Lets be honest if you ever had the opportunity to go to the Tattered Cover Book Store back in the day this doesnt compare at all. That place, all 4 stories of it was magical and amazing!!! This to me is much different. Kinda of the same vibe as the last one but not as many nooks and corners you can hide in to get lost in a book. Still has a coffee shop in it and the kids level is at the bottom. My kids loved it and so that made me happy. Staff was very friendly too:)

I have always loved tattered cover, been recommending and going there for years. Call me old fashioned, but I am uncomfortable with the bathroom stall situation. Several stalls for everyone down in the basement in one bathroom area for all. I dont mind men and women having to use the same bathroom, but at the same time next door to each other? No thank you.The book selection was great, as always. Though, with covid, they have removed most of the seating. I still browsed, still bought the books I wanted, but the charm and hospitality were not there.

We love bookstores and visit them all over the country. This one is special! A true gem in Denver that is housed inside an old theater. Be sure to grab a drink from the cafe before browsing employee recommended books, get a used book, or spend an hour in the basement full of childrens books with your little people. Parking is free in back and there are handicapped spots that will fit a van. Dont miss this bookstore! Awesome vibe.

One of the best book shops Ive ever been to, and my husband and I go to every one we can. I only wish I could have spent more time there. Fair prices, amazing selection, and organized in a really intuitive way. Theyve even got a coffee shop we cant wait to try next time. Staff was friendly and very helpful and knowledgeable. I cant wait to go back! The only problem is parking can be tough but hey, thats the whole area. They do have dedicated parking, it just fills up fast. P.s. They also do delivery or curnside pickup though I havent tried that yet.

This is seriously the best book store Ive ever been to. The way they have everything laid out was eye-catching, and they had so many good deals or special finds that I left with $100 worth of books. Definitely worth stopping there for any book lover. They also have really cool author events almost every day each month. Ill be sad when I have to leave Denver because I wont get to come to this bookstore anymore.

Tattered Cover is a great place to buy books both used and new. It’s also a nice place to grab a snack and a drink from the cafe and hang out at one of the many tables and random nooks they have throughout the old theater, which makes it an interesting layout even to just browse through. There’s a cool spot downstairs where they have readings and author talks, a great children’s area as well. A nice place to be!

As this was a bucket list visit (one of my most anticipated bookstore visits), I was predisposed to enjoy my first experience here. However, I would have been impressed even if I hadn’t been hoping to come for years. Unbelievably deep selection in most areas (the periodical section alone blew my mind), multiple seating options, and room to wander for days combine for a great time for the bookstore lover. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful and the floorplan of the place is endlessly fascinating. You’ll probably leave with far too many purchases than is reasonable.

I love the space and the atmosphere. Easily on of the most pleasant places to spend an hour browsing in Denver. However, I was surprised on my last visit to find exactly ZERO of the books I was looking for. Yes, I could order them, but then I have many options, which kind of defeats the purpose of a nice place like Tattered Cover.

In July, I had to head to Colorado for a work event. As this was our first time out of state since COVID began, two of my friends and coworkers stayed a few extra days in Denver afterward to explore the area. One of my must visits was Tattered Cover Book Store on Colfax Avenue. What a wonderful location! The front of the store itself is just beautiful! When walking in, you can immediately see the old theater aspects. There were so many smaller touches that I absolutely loved! One example was the table for books that you decided not to take home. I hadn’t seen a little sign like this before in a bookshop. What a great idea! There was a blind date with a book table, and above the registers was signage that I thought was absolutely wonderful! More stores need signage like this to share why buying local is so important.I found books from some of my favorite people on the Horror shelves! If you haven’t read anything by V. Castro, Catherine Cavendish, or Sara Tantlinger, you gotta check those out!My goal while stopping in was to find something local from the horror genre. I was so pumped to find exactly what I was looking for! I wish I could have met this staff member, Josh, that recommended it. But shout-out to Josh for making it VERY easy to find what I wanted!

This is a great place to get lost in and find a new book. However, if you are going there to find a specific book, I’d recommend ordering from them online or trying somewhere else. I have found the staff to be pretty hit or miss on helping to find a book I’m looking for and the shelves can be messy and disorganized. Today a worker told me to just look harder for the book I wanted instead of trying to help me. I desperately want to support a local bookseller but they don’t make it easy.

Honestly, we used to love this place but Im pretty disappointed they no longer let patrons use their restrooms. I get it, COVID is a major concern and we mask up everywhere but I have three small kids and not having a bathroom rules out a store entirely. Beyond that, they dont tell you when you walk in so you only find out when it actually matters. That might be a small deal normally but there are few stores on this stretch of downtown and frankly, closing bathrooms isnt a city requirement. In other words, theyve just decided to remove the option for patrons. Unfortunately, we cant go back now until this pandemic is over and frankly, it makes me not really want to.

Tattered Cover on Colfax is a book nerds dream incarnate. The selection is amazing, the shelf tags of staff recommendations and best-selling notations is delightful in a nostalgic-for-the-90s way, while also being useful, just like they used to be. The place looks like it grew from some hippy book lovers stoner dreams: the layout doesnt make much sense, it looks like you should be able to get to the second story, but you cant; at least I didnt see how to. The shelf heights vary like they were purchased as they went on sale, and the carpet has to be vintage mid-70s. Its bloody perfect.

It is immediately obvious why Tattered Cover is Denvers most beloved bookstore. The physical layout of the store is incredibly unique- the stairways and multiple levels make shopping feel like an adventure. What truly struck me was the table of childrens books that were centered around LGBT/Pride Month education. Seeing this brought tears to my eyes. This is the inclusion and representation that the community has been longing for. I so greatly wish I had these as a child, but Im thankful that children now do. This warmed my heart in a way I cant explain. The smallest gestures save lives. Thank you.

Review №67

This store has always been the best new bookstore ever, from the old days in Cherry Creek to the new days here on Colfax (and now at other locations, too). The TC maintains a degree of excellence that is downright astonishing after decades in the turbulent business of bookselling.Heres an example. I recently found a Jungian psychology book on the shelf immediately after its publication on the East Coast - a small-run, obscure book that I wouldnt have expected to find there, or in any store anywhere, really. Thats a vital clue about how this store works. Somebody is paying very close attention to the world of publishing and to the reading public, and to Denver customers, as well. The selection is just as strong in all the other areas with which Im familiar. The store constantly presents the best, newest, and most interesting books in every field or genre. Not all the books you might name, of course - even the best store must have some limits - but the turnover on the shelves is quick, too, so that entire groups of books seem to change from one week to another. I am glad that the store is now expanding to include used books. There, again, their choices are impeccable. The staff members are well-read, articulate, and considerate. The atmosphere is comfortable and interesting. I especially like the Colfax store, but all the stores are rather quirky and fun, in the best Hogwarts-ish way. The events are worthwhile, too - whether visits from nationally-known authors or activities generated locally (such as their Rocky Mountain Land Series). These experiences and promotions are important and worthwhile. They enrich the culture of our city in the best ways.In many ways, the dedication of the Tattered Cover to the general reading public is unmatched. This Denver institution deserves your business.

I really want to love this bookstore. They have a great location and tons of books, but the customer service was so abysmal that I dont think I want to shop there again.I went to buy books with a gift card I received. When I got to the checkout the computer wouldnt take my card. The cashier couldnt figure out what the problem was but he didnt ask for help or anything he just stood there, at one point he started sorting through mail. I waited for over ten minutes for him to check me out. I watched five other people proceed through the other line! I finally asked if there was a problem with my card and he said, No, the system just doesnt recognize it, and I dont know how to fix it. The other cashier finally came over and pulled him off the station then put someone else on who was finally able to check me out.Well, I still had money on my card so I decided to just buy online to avoid the in store experience. I ordered five books on September 6 shipping was supposed to take 10 days, and as of this review, I still havent received them. I havent gotten any communication regarding my order and the customer service email says it will take up to 5-6 days for me to hear back about my books.Like I said, I really want to like this bookstore, but if I cant actually buy books from them, whats the point?
