I come here a few times a year and always enjoy what I order. My most recent beverage was a hot mocha with soy milk. It was smooth and not too sweet, with a delicious chocolate flavor. It was the right temp to drink almost immediately, which is not usually true for me. The caffeine kick gave me a little bit of jitters, but I dont drink much caffeine compared to most folks, so if you are a regular coffee drinker, its probably fine. Four stars is because of the price. Not that the price is unreasonable for the ingredients they use - I think its fair. Its just to note that its more expensive than a large chain place. The 12 oz was 5.75. Having said that, I definitely recommend this as an occasional treat if you like chocolate in your coffee.
Service was friendly and quick. Tried the Cardamom and Rose latte with almond milk, it was delicious. Didnt care for the dried rose petals on top but the presentation was nice.
This is a decent coffee place. I went on a Sunday morning and there was a small line. There wasnt really many seating options, so its probably best to plan to take your coffee to go.The coffee here is good, but on the pricey side. Its expected for a place like this though. Any latte will typically run around $5. I got the vanilla latte which was pretty tasty and my fiancé got the cappuccino. Its a good place to grab a coffee if youre shopping in that area, but I wouldnt go out of your way for it.
Simply the best coffee Ive ever had and I have sampled a lot of places. Certainly though there is a lot of variability, its also thw weirdest coffee Ive ever had. Weird not being good in this instance.
So Huntington closed and I have beef w/costa Mesa. Their drinks never taste as good as the one in pacific city. They over syrup and my shot always comes out disappointing like, are these espresso machines different from la mazaroccos in pacific city?! Idk but I really like the male barista here but this needs to be addressed. The HB vanilla lattes taste different and now that they’re closed I expect this to b on par
This place is the best for coffee lovers! The place has a vibe that you don’t want to leave immediately. Their price fits within your budget, too. They offer a wide range varieties of coffee and they serve also desserts, muffins, and pasta. I love their Mocacchino, by the way! Visit their shop now, and you will definitely love them as I do!
Great location since it is easily accessible from the Santa Ana River Trail, there’s two ways there, from McArthur or from the entrance/exit right next to the 405 on the river trail that leads to the Soco are. I wanted a single origin espresso unfortunately they didn’t have any so I got a regular espresso which was tasty. Definitely worth the visit if you are enjoying a nice ride to the beach or returning from it.
I’m in so much gratitude to a leading and amazing coffee shop that I went to yesterday evening. The crews were greeting me so nicely. I was flattered that they don’t take their customers for granted. I ordered a coffee and a piece of cake for my cravings. Perhaps, I haven’t regretted the fact that I bought some because it was all good in taste. I’ll never hinder myself from craving for more. Also, their shop was perfect for dates and social media photographs.
Extremely rude staff. I ordered a dirty matcha latte and the cashier looked at me with disgust and said “really? Have you ever even had that before???” Surprised by his answer I said yes, that’s what I want. sounds like maybe this establishment didn’t understand what “dirty” meant when ordering drinks. My order got called out and they gave me a regular matcha with no espresso inside it. Instead, I got a separate cup with an espresso shot on the side and a stir stick. I looked at it genuinely confused and the barista nodded and confidently said that it was my drink. It was clear that I was expected to do it myself. At this point they might as well give me an apron, have me clock in, and pay me to do the job they were supposed to do in the first place. Crazy when you go to a place that holds themselves to a “high standard” and these pretentious employees can’t even deliver respect and good service to their paying customers. Sure, it’s a $5 coffee but it’s the principle of it all.
We are from out of town— tried to stop in for a quick coffee. I walked in, the door was open but no one was there. An employee walks in behind me a few minutes later and says they are closed. It’s 4:29pm. Maybe they can just update their hours posted online?
It was the first café I visited, and Im extremely happy with my choices. The barista was both kind and seductive. The room is both comfy and adorable. The personnel is kind, and the décor is both cozy and inviting. You may sleep, relax, utilize your smartphone or laptop, or communicate with pals. And it is a great and inviting place. Strongly suggested!
I don’t kno if there machine needs to b uptd but the girl baristas keep making my drinks gross…all of the other portolas r fine
I loved Portola so much I came everyday for the past 4 years. However, their quality slowly started to decrease. After the pandemic hit, I’m so sad that I can’t longer say its ok. Their coffee got so bad. Their mocha latte, americano, drips were all great back then. Now, after giving it a few more tries, I sadly have to say it will most likely be my last visit. Their roasted beans are not so great any more. Their americano is very bitter and their lattes do not longer contain organic Straus milk as they advertise.
The coffee was great, it made me to be productive!! Customer service is great too : ))
This is one of the best coffee roaster places in Orange County. They also offer a lot of cookies & brownies for a quick breakfast grab. The cold brew is simple and on point, and if you want to go for tea, they also have a lot of options, especially the Oolong Choicest from ChinaAs you can see, my hippo thoroughly enjoys this Filtron cold brew
The characters serving are only exceeded by the coffee itself. Its my favorite treat. I love to introduce coffee lovers to Portola Coffee Lab. This has also become what my department at work brews. Every cup is rich with a variety of flavors. Usually the coffee I purchase for home and work brewing has been roasted the day before. Now thats fresh!
I would give this place 10 stars if I could....Best. Mocha. Ever. And Ive had tons of mochas in my time. So smooth, no acidy after taste. This is the standard by which I judge all other mochas. Desserts looked amazing tho we didnt get any. Wouldnt want anything to distort the yummy goodness of my coffee. Roast: Terra Incognita
I mean its Portola, so its pretty solid. This location is inside the LBX hanger and the selection for coffee is almost the same as their other OC locations. I went with an iced coffee and it was delicious. No almond milk, just black with minimal ice. Bold and flavorful with just a touch of bitterness at the end. Just how I like it.The pastry and dessert options here are minimal, but youre in a food court so theres plenty of bites just a few feet away. Its pricey, but its also very good coffee. I saw a few reviews here that mentioned a lack of seating, which is crazy. Theres literally seats and tables lining both the inside and the outside of the venue along with a decent seating area in the middle of the hangar.Parking is plentiful and its a good weekend hang after a morning of shopping at the nearby stores.
Great coffee! Painfully slow service with the coffee drinks.
This place was so relaxing. I am so picky when it comes to place. When I tasted their coffee here, I was so amazed for it has a good mix of flavors. I loved it so much. If you enjoy reading books while having a cup of coffee, they have more interesting books here. Just come!
Every after work, I always drop by at this coffee shop to drink iced latte and chill out. What I like about this coffee shop is that their ambiance is so relaxing! It always takes my stress away!
Great coffee and quick service.
Even better was the cappuccino, the citys finest coffee. The barista is really good at producing various toppings. The workers are really nice.
Great coffee. They have lots of flavor options to choose from for their pour over coffees. Service is fast and friendly. Came here for a couple of coffees during our visit. Coffee came out fast and tasted great. This is the Best coffee house in LA.
I will certainly come back, and I recommend it to everyone. The breakfast here was amazing and the staff were so nice, the cakes and coffee yummy in the mid morning, the staff worked very well and could do more for customers there.
Great coffee. Very nice staff. Would recommend.
They dont serve organic Straus milk like it is posted on their sign. Not happy!
I have been in this coffee shop a lot of times but there is not anymore the way to go and take a coffee over there the servers are very rude people even you tepid them And I will tell for sure they really don’t know what coffee mean I will wish you good luck
Fantastic coffee, nutritious lunches and delightful workers with fantastic veggie options. I would certainly recommend it!
The vendors were really nice and helpful. Also instagramable :) There are many places in the city where you can get amazing coffee, but this is the best of the best.
I used to love this place, but the quality has gone downhill. Customer service is ok, espresso is overextracted and has a bitter after taste beyond the norm. I went back and ordered another drink just to check and it was the same. Both peets and Starbucks pull better shots for way cheaper. Sorry portola.
My friend invited me to go for coffee. Weve been to this Coffee Shop and it was a great experience having their coffee while we are talking. A great place to stay with!
The freshness and flavor of their coffee is so authentic and smooth. Worth the price for beans. The artistice baristas make creative characters on your lattes:)
Best coffee place ever ! Nice taste, pretty coffee designs, nice and friendly staff. Sure we are coming back again.
Portola is my favorite coffee roaster their beans is the best I’ve tried so far in Southern California fresh every week you can tell they roast it perfectly and the beans grade is high so for anyone who loves to make their coffee using chemix aeropress French press and other coffee makers that gives u the real taste of coffee this is the place if you make your coffee right portola beans will make you know and realize what’s a good coffee taste like.
I have a particular taste and I look for it everywhere I go. I love supporting this shop and so I always stopped here and have a coffee. I also recommended this place to my friend. Many people use this shop as a meeting place or a work/study space because the place was convenient and the staff was so kind. Even myself, I always love to spend my free time here.
Service was a little slow but to be expected when there’s only one guy working! Once we were able to order he was super nice and worked with us to get our order perfect. Can’t wait to come back on my next trip!
Well, their drink and snacks not really matched my expectation. But I am still willing to give them a five star reviews, since all of my friends looks enjoyed their food a lot.
Great coffee and even a vegan donut option :)
A Coffee Shop where you can find a comfortable place to stay with your family and friends. They also have free Wi-Fi and you can stay there for a whole day.
David S and Collin were helping me out today with this COVID-19 virus its hard to find good or even decent customer service but David S surpasses my expectations and even took the care to ask me about my drink and how i specifics liked to have it made and that is how customer service is done ! While Collin was behind The expresó bar and I Edit get to interact much with him as his focus was on his job to make the best cup of a latter this side of OC
Lovely little coffee shop, serves good variety of food and ideal if visiting the store to stop for lunch or coffee.
Huge fan of Portola!!Also- love this location. The communal feel is really cool. My husband and I ALWAYS stop by for coffee when we are heading through town. Always excellent quality coffee as well as excellent service.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Good coffee, friendly staff.
While theres a bunch of great coffee shops in Orange County, I know that when I go to Portola, Ill get a consistently good cup of coffee. I dont have to wonder if this cup of going to be good or not, because it always is. Anyway, I highly recommend Portola if youre in the area and are looking for some great coffee.
Located in one of my favorite locations in Orange County, SoCo & the OC Mix. Typically I get my favorite mocha cafe and then will walk into several of local shops looking for inspiration: BoConcept, Design Within Reach, Room and Board and Roche Bobois.
Nothing impressive. For the suburbs, 1 up from Starbucks, 2 down for convenience.Fruit forward beans make the milk taste sour.prices are astronomical.I guess youre only catering to the type of clientele that base decisions on yelp and think everything is non-sense instagram-able photo OP[insert peace sign up against cheek here}.congrats.
Great vegan cafe!I love the way the food is approached - were doing this item today - come and get it.They got even better since they started roasting their own beans, too.Portola Coffee Roasters.
Solid specialty coffee; was in town from Ohio, staying in Huntington, and was recommended by a friend. So glad I checked it out. Bought some beans to take home too. Looks like a good amount of reviews on yelp and google have negative things to say but those people are probably touristy and don’t get it what shops like this are doing because they are used to Starbucks or some other fast serve turn and burn shops. Just my two cents. 😑
A friend from college, whose son goes to school in the area, recommended this coffee shop. We are so glad that she did. Each of us enjoyed a specialty coffee and either biscotti or a cookie. We are amazed by how their order pickup process and not much waiting room work well, but the crowdedness is a sign of their thriving business. We will certainly return here!
Coffee was really good; the only disappointment was that they didn’t have many macaroons left by the end of the day, but I can’t really fault them for that. The decaf machine also broke. Location is cute and there’s plenty of seats around. Lots of people were hanging out working or studying. I like the open bar style of coffee place. Wife is big on coffee and said it was amazing.
I cant judge the shop fully because I only visited the place one time, seeing how I live in San Diego, but that one time I was recommended to get the Flat Brown coffee and the Pretzel Croissant. The coffee was the perfect combination of milk and sugar, and the Croissant has that salty taste at the end that made wanna go back and buy another one. Overall, I need to go back again to try what other choices they offer.
Great coffee but if you’re in a hurry do not go here. Very slow service. And the staff are somewhat friendly.
Good, friendly service and great coffee and espresso drinks along with some tasty baked treats. Im not an aficionado but the drinks are never bitter or overly sweet. Get the mocha for a rich coffee drink that isnt overly sweet (think dark chocolate type sweetness) and a sausage roll for a snack.
Really enjoy coming here, not just for the coffee, but also the community seating area. Usually come with a group of friends to do some reading/work and play a board game or two
Excellent coffee. Growing up with Vietnamese drip coffee, I dont usually drink american coffee as they usually brew it too slight, it just tastes like flavored water, but this place is different. Flat brown is the way to go, still not very strong, but very intense smell and a bit of cocoa makes for a very enjoyable drink.
Really good coffee, all the cool new toys. Some of the best beans, roasting and brewing around. Laid back atmosphere, knowledgeable staff doesnt mind answering all my questions!
Iced Americano is on point
Not quite my cup of tea.. .hm coffee. Although it was really nice to have coffee in a real cup I did miss my spoon and real sugar to sweeten and stir the coffee to my liking. Super nice n cozy place though and staff very friendly! But go all the way for a sophisticated coffee experience youre reaching for.
The ladies that were working Friday, 9/13/19 evening. Thank you for being so helpful and gracious! You’re truly a breath of fresh air when it comes to being in the customer service industry.
My friend swears this place has the best coffee so I decided to give it a try. He recommended the mocha since I have a bit of a sweet tooth. I arrived early one Saturday morning and was surprised to see that there was a line already forming. However, it moved pretty fast. I ordered a mocha to drink at the coffee shop. They have wooden tables setup or you can sit at the bar. I also ordered a breakfast sandwich. It was about $12 total, which is kind of pricey for a coffee and sandwich but since my friend promised me it was worth it, I gave it a go. The coffee comes with a cool foamy design made from the froth, which I was impressed with. The mocha was delicious, rich and creamy. As for the sandwich, it was a bit too bland for me so I asked for some of their salsa, which added just the kick it needed. Overall, I wouldnt make this place my go-to coffee place because its out of the way for me but if I am in the area, I wouldnt mind stopping for a bite and drink.
Friendly and helpful staffs, prompt service, open kitchen with pretty good selection of tasty pastries. Coffee is definitely well above average, and beans are fresh, so most of the time you can get beans roasted within 10 days or so. I cant think of anything to complaint.
Amazing experience in Portola Coffee Roasters. Affordable delicious coffee Love the service in this place staff is very friendly. Affordable delicious coffee
Portal is coffee is pretty great. The atmosphere is also great. Be prepared to spend a decent amount of cash on any coffee and or pastries you were wanting to enjoy. The nice thing about Portola is the coffee is good and it’s consistent.
They really know their coffee, both roasting and brewing. Unfortunately If youre trying to sit in its a hard place to get comfortable due to the layout and how busy they are. Beautiful, cool looking space though. Overly trendy but well executed and I want to reiterate just how good the product is- they invest the time, effort, and knowledge to make great coffee and it shows. Look presentable or be prepared for looks from the OC bourgeois
Very good coffee. Ordered multiple items like the campfire coffee, iced coffee, kids hot chocolate and a very good drip from Panama. The order took a while but the baristas were extremely nice and good-natured about everything. Really nice location.
One of my favorite coffee spots in the area. I went to school in Oregon and what I love about this place is that they have a love for coffee and finding new flavors that reminds me so much of the culture in the Pacific North West. I highly recommend the Flat Brown. Its a flat white w/ chocolate ganache and its my favorite thing on the always-changing menu.
Great little traditional café. Good options and prices, GREAT location. I recommend sitting outside if the day is sunny and nice out.
Great baristas and just exceptional coffee. The prices are decent and the overall atmosphere is so nice!
Excellent place, clean. Coffee is excellent I was able to taste the notes as described. Two complains, 1) I ordered for her but was served in to go cups, 2) Milk steaming was excellent and the art was perfect but was too hot to drink
Excellent place. Best coffee in Orange County. Still not sure the $7 cup is worth it but everything else is. Also the croissant selection is wild.. Incredible pastries, wild flavors. The problem with this place is once you have high end coffee like this you cant go back to big chain coffee houses.
I love Portola coffee. I love the fact that they roast their own beans. Also, the people who work there are really nice. They take time to explain how they make coffee from the various machines and how to order it.
Excellent coffee and atmosphere. If you can mind the Hipsters talking about esoteric minutia you will be fine here. The cappuccinos are undeniably authentic. A+
