I enjoy working with wood, and if one has a question, this is the place for answers. The staff is friendly, HELPFUL and knowledgeable. Shopping there is a joy because there is such a wide variety of product.
Finally got a chance to stop in and out didnt disappoint. Great place to visit if youre in to wood working and an awesome staff that are a ton of help!
Rick In the Painting Department offered exceptional customer service. He was able to match the color in my home and gave me a few tips :). Very grateful for his help.
I have purchased several woodworking machines here as well as a number of other products for my shop. The staff are knowledgeable and helpful. If you want professional advice and guidance, this is the place to shop! Check out the bench I finished in October, 2017. I bought the Zebrawood at Woodsmith and with the advice of Woodsmith staff, I think it turned out pretty nice.
Cool place for woodworkers. Looks like they have just about everything youd want for your workshop. The person who waited on us was very knowledgeable about various wood species and which woods are best suited to specific applications.
Great staff...very knowledgeable and helpful
This place has a very down home kinda feeling to it. I love that they support small businesses.
Jermaine’s did a great job and the crew kept me informed about any updates. Would definitely use this company again!
The customer service here is top notch. They were super helpful in matching the wood type, stain, and finish of a project that I needed to match woods. Will certainly be coming back
What a delightful store !! My first trip - but will not be my last. Ladies, if wood, hammers, and drills are not your thing, look at the other half of the store. Kitchen goods, gardening items, and miscellaneous fun stuff. Lots of Iowa goods. My anticipated 10 minute trip lasted over an hour. Try it. You WILL like it !
I spend far too much time and money here on woodworking materials. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The only complaint is the reduced COVID hours means I can only shop on the weekends since I get off work when they close.
Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. Lots of great tools. Nice store.
I bought A Laguna lathe from them today and I am very happy with the shopping experience. Great customer service and very knowledgeable about their products. Price was the same as every where else. I want to thank the employee who helped me I cant remember his name. He was very helpful.
Great garden center and pricing on trees.
Great store and great customer service, glad to have them close. Matched the paint shade I needed much better then a big box store did!
Best customer service there is. I live 120 miles away and make the trip often. I am a woodturner and they have a lot of supplies there that I can only get on line. (I hate shopping on line). The staff is more then eager to help. But the feather in their cap is the customer service. I purchased a $2500. lathe form them. The lathe was a lemon and the manufacturer was even worse. Woodsmith and Dave went to bat for me. I returned the lemon to them and they sold me a Cadillac. As a business owner, I like to think that this is the type of service my staff and store provides. I hope the owners of Woodsmith Store know how great Dave is. He needs a raise!!Well done Woodsmith Store. Im a customer for life!
The staff were very knowledgeable and helped a lot. They have great options on material and hardware.
Very helpful employees, a large selection of Kreg tools to look at. They all so have a lot of the other products that you see advertised in your email inbox. So go look and buy local. I know, it is easy to sit in your living room and buy stuff, but, put your mask on, go out, and talk to the nice people at the Woodsmith Store.
Great products, great prices, and helpful employees!
Love shopping there. Have an excellant inventory of woods and tools, etc. Great staff.
Just what I was looking for. Great as always.
Always great to go to
All of the staff here are incredible. There is a wealth of knowledge behind the doors. If you need a speciality product chances are its in stock at woodsmith
Everyone asked and make sure i got help if needed
I get there about once a year while traveling through the area. Like being a kid in a candy store. Very helpful and a good selection, with decent prices.
This is a great store. Staff is always helpful.
The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable about the products. Ill definitely go back.
Waste of Time - Went there today and it took everyone in the store to wait on one customer. Must have been 10 people waiting in line, but no one competent enough to take one order. We will find another place for our needs. No time for incompetence.
I needed a very particular veneer to do a repair job on some antique furniture. Not only did they have exactly the type I needed, but when I returned for a stain (after failing to figure the color out myself) Kathleen was extremely helpful and able to find a near perfect stain, as well as application methods for the best match. These folks know their stuff and Im not sure how this credenza would have turned out if not for them.
Good old fashioned customer service still exists here. So refreshing to see.
This is a great wood working store. Good selection of of tools and great options for different types of wood.
Great selection of exotic wood
Great selection. Very helpful staff. I was impressed that they carry items in a variety of price ranges. Wood selection is excellent. They seem to carry everything for beginners to advanced woodworkers. As a wood to Ive never been to a store with such a broad selection of chucks and jaws. Neat selection of arts and crafts too. Prices are competitive on most things, although even for items that are a little higher priced than online stores, you couldnt beat the convenience of walking in and taking home your purchase. I hate that this store is a thousand miles from where I live.
Friendly and mostly helpful. Its not unusual that theres an apperent team meeting in the middle of the store that temporarily precludes them from assisting store patrons.
My favorite toy store. Very helpful and friendly staff.
Grown mans toy store. Actually a great place to shop for woodworking supplies. Prices are usually list so you pay but they have a good selection of things you normally would not find. Its a good place to actually see and compare tools instead of going online and not being certain of what you get. They have a nice selection of softwoods and hardwoods too.
Love this place, the people are friendly and they have a good selection
It was my first visit. Very nice store. Do you provide a discount to veterans? Also, I bought two pieces of scrap wood to practice router cuts on. I think it would be better to just write the price in pencil on the wood, the stickers are a pain to get off. I’ll be back
I wanted 4 things today. They didnt have one thing
I always enjoy shopping here. My dad is a woodworker, so its a great gift destination. I love their kitchen and grilling area. I never walk out without buying something. High quality items and very helpful should you seek assistance.
Excellent service on sales floor.
Wonderful need to win the lottery to buy everything I want
Went in to the store this afternoon (Thurs.) as I usually do when Im in town. Was ready and willing to buy some wood turning equipment. As I waited in that section for some help, I noticed an older heavy set gentleman walk by with his head down. He went behind the board rack apparently for a break. I noticed after while he went back up front again with his head down in the side isle as I waited in the main isle. After about 15 minutes with no help and no one in sight I decided to heck with it, Ill buy it on line and left. This was an unusual experience which is why I used to enjoy going there. Im in your data bank.... John Rich
I love this store. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff and always wiling to help. The lumber is way better than the box stores but a bit pricey. High end tools and you can always find items that you didnt know you needed. Benjamin Moore paint, general finishes and the staff in this area are excellent. Just a fun place to go.
Nice place. Large selection of quality tools and accessories. Prices are at a premium over online retailers, but you can walk out with your purchase now!
Always have what I need and more. Very helpful with any questions. I love this place. I have to stop every time Im in the area.
Dee was incredibly helpful in the Benjamin Moore paint department. She was extremely knowledgeable and went above my expectations. I will be back. Thank you for the great customer care.
Going here for the 1st time I was impressed. I was looking for some hand tools for my new hobby. The associates were super helpful. I will be back
The staff at the Woodsmiths Store are always incredibly friendly, and very knowledgeable. Their inventory is vast, and generally have the items I need in stock.Theyre not the cheapest game in town, but in my opinion, theyre worth the extra money in expertise along with the special workshops and other offerings.
Good range of products but very expensive. Nice selection of lumber but also way more expensive than most. I found myself ordering walnut slabs over the phone and having it shipped from North Carolina (was much cheaper even with shipping). The paint/stain department individuals have always been very helpful. Some employees have been very unhelpful in the lumber department. Often seen like they dont have the time to talk to you. Last time I bought some hardwood from their scrap pile (good deals in there) they were confused by their own price sticker and didnt know how much something was. The cashier ended up guessing and asked me does this price seem fair? Who knows if I overpaid for the board of not. Will return but mostly because it is the only place in town that has a good selection of lumber. You might want to check around on pricing. Kansas city is only a couple hours away and has cheaper hardwood lumber stores.
I was very impressed with their layout and selection. I was asked no fewer than 5 times if I needed help with anything. I had a conversation with one of the employees and he was not only friendly but very knowledgeable. I will definitely be stopping back again the next time I am in central Iowa.
Their prices are about 5-10% higher than at Rockler, Woodcraft, and Amazon. I am not a fan of being constantly bombarded with help and they always seem to be there hovering right over top of you. I was looking at Incra marking rules and I told the man/helicopter that I was fine and didnt need any help. He proceeded to tell me I actually have some information that youre helping going to find helpful. Then gave me his information and hovered right over me until I picked what I wanted. Plan ahead and buy online or make a day of it and drive to Rockler or Woodcraft.
Excellent choice of hardwoods, some quite rare. Typically cheaper than big box stores. Can find great sales. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Great selection of woodworking tools.
Good help friendly staff good material and tools
Very friendly and knowledgeable staff and always willing to help. The lumber is better quality than the box stores but is very pricey and does not come in standard board sizes. If you purchase wood from here be sure you have the tools to make it the dimensions you need.
I’ve shopped Woodsmith for years and find them very helpful. Great selection of lumber along with excellent advise. Recently I had a problem with a Woodsmith gift card that showed the wrong remaining balance. The store manager, Tony, spent extra time reviewing the problem and ultimately correcting it. Quite impressed he would take the time to sort out the problem and give quick response. From start to finish it was resolved in 24 hours. Highly recommend this store.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. They will cut pinewood dry cars for free every year. Have a great selection of special and exotic woods, but you also pay for their expertise.
What a great store! The staff is extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I stop regularly on the way home after work.
It is great when you can get help when ever you need and they know what they are talking about! It is even better when a fellow woodworker stops by and joins the conversation and gives you tips, tricks and recommendations on machines!
I found what I had come for. The service here is excellent. All the clerks are very knowledgeable and you can learn a lot just by talking to him. They showed me an easier way doing what I was planning on doing and one simple tool of $9 will save me half an hour to 45 minutes of Labor. They have a vast variety of woods that are not real common at any other Lumber store. If you have a project and you dont exactly know how to complete it and it involves woodworking this should be your first stop. Theyre priced very competitively with all the big box stores and they do have many tools that are higher quality theyre about the same price as the big box stores. All in all the deserves the five star rating I gave it.
Very unique place! Many interesting things! And great place to buy wood for a project!
I had just purchased a new fiberglass window, and needed a stain to match the fiberglass to the oak in the rest of the room/house. After bad experience at Sherman Williams, and another paint store telling me they did not carry the correct stains, I was referred to the Woodsmith Store. Inside at the paint counter 2 women helped me find the correct stain, show me the proper way to put it on, along with the proper poly to put on top of it to make it look right. I had never been in the store before, but will defiantly be back.
Excelllent people, helpful and knowledgeable! Best place to go for the best products. Well worth the prices!
Very nice store. Woodworkers love it and theres a great kitchen area for the cook of the family. Only reason I did not give it a 5 is price. Everything is expensive and overpriced. It is supply and demand of DesMoines. But a great store with lots of stuff you didnt even know you needed!
Guy had a lot patience with me
Friendly knowledgeable staff
This is a great store for wood and finishing products as well as a good selection of kitchen gadgets and other fun stuff. Good quality, reasonable prices and knowledgeable staff.
Excellent for wood workers
Amazing store with super friendly, knowledgeable staff and great coffee while you browse the impressive inventory.
So much more than just wood! Crew was very helpful.
Usually dont do this but was really disappointed. Nobody came to see if I needed anything till I was about ready to leave. Store was very nice in appearance but with the lack of interest in what I might need and the prices another store. I would suggest also some changes in customer appreciation.
Great store for woodworking equipment, wood, and supplies. A little pricey, but always fun to shop there.
Woodsmith has anything and everything you need for woodworking, turning and carving. There is a large selection of food, hand crafts and stains as well. You owe it to yourself to stop in and check it out.
Staff is always very helpful and knowledgeable! Best source of wood around here.
Staff very helpful and friendly!
Very helpful and knowledgeable.
Great products, great selection. Very helpful staff!
You can find top end woodworking tools, cool add-ons for your projects, and kitchen items.
One of, if not the finest, wood working stores in the entire midwest. They have friendly, knowledgeable staff capable of answering any questions & carry most of the best brands available.
OMG this store is awesome nothing like I expected a little something for everybody
Best place to get all of your woodworking projects from
I had never been in there before today. They have the cutest stuff and the staff is fantastic.
Always fun stuff to look at and lots of knowledgeable help for your wood working or painting project. Pretty pricey though.
Very helpful nice folks they know what they are talking about 👍👍
Found what I needed
You may shop other woodworking stores but you will never find a better equipped place than Woodsmith and you will never find betterworkers that know their stuff. Ive been shopping there since 1989 and I havent found anywhere else that I would care to go for my woodworking supplies
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.
Very helpful and knowledgeable. Also has a huge selection and cheaper than most places.
One of my favorite places to go when in Des Moines!
Always great help from the employees and great products. Cant get the same service buying online.
Came by at 2:20 sunday 2/24/19 to pick up some hand tools and the doors were closed. There were two people that got into their cars and left as i was reaching the door. the store was closed 2hours before its set hours. Very inconvenient and honestly really rubs me the wrong way, there are other places to spend my money i guess thats what they want.
Good selection of tools and knowledgable sales people.
Very pleasant staff, excellent selection of products and household goods.
You do woodworking? This is your store. Friendly knowledgeable staff.
Spendy but you go here for quality and they have great classes. Very knowledgeable staff.
First time visit to store. Loved it. My new go to place.
Excellent selection of tools and accessories. Knowledgeable staff.
Great Store for Woodworkers and plenty of help!
Good selection of wood and tools. Just a mite expensive, but theres no place else close that has this selection
