Best bike shop in Durham. Such caring and helpful staff, who always have a few minutes to make sure my experience is great. Top quality bikes + parts and pretty great prices to boot. Definitely worth a pop by, if youre in need of something bike related (and if they cant get it, theyre always willing to help you find somewhere that does. ) Im a huge fan.
I came by on my day off today to maybe get a set of bars, which I could see from the street they had. Dude didnt even let me in the store. I guess I wasnt good enough...
Came in for help with a freewheel issue. Guy pointed out several things I’d configured wrong, and helped me figure out a cheap way to fix my bike. Really great service.
Best Bike repair shop in the Bull City. I bent my bike Frame hitting a curve a while back and they were able to not only fix the problem but had my bike running smoother thN ever before. If you need a good place to repair your bike with a great staff I recommend Seven Stars Cycles.
By far best and most helpful bike shop in town. They talked me out of higher costing equipment to give me a better set-up at the cost of their profits. Will go here always.
My wife and I were going on a vacation and needed some last minute work done on our two trek hybrids. I called Seven Star Cycles, and the owner told me to bring the bikes. He told me that it would take about a week To fix the bikes. True to his word, the bikes were ready in less than a week. They know their bikes and they do good honest work at a fair price.Highly recommend!
Look, here is the thing: you can spend hours researching bikes and gear, or you can simply ask Adrian what he carries. He only stocks stuff he can get behind, and often stuff he has personal experience using. Adrian built up a Surly Bridge Club for me that is a total gravel-crusher and has always been super helpful--not to mention quick--whenever Ive needed anything bike-related. Hes local, he knows his stuff, and hes an honest, good human. Welcome to your new bike shop.
I passed by with my bike because my tires were completely out of air. They were kind enough to lend me their tire pump so that I could get back on the road.
Didnt actually have anything done at the shop, but was met at the door by a worker (which I appreciated) and asked about getting a simple tune up done. My simple question was met with condescension and not much useful info. Wont try to use them again, tough way to get new business.
I purchased my bike from a different shop online, however I used this company for assembly. The people at the shop assembled the bike in almost no time. They were very helpful in answering all of the questions I had and stand behind the quality of their work. I am very pleased with the level of professionalism and quality of service I received from this company. I highly recommend them to others.
Ive been to a couple bike shops in the area, and Seven Stars is my favorite. They fixed up my wifes less-than-great bike and got it into riding shape without turning up their noses at it or whatever, and gave me tips in setting up my 3-speed hub correctly while they were at it. Nice folks.
Such an impressive shop, and the staff is incredibly nice and knowledgable. I had a problem with my rear derailleur at the end of my last ride, and I thought there was a chance Id be off the bike for several weeks. Instead, I brought it by Seven Stars and was on the road 20 minutes later after a cheap repair. Consistently great service and guidance. Grateful to have this business in our community.
I brought in a used bicycle and ask for assembly and set up. It was a dull suspension mountain bike and the shocks were not set up. And I was told that it would be a complete setup. Upon picking the bicycle up when the shocks werent set up, the individual who helped me told me that I should look it up online and adjust them myself but did not offer this service. In addition, the rear cassette was not installed properly and I had specifically pointed that out upon dropping off the bicycle. The tone of the individual helping me when I brought the bicycle back was hostile and unprofessional.
I love this crew. They are so knowledgable and easy going. Ive been bringing my bike here for its yearly tune up for four years. They always accommodate me in a timely manner and give me honest advice on what I need (or dont need). They never try to over-sell me things, they just get my bikes working. The mechanics are the owners, which I really respect.
Called them for a new bike assembly, told them exactly what it was model and make(santa cruz chameleon). They said know the bike well no problem and that they could do it. Got the box to his front door where he then says nope, cant do DOT bikes. In other-words wont assemble my bike because it uses hydraulic brakes. WTH? And BTW its not a DOT bike, it uses mineral oil. Did the assembly my self, feel this experience talked me into it. So I saved money and now I know I can do my own work, which is a good thing. Change your name to “One Star”
Needed a repair quickly before heading out of town. Shop was great at getting my bike in and fixed. Great service.
Very helpful, friendly, and attentive staff. I popped-in to replace a seat clamp on my old bike, and the guy quickly found what I needed. They also gave suggestions to be sure I was all-set.
They do great work on bikes and are one of the few brick and mortar stores for Wombee bikes.
I called and inquired about a bike just now and the man showed little interest in helping me. I asked if the bike was a 52 or 54 and he said “something like that” then asked for a picture to be sent as it was a bit of a drive to get there and would like to see it before we come and he said “it’s probably not worth your time then” ..... this is one way NOT to make a sale especially when I have cash in hand.
Finally - a REAL bike shop run by good people who know what theyre doing. Dont go anywhere else in the Triangle - especially for maintenance, parts and repairs. Seven Stars did the work I needed for a fraction of what I was quoted at every other shop - and they did it fast and perfectly. This is what a bike shop is supposed to be.
I had a flat on my way home from work. They fixed it and advised me to replace my cracked tires (which I didnt know I had) in
Seven stars is the place to go. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The prices the ask are more than fair, and they are great supporters of the cycling community in Durham. The have organized regular fun rides including the fantastic Durham Tweed Ride in the fall. (The first one was this past fall, 2012, but I expect it will happen again, probably several times.)Their space is awesome. Its basically a stone cavern along Durhams only cobblestone street. Its centrally located, a stones throw from the plaza downtown, making it easy to get to by bike (which would seem like a no-brainer, but other bike shop in town are out on the highways, in major car-oriented shopping centers.)
Owner was frosty and selection was limited but both in the character of what most people have come to expect from urban shops and not nasty by any means. Accessories and service had decent presence.
Awesome place, well stocked and very friendly staff
They keep improving my ride. True story......Yesterday, I installed cloth rim tape purchased from the folks at Seven Stars Cycles. Today, my ride was more fun than usual. Thanks Seven Stars Cycles.
Ive had Adrian working on my bikes since he opened. The first repair he did was on a set of very expensive hand-built wheels I had just bought from another shop. Adrian fixed them in no time, and charged me pocket change to do it. I wish I just had him build them in the first place.Adrian has also fixed my bike a number of other times when I tried to be a bike mechanic. He is extremely knowledgeable and friendly, without ever being condescending or arrogant.Seven Stars is quicker, better, and less expensive than any other shop.
Small shop but well-stocked and friendly. They stock a lot of exotic and high end city and commuter bikes but have other things as well. An oasis for bike folks in downtown.
This was my worst experience ever. I went to this bike shop to get my two tires fixed later to find out that the female owner did not put the chain back on the bike correctly. I actually had plans to go biking with my daughter and since the chain was detached from the bike I was unable to go biking. Also not only the female owner lacked customer service skills but the male owner did as well. I would not recommend this bike shop to anyone.
Seven Stars fixed me up quickly and at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.
This shop is the most professional place Ive visited for service of your bike or trike. My bike has never rode so well since being serviced here.
Great service and lovely humans!
Very helpful and knowledgable staff/owner. Got me in and out for my repair very quickly.
I cannot recommend these folks highly enough. A somewhat complicated rebuild and restoration of a bike that has been in my family for 50 years would not have been completed in time for my grandnephews birthday without their dedication and work ethic.
Super knowledgable and nice folks! After dusting off my old bike and bringing it in to them when I assumed it needed a tune up from sitting for so long, Adrian put it up on the stand, tested it out and told me it was fine. He didnt even try to upsell me on the flux gazingaboinger thingy! In other words, an honest and fair shop. I didnt need work, and instead of trying to sell me on some made up stuff for a few bucks, I was told to get on my bike and ride. I know Ill be back when I do need service. These two are the best!
Best damn bike shop in Durham! These two folks know their stuff and wont guide you wrong!
Very, very pleased with the SOMA Fabrications DC that Seven Stars built for me. I still love (and own -- if anyone is interested) my old Salsa Las Cruces, but found it small for longer rides.Had the benefit of recommending Seven Stars to a few friends, who reported favorable service at a very reasonable prices. Finally, for those so inclined, the occasional themed rides (Tweed Ride, Anyone?) the shop puts on are a great way to get in some biking and then wiping out the benefits with some post ride pubbing or grubbing.
Seven Stars has been my favorite bike shop for several years now. Good advice, reasonably priced repairs and a good selection of bikes and bike parts!
Okay, when calling about a bike (Forge Athena V), the gentleman never heard of the brand and didnt offer much in helping me find the bike. Obviously, reviews are written by owners relatives lol.....
Great service. Very personal and professional.
This place is synonymous with the general yupster snobbery that speaks to the duality of durham. Cupcakes anyone??? Wo I had a snobby experience in the shop, and thought it was just me, nope. These upwardly mobile hipster yuppies, rip on people who can only afford bikes at Target or Walmart. Trust fund infused, carpet bagger implanted businesses, who are dusted with sea salt. AHHHH capitalism.
Such a nice, cool guy! He took an old, neglected bike my friend gave me and made it BANGARANG.
The folks at Seven Stars have done a variety of work for me, from my most majr project, building up my bike from frame, to installing some lights I just didnt make time to do myself.I sent the info below out to a local listserv and figured the broader world oughta know about the good work Seven Stars has done for me as well.**/ snipSeven Stars built up my touring bike from frame using some components I brought, some components I specified and some components they suggested. Youre probably in a similar situation.I have a somewhat unique build (headtube shifters, anyone?), and they got it done, even consulting with the frame builder who put the shifter bosses on without involving me - they just got it done. And, they took care of some after-build problems relating to said odd shifters. Problems that werent at all the result of their work, just something that needed to be done to make everything work correctly.Cost was more than reasonable, I think they just like the challenge.
Why go to a 5 star bike shop when you can go to Seven Stars Cycles? Lets face it, all bike shops are different, and in Durham were fortunate to now have several independent ones from which to choose.Seven Stars differentiates itself as a shop for folks interested in appreciating and utilizing the bicycle as the great human-powered machine that it is. They carry solid brands like Surly, Linus, Civitan, Origen-8, Velo Orange, and Babboe (the Dutch-inspired city cargo bike). And theyve got some sweet pre-owned rigs too. Right now theres a sweet Salsa Las Cruces and a smallish Bridgestone RB-1.This is a shop with character. (And there are a couple of characters over there fer shure - in a good way). You can count on reasonable prices, honest and generous service, and solid wrenching. They also carry helmets, fenders, racks, paniers, pumps, basic bike stuff like tubes etc, Chrome Industries Bags, and more.Of course, its a little underground. Actually, it is literally underground. In a warehouse. Just follow the cobblestones down from Organic Transit. Or if youre a baddie, launch off the double stair set out instead.
The best local pedal bike shop!
😀great customer service!!!!!
