking up my car the following Tuesday, I could have made more of my day rather than waiting around for four hours. I also dislike that I was misquoted an additional $700 when I arrived to pay (granted this was an honest mistake and was promptly and graciously corrected). With that being said, I do like that they are honest. I do feel their technicians are experienced and they are going to perform a quality job.To explain my rating:Cost: 4/5Work Performed: 4/5; Car was initially misdiagnosed. They received the wrong parts twice. The car is blowing cold air again and the AC is working great.Customer Service: 2/5
I was referred to Omar by another friend Omar (LOL) and had them replace an engine in my 1998 Honda Prelude. Omar was really easy to talk to about the repair and very knowledgeable. I only had to wait about 5 days to have my beloved automobile returned to me, yet they still gave me a loaner car while my car was in their shop.Omar told me to come back to their shop in another 5 days to ensure everything was 100%. I think the follow-up was the best part of the experience. To me, it says they care more about me than making the sale. Thanks, guys.
Excellent Customer Service. My Suburban needed some unexpected TLC and Fair Oaks Auto Repair got it done. Awesome Technicians, reasonable prices, and great Service...KAMO APPROVED Business!👍!!!!👍
Been going to Fair Oaks Auto Repair for many years now. It is hard to find a good trusting auto mechanic. The service that this team (John, Omar and crew) provides is truly the best. Customer Service cant be beat. And I truly appreciate the greeting I get from the four legged beast Jake!Kim Hennessy
This is a mechanic shop I can actually trust. They perform excellent work and will give you the straight story about your repair options. I will continue bringing my vehicles here for the foreseeable future.
The great Shop full of expert mechanics. The owner is one of those rare high integrity individuals. This is become my shop for all my vehicles
Highly recommend taking your car or truck here, super helpful and know what they’re doing. Project car wasn’t running right and needed to have the timing done, didn’t take long and it was done RIGHT!
Never called me back i guess they dont want my business. Lame.
I myself dont take my cars here myself, But my extended family the Tarrers do & I dont like how they charge, they send out cars with Items that were just repaired, that arent fixed & have to take back a 2nd time for the same issue, they replaced the parking switch when the bulb was burned out the Whole time, even after replacing the switch.. Horrible Service !!!
Ive been going to these guys for years. Omar and Robert are Awesome! They have an extensive knowledge of their profession and are very customer oriented. I wouldnt go anywhere else.Sincerely,Rick Simpson
I do not recommend this mechanic. I knew exactly what was broken, and the mechanic estimated it would be $500. The mechanics later charged $2000 for something different. This place ripped me off, and didnt fix what was broken about my car. This happened a few years ago, so mabey the place has improved since then. But Im not going to risk it.
It was obvious they were trying to get out of honoring their warranty after Id taken my truck back for them to adjust prior work theyd done. It was only $150 or so, so whatever... Ill pay and just not come back. As it turns out, theyd misdiagnosed a more serious issue they had the opportunity to investigate on multiple occasions, and it left me stranded on the side of the road 70 miles from home. Another shop got it straightened out the first time.My advice? If you need simple fixes and routine maintenance these guys were prompt, so, assuming prices remain competitive, you may as well go here if youre close (though dont count on the warranty). If you have what might be a larger issue youre probably better off elsewhere.
The guys at Fair Oaks Auto Repair took great care of me. Got my doors and windows fixed up quickly. Ill definitely be going back to them for future car needs.
It was Sunday morning and we needed a tire patch ASAP. Not a lot of places were open, except for this shop. We went in when they opened and were out within 10 minutes. The owner was very kind and attentive.
Omar is fantastic! This place is the one you want to take your car to. A couple sensors went out on my car and they were very quick to diagnose and fix the problem. Definitely coming back here whenever my car decides to croak again :)
I am very picky about who works on my 1960 Corvette and have used Fair Oaks Auto Repair exclusively for the past three years. The staff is very knowledgeable about working on cars of this vintage and they are extremely conscientious about protecting the time and dollars that I have invested in this car over the past 26 years.I trust their judgment and never feel like they are pressuring me to have work done that is not necessary.Bob Larne
I wont go anywhere else as I totally trust the management and staff at Fair Oaks Auto Repair. They are always honest, full of integrity, and provide outstanding service. I love the local feel and highly recommend them.
Kent and crew have done great work on 3 different cars for our family and are competitive, thorough, and great with details - even checked the batteries on my key fob recently!
I have taken my 06 F250 powerstroke diesel to Fair Oaks Auto on a few different occasions. Complete professionalism... they were quick to get my truck and out with the needed repair.
John and his crew have been servicing and repairing our cars for 18 years. Now our grown daughters take their vehicles to them also. They have proven themselves over & over, to be honest, reliable & extremely helpful in difficult (expensive) situations.Omar is great at letting us know any repairs that are due or things that need looking at, before we experience a breakdown. And he puts up with my questions & procrastination, and my husbands (attempted) repairs with a smile.I wouldnt trust my vehicles to anyone else. Nowadays, when I say honey, my car is making a funny sound husband says call John.Still not sure? One of our daughters has an older CRV that was making some horrible sound. She looked for a well rated repair shop in her area (Santa Rosa) & took her car in. Shop told her it was the transmission and that it wasnt even worth repairing. She was really upset; she was still in college & didnt have the $ for a new car.She came home & we took her CRV to John & Omar. Broken motor mount, $300 and she was back on the road the next day. We are really thankful for Fair Oaks Auto!!
I have definitely found the place for all of my future auto repair needs. These guys went above and beyond my expectations. In an industry commonly riddled with bad customer service, dishonest business practices, and low quality work, this shop is the exception. Without going into the details of my repairs and circumstances, I will only say that you will not find this level of honesty and service anywhere.
A GEM in the Village! Thanks to Omar, John & the crew at Fair Oaks Auto Repair -- they keep our family cars (including my parents vehicles) in working order. Omar is kind and helpful-- and always willing to the save the day. We are so fortunate to have this business in our community. I am especially thankful for the times (Omar again) came to rescue us when our car had a leaking gas tank (Ford), the mechanics ingenuity in helping us with our SAABs cooling system and troubleshooting unusual, hard to diagnose car problems. I really appreciate their flexible hours and willingness to give us a ride when needed. Thank you again Fair Oaks Auto Repair! -- by Carrie & Lance Judd
I have been going to Fair Oaks Auto Repair for years and I have never regretted it. It is under new ownership and nothing has changed except they now offer a ride back home when you drop off your car - a nice improvement.
Repairs done by professional and friendly mechanics and charges are reasonable.
My family has been going to Fair Oaks Auto Repair for as long as i can remember. All I can say is they do excellent work and have never disappointed me. I would recommend them to anyone.
Very honest, accommodating staff. Have needed several minor things done to our car over the past two years and weve come to trust and appreciate their quick, nothing-but-nessicary handy work and the little extra stuff they do for you. For example, when taking the car in for a possible starter issue, they did a little extra research after being unable to identify the the issue the OBD sensor was indicating, the F.O. Auto Repair team discovered that our particular make and model was actually recalled for this exact issue. They even went so far as helping us make arrangements with the dealership to drop the car off there.. where theyd have the work done for free! Saved me money at their expense, which is MUCH appreciated, and their general work/ethics do not go unnoticed.
My experience at Fair Oaks Auto Repair was definetly above average. Having car problems are no fun at all.. but it really makes a huge difference when you have mechanics that provide excellent customer service going above and beyond to help.. Omar is such a super nice guy.. he went out of his way to help me during the time my car was being repaired... he gave me temporary transportation to work also door step service from my home at 6am to pick up my car so that I could get to work on-time.. This kind of service is rare to say the least..Im new in town and so fortunate to have found a mechanic I can trust.. Thank you again providing excellent service!
This is going to be a long, long post, scroll down to the bottom for a summary. I have 2 experiences that stand out.1st experience:Kent and his staff assessed and completed a repair to my alternator literally under half of what the dealership was trying to charge me. I wish I had gone here first instead of wasting $100+ on a new battery when my old one was most likely perfectly fine. They also caught that the screws/framing of my engine mount had corroded through and loosened which explained the weird thunking sound I would hear when I would take off from a red light. (I cant remember exactly what was wrong, but basically the engine was moving around and it definitely should not have been.) Naturally they fixed this too (after calling me to make sure I wanted it done)Im never driving out to Roseville again to service my Acura.2nd Experience:So, if you read the 1st one youll know that I drive an acura. Its a sedan and the front bumper is very low to the ground. I overpark curbs a lot, and when i back out Ive ripped the bumper partially off 5-7 times as far as memory serves......Well I used to go to a place out in roseville and they would charge me around $120-200....And this is before the bumpers clips were shorn off and completely missing.Well after rip number 7 my bumper literally has no clips and honestly no foreseeable way to attach it to the frame and was hanging off on the side.Kent and his team somehow managed to re-attach the thing, and also re attach the wheel well which was dragging against the front driver side tire (and also making a lovely burning smell while I was on the freeway.... yikes) and then went to the opposite side of the bumper and screwed it in from the inside so you cant see that there was even a repair job done. The best part is this all costed me a little over $60, which is under half of what other places charge me.Kent was happy to show me and explain to me what they did to fix the bumper, and I have peace of mind knowing its not going to just fly away while driving down the freeway to work.SUMMARY:Im really REALLY suspicious of car places. You all know the reputation - a lot of the shops are just out to make a quick buck and like to scam people.Fair Oaks Auto Repair is NOT one of those shops. Its one of the few that not only does the job, charges a completely fair and reasonable price, and actually has good customer service. These guys deserve your business. But dont take my word for it... Give them a shot. Its so nice knowing that I have a place that can repair my car and I rest easy knowing Im not getting scammed or duped. Can you say the same? Probably not.Whats stopping you? If youre reading my review your car is most likely messed up. Give them a try.
Repairs done by talented mechanics and a well run business.
Fast and friendly service
He printed put some instructions on the drive cycle to see if I could do it at home, before having to take it in and leave it for a few days.
Bad workmanship
Great service
Happy customer.
Rude they hung up on me
