Tried to go in. Got shouted out of the store. I couldnt understand them because my hearing is poor (disabled veteran) and I have to read lips and they were wearing masks. Was looking to buy a new bike because Im new to the area. Still looking, but definitely not here.

Scott is a veteran mechanic and he is the best mechanic I know. He is able to fix ANY issues in a timely manner, and at a low cost. He also provides a warranty of his work for 30 days so that if something he fixed ends up failing, he will fix it for free.On many occasions I have had to reach out to Scott for last minute maintenance, and he is always able to squeeze my work in a timely manner. His work is perfect each time. I’ve never had to come back due to a mistake his part.I drive 30 minutes out of my way to bring my bike to Scott, because he completes it quickly, he is reliable, he is fast, and he tells it to me straight up.I highly suggest giving your bike maintenance business to Scott. He is one of a kind. I appreciate his knowledge and hard work tremendously.-Jonny Hoffman(Mainly road cycling, but some mtb biking as well)

Great bike-buying experience. Went first to Durham. Charles spent time understanding what we were looking for and didnt try to upsell us. Both Charles and I noticed that the bike he suggested was a little small, so he called other stores - found the same bike but larger frame at Chapel-Hill store. Went and bought the bike there from Howie Mandel (no, not the comedian!). Both stores have compete service departments as well. Prices were very good - we bought a new helmet and gloves, too - check them out - theyre struggling due to slow supply chain issues.

I went there to see about getting my handlebars raised and agreed to an expensive tune-up, after which I was assured the adjustment would be no problem. Two weeks later when I returned I was told I would need a stem extender and they were currently out and would call me when one arrived. I waited a month, called and there was no record of my order. They had one in stock, so I went by this afternoon and they werent sure if I would need new cables, but I said to go ahead and install them if needed. When I later picked up the bike, the handlebars were great but one of the gear indicators was broken. The mechanic was irritated about that and asked me what I wanted to do and I said I wanted an indicator that worked. He informed me he would have to replace the grips and threw those in also, for which I am grateful. I rode the bike in the lot and discovered the other gear indicator was also broken. The mechanic told me it came in that way, which I doubt but have no clear recognition so let it go. A much more difficult and involved experience than was necessary. I think some new mechanics worked on my bike and they may be having staffing problems, it is something I dont want to chance again.

If you like to be ripped off by unfriendly, dismissive people. The Bicycle Chain-Durham isthe place for you. I was charged $86 for a 15 minute assembly of my child’s Razor Rip Rider Trike in the record time of over 3 weeks. I questioned the owner, asking if they have assembly difficulty dependent pricing and he said he already dropped the price from $135 to $86 and wasn’t all that comfortable with that. This was more than the cost of the bike. Looking to get new bikes, rack etc for family this summer. Will NOT be going back to the Bicycle Chain Durham.

Attitude is poor and has been the several times we have gone here. I just happened to be next to the store and stopped in to get gloves and fluids. Salesperson was dismissive and annoying with his Covid fear. In general I like the Bicycle Chain; however, I recommend you shop at one of the other stores especially the one on Glenwood in Raleigh. The Durham store has never had the right customer focus and it hasnt changed recently.

This is an absolutely exceptional bike store I ride both gravel, road, and Enduro and we trust no one else for my bikes and the staff is very helpful and patient with address all needs the customer has. Nate and the other bicycle mechanics here are the best most seasoned and skilled mechanics in the triangle. A+++++ Five Stars I will be a loyal customer for life.

More than one really bad experience. Very disappointed. I purchased two Specialized bicycles from them, a few months apart, for two family members. Sometimes they seem to have a veneer of courtesy, but when they dont think youre listening or watching, its a whole different attitude. They missed up new wheels that they installed, and didnt even apologize. I do give them credit for at least admitting it was a really bad mistake and their fault, and that a test ride would have caught it - but an apology would have also been nice. I gave them a few more chances after that, but it only went from bad to worse.

The store in Durham, their people, products, and maintenance are all outstanding. This is our go-to store for all our biking needs. We just visited today to have a handlebar mirror installed and to adjust the cables for the disc brakes. The tech was very knowledgeable and prompt in adjusting it. And when my son purchased and end-of-the-handlebar rearview mirror, the tech went out of his way to be sure it was set properly for my sons viewing. It is a great feeling to know they are there and can handle our biking needs.Right now, Im deciding between a battery-assisted bicycle or a standard cruising bike. Not sure yet which to chose, but I am sure where I will go to purchase it.

I was far less than impressed when it came to this branch. I walked in with a bike that needed a simple tune up. The guy behind the counter was doing something on the register as I stood there for probably a minute/minute and a half. Not once did he say, Just a second or Be right with you. I almost just turned around and walked out. Once he did give me the Whaddya got, I was met with a cant be bothered attitude. Not once did he actually look at me...he was glancing everywhere else, but actually looking me in the eye. Im pretty sure the mob wasnt going to bust down the door, so always looking for the closest exit really wasnt needed. Also, its your store, you should already know these things. The part that really bugged me, though was that he told me the bike would be ready the following Friday and that I would get a text to let me know when the work was done. I did get a text...at 7:02pm...the store closes on Fridays at 7pm.The work that they did was good and the price was fair, hence the 2 Stars. I guess I dont have an expensive enough bike to really grab the guys attention...or to have it available when he promised it would be available. Im never going back.

I took the bike to Bicycle chain and the Awesome gentle man said he can fix it. In less than 5 minutes the chain was fixed. The gentle man even walked me to my car and helped me to put the bike in. Greatest customer service. Thanks Mohawk man.

I was looking at buying a new bicycle, I explained what I wanted to do with it and a member of the sales staff showed me the bicycle he thought suitable. I tried it out and then started asking questions and looking at other options. I went home did some research and checked online. After deciding what I wanted, it was the first bicycle he recommended. They did a great job fitting me on a bicycle that exceeds my expectations. I highly recommend them.

Ive bought two bikes from here in the past. Nothing but positive experiences. I recently stopped in and had a wheel trued from a bike that I did NOT buy from them. The work was done on time, and done well. The mechanic was really friendly and enthusiastically helped me with advice on setting up tubeless tires. I didnt drop a bunch of dough this time in, but the service was affable just the same. Ive been in and out of bike shops on the east coast for more than twenty years, and grew tired of the holier-than-thou attitude found in a lot of shops. Ive found the Durham Bicycle Chain to be friendly and professional, everytime in. No pressure sales, and friendly mechanics. Ride on, and support your local shop.

I have bought 2 Cannondale bikes from this location and I wont be buying any more. The staff at this shop doesnt know the first thing about good customer service.I had a problem with one of the bikes which required a lot of force to shift gears and as a result the front derailleur actually moved on the frame causing the chain to rub.I brought it in multiple times and every time I was told it was my fault for riding it too hard as I was told. One time they wanted to charge me $50 for a tune-up even though the bike was only 2 months old and they advertise lifetime free gear adjustments. That was all I was asking for. Finally I insisted they do something about it and they found that it was because the bike was assembled wrong and the gear wires inside the frame were twisted causing the difficult shifting. Ive had no problems with the bike since.A more service minded shop would have taken the customer seriously the first time and investigated the problem instead of acting like they cant be bothered by those annoying customers or trying to get money out of you the second you walk in the door.I had a problem with the other bike too. I took it in for a free lifetime service visit like they advertise when you buy the bike. Again, they hate it when you bring you bike in for these free visits and immediately try to find things they can charge you for, like a new chain or new tires. At one of these service visits one of the mechanics snipped the ends of the brake wires without asking and made them so short it was almost impossible to adjust the brakes after that. He put on a cap which later fell off. Another mechanic actually told me there is no such thing when I asked for the free service they are advertising.Time and time again it have been confirmed that they dont care about their customers in this shop, cant be bothered to help them unless you are buying a new bike, act like problems are the customers fault, look for ways for squeeze money out of you. There are many better options in Chapel Hill and Durham. I will never set foot in this store again.
