This is my absolute favorite type of bookstore! I was very impressed with their selection of used and new books. The staff was also very kind and helpful. I only wish I lived closer so I could stop in and browse more often!

I was having a really rough day and went to West Side to brighten my mood. Sometimes I just crave the smell of books (if you know, you know). An extremely kind woman—the intriguing one with the long, white braid—suggested I read “the boy the fox the mole and the horse”. She even pulled out her special purple chair, making a joke that she rarely shares it, and encouraged me to take my time to enjoy the children’s book. I read it and bawled.This is both a review and a thank you. That little bit of kindness was exactly what I needed, and this little bookstore feels full of moments like that. Their employees are helpful, their selection is vast, and it feels like it’s full of magic.

This book store is awesome. I took my daughters there today and the staff was incredibly friendly and so helpful. We got a mix of used and new books. The selection was great. The prices were great. I left feeling so happy to find another great store to support in our neighborhood.

This is a fantastic local bookstore that carries both new and used books as well as a few rarer collector type books. They also have a whole shelf of signed copies. The new book section at the front is smaller and focuses mainly on current popular books and maybe a few classics which I dont mind. The used books are separated and further into the store and include several sections. The organization could maybe be a bit better, but it wasnt hard to navigate at all.They also have updated their website to include the ability to search and buy books. I also contacted in the past via email and they are quick to respond to email questions and request too which I really appreciated.

West side books is a Denver staple and a true treasure. I thoroughly enjoy meandering through this shop (Its impossible to leave with just one book!). The staff is friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Theyve done a great job with their Covid safety protocol which allows for comfortable browsing.

Great place for books! I’ve lived in the area for 20 years and just started shopping here because there is such an amazing collection of used and new books. I actually prefer used books but I found a Frida Kahlo limited edition Moleskin that I really wanted so I bought that too.

Was there to look at the childrens books. Great selection of diverse and unique books that you might miss in other book stores. You could spend hours looking through the shelves. Its a little cluttered, which can be over whelming but a large selection. Only thing I noticed was the books were mostly labeled new and the price was the same as a new book. When I came to a used book store I guess I expected more used books. The prices were much higher than I would expect, but again I was looking in the childrens section mostly. Staff was helpful. They had some unique selections on Colorado history, Native Americans, etc. Although the price was higher than I expected will definitely be back to support local business.

Unable to review because even after checking the web and calling the number (and listening to the voice mail) I was unaware that they are not open to walk ons, you have to book an appt. So I could not go in and purchase anything. It looks nice from the outside tho!

Good books out there and a very great place

I could not be happier with this bookstore. I went in to get a couple books from a book club that I had just joined, as I was feeling uninspired with my reading. The woman working (I wish I got her name!) was soooo incredible to chat with. She recommended a couple books and I haven’t been able to put them down. My inspiration is back! She helped me find joy in reading again. I went back a few days later and she remembered exactly who I was.The selection of books is expansive and incredible! And the customer service is even better. I highly recommend! I’m now a customer for life 😃

Great used book store, its a bit cluttered and I like that, lots of tall shelves, organized pretty good by genre. My favorite part is they have a lot of old books, also a large kids and young adult section. They do buy books but I saw a sign saying they have restricted that quite a bit, makes sense because the place is full. Another thing that is great, very few multiple same titles, looking through the shelves you dont see 10 copies of the same book.

This is a really fun bookstore! The rear section has a big arched ceiling and stacks and stacks of books. There are some wonderful local history type books and plenty of everything else. Its a great place to browse for a while as you explore this row of boutique shops and restaurants. I love these little shopping areas that are scattered around the Denver area!

Classic bookseller. Not pretentious, yet know their books. Inventory serves all groups -- collectors, readers, gift buyers. Best one-size-fits-all. Denverites are fortunate a gem like this is still open. I will always patronize to keep it going!

What a weird, creepy, old school style book store. No big displays of Stephen King end caps or cut outside of Patricia cornwell detailing her rise on the New York best sellers... this place is great. If you love books its worth a stop.i even found a crypt keeper 5 volume release!!

Absolutely amazing bookstore! So glad to see small independent shops continue to thrive in this quickly changing neighborhood. Their selection is absolutely immense and the staff is always friendly and seems to know where absolutely everything is hiding. Ive easily lost hours in the shelves looking at everything from new fiction to first editions to the very obscure (Paperweights of the World!). I always walk away with something wonderful.

This is a valuable resource for any teacher. It has taching materials for any topics at great prices. Anyone who wants to stimulate their kids should visits here. It is such a great contrast to chain bookstores. I found the staff very helpful and knowledgeable.

My favorite bookstore! I have been coming here for years. They have quite a big selection, piles of books stacked and shelved throughout the whole shop. I love it, you get engulfed in the book smell as soon as you step in. If they dont have something you want they will order it for you as well.

Great place to browse! This shop has a little of everything from vintage colector editions to new looking books that make that never opened cracking sound when you turn the cover. When you go in look up and marvel at the barrel volted roof, you dont see that often.

This bookstore is a gem. Its very well kept and organized, especially considering the number of books.. Plenty of delightful and uncommon in-store finds (I couldnt help but gawk at the Murikami rarities). The staff is super cool - incredibly nice and helpful!

My favorite bookstore in Denver!! The prices are sensible and they have sooooooo many rare finds its like Christmas every time I go in there. Theyve got the biggest and more rare religious section Ive come across in this city. Im also impressed by special section for African literature, and African American literature.bi appreciate they didnt just lump it altogether in black ppl stuff category like most bookstores do. I try to visit weekly!

Absolutely my favoefav bookstore in Denver so far! Easy to get to, the nicest staff, and an amazing selection of rare or harder to find books .one of the few bookstores here that actually has a solid religion section, African literure, African American literature, AND more language books than your standard European languages. You must visit this place!!!

Voted both the best and oldest book store in Denver by the Westword. Its also one of the best if youre looking for a place to take a date. Cute and has awesome charm. The name West Side Books actually shows its age as it was named back when this part of town was called West Side Denver before it was renamed Highlands.

A load of bull, me and my sister went in and decided to trade or sell 10 books, 4 were not used, yet we got 12 dollars in store credit for used books, what a rip off, so I decided to buy a new book with half of the in store credit so my sister can use it, but after we find a book, they say that I used all of my credit on a new book, of which they didnt mention that. As I can see, they are bad with dealing, the staff is rude and have used books for outrageous prices.

I happened upon this independent bookstore while visiting my nephew, who lives nearby. Great selection, lots of new nonfiction, scores of shelves to browse, nice service. Wish it were it my neighborhood.

This book store has a lot of character and really good selection. I like my used book places to be a bit cluttered, making finds all the more rewarding. The selection here stretches from floor to ceiling, and I walked away with a couple of gems. The organization was not as good as it could have been, but I have seen much worse layouts and sorting. They even added flair to the sections, with a typewriter in their books for writers section and gardening tools in landscaping and home repair sections. Glad I found West Side Books, and I hope you do too!

I am sure the people who have bought books from West Side Books had a positive experience, however my personal experience selling to this establishment was horrendous. Today at 11:30 A.M I dropped off a box full of books with the owner (elderly woman), who said she would call me in about 20-30 minutes on my cell when she was done evaluating them. I returned about 45 minutes later to find her making a long, dramatic personal call at the front desk. I later called to find out what her evaluation was; she offered me $5 of store credit for all the non text book (approximately 7 books). I told her I was not going to pursue the sale and to please return my books. When I returned to the store, she had lazily thrown my box of books by the front door- and the 7 she wanted to buy were missing. I asked her what had happened to them, and she pretended not to know anything about them. This woman is unfortunately either a liar, thief, or ill equipped to perform her duties. For your own sake, I would suggest selling else ware.

Because of the digital tide, places like this are an endangered species so if you value 2nd hand book outlets, go here and buy something before it succumbs to another Starbucks or Chipolte.
